Life has been getting in the way of running, so no miles logged since Saturday.
In better news, however...Look Ma, new shoes!18 -
I'm coming down with a cold. Scratchy nose, watery eyes and sneezing. Also feel achy. Might be allergies but I don't really get them. I feel really run down. Been a crap week with some personal stuff going on.
Oh no. ‘‘Tis the season though. Early night, wake up better. And sorry about the other crappy stuff.1 -
Hi everyone, so my muddy posterior photo from the weekend’s event is a finalist to win some Inov8 trail shoes. For those if you on Facebook, could you please vote for me (I’m Mary if you haven’t figured that bit out). Link here: https://www.facebook.com/917010361675854/posts/1967174123326134/
Thanks so much!!11 -
I can't believe it's already September 12th and I didn't post a goal (or anything else) in this thread!
Work stuff interfered with my internet time...
So far, I also didn't run as much as I would have liked ("lost" a weekend to travelling), but still a bit. 42.4 km for the month so far. Summer is trying to make a comeback, so I have to put up with high temperatures again - I was really hoping for autumn. At least the evenings cool down faster than in July and August, so it's not quite as bad.
Maybe I can try to catch up tonight *fingers crossed* - I'll try my best, but you guys have been super talkative as usual, so there's a lot to read8 -
@juliet3455 WTG with the race! I vote for 369/793. Can't believe you are having summer snow!!! That's crazy!
@Avidkeo I hope you are feeling better today!
@ContraryMaryMary Done. It looks like you're tied for first place at the moment! Good luck!1 -
Woke up late, couldn't find Nipeaze, slow drivers on the way over to run area=no tempo run this morning. 2.26 miles of w3d1 c25k though with the second mile at 11:04😆 so made at least one goal from yesterday. 22.7/60.5 for the month.
ETA: 72 degrees with 97% humidity. To all facing Florence prayers. @HonuNui hope Olivia doesn't dump too much on y'all.6 -
no run yesterday sleep, slept thru alarms this morning.
lawn or run lawn or run. days like these make me wish for a power mowerOkay, definitely have peroneal tendinitis (or however it is spelled). No running for
me this week until I can see the physio on Friday so I'm just going to lurk here grumpily.
i get it. i didn't really believe in the benefits of kt tape but one of my races has it for free. it made a huge difference. it is worth a try imho. i had no pain that day (half marathon with lots of hills)
here is a link to how i tape (though do whatever your physio tell you to do. i am not a doctor)5 -

The main body of the storm missed us by a whisker.
Still have a layer of ice on the ground and vehicles. Hopefully it gets warm enough to melt it today.
We had early ice storm last year and the ice stayed on the trails for 2 months, needed skates not running shoes.8 -

I second the KT tape. I was a doubter but when plantar fasciitis popped up I gave in. You can actually feel it working. When I feel my arches getting tired I tape again. But yah, not a doctor so talk with them too lol2 -

If someone had told me 3 months ago, I'd be running 7 miles before work...I probably would have laughed at them. Getting out the door at 5 to get my workout in so early in the morning, I didn't think I'd be doing that, but here I am! I'm honestly very grateful to be able to run and enjoy the wind in my face and scenery passing me by. I never thought running longer distances would be enjoyable, but today I really hit a nice stride and never even needed to take any walk breaks. It was quite remarkable in the short time I've been consistently running. I think I've finally grasped the concept of running easy on easy days. And my easy days are slowly getting a little bit quicker in time as the months go on.
I remember thinking when I made my last turn today as I had 2 miles back to the house, that I could do this. Like, I knew for a fact I could book it the rest of the way and still have energy left over. It was such an amazing feeling. And I had been struggling with my longer runs up until recently. So, I had that extra burst of adrenaline knowing I had done so well up to that point. I finished my last mile a whole minute faster than the rest of the miles completed.
Super happy.

