10 km run with the Group in the North Wood's Hills on the new trail that I had scouted out.
One lady called it the " Sleepy Hollow Trail" referring to Ichabod Crane. It is October so is only fitting.

    10/04 – 7.1 Km – 7.1 Km – 92.9 Km to go
    10/05 – 7.0 Km –14.1 Km – 85.8 Km to go
    10/07 – 12.5 Km –26.6 Km – 73.4 Km to go
    10/10 – 16.8 Km –43.4 Km – 56.6 Km to go
    10/15 – 9.96 Km – 53.36 Km – 46.64 Km to go
    10/16 –11.5 Km – 64.86 Km – 35.14 Km to go
    10/18 –10.0 Km – 74.86 Km – 25.14 Km to go – YTD - 10 + 302.66 = 312.66 Km

@snha Glad the links were helpful. In my last Doctor's Visit my RHR was an amazing low of 50 :D
    @kstar_lee Precious Photo.
@kristinegift Baltimore HM Great Accomplishment no matter what your time is.

@kareF Still experimenting on Fuelling my Long Runs ( over 10 km ) - anything under 10km I find I don't really need anything. Once I get past that I need to have a little something by 15km or at 17km I will be hurting. I have eliminated any fruit ( dried or raw ) that is sweet as it just does not agree with me when running. The best thing so far has been Protein Energy bars Such as Cliff. I stay away from the Mocha/Coffee ones due to the caffeine. Like your Energy Drink Experience where it spiked your heart rate they just don't agree with me. @skippygirlsmom described it best as to how dangerous they are. Once I have started to re-hydrate after a run I do enjoy a Bagel with Peanut Butter and then a small coffee. Water and Food first then caffeine. Pre-race Peanut Butter cookies. Sounds crazy but it seems to work with no negative effects.

@gabbo34 We're not far from Lewisville Tx. My first HM 2 weeks as go, I saw my husband (he runs too) waiting for me at the finish. I waved, figured he'd meet me outside the banana/oranges/water tent. I guess he didn't see me and walked down the course to find me. I wandered around alone for 30+ minutes before he came back up to find me. I understand the lonely sad sack wondering around alone after a personal achievement. maybe we could run some of the same races.
    Congratulations on the race!

4.5 miles today, farthest I've run in years. And with a cold too. It's only 41 degrees out here, so this was my first run that truly felt like fall. Enjoying seeing the pumpkins, ghouls and halloween decorations going up around the neighborhood.

10/1 8.25 treadmill run at just around 12:00
    10/2 3.75 treadmill run at 11:28
    10/3 rest

    10/4 3.0 @ 12:03 outside
10/5 unplanned busy busy "rest" day
10/6 5.25 @ 11:40 on the treadmill, plus strength training
    10/7 6.0 @ 12:05 on the park trail (and 2.5 walking to and from school/warm up/cool down--not counted)
    10/8 rest
10/9 5.25 @ 11:14 on the treadmill, plus strength training
    10/10 rest

10/11 4.5 @ 11:49 on the park trail, just a nice, enjoyable run on a beautiful Sunday morning
10/12 4.0 @ 12:00 on the treadmill, nice and easy
10/13 3.5 @ 10:48 on the treadmill, plus 20 minutes rowing machine instead of weights (changing things up!)
10/14 9.0 @ 12:32 twice around the lake on the park trail.
    10/15 Yoga day
    10/16 2.5 @ 12:03 around the neighborhood
    10/17 Rest

10/18 3.1 @ 10:52 (so 33:10--a PR and a minute and a half faster than my first 5K 2 months ago!) Race day at the George Mason Family Day 5K. Very cold--I went out last night and bought a hat and some thin gloves and a long sleeve shirt. I've never run in temps below 40, so it was a learning experience. I actually started regretting my coat about 1/2 a mile in and took my hat off at the 2-mile marker. I felt stiff though, until I warmed up, so I'm not sure what you do about that part?

A picture of me with my daughter (a Junior Communications major at Mason) and the Patriot:

Congratulations on your marathon, @patrikc333! Great time on your 5K, @snha !

I'm still learning about food and fueling, too, @kareF and @ACSL3 , I don't really want to carry food, but I definitely hit a wall at about 7 miles. I'm going to try something out this week--a string cheese in my phone pack!

    @gabbo34 awesome job!
@ewrook nice just on the distance!
@5beautifuldays I think dressing for cold is one of the hardest things to do. I ran this morning, it was 39 at run time and though it was sunny it was a trail run so no real sun on me, but no breeze. I seldom wear a hat unless it under 25F I wear a moisture wicking headband and if I get hot I just slide it down on my neck. Today I wore capris, short sleeve moisture wicking with a long sleeve moisture wicking with a half zipper over it, head band and running gloves. I wore the gloves because I carried the water bottle and it was cold LOL I call zippers on jackets/shirts air conditioning and heaters, up if I'm cold, down when I get hot. To get out the stiff feeling before a race because of the cold, I'll get there a bit earlier and run some, maybe a half mile or so just to warm up. Love the picture of you and your daughter - Fantastic PR!!!

