Sorry the knee is being such a bother, and hope tests show it's not too badly injured. If it helps any, I haven't done anything where I have to kneel in probably 20 years because both knees were wrecked when I was super heavy. There are always work-arounds.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR
Thank you Lisa and everyone.
I've been for an X-ray ... nothing is broken. But then, we didn't think it was. The X-Ray was sort of a formality. I have a GP appointment tomorrow and the recommendation is already that I should get an MRI. I expect that the GP appointment will be a formality as well, to get the referral for the MRI.
The radiology people and I are getting to know each other!
In the last year, I've had so many MRIs, CTs, X-Rays and Ultrasounds for all sorts of different things.
My knees aren't in brilliant shape to begin with either. Way back when, in my early teens, I raced as a runner, a sprinter. I did the 100K, 200K and 400K. I also raced hurdles for a while. Unfortunately, it was a very dry year in southern Alberta and the school, in the small town I where I was living at the time, had a dirt race track ... which had turned to loose dust. Several times after clearing a hurdle, my foot would slip and I'd land on one knee or the other. Eventually I was having trouble even walking, and they discovered that something in both knees had slipped out of place. The doctor popped it back into place, in both knees (OUCH!).
Later, when I had gotten into cycling, I switched to clipless pedals and, as usually happens in the early days with clipless pedals, I didn't clip out in time and fell on my left knee. I large rather painful lump came up. About a week later, I didn't clip out in time again and fell on my left knee. The lump disappeared. Problem solved!
Then another time I was cycling, slipped on ice and ruptured a bursa in one of my knees.
I was constantly falling on my knees!
So kneeling hasn't been particularly comfortable since I was quite young. However, when I garden, I have a thick foam pad to kneel on which helps.
Today was another busy day. I had 2 meetings on at the same time and had one in each ear for a little while!!
Plus I'm trying to figure out something with a piece of software at work that should be so easy and plainly obvious, but it's not. How can software in 2023 not have the ability to recognise wildcards?? There must be a way.

Another very smokey day again. Trying not to be outside too much because of the air quality so finding it more difficult to keep up with my garden this year. Have to go out and do just a bit more weeding this morning as I like it to be as clean as possible. Eating potatoes, carrots, green onions and lettuce so far. Plants are huge this year which is surprising. I don't water my garden and depend on rain. We were very dry earlier in the spring but have had some nice timely rains since. Very big pea pods on the vines so waiting for those to fill out. Our barley field is just starting to head out. Will be interesting to see what size the heads are.
Enjoy your day, ladies.
Joy
I hope your air quality improves soon!
Love garden fresh peas in pods.

The comments about fasting – I know it works well for many, but don’t push if it doesn't work for you that is OKAY.
I had to fast for 24 hours prior to a colonoscopy (according to the paperwork) then drink the clean out solution. At about 20 hours there were snakes and dragons breaking through the walls of my bedroom chasing me around the house, I was scared to death. As I was ready to call 911 (our emergency services) I thought of calling the friend who was taking me to the colonoscopy she came over – talked me down enough and took me to the hospital where the colonoscopy was to happen. Talking to the Doc was scary as he kept shape shifting….. Hallucinations are SCARY - I have never had that before, After it was done and they got “food” in me via iv I was ok again.

When I was doing ultra-distance cycling, I would hallucinate at times. What fun!
It would happen on rides over 400 kilometres, in the middle of the night ... and wasn't just brought on by lack of sleep. It was often brought on by the fact that it's hard to remember to eat, and it's difficult to eat, while cycling through the middle of the night.
Over the years, I had crocodiles and trolls in the ditches, trees that turned into monsters, leaves blowing across the road that turned into broken glass, and one of my favourites: huge statues lining the side of the road, like the statue of liberty and numerous other similar type of statues. I liked that one because I rode for quite a while looking at the detail in each of these massive, amazing statues.
Mine weren't so scary because I had talked to other cyclists and knew that it could happen.
And yes, eating usually made them fade a bit.

