Very, very grateful to be feeling so much better. The good thing about feeling sick is that you really appreciate feeling well again!
We managed our normal exercise session this morning!
First we opened our presents for our 18th wedding anniversary. The laugh is, that we both had the same idea and bought each other watercolour equipment! I also bought him a book on technique and he bought me a biography of John Wesley. There is a family tradition that we are descended from the Wesleys on my mother's father's side. I suspect it is just a rumour, but the book looks fascinating.
I truly can't believe we have been married so long. To me, DH is my 'new man' and the relationship still feels fresh. In May we will have been together 20 yrs.
We often tell each other how lucky we are.
I had nothing planned for special food tonight, because we were going out with our visitors to the Persian restaurant, but I remembered I had some monkfish in the freezer and I'm going to make a fish curry, one of my favourite things. Gewürztraminer wine will go nicely.
Scotch eggs for lunch, with avocado salad.
I did suggest a painting session this afternoon as a celebration, but DH didn't jump at the idea. We have next Thursday scheduled for a session. Then I suggested we have a singing session, because we so enjoyed it on the ship. We have recordings on DH's computer, of our previous tutor singing some of our favourite musical songs. He jumped at the idea! So, that's what we will be doing after lunch. :-)
Much love to all. The grandchildren are missing us and we are madly missing them. We will see them on Tuesday, we hope.

Lanette— I love our Annas Hummingbirds. We are currently in Illinois and they don’t have them here. I miss them. I am confident that our neighbors in Oregon are feeding them.1

I am caught up with the post reading! lol
Machka- The glass hack for mangoes is brilliant! I don't buy them often; but I will have to try that next time I buy. I usually do the "cut and score" method shown in the video.
Beth- Oh my stars and monsters! That is a LOT of snow! West Michigan got a decent 1-2 feet in many areas. Because our house is on Lake Michigan, we were ready for it (lake effect weather), but we actually only got about 3-4 inches between Wednesday pm and this morning! I am pretty sure the strong winds just scoured it away. Needless to say, I am disappointed. I LOVE snow (and enjoy shoveling). I hear you on the end of the driveway snow. It is the WORST place to shovel. Usually packed down from the plows, heavy, wet and horrible. Metal edged shovels needed to break it all up. My favorite season is winter. I think the other three seasons tie for second place. I really enjoy them all and am always ready for the next one. They last the right amount of time, then it is time for a change. lol
Michele- I find that when we get a lot of snow; the snowblowers aren't much use. You have to dig yourself down to a depth that your snowblower can handle. When we have a lot of snow coming down, we tend to shovel multiple times during the day/night so that we don't have to "dig" out. Pretty sure, I will need to budget snow removal services into my finances as I get older. For my driveway it currently costs about $80 a pop.
Well, I better scoot. I have my grocery shopping and errands to run today. I didn't do it yesterday because the wind was whipping the snow around so much it made the visibility too poor to head out. Much better today.
Love and hugs to all! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)4 -
Catching up on my gratitudes:18. Piece of art - I stalled out on this one, because I marvel about so much that could be deemed "pieces of art." I'm so grateful for the look inside the artist's mind, whether that art is writing, painting, sculpting, music, etc.
19. Touch - A full-body hug from Corey.
20. Who in my life - I am ever grateful for Corey. I moved in with him in November 14 years ago now. I cannot imagine my life without him, and I hope I never have to.
Quiet Sunday in progress... I'm on my second cup of tea, messing around on the internet in what will forever be my office, because calling it my "craft room" just sounds weird. Corey's in his usual spot, in bed, sipping on his second cup of coffee and... messing around on the internet as well. Too bad it's not a team sport! We'd be champions if it was...
I am ambitionless this morning in any number of ways... Once I can't sit in this chair anymore, I'll probably get my book and read in the living room. Maybe I can convince Corey to get a fire going--it's still 24 degrees outside, and supposed to get up to mid-40s. Still--when I spoke to best friend in Montana yesterday, they were at 18 below zero, so there's that. If I can't get Cor to build a fire, I'll just have to get on the elliptical and get my inner fires burning. Actually, I could do both.
Hope it's a lovely Sunday for all...
Love,

Tracey ... I am sorry for your family's loss. Praying.
Katla ... I am impressed by your continued optimism and perseverance regarding your husband's health and your current living situation. You are a strong woman.
Mary ... those cookies are beautiful! My homemade never look that impressive.
Barbie ... I took note of the book recommendations as well. My mom at 91 is still a voracious reader and she is constantly asking me to find her new books to read. There's a little library in her new residence facility. I'm hoping there will be books she is interested in.
Kelly ... you are correct ... heavy, wet compacted snow by the plows! But we got it done. I'm not sure how many years my husband and I can keep at it though. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it I guess.
We only got about 8 new inches of snow last night. It should be easy to remove later today although now we have cold temps and wind to contend with. We're going to take it easy this morning. We still have a travel ban so our Church In-Person services were cancelled. Getting ready to watch a livestream. Then I hope to do a little baking today. Never got to it yesterday.

