@rheddmobile I'm really sorry for you that you got so much bad advice from the doctors! And talking to your husband instead of you is super rude. In addition "stop running permanently because you might someday get arthritis" - that sounds like the dentist I had that tried to convince me for three years in a row that a certain tooth would "develop caries very soon". Guess the crystal ball was wrong, since this is now more than 10 years ago and the tooth is still fine. So I wouldn't buy arthritis medication yet
I hope the steroid shot won't have any negative side effects, you've been through enough with this already!
@Marissaxzxzxz Welcome back to running and to this thread
@PastorVincent LOL, I can't believe you got pulled aside for running in black! Today I was also wearing a (nearly) black shirt and black shorts for running. But my shoes were glo pink, that probably saved me from being arrested
@marisap2010 Evil shorts! But at least you've got new shoes, yay
@MobyCarp I'm so excited for you! I hope Boston goes well and you can finish strong!
@ddmom0811 I just bought a jar of protein powder yesterday. And maybe I should track my food again. I'm fine weight-wise, but I also suspect that most days I don't get enough protein.
@sarahthes Eeeek, snow? Don't send it my way please! We are planning barbecue on Sunday with colleagues. So far the weather forecast is 21°C sun
@karllundy I have at least once gone for a 32km/20mi run on a Sunday, when the new shoes I tried on Saturday left me with multiple blisters. It hurt for the first quarter of the time, after that I didn't really notice them anymore.
But I might not be the sanest person to ask for advice about this.
TMI: I have also popped blisters with a sterile needle when they were so large that I couldn't have put on my shoes otherwise.

I'm still in the "take it easy on the knee" phase, combined with a "crazy time at work" phase. So not a lot of running in April yet. The month is halfway over and I'm only at 36.9 km! I think 2018 I ran 180km in April, there's no way I'll come even close this month.
But I've started a new fitnessblender program. Called "Fitnessblender Strong". I've done five workout videos so far, four of them were with dumbells. So I'm hoping that means I will get some muscle gain out of it
I already got a lot of soreness so far. I really need to work on timing them better.
The first lower body workout was on Saturday evening, then Sunday morning I went for a longish run, my glutes complaining every step. Upper body workout on Monday evening, climbing on Tuesday with arms that didn't want to lift higher than shoulder-level... Today I've done an upper-body workout in the morning before work, and a short interval run in the afternoon, that combination worked better.

The link is blocked at my work. How is the weather?
I could see the video. Looks like it was raining, with puddles and minor mud on a road that appears to be designed for vehicle. I infer deeper mud on real trails. I was just thinking that maybe I get rain like that for Boston, only with paved roads; then the runners went past. From the way the runners were dressed, I'm pretty sure it was colder there than is forecast for Hopkinton on Monday.0 -
@garygse I have the Garmin Vivoactive 3. I can see all my zones in my app. I know I can see my current HR while running.
Looking at my last run I was in Zone 5 most of the time. I will be walking in zone 1-3 LOL1 -
6 PM on a rest day. Packed my suitcase at noon. Periodically during the afternoon I noticed something I should have packed, opened the suitcase, put it in. I'll be following a strategy of check one large suitcase, take my laptop case with computer and anything I absolutely need in transit into the cabin with me. Past trips to races have convinced me that I don't want to haul any more than I have to between gates at a connection. So if I need more than will fit in a carry on (and I do), it's go big and check one.
And now I wait. Alarm is set. Bag is packed, but will probably be re-opened for minor stuff at least twice between now and rolling out tomorrow morning. Sister is safely at her hotel, and will be running the BAA 5K when I'm messing with the airport. Sigh. If I'd known far enough in advance, I'd have paid for another night in the hotel and flown out today.
This is the part of taper that really drives me nuts. There's nothing I can do between now and morning to make things go any faster, or to expedite what I need to get done on the other end tomorrow; I just have to wait.9 -

I'll be wearing my 2010 BAA 5k race shirt at my parkrun tomorrow morning.
The weather forecast is currently saying temps in the 50s and rain. But it's been changing so much I don't think anyone really knows what it's going to be like.
I'll be in the crowd on Heartbreak Hill cheering you and the other runners and willing you up that hill and onward to the finish.5 -

After this morning's snow the sun came out and it got really nice out. Bit of wind that seemed awful at first but was okay once I was warmed up. Still a bit sore/stiff from last weekend but less than I thought I'd be. Knee & ankle on my left leg feel a bit touchy but are easing after I took an extra rest day yesterday. I have a 5K race next weekend that has me a bit concerned about the knee & ankle but I plan to take it easy and not go for anything silly like a PR since I'm donating blood on Monday as well.

My diet is a little off kilter and my calf and hamstring are tighter than I'd like, but all in all should be a good race.
Could be some mud and the start will be a little chilly. Ithetwose, nothing that I haven't prepped for. OMG I'm gonna run 25k!
@fitoverfortymom Good luck with your 25 km race tomorrow!Ran about 4.5 miles yesterday, which is the longest run that I have (recently) done, and I'm pretty proud of myself. I ran the entire time, albeit at a 12 minute pace, but still managing to run nonetheless lol. I'm hoping within the next few months to get my average pace down to an 11, maybe even 10 minute mile (by the end of the summer) while increasing my endurance. Hoping to run at least a 5K today if I can find some time. And some new trails. *fingers crossed*

@jine1989 Bravo on your long run!!
@garygse Good luck with your HM race!!
Thinking of @7lenny7 and @MNLittleFinn out there at Zumbro.
Saturday is "National Reach as High as You Can" Day. Need I say more?
Heh, I will add that it's also "National Pecan Day", fellow run nuts.6 -

I started an actual weight training program today instead of the random “Hey, I’ll do this machine!” plan I tend to follow.
Good luck to everyone racing this weekend! The weather at Zumbro looks gross, but I am crossing my fingers that the forecasters are wrong and it clears up!

I’m so behind on posts again! I’m still going by time rather than distance. I just finished week 6 of c25k. I know I’m supposed to go slow in order to build up endurance but I speed up sometimes ... it kind of feels like my calf muscles get a break when I go a little bit faster. It could be my imagination. I also have a preferred number of times my feet strike. It just feels better at a certain rhythm but I have trouble sustaining that at much slower speeds. Still, I know that’s how this program works and I want to stick with the recommendations so I actually end up finishing.6

Two days of running in Austin done. Today I had to wait until the afternoon, and it was HOT. I tried not to complain given how glad I was to be out of the cold, but I wasn't quite prepared to jump from freezing temps to mid 80s and humid. Still, enjoyed it for the most part. Travel back home tomorrow so probably won't get a run in.
Good luck to this weekend' racer!

You were running in my neck of the woods.
It was pretty gross yesterday. The heat and humidity started to get to me towards the end of my long run. I have to get my body adapted to running in the heat again.

Great run this morning! After this week was such a struggle, my expectations were low. But I did 3.5 miles in just under 50 minutes and felt FANTASTIC doing it. Now I feel ready for my 5k a week from today.
April goal: 40 miles
Today: 3.5 miles
Total: 19.0 miles9 -

The one that looks like a pictograph of a mountain peak 4th from the right is for adding pictures.
From a smart phone app, sorry can't help you there as my phone is corporate and MFP/FB etc are all blocked.

@zerlinna From a phone it's the same, unless you don't use apple (UA and apple must be bed buddies) .
