Margaret – prayers. Where again are you located?
Kim – taking temp is common here, too. I had mine taken before I saw the dentist. Now, interestingly, the first time I went to the soup kitchen they took it. Since then, they don’t. What kinds of questions are they asking that need to be kept confidential? The one time they took my temp at the soup kitchen they only asked me things like “how do you feel”, “have you been in contact with anyone who has c-19”, things like that.
Went thru some of the video tapes that FIL had. Threw some away, they were pirated copies of movies, things like Lawrence Welk (I don’t think we’re interested in that). If there was anything I in the least questioned, Vince needs to make the call.

Tonya, you and I share a birthdate if I read your post correctly. March 26. However, I just turned 77, and you are much younger. I hope you are finding success here, however, depending on your co-morbidities, such as diabetes, PCOS, arthritis, etc, you might consider Bariatric surgery. I lost the 130# I needed to, and am now successfully maintaining at around 135. I worry about people living with diabetes particularly, because so many are able to be off medications almost immediately after surgery, and totally avoid other complications like heart disease, blindness, and all the other things that can arise in the life of someone living with your amount of weight to lose. It is probably not my business, but I see many good outcomes in our support group - which like everything else if that sort is being held on Zoom right now.
I live and miss you all, but there has been a huge domestic drama with one of my daughters and her husband. I can do no more than skim most of the time right now.

I survived an exhausting and expensive trip to Costco but now we have tons of supplies. It seemed like everything I bought was heavy and wearing a mask makes breathing hard but I feel like the hunter who came home with the giant beast to feed the whole town. Everyone in Costco wore a mask and kept their distance.

Tracey- A Man was killed by cops starting a riot. Some say fraudulent check others a certain dollar amount bill. He had money in the bank y on him y relatives who could have paid the jail if it was true..but he never got a chance to prove his innocence. My father got a fraudulent bill from the bank once luckily he got a good cop they drove separately to the bank talked to the teller found more fraudulent bills in her till then by security footage found the person who was passing off fake bills around town . Easily same could have happened to my father. I had a customer once the fancy machines at work said the check was fraudulent it was a computer error. So yeah folks mad about it started rioting tired of this behavior since 3 cops sat on this man for over 10 minutes until his nose bled y his last breath left they still sat on him even after he died. Rioting getting worse because the cops who killed him in cold blood one rocking back y forth on his neck using a car for leverage to put more pressure with an odd pleasure look on his face ,1 on his lungs,1 on his stomach area ,y 1 watching not stopping them all with past history of this are brought to justice. So to stop the riots now that Blk Lives Matter showed up to others in the country their calling in the National Gaurd to stop them. In the meantime the cops are not in jail if they were like any individual awaiting trial I believe it would stop. In the meantime shops owned by good people are being vandalized- oh yeah y the police station y cars too.

Barbie- Glad to hear of your big haul we’re getting low again I fear another trip to the store soon since growing boys love bread to tortillas y definitely need their milk 🥛.

Tired of these storms I need JR to be able to go outside run off his destructive boy energy on something other than my house lol 😂.
Definitely better when he’s grabbing tree limbs tugging to tossing sticks around outside screaming running like a nut case lol.2 -

Karen VA –. I do not think you strange at all, in fact I admire you! You got moxie! But I am a displaced Oregonian, dreaming of her nudist life in California, but residing in Washington. Kinda a mouthful but that's the way the cookie crumbles.💖

Tracy a white officer killed a black man during an arrest by leaning his knee into his neck enough to kill him It was caught on video. It is all over the news here in the U.S. It has set off riots, fire, and looting. A shopping center a mile from us was looted this afternoon. Not only are businesses getting looted they are getting burned down. We have been told to stay home. Our neighbor has the same name as one of the other officers involved. There were three officers that stood by and did nothing to stop this officer. He had to change his social media name because of all the hate.2

Lisa: Your idea that indifference is the opposite of both love and hate is thought provoking. I can’t say much about that, but I think indifference can become effective personal armor when needed to protect ourselves from love & hate life-challenges. :flowerforyou:
Karen: I think Barbie’s comment is just right. We are lucky to live in a time and culture where you can be who you are and love who you love.
Amber: Speaking as a retired American history teacher, in my opinion, the founding fathers were wise. They gave some powers to the national government and reserved other powers to each of the states and the people. They fought a war against the British to accomplish those valuable goals. We now have 50 states with their own governments and laws they choose. Cost of living in those 50 states varies widely.
Margaret: I am so sorry that the police in your area acted so harshly toward your son. I remember when you were going through that travesty and my heart still aches for your family.
Kate UK: I am so sorry for the loss of your BIL. I hope you are able to arrange an appropriate service. Perhaps a graveside service would allow the family to be together and maintain safe social distances. :flowerforyou:
Tracy in Edmonton: I’m not sure I know what “clean eating” means, unless it is the opposite of eating junk food.
Sharon near Seattle: It is so great to see your post. I’m sorry that your daughter’s domestic drama is difficult for others, including you. :flowerforyou:
Barbie: Your black Iris is gorgeous!!! :flowerforyou:
Our old barbecue worked for us for many years and is now in recycle land. Our new one is excellent. We had our first hamburgers cooked on it this evening. We ate on our deck and watched the boaters on the river. Most were very courteous regarding speed and noise. One or two got blasts from airhorns that prompted them to slow down and keep within the speed limit. I know the names of the airhorn users and applaud them for reminding people to go slow.

