Dude if your motabolism has stopped then youll be in the morgue
If your gaining weight its because your eating too much
I heard yesterday your metabolism stops of you don't eat every 2 hours. I simply said your body is a lot smarter than that. Then burst out laughing when a visual of your metabolism shutting down like a nuclear power plant meltdown at 2 hrs and 15 min popped up in my head.16 -

I can't get past this part. Warm shake? I just barfed a little.
I think that is called "soup."22 -

-Food made from wheat based flour will make you gain weight automatically because your body can't digest it.
-You need to have a superfood shake every morning to jump start your metabolism. (No idea what is in this other than broccoli and hemp protein powder but it must be served warm).
-Apple cider vinegar should be drank twice a day to flush toxins.
-All sugar is the devil unless its organic maple syrup or honey. Then you can have as much as you want because its healthy.
-Any oil other than extra virgin olive oil will make you gain weight but olive oil will make you lose it so put it in everything.
I'm sure there's more but I've started to tune her out. The 20+ pounds I've lost so far doing CICO are going to come right back though because I'm not eating the right foods lol.
She sounds...um...challenging Does she follow all these rules herself?
Yes she does. Including the warm shakes. Yuck!
I have cold shakes in warm weather and room temperature shakes in cold weather.0 -

I once saw a dietitian (yes, a proper RD, certified and all, and part of a large academic medical center) who told me that if I were serious about losing weight, I should cut to less than 1,000 calories a day, and consider meal replacement shakes. Oh, and that no one in the field really bothered about calculating BMR/RMR/TDEE (I had been flirting with MFP at that point, but hadn't joined), and that I was overthinking it, and that restriction was the best way to go.
This came *after* I told her I had a history of a restrictive eating disorder.
I was seeing her because I wanted help losing some of the weight that I had gained when I went on an insulin pump, because I was a type 1 diabetic, and I wanted help doing it safely. At the time, I was about 10-15 pounds overweight (157, at 5'4") -- and it entirely was the weight I had gained after going on the pump. She was/is the dietitian affiliated with the endocrinology practice. I left that appointment thinking that wow, I really must be as fat as I thought I was. (It wasn't helped when I reached out to my then-endocrinologist asking for a new referral, and he offered to send me to the dietitians down at the bariatric surgery practice.)
Needless to say, I never went back to see her.7 -

She is constantly making comments about me eating fruit... You know it is HIGH IN SUGARS... ya, natural sugars and I am not diabetic so... (insert eye roll here) She has also made comments about the amount of water I drink during the day and any time I eat Tuna Fish, because "you know what they say about eating too much tuna fish" I don't claim to know much about anything, all I do know is that I have been able to lose weight and more importantly, my most recent blood test, show that I am spot on with my nutrients and show no deficiencies sooooooo... (insert tongue biting here) LOL
If you're eating tuna several times a week, I see where she is coming from (although I don't approve of her methods.)
Due to mercury contamination, the EPA recommends limiting tuna to a serving a week. Standard blood work doesn't test mercury levels, and this wouldn't be considered a deficiency.
https://www.fda.gov/downloads/Food/FoodborneIllnessContaminants/Metals/UCM537120.pdf
It depends on the Tuna, canned(which most people are talking about) light tuna (aka skipjack, I buy chunk light)) is 2-3 servings a week and Tuna thats NOT skipjack chunklight is one serving a week. I eat a lot of seafood but I eat on the lower end of the mercury scale, I probably eat well more than what is recommended but had my mercury level checked and it was fine. Just stay on the low end.3 -
Oh I've had quite a few . . . my newest favourite is this one
In finally telling people about my dealings with binge eating disorder and getting the cravings under control . . . one person actually said to me "Well, that's ok - at least you aren't throwing up after you eat all that"
My jaw actually dropped. I had nothing to say.
Although I think my all time, hands down, favourite is this: Don't eat after 7 . . . you will definitely gain weight if you eat after 7.
like really, you'll gain weight if you eat more than you need to at any time of the day. Your body doesn't think "OMG It's 7:30 pm . . . so I better retain all of these calories" or "It's 10 am and this is breakfast so burn, baby burn" SERIOUSLY.
The reason this ever got to being was because of 2 things
1. We tend to be less active after 7 because that's when we're winding down for the night
2. The snacks we tend to select at that time tend to be higher in calories and food of little nutritional value. So we are likely to go over our daily limits with these snacks.
Jeez.5 -
Multiple variations on the theme of friends who have not lost weight (but want to and would be healthier if they did) telling me I can't lose weight unless I do X . . . where X is something I have not done throughout losing 50+ pounds down to a healthy weight.
The usual X is "go low carb". Funniest was the (overweight) friend who got quite indignant when I said low carb wasn't required. She said she had "read all the books over the winter and they all said you have to go low carb." She was completely unfazed by the visibly obvious fact that what I had done all winter (plus summer/fall) was lose around 1/3 of my body weight while still eating carbs!
Continues to amaze me that people feel that they can make comments about 'my' body. I usually am a kind person and am reluctant to say what's on my mind when it can hurt someone's feelings. However, when this kind of rudeness is coming to me, it annoys me so much that I am getting better at giving it back. As in, a response to the effect of 'how's that working for you?'

