Barbie - How tough on you and Jake (and the pups) Hope he is feeling better soon, or maybe a trip to the Doctor if no improvement in a week or so. the strains/twists can take a long time to feel 100% better.
sending hugs.

She's probably thinking about buying more bicycles.
Congrats Pip! Being debt free is great!

Carol had someone put their hand into our checking account years ago. We think it was skimmed at a local restaurant. Our bank let us know right away. This is when they had the work force to do this. Same with my credit card account. When that happened I called the places that had the charge and let them know too. One was for some airline tickets hopefully they were able to invalidate the tickets because it was caught so quickly. I would have loved to see the face of the person thinking they had a valid airline ticket and then not be able to use it. Same when they brought back their exercise clothes for cash. Like you I check these accounts daily to be part of the defense to catch fraud early.
Currently reading Stuff Your Face or Face Your Stuff by Dorothy Breininger. She is one of the people who helps people with hoarding issues on Hoarders. It is her story of how she shed seventy five pounds. Her honesty in telling about the mistakes she made in her life and how she worked through and still working through to improve her life, relationships, health, and spirituality I found a compelling read. The heart of the story is facing her addiction to sugar and junk food. What I like about her story is her ideas could be applied to any addiction...alcohol, overspending, hoarding. How she improved her relationship with her mom made me cry.
She interviewed her and asked her about the different periods in her life. Once she really listened what her mother went through in World War ll it cracked open her heart. Her mother at the age of twelve had to figure out how to cook dinner for her family that was minus a father in their home that was destroyed in the war while her mother worked. She realized that many of the issues she took as nagging from her mom were really based in love. Her mother had her best interest at heart. Some of the pressures her mother put on her were based on her mother's fears because of what she went through during and after the war.
One thing she did for herself was find a picture of herself as a little girl where she felt the sky was the limit. She posts that picture by her bedside. For various reasons I did not have that picture of myself as that little girl. What I do is go back to that little girl and give her the love she needed so she can now reach for that sky.
It had been the right follow up book for me after reading Organized Enough.

Lisa - thank you for the kind words. I'm reminded of Ram Dass: "We are just walking each other home." I am so grateful to be walking with you wonderful ladies.
Pip - congrats on being debt free. What a wonderful feeling! Kirby throwing everything at the finish line to get the car paid off reminds me of the final push to win a race. And you did.
Carol - happy that you aren't on the hook for the $$, but sorry for the hassle. After a friend had his card info stolen at a local gas station several years ago, I read an article on how the crooks did it with somehow deftly inserting their own reader into the chip/swipe slot. Ever since then, I take a second to look there to see if anything looks different, loose, etc. Dirty buggers. I'm sure they are working on something that is harder to spot.
Heather - thank you for the photos. Looks like they are making do, it's good that they can co-exist with the disruption. Your DIL is probably working on a book about it as we speak - "how to keep sanity when living in the midst of things you can't control told from the front lines" or similar.
Regarding Dan Buettner's interview, what jumped out at me was how much we spend on various diet programs and foods, gym memberships, exercise equipment, etc., when folks who live in the Blue Zones don't have any of that and are much healthier for it. They walk, talk to neighbors and friends and family members, and are physically active. It made me think of my farmer parents and grandparents who lived long and mostly healthy lives. Big meat eaters, but always busy and working hard and puttering, even into their advanced years.
It made me think about what small changes I have made in my diet and what other things I can do to preserve my health as I age. I need to rewatch that interview.
Another chilly morning here, I'm walking with my neighbor at 7 so will bundle up. Looking forward to it.

