Another soothing Christmas Youtube video..
Thanks Pip..1 -
Worked then had to stop at CVS for a prescription. Home and made ginger cookies that I’ll freeze for Christmas Eve. Then Vince and I went to Michael’s because he wanted to get this green molding clay. See, the ceramic tree he made is in 3 pieces and you can see a bit of light where the parts go so he wanted some clay to just fill in so that you don’t see the light. Then went to Belk’s because there was a baking tray that Jess wanted and at Belk’s it was $20 on sale for $15 plus I had a coupon for $15 off any item. So, we got it for free. Got dinner ready to microwave. Church in a few.
The plan tonight is to make cheddar biscuits.
Tracey – WOO HOO. Knew you would do it!!!
The plan for tomorrow is to do a Michelle Dozois Your Best Body Circuit DVD then it’s supposed to rain (I'll believe it when it’s on the ground) so I also have Leslie Sansone’s Walk Away the Pounds DVD just in case I can’t go outside.
My throat has been pretty scratchy lately. Hot tea (with honey) seems to help sooth it
Joy – what about Uno?

I made the almond flour "chaffle" in my waffle iron just now, it turned out great. No sticking. Sprayed the waffle iron with LouAnn coconut oil spray. Taste is very good, like a light and airy regular waffle. Here's what it looks like:
The recipe again if anyone wants it:
I just put all ingredients in a bowl, mixed thoroughly with a little whisk, poured it onto the hot waffle iron at setting #3 which I think is a medium time setting.
Total for one "chaffle" - 11 grams protein, 2 grams fiber, 5 grams carbs, 26 grams fat - 11 of those are from the mayo. This is a keto type recipe, so not worried about the fat.

Michelle, I actually have Uno and have it set aside. Thank you for the reminder. Good card game we can all play. Spoke to my daughter and she asked the 8 year to pick out 2 of her favourite board games to bring along…..Connect4 and Perfection are coming with them. The granddaughter is excited….so cute. Nice to build good memories with them and for them.

Just got caught up reading 129 posts. I was behind 3 days.
My mom’s sister passed away not long ago. I found a digital picture of her that her daughter took and had it put on the 5x7 magnetic photo at Walgreens. I also bought her a Christmas garden flag because the last time I was there she didn’t have one. I took them to her today. She lives with her brother. They didn’t really like the picture of her and she already bought a Christmas garden flag. I felt like both gifts were a flop. Ugh!
I got up this morning craving biscuits and gravy. I haven’t had any since I started my weight loss journey. If I can holdout til Christmas, I’ll get some. We have breakfast food at my sisters for dinner that day. We started that a few years ago. Everyone got tired of turkey and ham all the time. I figured that day and the 23rd (early Christmas Eve get together with appetizers to eat) I won’t track my calories. I plan on just enjoying the day.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday tomorrow!

Jennifer: Welcome
Machka: Hauling the rocks requires some strength. I think I could have done it 10 years ago but not now! I didn't realize your son and his family live so close. What a blessing!
Michele; Good going on getting the baking tray for free!
Allie: I love the painting of Homer. I would like to do Wreaths Across America for my Dad one year. He is buried on Cape Cod.
Annie: Can your Dad handle your Mom. They both seem frail in different ways. It is good going that your parents aren't in a nursing home. This is because of you that they are not. But it is thin going being the only one involved day to day with your parents. If something were to happen to you for a few days you would have limited back up. It might take a day or 2 for your sister to get to your parents. An affiliation with a Home Health agency worked for us. Even if someone comes in once a week for four hours, you could go horseback riding and do the shopping. But if something happened you would have an account with this agency and have a better chance of having back up.
As very sad as ALS is and it is a dragon...but it is a disease that the medical community has people handle at home. In fact it can be difficult to get an ALS patient on BiPAP into a nursing home. But by having a disease that is handled at home we didn't spend down our savings on a nursing home. We did spend a good chunk on home care but not compared to nursing home costs. A small investment in a personal care assistant or nursing assistant might be better than risking your Dad caring for your Mom.
Also I had food delivered while caring for my husband. I didn't want the precious time I had outside the house to be spent on food shopping. Again it cost money but better than having me completely burn out. I was exhausted. I did not wake refreshed.
I barely got through some days. Well so much for being on my soap box!
Does the hospice have a respite program? Is your mother willing to do this?
A few weeks ago I mentioned about apple slices for fondue and my fear of getting chocolate on the table cloth. I purchased pre-cut apple slices and these worked well. When I got to the gathering I was asked to carry 4 small fondues to each end of 2 tables with candles underneath them. I was asked because i was the "youngest". I am soooo glad I didn't know a head of time that I would be doing this!
I have been asked to join the group again tomorrow at another house. This is an advent group that has been getting together for years. I didn't have a top to wear to this so I went to the mall this afternoon and went to the store where i purchased the top I wore last week and asked if they had it in another color. They did and it was on sale! If you find a top that works then it is okay to get it in multipe colors! I doubt a single person will realize it is the same top as last week!
I still have boxes in the halls. I will work on these on Monday. I will get my COVID booster on Monday as well.
Thanks everyone for "listening" to my rambles.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia

Some of the things I did when my husband came home from hospital after his brain injury ...
- ordered groceries (and other things) online and had them delivered.
- arranged for a landscaper to come and mow the lawn once a month.
- had a housecleaner come once ... unfortunately that didn't work as well as I had hoped as it distressed my husband terribly
- at home, I play a lot of the songs he remembered from years ago. That usually make him relax.
- when we watch TV, it's usually comedies or home and garden shows and that sort of thing. Rarely anything dark.
- here we have something called Community Rehab: https://outpatients.tas.gov.au/clinics/community_rehabilitation_unit_cru which he attended for quite a while. I think sometimes they come out to the house too, and work with the whole family to help the person with the disabilities be able to do things like use the toilet, etc.

Rosemarie you are right it would be much better to have some backup. But mom is failing fast and my sister is due back late Sunday night. So if I can hold on a little longer, things will change.
The hospice does have respite care, but to them it means the patient goes in a home for a week to give the caregiver a break. And I almost got a volunteer sitter but then mom got worse and now she needs more care. So I have to talk to them again. I have a feeling the main nurse will come out Monday.
The big question is how long mom will last, and nobody knows. I have mostly been calm, but I cry when visitors cry. It could be hours or days or possibly weeks. My aunt came over today, and her viewpoint was grim. We all cried.
At least mom seems to be mostly pain free. And she thinks she has the flu; she has totally forgotten the cancer. She had a good long life so far. But I think we should start planning her funeral.
Carpe diem, my friends!

Made garlic cheddar biscuits. This is the first time I tried that recipe. The taste is good, but I think they should have been thicker

I'm feeling your pain, Annie. It is heartbreaking. I hope your sister can get to you soon.
Take care.