My coworker and I tend to grab lunch at least once a week. Given that we have 30 minutes, it's usually something fast. She always says things like "who goes to Panda Express and gets steamed veggies?" Or laughs into her double cheese burger while I get an egg white delite.
Girl, wait until you're pushing 32 (she just turned 21) and not chasing after toddlers all night after work. You'll choose the steamed veggies, too.10 -

Or she'll trim her calories in other ways, or become more active.5 -

Was also told once that once you have extra fat cells even if you lose the fat the cells are still there waiting to blow up again....?

Uffff believe me, mamy of those trainerd are not qualified to provide feedbacks regarding food. My trainer told me to eat carbs after and before my workout session and this week I gained 3 pounds because I followed his advice. I would honestly tell you to research on youtube and google before trying a diet and I used intermittent fasting 16:8 plus keto diet and I lost 40 pounds aaaaand avoid telling dumb people what you are doing especially at the gym because they will tell you dumb things. And this apply at the suplement stores because they know nothing about products too
I've been following Renaissance Periodization, even though I'm pretty much eating the same amount of calories and macros I was before though not losing any weight, RP has me eating the bulk of my carbs before and after training, surprised at how quickly the fat began to come off without me losing strength. Maybe I'm a "special snowflake", but I'm liking the results so far.3 -

How can you not believe in calories?! It’s a fact, a unit of measure! It’s like saying, “I don’t believe in miles.” She might as l say, “I don’t believe in pounds!” Then she wouldn’t have a weight problem and she wouldn’t need to “diet.”
Not believe in calories ... geesh! They exist! They’re real—it’s not like they’re Bigfoot!

my mom (always been thin) is a wonder of click bait listicle advice
things she's said recently, and put into practice:
start every day with hot water with lemon to jump start your metabolism
start every day with half an avocado (presumably after the lemon water?)
swimming is the only exercise that makes you more hungry so don't do it or you'll eat more and gain weight
sugar is the devil
sodium is the devil
and she sends me pretty much EVERY facebook article about the 5 foods you never should eat

There's so many foods I've been warned off of that I just eat ice and iceberg lettuce now.8 -

Don’t you remember the earlier poster who said cold things made you fat (drinks need to be consumed warm). I’m pretty sure that also goes for things with cold words in the title like “iceberg.” Methinks you’re doomed!9 -

When I did weight training I was not losing pounds like I thought I should and I was I thought eating WAY too many calories (about 2200) The owner of the gym (my trainer's boss) made a deal with me. I could lower my calories for a month to what I wanted. He said up front I would lose at least 5 pounds that month but to mark his words, I'd be bigger physically though. Guess who knew better. Yup, I lost a bunch of weight that month after going down to 1500 calories. My workouts suffered, I had little energy, and I got fatter, mostly around my waist. SCREW THE SCALE was the lesson to be learned. I was putting on muscle which takes up less room than the fat so I was getting smaller, but it weighs MORE than fat so the scale was not budging and I needed those extra calories to keep getting my muscles. I of course got injured and got fat again, but I still kept that lesson. I use the scale as an immediate way to measure but I want to be a specific dress size again, no matter what the scale says. And for the record before and after a weight training session I did have carbs (before I put dry oatmeal and some peanut butter in the blender with my protein shake, after I ate dinner of usually chicken, brown rice, and broccoli). For cardio I didn't do anything special before or after.7 -
Great thread
I'm only 90 days in and lost only 36lbs so not had any negative comments.
Plus I work at home so no one to see what I eat.
Great stories guys gave me a giggle..
Oh yeah, I'm not one for drinking gallons of water but I have been told I'll never lose weight if I don't drink plenty.
Currently dropping 2.8lbs per week on average for 13 weeks and not drinking much water4 -
I'm brining back this thread because my Boss just lectured me for half an hour about how we only need 20 grams of protein a day and we can get that all from broccoli. Silly me tried to say there is such this as a protein deficiency to which she replied "no there's not, people who say that are just low on folic acid".
ETA: She got all this from watching "what the health". Is the work day over yet?7 -