Margaret - that has made our news as well. I wasn’t connecting you to being in the area. I don’t and probably never will understand how that can happen over and over it seems.
Stay safe.2 -
Barbie, your newest member of your iris family is drop dead gorgeous! I am having extreme iris envy, I have some plants, but my yard doesn't seem to get enough sun to make them happy and they have not bloomed since we moved here.
Kate UK, I'm so sorry to hear of your BIL's passing.
Katla, your first bbq with your new grill sounds like a lovely way to spend an evening!
Tracy, your deck is lovely! Mosquitos......grrrrr. I grew up in skeeter country, not sad to have left! We do get a few here, but nothing like where I grew up!
Karen, I have to agree with others, it's so very fortunate that we live in a time where people are allowed to be what they want to be and to love who they want to love. I know that's not the case (still!) everywhere, but I like to think that we, as a society, are coming around.
Margaret, as I have no words, I'm sending virtual {{{hugs}}} your way.....
Heather, lovely photos of the grands!
I think clean eating means eating without the junk food, nothing processed, nothing that can't be put back in its original form. Not my style at all! lol (obviously or I wouldn't need to be losing weight! lol) I think we all need treats, maybe not all the time, but definitely they need to be there!
Day 3 for me is a done deal. I am under calories, pretty much only because I burned 760 cal getting to work and back, but that's okay. The day was tracked and that's the important part. I find I will eat something that doesn't track easily, so I'll just not bother, and that makes it just too easy to stop tracking, but I've been more diligent the last few days, even tho there have been some challenging items I have just tried to pick something similar and gone with it.
That's it for me, hugs for those who need them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to any newbies that I may have missed (haven't seen any new "faces" for a few days, doesn't mean there aren't any tho!!)

Kim - My question about 'clean' eating was said in an ironic, comedic way. The phrasing was not English English. That was me trying to be funny. Oh well.
However, if I had to say what it meant I would guess it meant no additives, no processed food that requires chemicals added to it. No hydrogenated fats. Nothing out of a box or jar with unpronouncable names. The opposite of Amber's video with the SAD diet.
I would add to that most processed meats with nitrates, any meat with hormones, antibiotics , chlorine etc.
I do know how lucky I am to have very easy access to healthy food. I only have to walk around the corner to be able to buy local, organic veggies and eggs, meat at the family butcher from individually named local farms, artisan bread with no additives. I know a lot of people live in food deserts and do not have the money, the time, the energy, or the skills to eat healthily. I'm not working at two jobs and having to feed a family of five.
Tonight I'm going to cook the paneer I made. It's a curry with spinach and red pepper.
I hope things calm down b]i]Margaret[/i[/b. Worrying times.
Now things are opening up a little I'm finding some of my anxieties returning. I was awake at 4.30 this morning. I liked being locked up. I've certainly got a lot of writing done. I've lost weight. I've eaten better. I've been exercising more. Now I've got to start thinking about how to meet family and friends, when and where etc etc etc. Help! Lock me up! Please!

