Pretty miserable today. But tomorrow is my bi-weekly weigh-in and I am only 0.4 lbs away from my goal. So at least that will motivate me to go to the gym and stay on my diet
Well done on your weight loss!! I can imagine how excited you'd be so close. That awesome!!
I'm looking forward to the day when I am that close. I'm a third (was going to say "only" but that's negative) the way since last weigh in.
The gym sound great especally for mind occupation.

I fell guilty bcoz I haven't seen much action today as some days. I hope with my earlier posts i haven't turned off people or made anyone loose focus.

Went down to a pub last night to wait for take out dinner I had ordered. The pub was packed. I felt like a spy, observing each and every person sitting at the bar area and high top tables. Of course it was happy hour and alcohol was flowing freely. I had purchased an iced tea from the food area and took it into the pub area.
As I was sitting there I thought how many people would have still been chugging down beers, shots and mixed drinks if there were a chart or poster on the wall showing the number of units they should be consuming and not exceding?
I was moved yesterday watching that video from the UK that I believe Jen had posted. We as normal people do not realize what an alcohol unit of measure is.
I watched as the bartender asked people if they "wanted another drink "(exact words). In reality when she served them it was a pint glass with 2.5 alcohol units in it. Yet we will swear we only had ONE OR TWO drinks if questioned. When it is truly 2.5 or 5 drinks.
Just an observation as I sipped my pint glass of iced tea.

I do find it funny as bars are so conscious of the booze amount it shares as $$. Hmm...1 -

You are being to hard on yourself and I’m not even sure why. We all share everything here, highs and lows.
I feel like March in general has had much less activity. For one not everyone is capable of sticking to changes in their health long term. So a lot of people that were excited in Jan probably fell off and aren’t even on their diets or cutting out booze anymore. And even us “regulars” have been pretty open and honest about March being tough for us, so we may not be posting as frequently. But at least those of us that are still here have been there for each other.5 -
I’m finding a lot of peace this month in seeing myself able to cut down my wine intake. I think a lot of it was pure denial and frankly habit. The education part of learning about the effects of alcohol have been really good. After Dry January I was nervous about whether my drinking would be a daily thing again, but I’m glad it’s not. Taking the month off helped me realize how much I enjoy wine free stretches of time and how to see AF days as joyful vs. a sacrifice.
I wish I could go back and talk to myself 5 years ago
The accountability of this group really helps. Next few weeks will be tough - I go to Chicago this weekend - then my birthday in Wine country and then a week later Mexico for a week. Vacations have always been a daily drinking thing for me.5 -

Yes and the more the persons bar tab comes to the more $$$ tip $$$ the bartender makes. Vicious cycle indeed.

I started this month with good intentions, did well until last week and had a drink three evenings in a row. Poo! I'm back now with the intention of 1 drink per week. I know I can do this!5

Still dry for the month. The last major hurdle for me is this weekend - I'm going to a concert on Friday night and Saturday is St. Patrick's Day which is like the Super Bowl of drinking holidays. It will be unusual for me to be at a show without a beer in hand, but I plan on having bottled water and I've got plans with family on Saturday, so I should be able to continue my streak of alcohol-free days.10

Hi there I love soda water and lime when I'm out with friends drinking. It's bubbly and refreshing. Plus it's great for waistline plus you stay hydrated ... It's a win, win.2 -

Don't apologize at all! You are always the best cheerleader on this thread. And it's ok if you have a down day or a difficult day. We all do! We are here for each other on good days and bad. Always feel free to post on those bad days; we will lift you up if we can. xo3 -
This weekend will be a big test for me. I am going away with my friends to party and go out to bars and dance. They are big drinkers but always under control. We have great laughs and love the holiday. And we Uber or walk everywhere. I will probably have a few drinks. Maybe not. I really won't know until I'm with them how I'll feel.
On one hand, I don't even want to take one sip; it has lost its appeal after 70+ days of AF.
On the other hand, I may need this weekend to sign and seal the deal that my drinking days are over. I may indulge one last time and probably regret it.
What's strange is the anxiety I am feeling now just thinking about it. The reason I was able to be AF since Jan.1st was that I made an absolute rule within myself not to take a sip.

I was dry all January even when I went away to Nashville for the weekend with friends. I think you will have to decide if it's more important to you to stay AF for 30 days without wavering?

Just my 2 cents: That is HUGE and is the one thing I have not been able to do with myself that keeps leading me back to drinking. You have done an AMAZING job so far. I completely understand your concern and anxiety about this upcoming weekend. I think that you have to ask yourself what it is that you stand to gain by drinking this weekend. Is it really to prove to yourself that your drinking days are over or is it to prove to yourself that you can have the very occasional indulgence and then go back to being alcohol free? Either answer is fine, whatever it is that you are looking for. Just know that, from somebody that has been unable to make that commitment to myself, what you have accomplished is something to be very proud of and it might not be as easy if you have to start over.
Please know that I am by no means preaching here. I completely respect and support whatever you decide to do. I just wanted to offer a perspective from someone who continues to struggle with what you have accomplished and also let you know how much I admire you for it.

quit drinking December 11th and there are events (like a concert last weekend, or st. patrick's day celebrations) that I feel would be more "fun" with alcohol - but I know that I over indulge when I do drink. Not helpful for weight loss or my life in general.10

Hey I'm going to be in Mexico for a week at the end of the month - an all inclusive and I too am a little nervous about it - but am planning to stick with my moderation approach. Just like with my food intake, there are times when I'm more indulgent than normal and my relative success with my plans to cut back on drinking since early January suggest that even if I do overindulge some that week - I have the tools to get back on track shortly after.
Enjoy the festivities - be mindful and be moderate - that's my plan. Special events warrant some flexibility in the approach, if one feels they can handle it - I know not everyone here is comfortable with that and that it certainly isn't for everyone - but I think it will work for quite a few of us.

@JulieAL1969 what ever your decision is this weekend you will come out of this better and with a great knowledge of yourself. Don’t stress it too much.
And since it is two days away now, how does everyone plan on handling Amateur Hour ... I mean St. Patrick’s Day?
As i’ve stated before, I personally hate this holiday. I plan on going to the gym in the morning and staying home with my wife the rest of the day.7 -

I'm hoping we are celebrating at home. I have a corn beef to cook along with all the fixings, and I googled best movies to watch on St Patrick's Day. Crossing my fingers hubby feels the same or .... I'm guessing I'll be a DD, but only for a couple of hours ... Lol... I don't think I could handle anymore.7 -
