karen VA-Olivia Oh my! Three going on 13? She looks like a feisty one!
Rebecca- Athena! Where did the baby go? She looks so much older with her hair in pigtails!
Heather- I am so glad you and Johnny have each other to help with little health issues that pop up; and I am glad to see Johnny up and moving again! BTW, I have been enjoying the pics of Max, Edie, and Bea as well! They grow so fast!
Faye- WAs it you that posted the shawl with pockets? I love that! I need to learn to knit or crochet so I can make myself one.
Machka- Ugh! The stresses of returning to work, when you are still in recovery mode! So glad you have a safe place to return to and a warm being in which to find comfort.
My week back to work has been going well. Had one little mishap yesterday; one of the three year olds accidentally flushed his underwear down the toilet! Luckily, it went all of the way through the pipes and my toilet didn't clog. I guess size 2T undies are flushable?!
It has been incredibly warm here (90s) and a half hour of my morning is always filled with getting my yard ready for the kids. Filling the pools, getting the toys out, uncovering the sandbox, getting swimsuits and towels ready to be changed into...
So...I better scoot and get those things done. Love and hugs to all who need them! WElcome new girls! ttfn KJ (Kelly)

Oh, I began intermittent fasting on my vacation. I am doing an 18:6, seven days a week. I am glad I was able to start it on my vacation because it gave me a week to get used to the "hungries" and not be "hangry" with the kids. I might revise it to 17:7; because now that I am busy in the mornings, I am getting hungry earlier.3

Hi KJ.
I posted with the same comment - am almost motivated to learn how to knit.....although I would prefer to pay someone. I do not have enough time right now to learn a new craft. I would probably scallop the edges versus the tassels......but the wrap would be perfect for Florida's winter.
Oh, no undies down the toilet. Thank goodness they went all the way through. Those plumber calls can be costly!1 -
Heather - So glad to see DH is back to normal. His smile says it all.1

Happy Wednesday Ladies!
First, it's always neat to see photos of our little girls growing up - Olivia and Athena. Weren't they just babies a couple months ago?
Heather - love seeing your DH's smile, good job! Glad he was able to be out with you again. I know I'm late in commenting - my DH normally sits to pee unless he's outdoors then..... glad we don't have close neighbors and lots of trees and shrubs surrounding the back yard. I'm jealous
Barbara - when is Joe's eye surgery and is he having one or both eyes taken care of at the same time? If you don't board your pupsters, what's the alternative?
Rita - good luck on your 14:10. Once I mastered that I was able to gradually increase fasting times. This past week it's been pretty easy to do a 17:7 although last night I extended my feeding window. I tell myself anything over 12 hours is good then have fun with it, often aim for 16:8 then push through another hour with another cup of coffee or big glass of water and getting busy doing something. The weather service I subscribe to says Roswell will be 103 today or thereabouts.... we will be back in the low 90's for a couple days but I'm not complaining, the tomatoes are very happy.
Kelly - good luck on your IF. You'll have no problem keeping busy! Glad no toilet problems, whew!
RE: Intermittent Fasting (IF) - I'm a big fan of Delay, Don't Deny by Gin Stephens who stands by "clean fasting" - only plain coffee, tea (black or green) and water (plain or sparkling - Topo Chico is a favorite) during the fasting time. Nothing flavored or with any kind of additives because of the insulin release which stops fat burning and can actually stimulate more hunger. I've become a big fan of black coffee.
RE: Sewing machines - when I pulled out my old Brother a month or so to make masks, it was complaining. It's over 50 years old and I've never had it cleaned, so I thought one of these days I'll take it into town and drop it off. My walking partner told me yesterday the fellow who did that has retired and there's no one close by anymore. Sounds like a job I can do myself, actually, and I do have sewing machine oil here. It's cast iron, weighs a ton and has a zig-zag stitch - it's been a trooper. I traded a typewriter for it at a pawn shop in Arlington, Virginia when DH was stationed out there in the mid-70's.
Running into town this morning to get caught up on some grocery shopping. Picking up a couple prescriptions for DH. I've been using GoodRX which saves a bundle and don't bother with the government prescription coverage. I noticed the prices on DH's drugs this time are about half what they were several months ago. Every little bit helps and I'm grateful he's not on anything real pricey right now.
Better get going and do my QiGong. It's really helping my balance. You wouldn't think standing and breathing would have so many benefits.
OK ladies, make it a good day. Keep cool!