Heather - I would be just completely loopy living in that kind of chaotic space, if I were your DDIL. Add the money pressure on top, and the inside of your head starts feeling like the area around you. Stressed is probably an understatement, bless her.
Machka - an Australian possum (including baby in pouch) caught by Caitlin Henderson, Wildlife Photographer of the Year. I find it interesting how things we've discussed come up over and over again afterward... or maybe they just stay in my consciousness.
Barbie - Hope Jake is doing much better today, or that getting him to a doctor is relatively easy if not. It's hard when you're responsible for everyone. Thinking about you all.
Trying a new recipe this evening, and it appears I will have to run to the store anyway, as Walmart was out of fresh ginger and it won't be included in this morning's delivery. Hope one of the grocery stores does! I had hoped to stay home, but that's OK, I need to go stop in and talk to them at the local water department anyway. There's a large puddle around the water meter, and it's not drying up at all, so there's a slow leak somewhere. Hopefully on their side, and not ours... but either way, it needs fixing, so I need them to come look at it.
Later, dear hearts,
Love,
Lisa7 -
Jake is feeling better this morning. He used the ice pack I brought him in the middle of the night and has been staying seated or lying down. He may still call the doctor and we're looking to borrow a walker for awhile but there has been less moaning and groaning this morning.
I knew there was no Santa the year my doll disappeared for a few days and then miraculously got some new homemade dresses for Christmas.

Lisa - And I only showed you the better bits! Much of the house is covered in plaster dust. I had to walk down the stairs sideways to avoid getting pink muck all over my white trainers! The front living room and Bea's bedroom are still storage zones. I did up two houses and both times had severe depression. Ugh!
Spent my writing time writing a chapter about death. We have a heatwave, but I was nearly naked and had my fabulous fan blowing over me. BLISS!
Waitrose delivery in a minute.
I wanted to show you a photo DDIL took of Bea sometime over the summer.

LOVE that picture of Bea, Heather. What a character she is--she's going to be an absolutely amazing adult.1

A full morning already. We went shopping at 8am, then headed out to meet up with our garden group at the Walked Garden at Bangor Castle, Our City Hall. (Think Central Park in a very small NewYork). We are having our usual September ‘Indian Summer’. Always happens when the schools restart 😝
Margaret: That resonates so much with me, although my father wasn’t away as he worked in the aircraft industry. They told stories of fleeing into the countryside and hills round Belfast in the night during German bombing raids on the shipyard and aircraft factory. Mom was evacuated for a while with my baby brother. I wasn’t born until after the war ended. I have a picture of my 3 year old self with my older brother on my dressing table. It used to hang above the fireplace in my childhood home.
Barbie: Hoping Jake goes to dr sooner rather than later. He needs proper support for those injuries.
Heather: Shades of Grand designs 😝 The renos always take longer than anticipated, and cost more. But it will look amazing when it’s completed.
Pip: You must feel ecstatic to be debt free. We paid our mortgage off with DH’s redundancy money. It made such a difference, as he was able to go into a more fulfilling less well paid job without impacting our standard of living.
Ginny: Would pedicure spacers work.
Rebecca: That is the most beautiful letter. It preserves, and enhances the whole idea. I truly believe that most parents would love to have received that letter as children.

Good morning!
Tracey Yes, there is a Margaritaville here in Pigeon Forge. Food is good as are the drinks. The atmosphere is fun.
Credit card and identity fraud Always file a police report for identity fraud. The police can't do much but if a crime is committed using your identity it helps to have a report on file. Someone stole mine a few years ago. Tried to open up 4 different credit cards. Luckily one of the companies I deal with notified me immediately. The thieves got nothing but my piece of mind for awhile. Locked down credit reports and reported to banking institutions. They had my social security number. I then had my credit card hacked once. It was a rough year. I do keep a close check on those things now.
Rebecca I love the santa letter! I realized there was no santa around 7 yo. We always caroled as a family on our street and handed out small gifts. Parents drank lots. Gifts not sorted right in stockings. The next year I stayed up and put things right for my brother and sister to keep their joy going a few more years. The joy's of alcoholic parents. My girls were closer to 9 and 11. The youngest figuring it out the year before her sister. My grands about the same age.
Since we are staying in a cabin with stairs I have a goal of 10 flights a day. Yesterday at Anakeesta and the cabin I had 21 flights! There is a tall tower that overlooks Gatlinburg. I will post some pics later. Dh hit 10k steps while we were out and about. I somehow was 2000 less. Walked driveway and ended day at 10, 243. Then put fitbit on charge. Calves a little tender this morning. We found my DH a new hat and me a new leather purse. Where I packed his old hat got it crushed-oops. His new hat is nice.
5. Try not to blame yourself for all things that go wrong.....this is a challenge for me. Work in progress.
Pip and Kirby Congratulations! Debt free is a wonderful feeling!
Not sure of plans today but for now loving the mountains.
Healing thoughts!
Congratulations!
Make the best choices you can at the time.