Machka - I wrecked my knees so much that I can't even kneel on a pad--any weight directly on the knee, and I'm done.
Tere - Good to see you pop up! Always glad to see your posts. Hope you're doing well...
Kim - I have auditory hallucinations, not visual. The visual ones I only get when I've driven for too long. When the road starts moving instead of the car, I know I need to stop quickly. Haven't done that in a long time. Yours sound absolutely terrifying, as do yours, Machka. Mine are always auditory, and just seem to be my brain trying desperately to decide what my ears are hearing, just in case it's a threat. I even wrote something on it when we lived on the ranch--see the spoiler.
Tracey - The ranch is where I learned that I liked to be alone. It was 45 minutes from anywhere, and there was no one to call within miles. Too remote, no cellphone towers. I was still recovering from my layoff from Cisco, and it took about two years of being in the quiet before I even thought about applying for a job. It helped me heal, because I let it do so.April 2014 - Lisa C Hannon
The deceptive voices of solitary things
I’m not sure we were meant to be solitary.
As the days lengthen toward summer, and I’m alone longer,
I’ve begun to recognize the voices of the things around me.
The tiny, explosive beginning of the kitchen water heater’s whoosh to life,
Followed by the squirbling, burbling union of fire and water
Sounds, for a moment, like shouts in the distance.
The bathroom water heater creaks and clicks and groans
Like an old man rising from a couch,
Then dissolves into a closer conversation outside.
The words are just on the edge of hearing; now they’re gone again.
The pine and fruit trees are aliens in this harsh desert landscape,
Brought to live in a place where they must have help to survive.
The wind through their dusty branches is some long-lost argument,
And when it rises to a howl, it sounds nothing like an engine in the distance.
Until it does.
Something on the shed across the way thumps when the wind is high.
It sounds just like a truck door slamming, humanity returning.
Over and over and over again.
It lies.
The air conditioner’s rustly taffeta skirts draw the rest to her,
Mutes the protests, overwhelming their senses,
Which are no sense at all.
More later perhaps. Didn't sleep much, but didn't expect to. We'll see what today brings.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa

All I've got is a high pitched scream in my ears all the time now. It's a bit difficult to hear much else.
I knew my visual hallucinations were just hallucinations so they didn't worry me too much. But knowing doesn't make them disappear!
The broken glass one, however, was quite realistic and I was weaving around trying to dodge it.

The fish and chips were superb. As always.
Max was delighted with a book DH had bought him, about the misuse of data and statistics. It's really funny. DH read it first on Kindle and we both thought it perfect for Max. Parts of it are quite complicated, but he didn't seem to have a problem with it. He was even reading it on the bus.
We walked back to his flat along the seafront (very blowy) and dropped him off after lunch.
DH went off for a longer walk and I ambled home, stopping at the deli for field mushrooms to have tonight. I probably walked in all two and a half miles, so not a hike, but better than nothing.
This morning, while DH was entertaining Max with drawing hexagons the Ancient Greek way, I phoned G and had a long chat. Happy days.
I had a brainwave this morning and asked my son if he would be my plus one for my niece's wedding in October. He said immediately 'Yes', but I want him to think about it and get DDIL 's blessing. As he doesn't drink, we could drive there and back the same day. I'm crossing all fingers and toes. I've sent him all the details. It would be such a load off my mind.

1. Take a small step to help overcome a problem or worry. I am working on helping my son through this tough time by being in contact with his case worker and tracking his location.
2. Adopt a growth mindset. Change “I can’t” into “I can’t…yet”. I try to never use those words. I follow Yoda’s ‘Do or not, there is no try”
3. Be willing to ask for help when you need it. I will. My back hurts today so will easily ask for help when I need it.
4. Find something to look forward to today. Missed posting this yesterday. So today I am looking forward to my therapy session.
5. Get the basics right: eat well, exercise and go to bed on time. Will do!
6. Pause, breathe, and feel your feet firmly on the ground. Will meditate today to help me do this.
7. Shift your mood by doing something you really enjoy. I really need to do this today. Did not do this. Had a bad day all around yesterday.
8. Avoid saying “must” or “should” to yourself today. I will try.
9. Put a problem in perspective by seeing the bigger picture. Trying to see my son’s decisions through his eyes.
10. Reach out to someone you trust and share your feelings with them. I did not do this.
11. Look for something positive in a difficult situation. My son is bonding with his uncle and grandmother.
12. Write you worries down and save them for a specific “worry time”. I will try to remember to do this. Write them in my journal.
14. Get outside and move to help clear your head. I do this every day, but the triple digit heat is preventing it.
15. Set yourself an achievable goal and take the first step. I have to think about this.
16. Find fun ways to distract yourself from unhelpful thoughts. Controlled breathing helped here.
17. Use one of your strengths to overcome a challenge today. I use tenacity often so expect to use it here.18. Let go of the small stuff and focus on the things that matter.RVRita in NM
19. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.
20. When things go wrong, pause and be kind to yourself.
21. Identify what helped you get through a tough time in your life.
22. Find 3 things you feel hopeful about and write them down.
23. Remember that all feelings and situations pass in time.
24. Choose to see something good about what has gone wrong.
25. Notice when you are being judge mental and be kind instead.
26. Catch yourself over-reacting and take a deep breath.
27. Write down 3 things you are grateful for (even if today was hard).
28. Think about what you can learn about a recent problem.
29. Be a realistic optimist. Focus on what could go right.,
30. Reach out to a friend, family member, or colleague for support.
31. Remember we all struggle at times. It’s part of being human.