Hugs to Rori and Beth and Kim and Kate and Margaret and everybody else that needs them.
Beth, POIDH on the haircut!
Clean eating: what Heather said. Little or no processed food. Make your own salad dressing instead of buying bottled. Grains as whole as you can get them. Plain oats (rolled or steel cut) instead of instant Oatmeal. Organic if available and in the budget. Lots of veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds. A little meat but preferably grass fed, locally grown, etc. Wild caught fish. No farmed raised. No artificial sweeteners. Very little dairy. What you do eat is full fat and organic if possible. This is the way of eating I aspire to, but confess I am not always successful. My body does appreciate it when I do, however.
Machka, $300,000 for a PHD? Holy Moly! I don't even think I have $30,000 in mine. I didn't keep up with the bottom line, but I know it was cheap enough to cash flow over a 4 year period from my teaching salary so it wasn't expensive. I did go to a state school (Georgia Southern University) which was way cheaper even than the University of Georgia. It had the program I wanted and that met my needs, though, so I was pleased, and it turned out that it is one of the top 3 programs in the US in my degree (curriculum studies). Will a $300,000 degree pay for itself? On a totally unrelated subject, my DH is also having hernia surgery in June. He has one on both sides, so double surgery. His is in two weeks. I hope he can last that long. Some days it really bothers him. I bought him some supportive underwear but he says it makes it worse so won't wear it.
My 87 year old neighbor from across the street just passed away. I knew something was up because there were ambulances there on two occasions on the same day about 6 weeks ago and we had not seen her caregiver out walking the dog since that time. It turns out she had fallen and broken her shoulder. They sent her to a rehab facility where she contracted COVID-19. The saddest part was that her family could not visit the entire time she was in there. I feel so sorry for the nursing home residents right now. My cousins have not seen their mother (my father's sister) in 3 months. Her birthday was this week. The only good thing about where my aunt is residing is that my cousin's daughter works there so she does get to see her Nanny every day and can keep an eye on her to be sure she is getting good care.5 -
Thanks for condolences and hugs. BIL will be cremated, his wife, kids and grandkids will probably be as many as crematorium will allow inside so we can go in our own car and stand outside ( practicing social distancing) Don’t think any of us have facilities for an outside wake.
MARGARET hope things get a little better there
HEATHER I am the opposite to you I am stressed being in lockdown, I’m exercising less, eating more putting on weight. Can’t wait to get out and socialise. Isn’t it great that we aren’t all the same ❤️❤️
Stay safe
Kate UK ❤️5 -
Kate UK - I know! I feel a bit guilty I have been enjoying it so much. Getting on with my memoir has been a big part of that. I am looking forward to eventually being able to go out to lunch though. My anxiety is around seeing the grandchildren, my son's birthday next week, the seafront/beach being extra busy with our wonderful weather etc. I'm not good at uncertainty.
I am very aware of the struggles many people have had, for all kinds of reasons.
Hope the funeral brings some peace to all.

Regarding the cost of a PhD ...When I calculated that, I may have included my pay for the three years I'd have to take off.
https://www.findaphd.com/study-abroad/aus-nz/phd-study-in-australia.aspx
$42,000 per year * 3 years = $126,000 + my pay = just over $300,000.
And a PhD could possibly double my pay so conceivably I could make it back in about 5 years, if all went well. But that's not a given.
However, it is possible that some degrees could be funded by grants so that could make a positive difference.
I hope your DH's surgery goes well!!
My husband's is just one. When he came home from the hospital nearly 2 years ago, I started noticing he didn't like when I touched his stomach, and then one day a little while later, I saw why! We delayed getting it looked at first because he didn't want to go back to the hospital. Then we had to delay a while when COVID-19 came along. I hope it goes well.

I'm with Heather, I've loved the shutdown and wish this is how life could be until at least September.
Despite the fact that it has been incredibly busy, it's been so relaxing and freeing!!

Good Morning from a lovely sunny day here in York, trying to catch up, but I've been sat here for over an hour and really need to move before I stiffen up completely
Amber I was surprised by the different sizes of the McDonalds portions and the variety too.
Better move and get some chores done, the washing won't hang itself outside and the lawn needs mowing !!
Happy Friday.
Love Viv UK2 -
One of our great joys is our garden. We have deliberately kept it as a bird and wildlife sanctuary with plenty of cover and spend a lot of time admiring the birds etc through the windows.
Today the lawn was full of chicks. Babies hopping everywhere. We have a baby robin, starlings, goldfinches, sparrows, a greedy baby blackbird closely guarded by its dad.
Happiness!
Every morning at about 7.30 the sound of chickens starts up, as the house a few doors down has a chicken coop and that's when they feed them. Luckily no cockerel!
Weather still glorious.

3.8 km run this evening as the sky turned pink ...
My husband walked while I ran ahead, then ran back to him, and ran ahead again, and back all the way around.
For some reason my calves have been bothering me a lot during and after runs so I'm trying compression stockings this evening and I've got my feet up. Hopefully that helps.

