Your welcome i like that idea. I luv outside too.1 -

@JenT304 - I'm a moderator and really glad you shared that video. The scariest thing for me was how they talked about people who aren't alcoholics -- not even close -- and who aren't "dependent" can have serious liver disease. They also measured out some beer and wine to illustrate how most people are drinking a lot more than they think they are. The nitty gritty of alcohol "units" and how little is really "safe" to drink was fascinating. Thanks for passing on. I'll be thinking about this for a long time.4

I'm going to try to start incorporating fun exercise on Sunday's now that the weather is getting better. Followed up with a moderate treat whatever that maybe. Example; hike/lunch or bike ride/breakfast with or without a drink. Something physical... But out of my normal workout. It doesn't have to be a all day thing, but just a nice outing to get out of the house for a little bit. Good luck4 -
Great idea!2

My lil awkward win today.....around 5pm started feeling really tired and bored....thought of going to gym but was too uninspired. Decided I need to kill time by drinking.....resisted, debated, fought, gave in.....and finally gave up....got in my car and drove to the liquor store, parked in the lot......then a moment of clarity....if i could only drive away to the next lot, maybe i have time to think, drove to the next lot, parked, and checked my phone.....something said drive away....drove away and came home, made a healthy dinner and took a shower
Well done! In WW they'd say if you can just put off eating whatever junk it is you want for 10 or 15 min the craving will pass. Perhaps it's the same with alcohol. The title for your book, "Driving yourself sober".
Thanks for the title idea4 -

follow up to the story, i woke up and felt great. i knew i would wake up feeling bad if i had given in yesterday. i did say, great job, to myself, as it is important to recognize the victories and we dont do that often enough12 -
My thoughts for you as suggestions is that if the reason u r drinking is feeling down then think of what u enjoy doing,..ie : sport , sight seeing, .. anything maybe somthing u have never done b4 and focus on how your going to achieve it.
Just a suggestion...
This is great advice. Focusing on an interest is the best. And i really like the idea of maybe picking up something you haven’t done!

What if you volunteer on Sundays? Find a place that needs volunteers. I bet the blues will be swept aside. I always feeling better after I help someone.
My sister told me about a site that you can make cards for children who are ill. She says when she feels down, she makes some cards. And writes some inspiring messages. You can do this from your home whether you're crafty or not:)

That’s awesome. It’s true, you never wake up and regret NOT drinking. You only regret the opposite. It’s weird how sometimes it’s easy to not drink and other times it takes so much willpower to not.4 -
I'm only 8 minutes into this documentary and am already terrified. But knowledge is power so I thought I would share it with my team here.

This scares the crap out of me. Has anyone had one of these liver function tests?

Me too.. I past it on to the family and their friends0 -
I don't post often, but I read every single post from all of you. I backslid this month, been going over my goal a lot more than 50% of the time. The amazing thing is that while I was discouraged at the beginning of the month, I've actually been encouraged the last week or so. I've stopped opening a beer because "its time" at night. If I don't want a beer yet, I don't have it. That might not seem like much, but its huge to me. I actually drank 1 under my goal one night. Thank you all for being here and letting me go through this with you.6

That's called listening to your body, that's good. Everything in moderation. Sometimes a little bit is ok. Some people take small amounts for medicine.
Im not sure if I've got your whole point but they say wine is good for this, not that i believe everything people say.. beer is probably good for some things too.
If u can moderate that great. Lucky you, some cant
It nice to have u with us too.. your helping us as well.1 -
I found this today and i immediately thought abt this thread and some reasons why some drink, I wondered if it might help any one out there thats quitely stuggling ...

Lots of us drink seltzer water with a splash of something sweet. Cranberry juice, pink grapefruit, lemonade etc.6 -
I've just found this board. I'm so impressed with the resolve and all the great support and suggestions. I've been fighting to reduce my alcohol intake for years. It has been slow and there has been backsliding, but I am getting it under control.
I am making a point to measure how much I drink because it has been too easy just to "pour a little more" in the glass. I also started putting stickers in my calendar for completely drink-free days. I'm very visual and loved to see each month have more and more happy faces. Sounds childish when I write it, but it really worked for me.
Oh, and I love the "damp" idea rather than dry. For people who can keep it under control, damp sounds so much less final.
Happy March!10 -
BTW my avatar is drinking grapefruit juice this month. LOL5

It's said that no matter what your loss, someone else has gone through more than you have. Losing a son after having him with you for so many years is terrible, yet we do have a loss in common that not many can understand.
Keep coming here. We are here for you.
I am sorry for your loss as well. Although so hard to lose my guy after so many years, the time went so fast. 2 years is hard, too. That would have gone even faster. That is a heartbreak as well. Yes, we understand that level of pain of that kind of loss. It is a pain like no other.5 -
I am loving your new picture @JulieAL1969. You look so refreshed and happy!2

These posts are incredibly moving. To those of you that have lost children, I am so sorry and send my love. My late and very wise father used to say, "everyone carries an invisible bucket of tears", meaning we cannot see each other's pain but it is there. I hope this thread is a refuge and comfort to all that come here. It certainly has been for me.
Thank you for your very kind words!3 -
I am sorry to all who have lost children. It is an incredibly hard journey to be on. May we all be blessed in the midst of deep sorrow.4

Yes, I don't want to use alcohol as a coping means for anything anymore. Even to unwind. Be gone with you, I am tired of you !!!4

I've always drunk, moderately. However, due to stress from multiple directions, last 6 months of 2017 my regular weekday included coming home and cracking a beer, then another one, sometimes a third. Beer was a reward of making it through the day. Weekends were beer and / or wine. I also smoke so it irritated my throat and it was sore all the time.
In January, I started a very low carb diet. I don't drink beer anymore, if I want something comforting when I come back from work I just make myself dinner and eat it earlier. And my plan is to fit wine in just over the weekends. So far it worked, more or less. I drink wine 3-4 days per week, and moderately. I love wine and I enjoy it so much more when I just have a couple of glasses, with a homemade cheese platter or dark chocolate.
I'm flying on Friday evening and I plan to skip the standard glass of wine!10 -

I have lived through all this with my first husband, that died from cirrhosis of the liver.
