My maternal grandparents and my parents are the only two I have ever been personally involved with. My grandparents owned close to 100 acres, plus a house and it's contents. My brother had helped my grandfather from the time he was a boy, cut lumber and sell it to pay the property taxes. We had a family meeting in the late 80's where we had to tell them our wishes. My Mom and I said Harley (my brother) should have all of the property as we for sure wouldn't be going out to cut wood. When my Grandfather died in '97 my Grandmother didn't want anything for any of us to deal with so she put the property and house in my brothers name, her car in my Mom's name. In 2005 she was sick and I was called home, but she made it through. She then went to the bank and put my Mom and Brother as joint account holders and had her name removed completely. She did this so that the "tax man" couldn't take anything. She told my Mom and Brother that whatever was in the account when she passed was mine and my Mom's, my brother already had his inheritance. It wasn't a lot, but it was very easily handled when she passed.
My parents never had a will or a power of attorney until the week before my Dad passed when my brother and I pushed them. They wrote the will out so that immediately upon Dad's passing my Brother was the power of attorney over my Mom's health and financial. Little did we know that he would have to invoke that power within 2 years of my Dad's passing. He did the financial first and then the medical. It is all done and over with now, except for when my Mom passes, my brother and I will have to pay for her funeral as there is no money for her to do it with.
I have seen families ruined though without and sometimes with the proper wills and such.
Thank you Machka for making us think of this. I'm incredibly sad for you and your husband for your reasoning for putting it out there though.

Hi ladies:- On this topic;
My dear old Dad is now 91 and is living in a nursing home. He has Parkinson's disease and lewi body dementia. My brother and I are his legal deputies (UK law) and have control of his finances. The poor old dear would be heartbroken if he knew his hard earned money was being spent on looking after him. Fortunately, or unfortunately, he does not realise where he is, most of the time he thinks he's still at the family home. It costs nearly a thousand pounds a week for him to live there!
I no longer own a property or have a substantial bank balance, so, have made a will leaving anything that's left to be shared between my 3 darling daughters.
Growing old is not fun!
Happy days!
All the best

Quick skim as I was behind. Traveling and bad internet. Net is back and I am nor in Nevada. The drive from Utah to here was BEAUTIFUL! It was a scenic road through the Dixie National Forest. Lots of trees and Mountain View’s. Reminded me of the Kangamangus Highway trip I took with my mom a couple of summers before in New Hampshire, only bigger mountains. No pics though as I was driving the car with a nervous dog watching for DH in the motorhome, sight seeing, and watching traffic! A lot of traffic for a road that closes in winter due to snow!
The Utah Park was nice but too expensive at $35 a night. You could stay for 7 days at the price of 6 but still too much. The Nevada parks with the Nevada pass are free or $10 a night if you have electricity. Much more reasonable.

Hi ladies, glad to find this group. I’ve lost 15 pounds since April with about 40 more to go. My goal is patience so I don’t give up. I’m 54 and still getting a cycle.8

These guys are everywhere here! Friendly too!

Lisa: Your quilt is beautiful!
Rebecca: Your new haircut suits you. WTG!!! I love the photo of the deer from your window. Perhaps that will help you feel grounded. I remember how much you enjoyed watching the elk when you lived on the north Oregon Coast.
CSSJ09: You seem to e a woman on a mission. Good for you! We cleaned out our storage unit a few weeks ago to make room for the RV. It was an amazing experience. We had glass panels that we wanted to donate, but no one would take them. I'm afraid that they'll just have to go to the recycling center. Reuse is best, recycle ins next best, in my opinion.
Barbara: My glasses are also progressive hidden bifocals. I guess I didn't mention that before. I love them. I'm beginning to notice a reduction of stress in my left eye, now that it isn't being pushed to see too clearly. I may keep this lens in. I need more time to decide. I still have the original and can switch them if I choose. I've been advised to give this one a few weeks before I make up my mind.
Heather: I am not surprised that your speech went well. You are a thoughtful and articulate woman. I would have been a bit nervous, too. Congratulations! Thanks for sharing the photos.
Mary: I'll keep your daughter in my prayers.
Michele: My daughter also lives with her MIL. It is particularly bad for her DH who doesn't feel respected in that household. She made that choice because she wanted to be a stay at home mom but she eventually went back to work. She is hoping to move soon. She is currently the breadwinner and that is unlikely to change. She has a job that is fulfilling, and her DH will work at home and be the childcare provider if everything works out as she hopes. Wish them luck.
Pip: Your helmet is vital. I'm glad you replaced the old one. Love the colors of both. What is the date of the MS ride on Whidbey Island? I want to keep track of it. It would be wonderful if we could see it in person, and reservations at an RV Park would be essential.
Yesterday was busy and DH is cooked our dinner while I worked on power washing the deck. I managed to ride, and get some chores done at home. We also had a lovely phone chat with our son.
The chores at home are on the big side. Yesterday I power washed the outdoor rug that we use with the RV. It looks great. And I started power washing our deck. There is plenty more to do today, and a much smaller upper deck as well.