Good Morning All-I'm new and am super happy to have found this thread! I'm coming from WW but was active on MFP years ago and loved the community.
I live in VA, about an hour outside of DC, in the Shenandoah Valley. It has been getting hot and humid here over the last week. Favorite walking/hiking spot is still closed and pools are closed so I'm improvising with indoor workouts and walks in the neighborhood. Looking forward to gaining control over my calories and fitness in a healthy way.
I hope to get to know you all! Hope you have a wonderful day!8 -
"Get to do"s and "chose well"sChose well: Post Office, Bank, Mini Pet Mart, Farmers’ market, Grocery outlet, meeting with board pres, W&M report, church council meeting, stroll with dogs
Bonus: transplanted oregano, sweet marjoram
Get to do: Post Office, Freddie’s, line dance in park, invest 20 mins Bedrooms,, carry over 30 mins decluttering and cleaning Office, 20 mins Guest Bth & Dining Rm, 10 mins cleaning Kitchen/laundry, Living Rm, Master Bth, mat work, BB&B, practice new dances (Real Deal, Get it Right, Quarter after one, Half Past Tipsy, Senorita, Dance Monkey; transplant parsley, pineapple, rose geranium, Stinky, cherry tomato; make garlic almonds for Barb and Dan; prep raised bed for carrots, parsley root, parsnips, radishes; finish weeding drive, continue weeding flower bed, mulch flowerbed; call stove repair guy to adjust kitchen flame and assess Aunt Elsie’s Stove to determine if finish cleaning and start de-rusting feasible; Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine, follow up for Joe’s labs, call for his Dr. appointment.
Reward: inventory seeds, plan garden, order replenishments, next week final?
Our bishop recommends NO SINGING to minimize aerosol virus dispersion. Strong resistance from many on council, so we’ll probably hold our paper bulletins in front of our mouths and sing away.
Community College offering livestreaming BB&B class starting June 21, but not with Coach Ken. Disappointed, but will probably sign up anyway. Meanwhile T’ai Chi restarts Wednesday with masks required and six feet social distance. Hard to b r e a t h e through cloth mask, considering a shield instead. Saw some cute hats with shields for kids. Rita this might be your cottage industry, baby caps with plastic shields, yours would be way cuter than these:
https://smile.amazon.com/Hisharry-Toddler-Bucket-Protection-Animal/dp/B07QK9M9QM/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=kids+hat+with+shield&qid=1590742908&s=apparel&sr=1-8
For me, torn between this navy cotton one and the linen/cotton one that might be cooler.
Any thoughts on the shield vs cloth mask?
Kylia came to my thoughts today. Anyone heard from her?
Machka enjoy your so well deserved month’s break from uni. SMH at the PhD $$$$$$. If I won the lottery, I’d find another way to spend the money Is triple zero the equivalent of our 999 emergency dispatcher? IMHO that would be first on the list. Does the device allow dispatcher to converse with patient? Gorgeous pics as always!
Tonya steak and mushrooms, yum!
Lisa “,,,[organization] shifts from striving to fulfill its mission to striving to perpetuate itself as an organization. This requires rules, policies and regulations that are meant to protect the organization at all costs. And those costs are, in the end, human costs.” Truth. Still SMH they’re keeping you hanging on. Good for you for keeping the daily savings contribution in the forefront.
Barbie 16 is average for the “improver” class, the beginner classes were much larger. In the park we have around 9 including the teacher.
Katla our bulk foods section was still open last time I stopped by, and yes, I far prefer to shop for myself, wouldn’t trust a store employee to select produce, poultry or check expiry dates (absolutely crucial at Freddie’s ;> ). The truth of the matter is that your husband can no longer help so you are entitled to miss the trade off and both whine and brag about your accomplishment.
Amber shocking video, not just portion size but the adulterants we in the US tolerate. Unconscionable!
Rita Congrats on your mfp lifetime membership!
Rebecca we just polished off our pack of Franz molasses cookies, we stretched it out over weeks. Just discovered Franz Great Sprouted organic seed bread. 90 cals/slice, 3 g fiber, 3 g protein and absolutely delicious. Will freeze most like Barbie does so I have no excuse to overindulge. the flower but most of all the cutie whose ear it’s behind. Pie and Lattes, yes!
Michele one summer in high school I used to do a final vinegar rinse to get all the shampoo out of my hair, After I stopped and the hair kept growing, I noticed that the summer hair was quite red, while the autumn and winter growth was back to plain ol’ brown.
Tracey your story of your father’s little piles of briquettes reminded me of a story, too long to tell now, but the punch line is me saying quite calmly: “Now Mama, don’t get upset, but the garage is on fire.”
Evelyn WELL done!
Heather please continue not resisting posting pics of your grands. They always make me smile!
Barbie “…best for the relationship.” Brava. Another great Barbie mantra. Will add it to my collection “Be agreeable. Don’t take it personally.” Etc etc etc
Kate (((hugs)))
Pip sounds more like work than vacation, but all in a good cause.
Karen in VA “…just not governed by convention” could that be another way of saying “unmanageable” ?
Beth impressed by the safety measures at your car repair place, and relieved your AC got fixed sooner than expected.
Margaret, prayers for your son, your community and you. Strong continuous prayers for your husband’s safety and opening-of-the-ears. Would he listen to some respected male friend, neighbor or police officer? What you said about the NextDoor app is true here as well.
Kim, I’d make a prototype box to display in front of me (silently) during the zoom meeting. Sometimes a picture is worth…
Sharon ((hugs))
Welcome @PeloMichelle, happy you’re here!
Haven’t done any cleaning or decluttering since the 20th and probably won’t today either. Saturday’s rainy moon-in-Virgo day will be good for cleaning. But now it’s time to snoozzzzze.
