Katla, It's great that your husband is being discharged from the hospital. Is he going to the nursing home for rehab, and then coming back home? My heart goes out to you, too.

Yes, 4 years, 7 months, 5 days.
Cleaning out the office is giving me odd little "jolts" as I come across something from the "before time" ... before March 2018. Memories of the way things were. I had shoved a lot of that away into the back of my mind. I won't even look at most photos on my Flickr page from the "before time".

Terri - In the end I couldn't resist doing some 'admin' for my book. I finished exercising, sprucing, and hair washing early, so I had an hour to spare, before shopping. I typed out an old poem, and copied and pasted a previous couple, via email, into my MEMORY ROUGH Word file under 'The Camden Years'.
Those years were late 1971 to early 77.
For our USA friends, Camden Town was a newly fashionable part of North London, just being gentrified. Originally, it was a home for Irish immigrants, Greek Cypriots and working class Londoners. Our house was almost completely a ruin.
Now, Camden Market is world famous, and our old area is one of the most expensive parts of London. When we lived there, young creatives were moving in, including Nick Mason of Pink Floyd, and Dudley Moore. Some aspects of that time were wonderful, but I spent a lot of it in severe depression. My poems reflect that.
OK , off to shop, and then to make my brother's bed. Must remember to clear anything incriminating out of the bedside drawer!

Machka, I can really relate to the jolting discoveries as you go through your office. I am having a few of those jolts as well. I sometimes feel as if I have been unexpectedly rear ended by another vehicle.

Karen — I am looking forward to being closer to DH as he recovers from his heart attacks. The new place is much closer to me and our daughter. I hope he will gain improved health and I will be able to see him more frequently. He and I want to live together again. 🤞🏻 (for good luck)4

Ditto here.
Katla - So glad your husband will be reasonably close--and it sounds as if he's going to be well taken care of there, now that he's out of the hospital. I hope you get to see him more.
Second cup of tea brewing, time to get some writing done...
Love y'all,

Machka9: My thoughts go out to you. It is a different experience now. I know there are good days and not so good days. I love your pictures! I cleaned out the office when my DH moved downstairs. I love having a new place to sit and a place to pay bills and do zoom calls!

Katla, Glad your husband will get good care. I hope he'll be well enough soon so he can come home to you.
Allie, No one can take advantage of you without your permission. Your daughter is an adult and made a choice to have another child. You are not required to be a full time child minder for her. It's up to you if you want to be taken advantage of. Your health is important.
Jake goes for an appointment with the heart failure specialist today. I'll stay home with Bessie. He'll be gone for about four hours and we'll have some alone time.

(((Lisa))) I felt overwhelming sadness when I saw your family picture from all parties. It is interesting to see grandfather isolated from the rest of you. I am so proud of you for removing this cloak from your shoulders. Looking at it shows how far you have come. Keep hugging and loving that girl you see in that picture. She only thought she was fat as a way to protect herself. That is one of the jobs of fat. The toxins we are exposed to in our lives mental and physical needs a place to go in our bodies until we can get rid of it safely. That place is the unhealthy fat in our bodies. Our healthy fat is what keeps our brains working well and our bodies working in their prime. Healthy fat is created by eating healthy food and healthy relationships. The healthy fat in our life helps us weather the storms of life.
I am now replacing that picture with the picture of you in that beautiful dress and beautiful smile on your wedding day. What I see is the Lisa who was waiting to come out and greet the world.

The pictures all represent an aspect of my life that makes me feel good.
If the office room were a bit bigger, I'd be tempted to make it an exercise room. However, given that is the size it is, I'll likely keep it as an office/library. There are three bookcases in the room, filled with books. They are in reasonable order although I do need to fix them up a little bit and find room for more books.
There's a large desk which is all right. I was in university part time between 2015 and 2020 and spent quite a bit of time working at that desk. I don't have to do that now, but the surface could make a good puzzle or craft spot.
There's a 4-drawer filing cabinet ... I haven't opened the drawers yet although they are fully accessible now. I have made a few attempts through the years to file things and last time I looked in the filing cabinet what was in there was OK. I hope it still is. Then I need to put the stuff that's everywhere into the filing cabinet in order. I may also want to scan and shred a lot of stuff. That'll all take time.
There's a small closet filled with boxes from my past. I'd also like to scan and shred a lot of that. More time.
Once the room is cleared of everything I can shred and remove, I'd like to bring in a table with sides that fold down (I like old tables like that) which could also be used for puzzles or crafts. I envision it sitting in the closet with the closet doors open.
Also, if I can work from home (hopefully at some point in the next few months), I'd like to use that room for that.
I'm pleased with what I accomplished in there again today. It wasn't a lot, but every little bit helps and generally the room looks better.

Looks like many of us, me included, have stiffness and arthritis. Getting older is not for the weak.
I went to my ortho last week. Turns out my hips haven’t gotten worse, but they found arthritis in my back.☹️. That is why my pain changes sides and is radiating out to my hips and legs. Both my PCP and my ortho said to keep doing what I am doing and continue to lose weight.
I am also chronically dehydrated. I try to drink herbal tea in the winter. It would be easier if I could drink the water from the tap, but it is called liquid rocks for a reason.
Heading out for a cold weather camping trip and cast iron cookout for the weekend.
Take care,
Jean from New Mexico5 -
Margaret, my dear friend - thank you for that... I don't regret that pain. Mostly because there's no point, it's just wasted emotion. Even more important, it was the indirect steps to being this person, and I am so glad I'm here! I'm not sure I could have known how amazing life could be if I hadn't known how bad it could get. I'm glad you're here, too--your joy always warms me and your strength as you walked through your son's loss floored me. You're an amazing human being.
That goes for all who've lost someone they've loved so much--Beth, Rori, Allie, Lanette, Pip and anyone I may have missed. I know you have to get tired of hearing how strong you are... but you are.
So much love,

Barbie— Thank you for your kind and wise words. DH is being transferred to a facility that is approximately 14 miles from our apartment. It will be easier for visits from our apartment & our daughter’s home.
It looks as though my DH has heart health challenges that may be similar as your DH. I pray for good outcomes for both of them.
Allie — You are a wonderful grandmother. It is good that your grandchild’s care is part time. You need good rest and self-care for yourself. ❤️
Karen in VA—DH is being transferred from the hospital to a care facility with good references that is very close to our daughter’s home. I will be able to see him more often, and also to spend more time with our daughter and her family.
I’m hopeful for DH’s health improves, and more opportunities to spend time with him.

This is not uncommon. My mother was the caregiver for my niece's daughter for years without pay, and she was happy to do it. I didn't live near anyone who could do that for me, and paid tens of thousands of dollars over the years for child care. I don't think my mother had stopped to calculate how much she had helped my niece financially until I told her what I had paid.
