First day back running since vacation. Luckily my training plan had a short run scheduled for today.
I am out of town again for my daughter's rock climbing competition, so I figured I would be on a treadmill for this one. Luckily I packed some cold weather clothes, too. The treadmill in the hotel gym was broken and this hotel also happened to be in an area I would actually feel safe running outside in. The only thing I forgot was my ear cover and it was 33F when I set out. My ears were totally numbby the time I got back but my other layers were perfect! File this one away for future use!!
About a quarter of a mile from the hotel was a park with a crushed granite running trail around a river! Perfect!! And so much nicer than what I get at home.

Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
A nice, clear, cold day for a run. 18 degrees F and a light breeze from the northeast. Is it my imagination or is it harder to breathe when the temperature is in the teens?7 -

7.55/20 miles complete
It was 38F, rainy, and windy, but it overall was a nice run. This was the first
time it has been cool enough to break out the gloves and ear cover.
I’m trying to scope out running areas for when I go to visit hubby in England at the end of the month. I do see a Parkrun one of the days I am there, so I may see if I can make it over to it.7 -

Temp was 31F/-1C with a light wind when I left home. I debated wearing nylon pants over my tights and decided against it. During the warmup, I almost went back and put them on. In the end, I think it would have been okay to wear them but it wasn't necessary.
At about 1.5 miles, my ankle felt a little off. That was replaced with slight objections from my achilles, then my other knee, then that quad. Hopefully that's normal, as nothing feels too bad after foam rolling and stretching.7 -

@ContraryMaryMary - I am pretty sure you could put a collar and leash on that and take it for a run!
@avidkeo - I agree with @elise470. Sometimes we just need a break, taking a couple of days off and doing something else. You may find yourself really wanting to get back out there for a run after a few days.

Didn't do my long run today. I woke up feeling like I had a slug in my throat. Or like I was a slug myself? Definitely sluggishness involved. First thing I did after breakfast was burn some cookies (nope, not bake, burn). Brightest thought of the week: "I should close the kitchen door so that the smoke doesn't get in the living room. .... Hang on, smoke?"
It was afternoon when I finally managed to get outside. First 15min was dry and windy, then back to rain and windy. I walked a ridiculous amount of time during my run. My nose was running more then me And the tissues I had stuffed in my pocket turned into a wet mess in the rain, so I ended up using my gloves to wipe my nose. Ick! They went in the washing machine right away when I got home. Which was after 10.5km in 90min. As I said, a *lot* of unmotivated walking.
Then I started cooking an after-run meal. Had the strained tomatos in a pan and waited for them to start sizzling before adding the pre-cooked chicken meet from the fridge. And waited... until I finally realized I hadn't turned on the stove 🤦♀️ I think the slug ate my brain.
Maybe I'll do some lower body strength training later to make up for the missing kilometres...15 -
I’m sorry I haven’t been around the last few weeks, but I’m still alive and running!!
I ran the Busch Gardens Christmas Town dash 8k last Sunday. It was warm and misty and fun. I finished in 42:38 and finished 6th in my age group. This is by far my favorite medal just because it is so cute!
I had been debating whether or not to attempt a marathon distance as I approached the end of my training plan... I was torn because the plan only had me run 18 miles as my longest run. I was really doubting that I could make the jump from 18 to 26.2. Well, what convinced me to give it a go was the fact that if I restarted a new training plan it would put me past my 41st birthday. I really wanted to say I ran a marathon at 40...
So this happened Friday
I did it! I felt pretty good, though I did walk a few times. I fueled with 24oz Gatorade, 1 gu, and one packet honey stingers. My stomach didn’t revolt on me and I finished in time to get my kids from school 🙂
2 days later I don’t even feel sore, so I’m thrilled that I must have done something right!!

@Avidkeo i think we all lose motivation from time to time. I know i do. There's nothing wrong with a break, and when this funky no-wanna-run mood hits, all you can do is embrace it hoping its the result of a subconscious need. Go for walks, swim, have a bike ride or try to anything until it passes.
Worst thing for me is having a great run and expecting all of them to be great. Yet in reality, 1 in 20+ are great runs.
I'm currently trying to get over the fear of running. I'm afraid if i run, it'll hurt again. So no run, no hurt. But then I'm not training like i want too. And I think I'm just waiting for this year to be over so i can magically start anew.
Good luck. Do some soul searching. Maybe you can figure out the where the wall is and plot to climb it. If you figure it out, please share because we all hit this from time to time and it'd be nice to have some insight how to manage it.

Thanks for this. I really needed it. As you say I expect all my runs to be great but honestly they are usually a slog lol. Weta zombies... No thanks haha. We had one on our wood pile a year or so ago. Didn't go near it for ages, just let him take over. I like and admire them - at a distance!3 -

So i think part of my funk is being tired. I realised I haven't changed my alarm from the height of my HM training - I was getting up at 520am to fit the longer distances in before work. Of course now I don't need that extra half hour anymore. It's a lot easier to be keen for a run at 550am, and that extra 30 mins makes a difference.
So today was a gentle 5.5k and I actually enjoyed it. I have 2 days left of this challenge and only need 5k to get the target of 60k.5 -

Thanks everyone! Now I've had a few hours for it to sink in and it's dawning on me what a huge accomplishment that was for me, I just want to say thank you to everyone here for all the support, encouragement, enabling, gentle cajoling and quick kicks up the backside you've provided over these 4 or 5 months since I went crazy and signed up for it!
@zeesparrow thanks, I have always absolutely loathed photos but that is one I will happily live with and show off! I was happy, mostly that it was over lol but also that I managed to speed up and pass a few people in the last half kilometre so I wasn't dead last :-)
@Avidkeo It feels freakin awesome. I don't think I'll be moving much tomorrow mind, but it feels awesome. However I really think I need my head examining cause I've already mapped out my training plan for the next one!