Did talk to Jerry. Of course, he’s going to take the cot. I don’t know if it registered with him that I don’t want the rolling eyes. Well, if it happens, I’ll just say “Jerry, stop it”. I’m sure he’ll say something to the effect of “I have this thing running in my mind” (I don’t know how many times he’s said that to me) and I plan to say “The only thing that should be in your mind right now is how uncomfortable sleeping was before you got the cot and our agreement.” But we shall see if it comes to that. I bet it will.
Katla – when is the fair? Have a great time when you go
Tracey – about the voice activated thing, it would have to be something that can withstand the weather since the gecko is outside. Oh well…. On another note: I have a frog that I bought. It’s solar so the eyes light up. We have it as if it’s looking at the gate. For some reason, the green frog turned a blue. So we have a blue frog. If anything, it’s something different. Great shirts. I like ones with a V-neck. So many t-shirts have the rounded neck
M – I have a table for my sewing machine that has a leaf that comes up and surrounds the machine.
Melissa – welcome! Of course it’s OK that you join! Come back often so we get to know more about you.
Going to go out and shuck the second bag of corn then cook it. It’s noon and Steve still isn’t up. Guess he’s having a good night.

More thoughts on choosing an exercise program that is personally satisfying. Many years ago I tried lap swimming because I had a friend who said it was great. I went long enough to realize that it didn't meet my requirements in two ways. I couldn't listen to music while I swam and it required changing clothes to do it. A few years later I went to water aerobics with a friend and had a great time and got a very satisfactory workout accompanied by fun music. Then I realized that it wouldn't work for me because it required changing clothes to do it. Now I walk and dance and ride my exercise bike and do a few things with hand weights. I can do all of that in the same clothes I wear for my regular life and can listen to music or podcasts or audio books at the same time. Once again the lesson is that what's fun for other people may not be fun for me and vice versa.

I mostly use portion control when actively losing weight. I am a very fussy eater so I don’t try to put anything off the table completely. I do try to cut back the carbs though. It’s a hard one for me.

Beautiful shirts.👍🏼💖 My son has a cricut machine and makes amazing shirts. Its been interesting to see our letters evolve into more depth and not just a grocery list of stuff about them. I have always told them that my letters to them are like sitting on a porch with cups of coffee, chatting. Easy conversations with good friends.👍🏼💖. As I am writing I have a cup of black espresso coffee. The bitterness is a representation of the hard challenges I face. Each sip, I am one step closer to managing. Last night twice I got into a state of a good cry with regards to my absent younger son in my life. But twice I just didn't go there, didn't let it consume me. It was hard, my breathing, where is he breathing sort of mental things. Today I will organize my cookies into a container for the freezer. One every so often. They are oatmeal with whole wheat flour, walnuts, coconut flakes, and dark chocolate chips (Lilly's sugar free).

Yes the cookies are humongous!🙃😂. I was thinking like a breakfast cookie.
Today I think I will do a "mealless Monday" in Lisa's honor. So my next meal is noon Tuesday. For me being hungry isn't an emergency, I'm just resetting, and healing. When I open my eating window it will be a piece of turkey while I chop veggies for a salad. Then later on a serving of sauted zucchini, mushrooms and sweet onions all chopped with a T of butter and blobs of garlic paste and Italian herbs paste, then some pasta and 1/4 cup of my homemade sauce. I will end it with a cookie and black coffee.

Set my alarm for 7:30 for every day to start walking again. After setting it I got a call fro Ezie's mom- grandma will be taking her to swimming lessons then bring her here at 1 but leave her until 5(instead of 4) each day for the next two weeks.
I could have walked later but I was awake so went out and walked the neighborhood for an hour. First time around here in a years.
Glad I went when I did. It was warming up already by the time I got back. Wed. will be warmer.
I plan on walking around here M,W, F to go with Zumba M and W. T andTH I will drive over to the wetlands and walk there for an hour and a half.. I really miss walking there.
No word if they plan on having Ezie here just two days a week or if they will keep it the way it is for now and switch to 2 days when I want to.
More drama with MIL- wants to go into a home- thinks they will cater to her every wish. She thinks she can take the dog and they will take care of it for her and feed it. She is clueless on the cost- Looks like it will be about $5000 a month if she shares a room. She will not be able to cook any more and will have to eat what they make- not have someone bringing take out twice a day like dh is doing now.
Talked him into not selling the house right away like she wants to do. She has enough money in the bank to last her a few years there along with FIL's pension (it will pay not quite half). We will have son move in over there so the house isn't empty. Plus, if she gets kicked out of the place, she will have a place to come back to as a last resort. I hope it happens so we can get a little time for us. The verbal abuse she puts dh through almost daily(a lot of times both times he goes over there each day) is not good for him and I am tired of dealing with him and his bad attitude because of it.
Need to go mow the back lawn before it gets much warmer and before Ezie gets here.
Have class tonight that I am looking forward to(have my fan in my car-not enough fans in that big room we use)
Have a wonderful Monday Ladies
