@RubyRed427, keep us posted. I, too, hope you are feeling much better very soon.2

Bad news: I tested positive. I am utterly shocked. I did feel like hell for 24 hours and it was a sudden onset of fever and symptoms. Today I do have a headache but feel ok. I am so worried to have tested positive especially since I saw students on Tuesday before I had any symptoms.9

@RubyRed427 Oh no I am so sorry to here that, I am also so worried of getting it, but I think it is a matter of time. Please take care of your self and keep us posted.3

I must say I thought the same thing when I found out. It must be a matter of time for some of us (me). At least, I didn't get if for 6 months. I am now cozy in bed. And I'll work from home- and hopefully read and watch movies, etc.
The big concern is my daughter who lives here and others I have been in contact with this week before symptoms.
I dont have major symptoms just dull headache, body aches, and a cough right now. It could be a lot worse.
Thanks for your message.
Hey at least I'll be sober for the net 14 days ; I have no alcohol here. Silver lining...5 -

You take good care of yourself. Prayers for a speedy recovery. ♥3 -
@aroze0928 Thank you!!1

@RubyRed427 Glad you are getting better & that your symptoms are mild....hope you mend soon. I'm thinking whoever you had contact with will need to be tested? That is the protocol in Canada.
Hoping everyone has a splendid AF weekend3 -
Ruby Red hugs to you and prayers going up for a fast recovery.
I just finished the 30 day alcohol experiment. Today is day 30. At the beginning I thought, "oh I will be finished a few days before my birthday and I can drink". Well, the information that was reinforced in the lessons made me lose all desire. Why would I want to drink poison even in moderation? I'm sick of thinking about alcohol and it is far too much work to try to figure out, "can I have 1? or 2? Should I just drink every 3 days? Saturdays and Sundays?" etc. BLEH! It takes up far too much head space and I am too lazy to do that kind of work. My husband drank 3 beers while we watched a show last night and he talked the entire time and was so annoying it further reinforced my desire not to act like that and the only way to guarantee I won't is to be sober. It really is as simple as that. I lost a couple lbs, nothing significant, but the change in my face is drastic. No redness or puffiness. My eyes are brighter. We had a socially distant bbq on the deck with neighbors and one woman was insisting I lost so much weight. I honestly just think I looked better overall, it wasn't weight loss.
I wanted to stop drinking at 40. I am turning 57 next week.
This has taken years. 17 years. To those struggling with this, my message is, NEVER, EVER GIVE UP.10 -
@JenT304 Congrats Jen!! I am so happy for you!2

Yes, that is true. I made lots of phone calls yesterday telling people I've been around that I Have Covid. It's the right thing to do.4 -
@RubyRed427, sending all possible positive energy your way.
@JenT304, Amen! I’m 64 and have flirted with sobriety for many years. Although I will never be over-confident, something finally clicked for me when I took the Sober School course. Day 70 tomorrow. I just returned from 5 days caring for my granddaughters. Being AF made all the difference. My face shows the difference quickly, too (in both directions). I really notice it on Zoom calls. Good work!!5 -
Congrats@ JenT304 you made me laugh about your husband talking through the show. Mine does that and repeats what they are saying like I didnt hear it the first time. Unless its "his show" then Im only allowed to talk during commercials lol. Maybe thatll change when he quits.
@RubyRed427 I hope you are on the mend ♥
Happy AF Monday2 -
YAY @JenT304 Fantastic. It seems like that month flew by...I remember you telling us you were starting it. Seems like yesterday!!
@donimfp Day 70 woohoo!!
I found it really important to count the days for the first year in particular. I know there is some debate over counting, but it is whatever works for the individual...for me it was important to track my progress and I LOVE when others share their count. I find it very encouraging5 -
Re: counting the days . . . If I don't count, how am I going to treat myself to all those rewards? I'll admit after awhile I stopped the every-five-day rewards, but I'm looking forward to Day 100 and especially 6 months.4
-
Re counting days:
I find counting very encouraging. I also agree that seeing the counts of others is motivating. I am at 198 days and it feels great. I will not be posting a graphic for 200 since I just hit 6 months.
Let’s celebrate these achievements!!!5 -
I haven't posted for quite some time but I thought I'd come on to say that in just 14 days I will have been alcohol free for two years. Also, the 15lbs I lost when I quit drinking has stayed off because I still log all my food and have been doing that for over 7 years now (2,647 days today). Staying accountable, working out every day and logging my food has worked for me. Still, the most important thing to me is being alcohol free!9