Good Morning!
I love the chats! Work, dinner with friends, then chilled last night. I brought work home, but..........
Hot tub this morning. SIL not going to work (imagine that). suggestions for changing my attitude??? She goes in at the buttcrack of morning, then leaves early. She schedules things in the middle of the day. She doesn't follow through with policies and leaves so fast I don't get to ask questions about the notes she leaves if I happen to be gone for an hour for appointment that I can't make before or after work. She doesn't help anyone out. I could take less home if she could watch the counter for an hour or so, but that doesn't happen either. SHE is an OWNER! She stays home to cut grass. Well, we could cut our own too if we could take off during a work day to do it. The customers really only want to deal with me. They believe I am the owner....... My oldest daughter says she has always been like that and isn't going to change so I need to change my attitude...... Suggestions would be nice. It is definitely a major stresser for me!
I better get dressed for work since I need to leave in a few minutes. Have a blessed day! Make the best decision you can at the moment with the information given at the time and move on.

Heather Great news on Johnny! This indicates to me that the crystal was in the posterior canal which is most common and what the original Epley maneuver was designed. I was concerned his fall sent crystals into the anterior canal which is common with falls, whiplash, etc. To dislodge these crystals the modified Epley is required. There are videos of how to do it on YouTube so no worries if J should ever require such. If J ever has very mild symptoms and not bad enough to require the maneuver, then he might try a cold pack on the affected side (right) and a hot pack on the other side (left). The packs should cover the ear and below and a bit forward. Holding the packs in place, move head from one side to center and then to other side back to center then bowing forward and back to straight and then tilting head back and then to back to straight. Do this several times and then just sit still with packs for a few minutes. I can do this myself and haven't had to have the maneuver performed in 15 years.
Barbara Yes, I add hot water and by cup 4 it is diluted and weak but I like drinking hot drinks in the morning as it helps get my system going. I get a lot of flak from friends about my coffee, especially those that prize themselves as Pacific Northwest coffee experts. One teaspoon of instant Folgers is all I need and a pot of hot water and good rich powdered chocolate for the final cup. If I am experiencing dizziness then I forgo the coffee and drink camomile tea that I got from an old hippie outfit somewhere west of your neck of the woods or they were 30 years ago. I keep it sealed tight and it is still good.
Catching up on all the other posts after guitar practice. One of my dental implants is hurting this morning and I am fighting the urge to be cranky.

Greetings from sunny South Florida.
Well, it never fails. I take a Friday off to get some extra projects completed around the house and we have a storm brewing out in the Atlantic. It is rather disorganized so we are all hoping it stays a tropical depression.
I have started hurricane preparations. The ice maker is on "quick ice" and I am bagging drinking ice. Courtyard furniture will be washed down this evening just in case I have to bring it all in. Lucky for me all of my spring planters are on their way out so I will also clean up those planters in preparation of packing and tying everything down.
So very glad I stocked up all hurricane supplies early in the season and also organized the hurricane supply boxes. No worries there. I just need to stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables and a little bit of stress food (I typically make brownies for hurricanes). Depending upon how the storm develops over today and tomorrow will determine if I buy ice for the coolers and start cooking up some foods and making cooler-type salads for the storm and afterwards, if we lose power. I do have a small gas grill and camp stove so if power does go out for a period of time I can still cook and make coffee.
I will say I am very glad my mother raised a very independent woman and told me over and over how I could do anything I wanted/desired. If I was dependent I would be wringing my hands over these storms and the preparation required.
It's off to the races for me - I see work emails are starting to come in.
Hugs to all and prayers for those in need.

Lanette I think I did mention how I love that blue plant but I wanted to mention it again. Any other suggestions for blue plants that would grow in Virginia would be welcome from anyone. Foliage or flowers. There are plants that are "blue-ish" but not many that are actually blue.
YouTube has so many tutorials you could become an expert in refurbishing sewing machines. Go for it!
…
The garden is finally starting to produce! Gazpacho for breakfast. Yum.

Hi everyone. Three weeks ago I had horrible bloodwork and have to have a ct scan on my liver. I was terrified after the blood results and immediately started on a 1200 calorie diet and walking every day. My goal is to lose 30 lbs. So far I have lost 3, but usually I plateau and give up. I am not big on exercise and tend to fizzle out after a while. If only my sewing machine pedal would count for exercise, I would have no worries! Any advice or support to help keep me on track is welcome and most appreciated!

Melissa- welcome. Do you have a fatty liver? I would encourage you to check out Intermittent Fasting - google Youtube presentations by Dr. Jason Fung, also other researchers - Mark Mattson, Valter Longo. Lots of info out there on how Fasting helps with insulin resistance and fatty livers.
Wishing you good luck with whatever path you choose to regain your health, there are many ladies in this group who have plans that work great for them, including CI/CO, Keto, exercise.

Good night all. I've been doing something really unusual for me since the surgery ... going to bed early ... before midnight! !!
That will likely end next week but I've needed and enjoyed the extra sleep.