We had a great sing-song!
In the middle of it, the door bell rang. It was my son clutching a pizza box! They had gone to Fatto a Mano for lunch and he had forgotten to order gluten free! He had them box it up and brought it round to see if we could use it. I think he was a bit surprised to find us in fine fettle and singing at the top of our voices!
Here it is still very mild, and roses, dahlias and geraniums are blooming! I can't imagine dealing with all that snow. It does snow on the south coast, but it's been years since it was more than a couple of inches. Officially we are more like a Mediterranean climate, but there are cold spells.
I've prepared the curry sauce in the IP for the monkfish, which I will add at the last minute. Just have to make a raita. Can't find the Gewürzt, so DH has pulled out a Gavi. I have to confess I had a small slice of the bonus pizza for my afternoon snack.
Back to proper eating tomorrow. On the ship there were lots of mirrors, which showed me a vision I was not happy with. The mirror I use at home is on the wall by the bedroom door and, unfortunately, is very flattering. It us a "thin" mirror. I only have to move one step to the right to see the real me in the linen cabinet glass doors, but I have preferred to kid myself. Enough!
The other guests on the ship were a real lesson to me. Many were obese and largely immobile, barely stirring out of their chairs and very compromised in what activity they could do. It was a horrible warning.
I resolve to eat healthily and beautifully, starting tomorrow. These rolls around my middle are very uncomfortable and I do not like it!

Lisa - do you find that by using your elliptical, your balance is better too? My walking partner peddles every day on a recumbent bike to keep her knees flexible.
I was telling her about aiming for a total of 20 minutes on my seated elliptical. And how surprised I was that my legs were so much stronger after using for a short period of time - couple months. I could go up stairs now without them tiring out.
She grinned and said she bet my balance was probably better too, and it struck me - yes, it certainly was.
Now I need to take a clue from Annie and start incorporating some dumbbells into my routine. They are looking at me from a shelf right now, I'd best stop ignoring them.

Regarding mangoes ... there are a number of different varieties.
https://mangoes.net.au/about-australian-mangoes/australian-mango-varieties/
Right now, here in Tassie, we've got Kensington Pride which is all right. They seem to show up early so I usually have a few of them first.
But then Calypso mangoes appear, and that's the kind I go for during the rest of the season.
Last year, we got a huge variety about mid-season. If they appear again, I'm going to have to check the name. They were good but very big and very filling.
Regarding the glass method of scooping mangoes. It only works on ripe mangoes. I could never have used that method on the under-ripe, rock-hard mangoes found in Canada. The riper the mango, the more easily the skin separates from the flesh.
Papayas ... I like dried papayas, but I'm not overly keen on the fresh ones.
Machka in Oz
I never cared for fresh papaya until I started cutting my own. I don't know if it is something the other places put on the cut ones to keep them fresh or what, just had an odd taste to it. The ones I get whole taste so much better but have to be ripe but not over ripe. Mom said the same thing.
I got one yesterday- super great sale at just .49cents a pound at the 99cent store. It is green but will ripen. They do eat it green here too but I prefer mine ripe and sweet.Green is in a salad, like a slaw.1 -

🥂💕 Happy Anniversary 💕🥂
It sounds like you are off to a great start and have a fantastic day planned! Have a wonderful time💕
Annie it’s finally here your special day!
🎉🎂🥳Happy Birthday 🥳🎂🎉
Beth they were extremely delicious! Taste better than they even look if that’s possible. I only had one and a small fudge bite. But the whole container was almost gone by the time we finished with our games. I wish I could go buy more. I’ll have to wait till next year for the next Christmas bazaar.

I really miss having a fireplace too. The one we had when we were growing up was hand made by a friend of the family- all hand picked river rock that either my uncle/grandfather/us picked. Roy had made the same type fireplace at the family cabin on the coast and when we built our house, my parents asked Roy to build one for us. So many great memories of sitting in front of it. For many years, that was the only heat we used. We would sit in front of it until our backs were super hot then run down the hall and jump into bed.
I still love sitting or standing in front of it when I go visit mom. My favorite spot in the whole house.

Heather ... Happy Anniversary! I, too, am motivated by others I see who are struggling with their health. It did not escape my notice while rehabbing my knees this past year that all the women receiving knee replacements were significantly overweight.
November Gratitude: Who I'm Grateful For - First that came to mind was my husband, followed by my deceased son (so, so grateful for the time I had with him and the lessons I learned), my younger son, parents, grandmother and a dear woman named Bernice. But I could go on and on ...
