Tracey – see, taking care of PJ in his house presents a wee bit of a problem. We have no idea of what that city has except for the park we took him to, the movies, and the bowling alley. We know of the ceramics place we go to, but that isn’t a very kid friendly place (well, not a 5 year old). Guess we’ll just have to google places and most likely drive. The closest Chuck E. Cheese that I know of is about an hour away.
Michele NC
Look at it from PJ's perspective. His parents are gone ... and he'd be in a new place if he went to your place. That could be quite traumatic.
Google can help, but there's also nothing wrong with playing with him at home.

Only slept for an hour last night. Heart racing. Lots of meditation and reading. Got up before the alarm.
All went well from then on until this delay taking off.
They asked for one volunteer to give up a seat. Offered another flight, hotel, and £500. They got one! Another young chap was disappointed.
I'm separated from my handbag at the moment because I had to stow it. Will get it back later, but I hate that.
Not good at waiting 😕 😞.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxx
Stow in the overhead bins?
I fly with a backpack (which goes into the overhead bins) and a very small handbag with the essentials, which goes under the seat in front of me during take off and landing.

I have had an interesting day. Got a message late yesterday that my favourite cousin Jamie, and his wife Helen were in our town today, and would I like to meet up. He lives in Nottingham, England, and was home to visit with his younger brother, Eddie, who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. Needless to say, we met up with them in town, and spent hours catching up with them. His wife is from Donegal, so they had been over there for about a week between visits to his brother. Eddie isn’t up to many visitors, but I will try and go visit him some time in the next few weeks.
Then tonight I couldn’t find my pocketbook, which had my phone and cards in it. Panic stations, as we searched the house for it to no avail, and assumed I had left it behind at the cafe. It was over an hour until remembered I had ‘Find my Phone’ on my iPad, and switched it on to find that it had been at the restaurant until about the time we left, and miracle of miracles, it appeared to be at home. So we re-searched the house, and eventually found it under 2 coats on the banister in our back hall. Such a relief. Panic over!
Lisa: The bowls are lovely. I had a few like that myself when I started using the wheel. (Ceramics was my specialty in college)
Annie: I know how frustrating it can be when dealing with our elders. Its so difficult to become the parent figure. It’s a long furrow we have to plough. Dementia is a thief who slowly steals our nearest and dearest away from us.
Heather: Loving all the pics. Bringing back fond memories of holidays in France.
Loving the kiddie pics, too. It’s amazing how quickly they are growing.
Ah well! Time to climb the wooden hill.

Lisa..hope your ok..you've been quiet.

2023 Optimistic October1. Write down three things you can look forward to this month.
Daylight Savings Time!! - which occurred early in the morning of October 1.
Spring's developments
Thanksgiving
2. Find something to be optimistic about (even if it’s a difficult time)
There's lots to be optimistic about!
Daylight in evenings so we can start exercising outdoors after work.
Work going well. Finished that instruction manual and got myself in a good position to make improvements to the project I'm working on.
Reading books. Colouring. Doing sudokus.
Getting stuff done on my home computer.
The garden!
My family.
3. Take a small step to a goal that really matters to you.
Taking steps toward the "organise the house" project.
4. Start the day with the most important thing on your to-do-list.
I've actually done quite a few things already today.
5. Be a realistic optimist. See life as it is but focus on what’s good.
I'm definitely not a pure optimist. Too much has happened, especially in the last 5 years, for me to call myself an optimist, but there are a lot of good things going on too.
6. Remind yourself that things can change for the better.
I know!!
7. Look for the good in people around you today.
Most people have been really helpful and nice lately.
8. Make some progress on a project or task you’ve been avoiding.
Not quite yet. Maybe at some point next week.
9. Share an important goal with someone you trust.
I don't make a lot of goals these days.
10. Take time to reflect on what you have accomplished recently.
I've been reflecting on what I've accomplished over the past 5 years. I look back and wonder how I did it.
11. Avoid blaming yourself or others. Find a helpful way forward.
It helps to try to look at things from other perspectives.
12. Look out for positive news and reasons to be cheerful today.
There's lots to be positive about. Loved Rita's post with a list of all our positive things.
13. Ask for help to overcome an obstacle you are facing.
Asking the pharmacist for a recommendation to overcome this allergic reaction?!?
14. Do something constructive to improve a difficult situation
One constructive thing I've done today is to wash my pillowcases to ensure they don't have any essential oil residue!!17. Thank yourself for achieving the things you often take for granted.
18. Put down your to-list and do something fun or uplifting.
19. Take a small step toward a positive change you want to see in society.
20. Set hopeful, but realistic goals for the days ahead.
21. Identify one of your positive qualities that will be helpful in the future.
22. Find joy in tackling a task you’ve put off for some time.
23. Let go of the expectations of others and focus on what matters to you.
24. Share a hopeful quote, picture, or video with a friend or colleague
25. Recognize that you have a choice of what to prioritize.
26. Write down three specific things that have gone well recently.
27. You can’t do everything! What are three priorities right now?
28. Find a new prospective on a problem you face.
29. Be kind to yourself today. Remember progress takes time.
30. Ask yourself ‘will this still matter a year from now?’
31. Plan a fun or exciting activity to look forward to.
32. Identify three things that give you hope for the future.
33. Set a goal that brings a sense of purpose for the coming month.

