Heather: Happy birthday!
Barbie: Thanks for getting us started on another great month of smart support and sharing.
Lisa: Congratulations to your lovely daughter and the lucky groom.
Machka: I hope that this month brings you continued weight loss and some hopeful answers to your medical issues. I am another who was raised to 'clean my plate'. Gah! So hard to break that habit.
Lanette: So happy to see you stepping into your power and taking care of yourself.
Pip: You are amazing!!!
Mary: What is the make and model of your TENS unit?
Happy to have dropped 2 pounds this month. I picked up some embroidery kits and keeping my hands busy until my eyes are drowsy has definitely cut down on the night snacking. Speaking of eyes, I've just had my vision checked and splurged on a fabulous new pair of prescription driving sunglasses. We get dangerously bright sunrises and sunsets at this altitude in the winter, so these can be considered a safety device. 😎☀
I have an interesting slate of events to work this month beginning tonight with a concert by Florence and the Machine. There are few musical events in celebration of national Hispanic Heritage month. The plays include Come From Away and Ain't Too Proud. And NBA basketball gets started this month...woot! Depending on the event and venue I either check bags, scan tickets or usher. I get a charge being around people who are so excited to be there. Sometimes they cheer and yelp as they enter the gates. I'll never take seeing a live show for granted again.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Thanks for the advice! I was wrestling with the "should I eat, or not" mindset. The chicken broth seems to satisfy me. The prescription Mirilax I got is completely tasteless, yay! Taking that once a day. I washed my bedding, cleaned the bathroom rugs, vacuumed (yes that was surprising), made my three quarts of chicken broth, still have to make biscuits for husband and fried rice. Oh also have to check bills, as husband paid them but didn't use "my system".
Thanks again.💖👍🏻

Each year my former employer here in Virginia honors the five/ten/fifteen/etc. employee anniversaries by having a very nice dinner and gift presentation. This will be the last one I attend now that I am retired. I have 30 years with the company. It was a lovely evening. The President and CEO give the remarks; I have known both of them since 1990. There have been ups and downs, and even some rough spots and serious disagreements with my corporate office during the last 30 years, but the bottom line is that they have always had my back.
When it was my turn to be "honored" Thursday night, I asked if I could have the microphone for a couple of minutes...and I told the attendees this story:
In 2001, with the full support of my employer, I was on an open-ended leave of absence to be with my ailing mother in Nebraska. We really thought she would rally and move to an assisted living situation, but she died on a Thursday afternoon, after I had been there about a month. The next morning (Friday) I called to tell the news to the CEO & President, who had met and liked my mother very much. They said they wanted to send flowers and asked the details of the time & location of the funeral, which I gave them.
Our minister graciously agreed to have the funeral on Sunday afternoon, 2 days later, so my mother's teacher colleagues could attend the funeral. In the Midwest and Great Plains there is a tradition called a flower ceremony where the funeral director reads all the cards on the flower arrangements to the funeral goers. Then there is a short break, and the funeral takes place after that.
After the flower service, I stepped out of the sanctuary, and was dumbfounded to see the President and the CEO of my company standing there smiling at me. In my little church. In my little rural Nebraska town. At my mother's funeral! They had 48 hours from the time I notified them of her death to make all the arrangements, drive from Richmond to Dulles, fly to Denver, rent a car, and drive 4 hours to my little southwest Nebraska home town.
And that's who these two men are.
They got a little misty-eyed when I told that story.
Some of the people at the dinner are "originals" who have been with the company since the beginning in 1981, and they totally knew what I was talking about.
The CEO is an eccentric visionary, and the President is the ultimate gentleman diplomat, albeit a dyed-in-the-wool Machiavellian. An odd couple who took an idea and a building in Richmond, VA, and parlayed it into a company that currently employs over 4,000 people at 76 locations. I have had a good career and I am grateful.