@5BeautifulDays - good job on the PR. Agree with @skippygirlsmom that dressing for the cold is hard...and really personal. Trying the right layers is a bit of trial and error...but you definitely want to err on the side of being cold at the beginning and warming up while you go. I'm really weird about my hands. They get cold REALLY easily, so I end up with gloves in handwarmers at temps were a lot of people don't even use gloves.

@acsl3 Skip talked about the Navy too. She's got time since she's only a sophomore, but if she does decide to go the military route her plan is to take someone who can throw the BS flag at the recruiter if they promise something they can't give.

    Good idea ;)

    Haha, cute - and true

@kristinegift - sounds like you picked up a few lessons en route through the course. Still, always good when you can take away something from a race about what not to do at a future one.

@patrikc333 - congrads on finishing your first marathon! Always a huge accomplishment getting through the 26.2

Finally bit the bullet and with some cooler weather I did a long run tonight with the last 5.5 miles at my next HM target speed. I'm not sure why I had been shying away from it as I got through the run pretty quickly and it was very handy seeing if my HM target speed was in line with prior HM heart rates. From the run, it looks like a 7:15/mile pace should be feasible if the weather cooperates, but I'll do another trial run in 2 weekends and see if my body agrees with that strategy. I also ended up riding over 100 miles this weekend prior to the run, so a slightly faster pace may be doable if I'm better rested and fueled.

    10/1 - 7 miles
    10/2 - 8.5 miles
10/3 - 4 miles (pace run at 1/2 marathon speed)
    10/4 - 9 miles
    10/5 - 8.5 miles
    10/6 - 8.5 miles
    10/7 - 8 miles
    10/8 - 8 miles (w. 0.25-0.5-0.75-1-0.75-0.5-0.25 pyramid @ 6:35 pace)
    10/9 - 9 miles
    10/10 - 4 miles
    10/11 - 8 miles
    10/12 - 7 miles
    10/14 - 9 miles (4 w. neighbor, 5 solo)
10/15 - 1 mile (pre lift warm up)
    10/16 - 5 miles (w. strides at end)
    10/18 - 14 miles (8.5 easy Z2, final 5.5 at HM pace)

    Total: 118.5 miles
    Goal: 170 miles
    Remaining: 51.5 miles

So I was 7 mi short last month of 100 mi (Did get a couple hundred on the bike, though)

But with two weeks to go, I'm at 70.2 with a minimum of 22.5 (club run and event Fri and Sat) I'll just need 6 the last week.

    miles to date.....ZERO!!
been seeing a physio for a strained hamstring, and have not been able to do any running at all. im desperate to get back to it. I want to try a little jog to see how it goes, but im scared that I will cause more damage. Physio says to hold off, but im not sure if that's just to be on the safe side. its been 4 weeks of no running.

reading all of your comments and seeing your pictures makes me very jealous!

I'm a little late with putting in my mileage.
    10/16-Strong Curves Workout C & 3.1 miles(Actually got to my goal of a 10 minute mile <3 )
10/17-10.12 miles (Run was great until the last two miles. Note to self: No speedwork the day before or maybe it was my eating)

@JoRocka Where you stayed for your half was pretty. I thought it was Graceland for a minute. My ultimate goal is to travel to different cities to run a half and shop later...weekend runcation.
@shanaber LOL! That's how I feel. One day I'll be all the way crazy, just not today.
@SAfricaChick I'll be 41 on Black Friday. I ain't got time to be out there pretending I'm 20. LOL! I want a gradual build up like you did. I know it takes a mental toughness to go along with completing that distance.
@skippygirlsmom 2.5 hours is what I'm saying is my limit, maybe 3. I get all kinds of work related problems resolved in that time. I don't know if I could concentrate longer than that. I have a hard time now with wanting to randomly dance while running. I've almost killed myself a couple of times :D
This is the song that comes on and I loose all control. My son sent this to me last year. I've been trying to do some of those moves ever since. I almost got one of those big afros ;)

I wasn't sure I'd be able to do 50k this month but the kms are slowly building up. 26.2k so its possible! :)
I like the idea of working towards a set goal.

@skippygirlsmom I am in Okinawa because my husband is a Marine stationed here. It is sub tropical climate on Okinawa. It is far south of mainland Japan. The culture and food are quite different too. It is hot/humid all summer and gorgeous fall/winter. Spring is quite wet. I have become accustomed to running in any weather (except cold). We don't have cold here. :)

Did a trail race this weekend. Only7.3 miles but 2000 ft elevation climb. Then had to wear heels out that night. Tired feet! Planning a long run Wednesday and short tomorrow.