Hi Karen,
Yes, it's Isaias. The storm is still disorganized and now the "Cone of Concern" is shifting west. This one is so unknown it's better to be as prepared as possible without going crazy. I have Friday off so any last-minute things can be taken care of then - if it develops. TG I have very good shutters that take a total of 5 minutes to close and secure.

Karen Thanks so much for your appreciation and the welcome to the group. That means a lot more to me than you can imagine. I found this site and then this group by accident. So far the best ever and everyone's conduct is heartwarming.
Kelly No, not me on the knitting! I knitted a bustier crop top (bottom met jeans band) a few years ago (my first attempt at knitting) and it came out too small but I was wearing it anyway when my best friend came over with her granddaughters (teenagers) (my fake grandnieces) and they promptly without hesitation said, "NO NO auntie take that off right now before you embarrass yourself." It fit one of them perfectly and looked great. The other wanted me to knit her one and I declined as my interest in knitting was vanishing quick and in a hurry.
SuzieQ You sound a lot like me. I was raised on a mountain ranch and as an only child became fiercely independent. I did all the jobs from laundry, house cleaning, running swathers, backhoes, branding and castrating cattle, delivering calves, you name it. The words, "That is a boy's job never left my lips." In my early 20's I moved to the remote mountains and built myself a log and frame cabin and lived off the grid for a few years. One winter the snow was so deep I didn't see another human for 3 months. I always had 6 months supply of food and necessities and a year's supply of firewood I cut, split, and stacked myself. I worked summers on construction jobs mainly as an equipment operator and explosives specialist. I always had a backpack with survival necessities and ready to evacuate. I was evacuated 4 times in 12 years because of forest fires. Many laugh at me for my preparedness, but I gave away a lot of TP and still have enough left for me during the recent madness. I still lay my clothes out by my bed and I can dress in seconds. I am not running out in the street dressed in only thin night shorts. I have been independent, prepared, and stubborn with my ways all my life and see no reason to change now. I am alarmed that knowing trouble is coming this fall, that very few are preparing. There is a difference in preparing and hoarding.
Lanette That old Brother sounds awesome. I worked with a bootmaker for a couple of months making my own boots and those old heavy machines are amazing. I also worked for an outfit sewing pack packs, tents, and such for a short time. Those old industrial machines won't ever wear out. I love sewing except for repetitious projects or production work.
Very sorry if I missed replying to anyone. My vision is still haywire. My dental implant is less achy so my disposition is changing for the better. 112 degrees F predicted for here today. Oh no, I have forgot my walk. I best shake a leg.... later

Katla - Sorry about Schooner's diagnosis, enjoy him as long as you can
Karen - I saw a pattern this weekend that I want to put on a shirt for my Granddaughter. When I saw Olivia's little pose I thought she could use the shirt too. It is a little saying that says, "I'm not always sassy, sometimes I sleep."
Michele - When I try to delete parts of the conversation out when on my phone, I end up losing too much. I use my phone only at home as my tablet died.
Barbara - I just love your use of "loving discussions".
Heather - I hope you get a nice long visit in soon. Our numbers are relatively low right now and we had a lot of restrictions lifted. I don't think this will last though especially when school opens up in September.
Allie - The company that delivers the bed can't put it together? Surely if they wore masks and sanitized it would be ok.
Kylia - Your daughter is right, she probably won't change at this stage. I had a boss once that kept disappearing and I would have to handle everything. After I got over being angry at him and feeling put upon I just scheduled my day as if he wasn't going to be there doing his portion so I wasn't feeling overwhelmed when he didn't show. I ended up just being surprised when he did show up to work and took that as an easy day because they were rare.
Suzi - I hope the storm just moves out to sea and leaves all land clear this time. I handle a lot by myself too, I can credit my Mom for it, but for the opposite reason. She wouldn't do anything without my Dad and I swore I would be more independent. I just love that shawl too, I think I need to find someone to make one for me.
Ok, caught up again. Will be back this evening after work.

My descent into the rabbit hole continues. At least it’s a good one since it’s cleaning! This morning I put a second coat of oil on the leather recliners. I have cleaned 2 bathrooms. I cleaned up the edges of the sink in the laundry room (it’s not under mounted so it gets dirty on the seam). Cleaned the kitchen counters and vacuum the house. I’m neat most of the time. The cleaning urge only happens occasionally so I’m taking advantage of it while it’s here.