Just found out my friend's niece who has been battling bone cancer that was in her leg(surgery was a year ago) and had spots removed from her lungs got her test results back and they have found a new spot on her lungs and she has been having a lot of pain in her stomach so they are running tests.
Because of this new spot, they have stopped chemo again, to find a better combination.
Her name is Destiny and she is just 14yrs old.
She needs all the prayers she can get.13 -

Thanks Barbie!
Lisa - she is a beautiful bride.
Viv - I would avoid the statins unless you really need them. I just went off of them in July. One of their side effects is muscle pain and cramping. I feel so much better now. I don't have cramps from exercise or crocheting anymore.
Rosemarie - i don't know if it is possible for you but my brother in CA has a Tesla wall. PG&E installed it because of the blackouts they had due to fire safety issues and he has congestive heart failure and needs oxygen. The wall consists of batteries that charge from his regular electrical system and then supply power if it goes off. The wall can also be charged with solar power although he does not have that feature.
DD and I got some outside work done today. We picked up the paddocks, watered outside plants, pulled weeds and cut down brush. This afternoon it has gotten smokey again but mot quite as bad as last weekend. I picked some of our tomatoes and we will have bacon and tomato sandwiches tonight for dinner.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA7 -
Bought this lil statue for $5. Painted it, gave him a red collar like yogi. The hardest was making a brown color for his eyes, but I love how he came out.

Been taking a walk after dinner. However, yesterday (Fri) it was raining out so I just did one of the new Leslie Sansone DVD’s that I recently got. No work tomorrow so I get to exercise! The plan is to ride the recumbant bike (haven’t done that in a while), then do some of the Abs with Jackie DVD, then hopefully take a walk.
M – sorry about the skin cancer.
Karen – what a great birthday!
Pip – nice shower
katla – so happy for you that your husband is joining you
Do you know that they canceled school here? Vince's allergist closed early as did the vet’s office. Really, it wasn’t that bad at all.
Debbie – it would be great if your mom’s roommate took the job. I can’t believe what she’s done! (or not done)
pip – I like that jersey
Heather – happy birthday
Viv – so sorry about your bp. No, I don’t think you’re a bad friend.
Rosemarie – I think it’s a good idea to use the app to find a walking buddy. They are interested in walking so they’ll be more likely to want to do it all the time. I’d go for it
KJ – love you, girl. Always look forward to your posts. Vince doesn’t wear sunscreen, he doesn’t like the feel of it, either. Me? I keep Coppertone in business. I’m with you, a “wrinkle prevention”. It makes me sad to see older people with really wrinkly skin. I may be there one day but I’ll try me darndest not to get wrinkly
Melanie – welcome!
Lisa – your daughter’s smile says it all. She’s lovely
M – count me in on the “clean your plate” club
Rebecca – I agree. Listen to your body. If you don’t feel like eating, don’t
Karen – how wonderful of your president and CEO to go to the funeral
Debbie – prayers for Destiny. How horrible for someone so young
As for me: I’ve been working. Volunteered at the Green Room. Forgot that it was only seasons subscribers who could purchase tickets so didn’t have any calls. Volunteered at the soup table. Am making this ceramic pelican for a lady at the condo. Fortunately, I bought the white paint and I had black so I brought it home to paint. Just need to go Mon, touch it up, put a bit of black on the wings, and it’ll be ready to be fired.
Made crab cakes for us for during the week. Made 2 batches of chocolate chip cookies. Did laundry and food shopping. Stopped to meet Newcomers at a lunch place but just had tea to drink since I needed to leave early to take Loki to the vet. If I really wanted, I know Vince would have taken Loki, but I didn’t want to stay real long. Pete’s birthday (Denise’s hubby) was Friday.
Jess called to say that she’d be here today but then she called to say that Colby had to work so they might come tomorrow. As much as I’d like to see her, I wouldn’t have a problem if she came next weekend. To drive 5 hrs to be here for a little over 5 hrs? But if she wants to, that’s fine. When she gets a spare bedroom set, we can go up there on a Sat. after my work and spend the night.
Was going to wash the rug where Lexi would poop and I KNEW I had rug cleaner. Seems Jess took it so she’ll bring it here. Cleaned three of the bathrooms, washed the floor (exciting stuff, huh?)
Lectored tonight. Did laundry since it was SUPPOSED to really rain. In the end, we got 1, 2” max, of rain. Walked down to Food Lion to get cookies that were on sale. Something Jess would eat. For some reason, she’d prefer a store-bought cookie over a homemade one.
Better run now. Know that you’re all in my thoughts and prayers all the time.
Oh, still no word on where we’ll be for ceramics come the end of October. The paint for the body of Mrs. Stewart (the snail for Jess and Colby) was supposed to come in Wed. so hope it’s here so I can finish that before ceramics closes.
Oh, went out to dinner with the Newcomers Wed. and then played "music bingo". I'm not a bingo person, but this was something different. Some of the songs I recognized and lots of them we sang to like YMCA, It's Raining Men, the theme song from the Beverly Hilbillies, theme from Gilligan's Island and the Flinstones, things like that.