The red lumps and bumps on my cheekbones seem to be easing a bit. That's a step in the right direction.
I hope the worst bit down the right side of my neck would start improving.
It's so itchy and sore at the same time, but I know that scratching would be a very bad idea.

Rebecca – love your Scrabble board
Lisa – how old is Haley? She’s beautiful, well, all the kids are
Terri – thank goodness you found your pocketbook! I know that I would really really be upset if mine ever got lost!
At BK they were going to throw away these lids for some sort of plate (plastic). I told them I’d take them to the soup kitchen. If they can’t use them, they can throw them out just as well as BK can.
Went to dinner, had salmon. Jess just left.
Don’t know why, I have a bad case of the munchies right now. Totally forgot to give Jess the coleslaw I made for her and the apple crisp. Oh well……

raccoons We have A LOT of raccoons in the park. The powers that be changed all the trash cans (except the dumpsters) into animal-proof ones. The are difficult to open with arthritis in you hands, but they are better than the trash the coons would strew all over the park. These make my job much easier. My DH took an electric fence thing and a piece of old fencing we have and ‘electrified’ our outside trash can. This taught the raccoons to stay away from our stuff. They get zapped once and don’t come back! Of course my DH and I regularly get zapped by accidentally touching the fencing. It doesn’t hurt but sure does surprise you! Since this idea, no more raccoon feet on our car or finding our trash spread out all over the place.
RVRita in raccoon-free Bottomless Lakes.
I SO wanted to do the electric fence around my nectarine tree in the front but dh told me I couldn't- Not to keep the four legged critters out but to keep the two legged thieves from taking all my nectarines. Two of the three years it produced, someone stole all of them over night. This year we didn't get any because of peach leaf curl-not one fruit this year
I walked MIL's dog this morning. Was a bit misty when we left our house but was pretty warm by the time I was done- was really wishing I hadn't worn my soft fleece hoodie.
Did some shopping, of course.
Got some great deals at Grocery Outlet. Boneless skinless chicken breasts for .99 a pound- bought three packs- one pack already cooked and ready for the cats(3 for the cats, 2 for us. All are chopped up.One has Korean BBQ sauce like pulled pork and the other is chopped to go in quesidilla w/ some canned green chilis and cheese for dinner tonight
Got some packages of dry soup mix- add water and simmer 5 min. Dh tried the tomato dill and I had the potato broccoli. I did add a diced baked potato to mine. They were good and super filling. 4/$1!! Also got a mushroom and a mixed veggie. These will be great add ons this winter for lunches and also for dh when he wants something to eat in the evening, after dinner, for a late night snack. I just need to figure out how to do them in the microwave so he can make his own when he wants them
Neighbors across the street are having a party- Filipino Karaoke- A few of the ladies are pretty good, one really good, but, one of the guys, I think he is our neighbor/home owner, he is trying
All the old tunes- The Carpenters, Frank Sinatra, etc