Going to be too hot this afternoon so have to do wash this morning and maybe sew or go for a walk or both. My newest sewing project is a kit I got to sew tea towels and pot holders for fall. I’m also knitting a poncho which I can’t finish until I get more yarn and another winter headband. Then will try the picket shawl. I want to make hats for winter too. Sewing, I got some fall and Halloween material to make masks. Those I can make in an hour so gonna squeeze those in too. Keeping busy helping my moods.
IF, I have increased to 16/ 8 with no issues. Gonna keep it there for a while with logging Everything and getting a couple 15 minute walks or longer each day. Day 4 and going strong.
Cheat days, when I worked, I picked a weekend day. Any day is good. For those interested in breaking a plateau, try lowering your carbs and eating more good fats and proteins. I started with keto at 5% (20g) of carbs a day but now I aim for 10% or under 100 grams of carbs a day. Aiming for under 50 most days. Only gained 3 pounds over my lowest weight in a year but still in overweight range. Losing 10 more pounds puts me in normal range. 10-20 more will give me room for 3 pounds up or down.

Welcome,
@Maggit59 Mag in SD and @mbusse001 Melissa in WI,
and anyone else who's new.
Katla,
I'm so sorry about Schooner's diagnosis. I hope he has many painfree days to come with you and your husband.
Rebecca,
Athena is just lovely - she looks so serene in her pictures.
Karen VA,
Olivia, on the other hand, looks like she is a scamp! She looks wonderful.
Heather,
Johnny does look incredibly happy to be out and about! Well done on your maneuvering.
Kylia,
Tracey already gave you the same advice I've given in situations where you feel you can't abide another person's behavior. What's disturbing you so much is not your SIL's actions, but the fact that she's violating your expectations of how she should behave. When you can bring yourself around to expecting absolutely nothing from your SIL, you will be calmer. Then the few helpful things she does will be a pleasant surprise, and the rest won't make you so upset.
Have had three nights back-to-back of five hours, four hours and then three hours sleep, and my body just rebelled this morning. Went right back to bed after Corey left for work and slept for two hours, got up, made a little breakfast, sat down for a few moments in the recliner and slept for another two hours. Feel as if I've finally caught up.
This afternoon, my plan is to finish getting that sewing room usable (for those interested, I have two Brother machines, one's kept loaded for straight stitch and regular sewing with a walking foot, and the other with a foot for free motion quilting). I have them both set up, one on a sewing table that was my birthday present back in April, and one on an older cabinet that has seen better days. I'm going to unload that older cabinet completely and get rid of it to clear some room, and then just swap the machines out on the table as needed. Will free up tons of space and make my head stop hurting when I go in that room, hopefully. Also need to set up a pegboard for thread and bobbins, but need a few things from Lowes.
On the fence saga - hadn't heard anything from them since the gas line was repaired, and as of this morning, there were still three post holes to be jackhammered out and a total of four posts to set in concrete.
So, the guys with the materials showed up (it's what woke me up the second time) and are putting up rails and pickets on the existing poles. Not actually finishing setting the posts that need to be set up, just putting up what they can. And, of course, the first rain we've had in WEEKS should be starting within the next half hour or so, so they won't be staying long.
I just have no words.
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa6 -
Barbara: Thank you for the (((hugs))). Schooner is doing okay for now. We're planning to take things as they come. In our house, coffee is a basic food group. I don’t drink it after mid-morning, though. :noway:
Machka: I agree about the difficulty with replying via phone. I can read messages on my phone, but when I want to reply it is not something that I want to do via phone. I want to use my computer.
Heather: Thank you for the information on the Epley Maneuver. I’m happy that Johnny had no pain.
Karen in VA: Thank you for your sympathy. I will likely need it more and more as time goes along. Right now, Schooner seems comfortable and is not in pain. He has pain meds and a cream to help him with the sore on his backside. :flowerforyou:
(((Kylia))): Your SIL is not likely to change her attitude. It seems like she has things set up just for her personal convenience. I have sympathy for your situation, but no real advice. (((HUGS))) Can you look for work elsewhere?
SuziQ: I hope you stay safe and the tropical depression goes out to sea. Meanwhile, stock up on food and liquids. Bottled water comes to mind.
(((Melissa))): Your upcoming cat scan is going to give information you can use whether it is good news or difficult news. One of the huge assets of MFP is the opportunity to log every bite and swallow, and to track the macros. If you’re eating loads of fat, make sure it is balanced with healthy fat, such as olive oil. :flowerforyou:
Faye: Stay safe and as cool as you can. Be sure to drink plenty of water.
Tracy in Edmonton: Thank you for your kind words about Schooner. We are planning to do just as you suggest and enjoy him as long as we can. :flowerforyou:
Mag SD: Welcome!
Our usual breakfast is cottage cheese with fruit. Blueberries are my favorite. Today we had fresh pineapple. DH loved it, and I’ve been spending LOTS of time in the Loo. :ohwell: I think I’ll pass on future pineapple.
Stay safe, my friends.