Whidislander wrote: »Thanks Barbie for starting us all off on the right path, month after month, year after year! I think I was with y'all during the difficult years, dealing with husband and his liver issues. I kept your inspiration in my back pocket when I had to drive from the Oregon coast to Portland for appointments or procedures. You all were my lifesaver and heck you have me as a friend for life. No doubt about it!💖👍🏻🤗
I am feeling better. Slept fairly well last night. Heck, just saying I slept is quite an improvement! Still on chicken broth, a couple mugs a day and that's it. My abdomen isn't as sore and the Meta Mucil, and 80 oz of water is taking effect. Husband went out to get me my perscription of mirilax, so I will start taking that as well. Right now I can't really feel hunger but I will pay attention when I start. Concerned on exactly "what" I should actually eat. For those that don't know, the doctor stated my large intestines were impacted a bit. Oatmeal? Just soup and crackers or toast? I am kind of afraid of eating. (A sentence I thought would never come out of my mouth) 😂!
Thinking all my work at my sisters, in temperatures warmer than I was used to, and not drinking enough water probably got me to this state.
Hugs!

As the others have said, first, give your system a rest. Don't eat until you're ready but keep consuming liquids and some salt. I have found soup broth nice for that.
Then personally, I would probably go with a higher fibre diet ... lots of fruit and veg ... and drinking 2-3 litres of water a day. Plus getting out and walking 30 minutes or more a day.

Optimistic October ...
https://actionforhappiness.org/calendar
One thing I always look forward to in October in Australia is Daylight Savings Time! It has begun! As of today, I've got my evenings back ... no more deep darkness.
Other things ...
I'm hoping to finish my dry stream project.
I'd like to get a whole lot more flowers planted.
We're hoping to get bees this month.
I'm hoping to find a GP I like.
We're hoping to do a lot more cycling than we have been during the darkness of winter.
I'm hoping for more lunch walks.
And I'm looking forward to more time off this month, during which time I hope to finish my dry stream project and get outside cycling more.

The very happiest of birthdays to yooouuu dear Heather!
Karen just saw the pic of Olivia and her mama. Catches my heart whenever I see that miracle baby so healthy and happy. Makes the Josephina Ballerina update that much more heart breaking. St. Jude, please!
Lisa me2. “Glad to be here” is my standard reply to “How are you?” ConVERYgratulations on leaving the obese category! Cause for rejoicing.
KJ Halelujah and amen indeed! It IS a small miracle when our husbands decide it’s time to go see a doctor.
Heather’s Edie’s take on your DDIL and cooking - priceless and so apt! Oh! That Autumn sprite!
Tracey Michaela’s tiara but most of all the unicorn jammies.
Lisa my entertaining style is somewhere in between Machka’s and yours
Allie add my voice to those who advise that Kyle and Tracy need a better backup plan. Not just so you can enjoy your life, but in case you get sick what would they do? Tying you down until the little guy is in pre-school is not only not fair, it’s not practical.
Annie ((hugs))
Jean in NM (((hugs held extra long))) Such sudden, life-shattering losses so close together (((hugs)))
Lanette Joe used to have a doormat that simply said “LEAVE”
Allie hooray for posting Miles’ pics!
Katla glad you’ve met some pleasant people and DH is improfing. Humming birds say “hi!”
Rebecca  the Athena pics and the video of you driving the tractor. Athena looks like a model for an orange juice commercial. If that tractort has a grader attachment could you drive it on down here? Caught the tail end of a snippet on the news about a PFA contamination on Whidbey Island. Hope you and your Chief are not affected. Likewise hope to read in the following pages that you’ve had good medical care for that scary stomach pain. Only through Sept pg 63 but time to snooozzzze
Done:10/1: Move: 2 sets pt, dog group, stroll/chat with T, active mins:221 steps:7522

Best birthday ever! Snacks and dancing during Strictly. Taught Edie how to do the Viennise Waltz. I didn't sleep at all -too excited 😆 but who cares. I got up early to put my birthday face on and then opened cards and presents with the kids. DH cooked pancakes and we had patisserie. Ooouuufff!
Parents arriving soon and I will make coffee and offer gluten free delights.
Last night Edie said to DH that she was glad in a way that I broke up with Grandpa because otherwise she wouldn't have met him. He came downstairs beaming!
So grateful. DH currently playing a game with them in the front room.