Thankful I found this group. Restarted using MFP but still figuring out all this.
Rejoined my MFP about 4 days ago at 312 and now down to 309. I have no diagnosed health issues or diseases like high blood pressure or diabetes but it will come if I do not get my obesity under control. I am on no meds. Going through perimenopause which is causing me some issues. Life is pretty good although my teens and adult children cause me anxiety only because I have to learn to let go and just let them learn by mistakes, etc.
So that is about all for me.

Rosemarie - I hope you don’t have to become a caregiver again, that’s a big ask and I bet some of your tiredness is still trying to recover from the stress of the last few years.
Kylia - I don’t understand how your SIL, as a co owner doesn’t know how to do everything.
I hope you have a nice trip to the farm.
Lisa - I love watching my adult girls and their marriages and how they manage their lives.
Kaitlyn and Brodey are much like Kelsey and Cruz, they notice the little things about each other and treat each other with so much respect. They have worked hard at it. They have been together 14 years now.
My other daughter and her husband always seem happy, but on Thanksgiving I got the impression that there was something going on between them. I hope it’s just a glitch in the matrix.
Heather - sounds like another wonderful day.
Tina - I love when people share their travel photos. I hope you enjoy your day and your back gets better soon.
Pip - I like your numbers tonight.
Lanette - I’m going to watch that video and look at the pdf tomorrow.
Rita - I love the pictures. We didn’t get to see the eclipse here.
Michele - Michaela was 5 the first time I took her to ceramics with me. If PJ is into painting or colouring he would probably enjoy it.
Thanksgiving was pretty easy, I don’t mind cooking for a crowd, I actually like it better than just the two of us. There isn’t much more work for 2 or 10, just bigger pots really.
Lisa - I bet you do miss your grands. Haley is beautiful.
You got a lot accomplished, when are you starting the Reno?
Terri - I have read about Donegal in one or more of Nora Roberts books. She has a few books that include Ireland.
It’s so scary when we can’t find our phones, wallets, keys…
Our daughter sent me a FB message the other night asking me to call her phone as she had misplaced it. After me trying about 6 times she found it in her car in the garage. It had fallen between the seat and door on the passenger side.
She then told me she went looking for it to call her DH to tell him they had water in their crawl space. She decided by the time we were done talking to let him come home before telling him.
I ended up crafting all day. I’m sending gifts to NB with Kaitlyn tomorrow. I have to finish a couple other things tomorrow. I made a bag for my SIL and a travel cup for my nephew.

Allie: I am impressed you found such help for your father in law! My husband had paid caregivers which was still cheaper than a nursing home but still didn't cover most of the hours in the week.
I have been up since 4am. Last evening my brother and I had a text conversation about the possibility of my mother leaving MA and coming to live with me in GA. I think this would shock her. She is 92. We are friendly but not close. She is a terrific grandmother and a very nice person. I want to be a good daughter but must admit the thought of caregiving again is exhausting. She lives independent right now and is active. I don't think it will happen but am not sure what will happen.
I want to leave town every 3 months while I am still young enough to do so. Maybe this isn't in the cards for me.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia
Personally, if I were in your situation, I would prefer to wait a year and then think about it.
If the thought of being a caregiver is exhausting now, it's probably not the right time.
I love going to school, but each time I complete a degree or something, I'm done. I don't want to return to school. The very thought is overwhelming.
But then, about 5 years later, I'm back in school again. I'm ready for it again.
I graduated from my most recent degree in December 2020. I am most definitely not ready to return to school right now. I may never be ready to return to school. But who knows ... perhaps, when university starts up in February 2026, I might be there. We'll see.
Anything big and intense is like that ... including caregiving.
Maybe, after a year or a few years you'll be ready again.