9/5: 4.5 miles
9/6: 5.5 miles

Fall is definitely not here yet. It was so hot and muggy this morning. I had to get up extra early today and it was already 73F at 4:45 this morning. It was so humid (96%) and the dew point was 70 so when I walked outside you could just see water droplets hovering in the air. I really thought this run was going to suck. But it ended up being a really good run. I had just gone about a quarter of a mile when a dog started barking at me. I've never seen a dog in that yard before so it really startled me. I wasn't sure if it was loose or not. I thought it was but it never came out of the yard. They may have had him tied out (even though that is illegal). So I get to the highway and I'm thinking this is going to be a tough one and then I see a skunk. Luckily he does not see me and there is no traffic so I just veered out into the road until I was far enough past him. It's funny though because after that I was on pretty high alert. I stopped feeling like I was dragging and just started running. I got 4.8 miles done and my average pace was 10:44 which I felt was really good. I've had good paces for my last couple of runs, but it has been so nice with temps in the 60's and a lower dew point. As I was running this morning I was thinking about the skunk that I saw and wondering how many times I have run past skunks that I never even noticed. Probably a lot more than the ones I have seen.
@ContraryMaryMary I voted for you! You were in the lead when I voted. I hope you win the shoes.
2018 races:
5/19/18: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon - 2:43:59.7. - 2nd place AG
11/10/18: Wags & Whiskers 5K10 -
Been an insane month so far...only 12 days in! 500 posts behind, I'm not EVEN going to try reading through them to "catch up". Been fighting exhaustion and insomnia, I know they kind of go hand-in-hand, but this is more than usual. Just had a yearly check up a few months ago, bloodwork was all great, so not sure what is going on.
Here in Sarasota, we have Benderson Park. It is a huge facility that has had numerous sports functions, including ITU triathlon, rowing Olympic trials...huge. There is a track around the lake that is 3 miles long & I have, for years said "One day, I'm gonna run around that". Most of the time there is an event I'm eligible for, I'm working Well, my time down here is ticking away, and finally Universe has cooperated! Signed up for a 5K next weekend!

Today I got to run 6.22 miles along the Kenilworth Trail, around Cedar Lake, back to the trail, and home via Lake of the Isles. This was my first 10K-ish long run waaaaaaaay back in July, and I liked the route enough that I ran it again the next weekend. The lakes are beautiful but my favorite part of the run is actually along the trail along the railroad tracks where the city has planted a prairie reclamation garden and there’s a great view of the downtown skyline. It’s much less crowded than the lakes, but there were a good number of bike commuters this AM. Thank goodness for the divided trail!
I set my watch for 6.2 miles but I guess that was a hair short of 10K, which is fine, since my goal for the run was 9.75K to earn this lovely shiny thing. This was the first virtual run I’ve done and I think I like the concept. I was planning on running about 5 miles today, so upping that by a mile wasn’t a big deal but still a nice extra push. I like the idea of supporting good causes, I’m a sucker for collectables and love the design of the medals they offer, and the Facebook communities seem pretty chill so far. This will always be my number one community, of course, but there’s room for more.

Okay, definitely have peroneal tendinitis (or however it is spelled). No running for me this week until I can see the physio on Friday so I'm just going to lurk here grumpily.
@sarahthes Oh no! Rest and take care of it! This put me in a boot for a month because I ignored it until I finished my marathon in December. I figured if I didn’t go to the doctor he couldn’t tell me not to run the marathon I had been training my butt off for. Moral of the story? Don’t be me!
The tendinitis still flares up from time to time but my PT guy gave me some good exercises that help. My left ankle has weakness from nerve damage which cause my foot to roll in when I run. Physical therapy was very helpful with this in my experience.3 -

Same, same, and same! It's so much fun when the easy runs are easy, the wind is blowing, and the scenery is lovely - high five!3 -
Thanks for the support everyone! I'm hoping since the pain is minor now (it did hurt enough I took ibuprofen the first 2 days) and I only ran on it once after it started hurting that I'll be cleared to run by my next race Oct 7. I will drop down to the 5K or 10K quite happily (had been planning to do so regardless).
It is flipping cold out as @juliet3455 said. He has snow and I don't yet but it is cold enough to snow and is drizzly so I'm expecting to look up from work and see it at some point today.
I slept like crap last night so I'm pretty sure even if my foot was fine I wouldn't be running today.5 -
By the end of the day, the battery is already low, so probably not enough for music. I can't get lost, same route all the time. And if i fall? Rub some dirt on it and get back up... 😉
I have an iPhone with a mophie - which I keep snapped right onto the phone. It's basically a back-up battery that recharges the phone. I love it and it has been a life saver many times - whether on my bike or long runs or whenever the battery runs low. I just flip a little switch and presto - I'm back to 100% battery.