Machka Thank you for posting the information on preventing constipation. Lots of information on there that I think will help my mum - she suffers dreadfully. She already does a few of the recommendations, but certainly a few other ideas we can try. We'll go slowly as I don't want to overburden her system. Plus I'll have to persuade her to give up on some dairy products (she does like the extra creamy yogurts)

Morning ladies
Slept fairly well.no adverse effects from the shots except a bit of soreness, but that is to be expected..
Talked with Tom yesterday his neighbor a couple doors down..went and checked inside the place there was a little bit of water in the spare bedroom but nothing horrible..the pictures I posted and showed you were the car port and screeened porch and the florida room ripped off but the slider and kitchen window withstood the wind,so they dodged a bullet.
I really enjoyed going there for many years and so many more in the park lost so much more..
Today im just going to lay low and rest..
Tracy and the family are supposed to get pictures taken today and its cloudy and kinda yucky out.4 -
Heather: Happy Birthday!
Pipcd34: Love your new dog!
Sue: Never knew about Tesla Walls before
DLFK: Praying for Destiny
:
Melanie: Welcome
Karen: What a wonderful story!
Annie: Enjoy your books!
KJlmore: Thank you for your thoughts about us. I feel the same way!
VIv: Of course you miss your DH. My husband never did a lot socially. So I would probably have decided it wasn't the event for me or I might have gone alone but probably the former.
Lisa: Congrats on your daughter's wedding!
Carol: By all means, take it to the store, let them pack it...and get the mattress out of your life. And yes it is money lost. I sometimes spend more in packing and shipping to send gifts up North than I do for the gift itself. I kick myself over it, but I don't have the energy nor storage space to be doing all that wrapping and packing myself.
I am about to have my Zoom Spiritual Writing Group at 9. I have missed some of these sessions so hope to make this one. I am sleeping longer and better. I do get up in the middle of the night and take a bath and then go back to bed! My body is craving exercise, and I use to exercise, but am still too tired to do too much. I hope this changes. I have been watching a series on British Villages...very soothing. I sometimes leave it on without the sound just for the landscapes!4 -

Oooooh Carol, that's clever.
Watched a bit of the London Marathon, which always brings a tear to my eye, ate my Scotch egg with garlicky salad, and took to my bed to recover from my sleepless night and flu jab. Now awake and feeling blessed.
The sun is shining.
About to rejoin DH for a cup of tea.
Edie came down this morning with a book I'd written back in the 80s, called "The Double". It was one of the Children's Books of the Year and I went to a presentation at the Royal Festival Hall! She said it was one of the best books she'd ever read and it was amazing! I was so happy. I can see why she would like it as it's all about complicated family relationships and a girl who obsesses about her fantasy twin sister because she hasn't got a father. It was written for girls around her age, or a bit older. She didn't quite grasp all the subtleties of the plot, but she asked me to explain the bits she didn't understand, which was so sweet. She is endlessly curious about family relationships. I think she will be a psychologist when she grows up, like her mum!
Even Bea has started asking questions about DH's adoption etc.
Yesterday, while I was getting tea ready, DH got a phone call from his brother in law. DH had just recently sent his twin sister an email and had got a very basic reply. He has been worried about her for a year or two now. Apparently, the BIL said she is getting very confused and he is finding it difficult. He is 85! They are still able to go on holiday, but it is increasingly difficult.
DH finds it quite distressing. He only found out that he had a twin in his late forties and they haven't been able to see each other very regularly as she lives in the North of England. He never liked the BIL, so that made it difficult. She is a very different character to him and has led a prescribed life. Sad. I doubt he will make the effort to go and see her.
