It was even hotter today than yesterday. I expected to have a slow, miserable run. I was pleasantly surprised that I had a great run. I enjoyed almost all of it. The last .8 miles kind of sucked, but the first part was great and I ran a little faster than I have been averaging lately. I considered not running because of the heat, but I'm glad I did it. I have to drive my mom to Dallas tomorrow (a 2.5 hour drive) for a doctor's appointment so I won't be able to get a run tomorrow. Besides, it is July in Texas. It will either be hot or miserably hot so I figure I might as well just get it done. It did occur to me today that I might be running a little faster just so I could be finished sooner.
I'm in Texas too. Just north of Fort Worth before you get to Denton. It has been sooo very hot! And humid.
My son is at school in Denton.
I love Denton! Do you come to visit?0 -
@seanevan10 Hey I'm in Ardmore ok. No too far from you!
We have some property not too far from Ardmore so we are up there every now and then.1 -
So, I was going to do my easy 5 mile recovery run after work yesterday, but have decided to move that to Saturday, after Zumba. We had a big low pressure storm system come through yesterday afternoon, and I think my blood pressure took a nosedive. I had also done 8 miles the night before, including the track speed workout, and it was very humid and warm, so I might have also been salt-depleted. Whatever the cause, I was feeling kinda light headed yesterday afternoon, and occasionally verging on slightly nauseous feeling, so I decided it would be a better idea to drink a lot of water, take in some salt, and postpone my run. Very much looking forward to todays' 8-9 miles of running (probably going to split between lunch and after work) because it's gray and rainy out and only has a projected high of 71°F! Woohoo!!!2

I hate when it it hot and muggy and it is as hard to get your sports bra on as it is to get it off!6

@skippygirlsmom - Vertigo is no fun. Glad you were able to get home safely. The only time I experience vertigo is in the swimming pool, usually after doing a few flip turns badly and BANG it hits me. Like you it quickly ends my workout regime.
It's been a sucky week for running, to many long days at work with lots of driving = mental exhaustion = Bed Head = zero run motivation.
Was in a confined space on Wednesday and cramped up, since then my hammy has been all twingeeee and grumpy so between travel/time restrictions a forced down week.0 -
@elise4270 thanks for the link. Years ago when it first started to happen the neurologist told my mother that it is caused by a virus, but "vertigo" itself is a symptom of other types of things (things they ruled out when I was in my teens). The hope is the virus goes away. When it started again bad a few years later the neurologist said evidently the virus never went away. There is nothing you can take to cure it (depending on what it's from), but things you can do to help with the symptoms. Though stress doesn't cause it, it can make it worse and I think that might be my issue right now.0

Warm morning, but it felt good today. The vertigo stayed in check as long as a kept my eyes about 5 feet in front of me. Though I had to laugh trying to tie my shoes, I finally had to put my feet up on my bed.
Working half day so I'll have to come back to read everyone's posts.4 -

It was so hot when I went out last night (at 8). It didn't feel too awful when I started but by the time I got home, I was dripping in sweat. 2.5 miles jog/walk so I am up to 7.5 for the month! I never really thought I'd say this since I started my "running" while in the Navy, but I actually look forward to my 'run'. I am slow and had a little, what you guys call 'niggle' in my shin when I got done, but still felt accomplished. Wouldn't actually call it feeling good. I realized after I got done that I really hadn't hydrated yesterday as well as I usually do. Won't let that happen again. The weekend, we are picking up some pottery kilns from East Texas and going on trail walk/hikes that my boys call 'Adventure Walks'. They don't realize it's exercise and I won't tell them.6

Ok - just a quick mid-month check in. Falling a touch behind on the running goal as I've learned to embrace the treadmill here in Florida, and am piling up the miles on the bike instead (570 so far). Back up north Monday and planning to spend more time on the cooler trails with a ride from Pittsburgh to DC planned for late next week. On the plus side, with the Tour De France on in the AM, it is good treadmill watching.

6.25 miles this morning, 100% humidity. I'm pretty drained now, feel a little woozy despite having downed powerade, banana, and water.

We do go up there some. I love Denton. I would really like to move there some day. But right now he gets a scholarship through my job, so we won't be moving anywhere for a while. My sister is fixing to move to Aurora. She has a son in Ft. Worth and another in Denton. I've never been to (or even heard of Aurora), but I think the area around Ft. Worth/Denton is really nice.0 -

@dkabambe, bummer about your DNS. Glad you seem to be doing better.
@AriellesMama and @Seanevan10, welcome!
So, today was my "long" run and I did 8.01 miles! Woo Hoo!! Previous longest run was 7.13 last Friday. I only intended to do 7.5 but I ran too far away and had to get back anyway so just ran all the way home.
July totals: 34.61 / 60
AND, I signed up for the Monterey Bay Half Marathon in November. Going to spend the weekend there. Funny, my only other race was a 5k and it was also along the ocean but in Santa Cruz. I am sensing a pattern here.13 -

New Balence 880v7. New Balance is the only brand that works for me. I have a New Balence shoe graveyard in my spare closet. I really need to go through it and chunk some of them....1 -
@MNLittleFinn yes, good luck with your race!0