Morning/afternoon ladies
Wedding was nice but too late of a night for me,left before they cut the cake...saw that the woman who runs the senior center in town has taken another job, left her an email and she says she didn't think it was posted yet..I might go for it and apply...I do very well with the eldery and I'm a good planner..will call the town selectwoman tomorrow and throw my hat in the ring..will see what happens..
Tonight meeting an old friend of mine a few towns away his brother plays in a blues band...so that will be fun.8 -
Allie - GO for it! You're so good with your DFIL, and know how to do such wonderful things for and with the elderly. Most importantly, you CARE.

Allie ... perfect position for you!
Mary ... continued prayers for your daughter ...
Heather ... love the expressions on the kids' faces!
Beautiful day here. Continuing to prepare food for the week. Will be picking up my OS for the afternoon.
Margaret .... we've talked about proper nutrition for mental and physical well-being ... I saw my OS earlier today at church. It was the first time in a few years that he was able to maintain posture (he's in a wheelchair), had a bright look (not wary) on his face and was engaged in thoughtful conversation with several people who stopped by to speak with him. What changed in a week's time? Hydration and diet. We have not yet put him back on his BP meds (doctors took him off because they were known to aggravate kidney function ... but his BP is normal! I have had to write out every meal for his aides and made them log how much he is drinking, etc ... but the point is good food and hydration are more important than we realize.
Feeling positive today.

Beth you remind how important hydration is too. I took an two hour nap yesterday. I was so tired. Now looking back I think part of it was dehydration. We are having a hot summer for Minnesota and I need to remember to drink more water. I had started putting orange in my water bottle. It is stainless steel and the top comes off so I can the orange slices into the bottle.
Beth I am also happy to hear what a different a better diet and hydration is making for your son. It helps me become more determined to stick to a better eating plan. My BMI has dropped from 29 to 27 and I have lost 2 inches off my waist so besides feeling better I am noticing positive physical changes. It does help keep the temptations at bay. My new walking buddy has made good changes to her diet too and I notice the difference in her too.

Had a dream I was on my scale and it read 290 lbs!! Eeek!! So today I got on and it read 237.2. I have been floating between 235-239 for a couple weeks. I shall persevere!💗
Yep, I think since its our own backyard, seeing these wild creatures up close, is better than seeing them from a field further away. Saw a raccoon too! So there is a huge hole in our side yard. The pest lady said its too big for a rodent, so maybe an old rabbit hole. I have yet to see a rabbit.
Son bought us pizza. I had parts of my slice. It was a stuffed crust! We were very gracious, but when son was working in the garage we whispered to each other the dislike of the pizza... It was the consistency of the cheese that was weird. He also bought three boxes of Whoppers, and a big bag of M & M's! It was because we have let him borrow the car, and he's being nice. I had about 10 Whoopers, and had awful heartburn last night! Today is drinking lots of fluids!
Ooh got the icemaker in the frig to work. Course we hate the water so whatever we put the ice cubes in will taste off in a bit.😝
Getting nervous for Tues procedure. I am such a whimp!
Have a nice Sunday y'all!!
Hugs all round💗