Selfy on way down from Anakeesta
I could visit Anakeesta everyday. The flower beds are wonderful. I love the views from the tower. There is also a treetop walkway with wooden walkways between the tops of the trees. I would love to go at night, but DH would have difficulties seeing when it is dark.
Not logging food, but making mindful choices. Bison burger, no bun, green beans and a few of DH's fries for dinner last night. Had hoped to have room for dessert, but no. Brought it home and had two bites before bed. Hoping the exercising will help with alcoholic beverage calories
PS. I got a senior discount- LOL! 60 is the magic number here!
Just sharing......

Nice photos!
And lucky you with the senior's discount. We don't get that sort of thing here until we're well into our 60s. My husband occasionally gets a discount now.

Lisa nice workout area.
Pip, congratulations on being debt free.
Carol, good for you to catch the fraud!
My sister and I got home yesterday from the cancer center. She has a good care team of doctors and new to the team is an endocrinologist helping to identify hormonal issues caused by immunotherapy. The next texts will be in October to measure if the steroids have jump started the pituitary and thyroid's production of hormones. So my sister will leave to visit her youngest daughter and family in San Francisco on Friday for a week and then spend time with her husband in Alaska and return back to WA for her appointments in early October. I worry about her traveling but she masks all the time and wants to take this next month to spend with kids, grandkids and her husband. Her attitude is amazing. I'm working on mine... I've been a bit weepy but realize I need to be grateful for the time we have.
My membership at the Y has been on hold since July and I will reactivate it when my sister leaves. I walk with my dog, Ella but really love the pool at the Y. Going to the Y will be good for me because I chat with some people I've known for years, it really is an exercise and social place for me.

Kylia ~ Your vacation photos are lovely. Wow! What a lot of steps to get to the top of the tower. Glad you are having fun.
Lanette and Margaret ~ You both contribute such good advice to all of us! Thanks so much for helping us keep informed.
It took me almost 3 hrs (mostly holding online) to get my SS and Teacher Retirement deposits changed to the new bank account number. So glad that is done!

Rita - the Flying Saucer Party and events are coming up again the weekend of Sept 23rd. Do you think any of your "neighbors" would like to swoop in after circling Mt. Rainier and make an appearance? If so, why not see if you can hitch a ride and I'll grab you and take you out to healthy lunch.
Betsy - I hope your sis has good trips to San Francisco and back up to Alaska. Your Y sounds like a wonderful place. My gym has the Silver Sneakers program, and from what I hear there are many regulars that make it a social event and they even have snacks and pot lucks from time to time. For those of us that live a bit (or a lot) north of the 45 parallel, we'll soon have short rainy days and going to gyms or using equipment might be our only opportunity to safely exercise. The social aspect is icing on the cake, for sure.
Those group classes at my gym have been moved to later in the morning which doesn't fit for me right now. I might change my mind once fall gets here.
Barbie - so glad the ice is helping Jake. I'm sure he is frustrated by this and especially, now that Bodhi's training is underway, he has to sit on the sidelines. Sending heaps of patience for you, Jake, Bessie and Bodhi!
Stopped by the car repair place yesterday, they took a quick look under the hood - all fluid levels look OK and the engine oil leak is still teensy and should stay that way for a long time. Crossing fingers.