Ruby sending you my wishes for a quick and easy ride through this. Yep, you never know who is out here lurking keeping an eye on the sober squad. Hugs to all6 -

Thanks Miss May! The silver lining of Corona is no access or desire for alcohol. I have no sense of taste or smell. Thanks for your well wishes5 -

Hi friends, Covid Julie here in bed.... I am blessed it is not getting worse, but the lung issues are still annoying. Not able to take in a big breath, lots of coughing... I was thinking it is blessing I don't smoke. That's once vice I never did get.
What I have experienced during this illness is such incredible kindness.... from friends and family. All reaching out with texts, sending flowers, buying little gifts and leaving them on my porch. Mom is delivering food on the door step. I'm so touched.
I'm really boring. I have nothing new to say except hoping you all have a great day!9 -
Hi "Covid Julie" Thank you for updating us all. So glad that you are healing and are being cared for through all of your friend's and family's kindnesses....Boring is fantastic btw...It means you are resting & taking care of yourself...happy recoup4
-
Boring is the new awesome "CJ". My thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery. It took some time for my son to get his taste and smell back, but it eventually returned. So glad to hear you have a network of kindness around you.

201 days AF!
I missed 200 yesterday - oops. I am in the Florida panhandle where hurricane Sally hit, so my mind has been elsewhere. We came thru with only minimal damage. Neighbors one street over we’re not so lucky. More clean up today. At least if you stay busy you don’t think about drinking!!6 -
@Beka3695 I'm glad you have minimal damage. The pictures on TV are terrible. How awful for people. Covid Julie, I hope you are improving. It is scary not to be able to take a full breath. I AM a former smoker and that aspect really scares me. I'm happy your family and friends are being so thoughtful.4

Hi @MissMay!2

I was shocked Friday to receive an invitation to an “in person” Jeopardy audition based on the online test I took in the spring. It’s via Zoom of course. I realize the odds against progressing further are astronomical but I’m excited nonetheless. Two things about sobriety hit me immediately: 1. I honestly think I would have declined the invitation pre-July 6 because of anxiety and also self-consciousness about my appearance. I’ve lost 20 lbs and look much different off the booze. 2. The audition is scheduled for 5 pm. No doubt I would have consumed a few drinks to “prepare”. I may still stumble over obscure Ethiopian war generals questions but I will have all my faculties on board. Day 77 today and I’m grateful for all the benefits of sobriety.11

Hi everyone,
I stopped drinking on July 4, which is also when I re-started MFP. Working from home made having a cocktail in the afternoon way too convenient. I’ve always been a drinker, but I haven’t had any alcohol since then, mostly because I’m not socializing the way I used to pre-Covid. And I decided not to keep alcohol in the house. I don’t really miss it, but there are times when I think “If I still drank alcohol, I’d be having a drink right now.”
Not drinking has made eating healthier foods much easier because I’m not craving all the processed junk I used to have with a drink. I’ve lost 20 pounds since July 4 so I’m not inclined to start drinking again anytime soon!5 -
I just got my first shipment of NA cocktails from Curious Elixirs. They have 4 versions, each with adaptogens (plants with healing properties, especially stress and anxiety reduction.) I’m drinking a #2 right now. It is really weird. Has a kick from ancho chili and a very different taste from damiana. I tamed it with grapefruit juice and diet tonic and find that delicious! I can’t recommend because everyone’s taste is so different but if you are into interesting, sophisticated cocktails you might give them a try. Their slogan is “Shaken, not slurred.”6
