Sounds to me like this is the place for you to be if you & your hubby have committed to an AF 2019. Thank you for the warm welcome, all!
Honestly one of our favorite YouTubers (husband and wife from Finland) did a dry year in 2018 just for health and to see if it would be difficult for them. So we were inspired by them and thought we would try the same for 2019.
Yes, I do think it's partly FOMO that has me a little disturbed at times! And it's very true that the wineries & breweries will always be there. They have never been my top destination so I'm hoping the dry year (or more) will just reinforce that.
Welcome!
Do you miss the drinking or the social aspect? If it is the social aspect of wineries and breweries and you have self-control, you should still keep going. If you dont wanna attract attention, you can even order a beer or a wine and not drink it. Nobody will care. Obviously, it will require a lot of discipline.
So many of social events revolve around alcohol. But that is changing gradually, thanks to this thread. A day will come you will have to go out to the balcony to drink.4 -
Also, the heck's a FOMO? I know MOFO but never seen FOMO6

@laurenq1991 - I had to "urban dictionary" FOMO - I assume it is - Fear of Missing Out. Correct? Also, the heck's a FOMO? I know MOFO but never seen FOMO
Yes it means fear of missing out. I thought it was more common terminology.

Happy Sunday all, well I chose to drink Thurs then into Friday cuz I just felt so crappy,it didn't help, couple of triggers which sshouldnt have been a big deal were on Wednesday my youngest daughter in Portland got rear ended really hard by a pickup truck, she's fine but her new car got totalled,my nerves were so shot all that night, the next day at work the old bartender from my old haunt came in for highlights and for some reason old memories just kept popping into my head so I struggled in my head all day and finally gave in to stopping for beer on the way home, ugh, all it did was make me lazy, tired and grouchy, completely not worth blowing my 61 day streak over! Dumb as always.Welcome to the newcomers, stick to your goals no matter what, the self defeat feeling is the worst of all, letting other people down sucks but letting ourselves down is just awful11

“But I soon learned that drinking never elevated anything. Mostly I ended up face down in my own misery. After I got sober, I found beauty everywhere. I noticed things that had never caught my attention before like the birds that visit my patio, the summer sky full of clouds and kind interactions between people. Seek out some beauty. Visit a museum. Go to a bookstore and leaf through some home design books. Drop by a botanical garden. Straighten out that print on your wall that has been off-kilter for months. Visit photography websites. Beauty is all around you, and it multiplies. Invite some beauty in to remind yourself what a gift this sober life is.” - Meredith Bell
@whitpauly Wishing you a wonderful Sunday and I understand when you have been on a great streak and alcohol gets in the way. Here is to a refresh!
@rubyred427 Smart lady planning ahead. Prayers to your friend. 🙏
@jonno_83 nice!6 -
@whitpauly Sending you hugs. Focus on the wonderful 61 day achievement. Don’t focus on two bad days. We are human. Sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves, but we need to remember this is a journey , ups and downs are normal. Here’s to day 1 and maybe this time, don’t even count the days. Just take one day and make it a good one.
@Jonno_83 Congrats. You are doing well!
@Fitness327wk I love the whole quote. “Beauty is all around you, and it multiplies.” This is lovely.6 -

Haha!,.. true. I can see that happening eventually. Just like health foods. There's a provision now for people who choose the better thing for them. e.g. Lactose free milk at McDonald's etc
So yeah,.. smoking booths and drinking booths. I guess the drinking one will have taxi bays beside them..5 -
I’m 9 years AF here. After a while you loose your taste for it. It makes me sick now just the thought of it.11

Made it through the get together at the brewery without having a drink!!! Oh my gosh it was tempting though!!!! So many new beers on tap! 😭😭 damn that deliciousness!! I feel though, if I can make it through that, i'm on a pretty good path. So, i'm pretty proud of myself for that.12

Thanks! I really think I just miss it as an "activity" option, if that makes sense. Usually when I went to those places it was just with my husband anyway, and not anyone else. We were typically focused on tasting and left pretty shortly. I travel some for work but alcohol is rarely part of the equation with those trips, either. So not a problem.
Fortunately, our social lives aren't too centered on alcohol at all. When I get together with girlfriends for example, there are several of us who don't drink if we have an early morning anyway, and a couple who have medical issues that prohibit them from drinking. I think it's gonna be pretty easy, but I'm just a little bit surprised that it's crossed my mind as much as it has!6 -

This evening is a great example of enjoying AF for me. This evening I was a bit sideways over a few things. In the past it would have EASILY been please pour the wine faster!! In turn, would always make things worse. I am thankful I was able to change my attitude and now going to enjoy the rest of the evening rather than pondering on things that are unnecessary. Win Win!12

Aww, just hang in there!!! Start over and that is it. Sorry about the accident. My nerves would be shot if that happened here. Love and hugs.

It took a little longer than the last time I went AF, but I slept good and all night last night. No tossing and turning. Today is day 17 AF.

@Ed_Zilla Awesome! I am also sleeping so much better without alcohol. Not at first... Now, Yes! Not as long; however, not sleeping off alcohol.6

I'll join your team I haven't had a drink in a week and I'm planning on staying away from alcohol for at least 6 months then possibly add it in occasionally in moderation. I'm a part time barender though. It's fairly easy for me to not drink at home but I struggle at work!10
-
Just poppin' in to say that today marks my 4 weeks of AF!!! Yipeeeee!!!
Everyone here seems to be doing well, keep it up, and enjoy your week
Thanks for all the support, so glad I stumbled across this group!12 -
@errydayimmusclin YEP...I figure this 4 week mark of AF...dom DESERVES a WooHoo...so, Yes, that WOO was from Moi
And a thumbs up to @evilpoptart63 for a week of sobriety!!! Welcome! Your occupation can definitely present a challenge but then I'm sure you see the gnarly side of drinking also...now there's some incentive!!8 -
I'm in the process of locating my Dad's family...It was so exciting to find an in-law even though she is now divorced from the Fam member who is connected....but I am in the process of picking her brain for details...a little difficult for her cause she doesn't know me from a hole in the ground...I located her on FB so I don't blame her for being suspicious, but I think I made a break through & am awaiting her to message me again after she attends to some errands...
It was very emotional for me because she is an in-law of my half brother, so I was in tears when I texted my daughter in between messages...and then was told that he died several years ago, so that was a bummer, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to connect with my half sister. I'm somewhat reserved cause I'm not sure who I'll find if anyone...still exciting though. It's my project right now to get some of my Dad's history.
AND for anyone who is connected with their family you're very fortunate...NOW there's a blessing to count!!9 -
I am very happy to find this group. After more than 25 years drinking (besides during my three pregnancies), and after many events made into unhappy events due to my excessive alcohol consumption, I have decided to give up all alcohol. I am on day 17 AF and I am feeling incredibly better already.14

Wow! Best wishes on your search. Xo6 -
Good morning all. I'm still here, following along though not feeling too chatty. This rainy/sleet/snow over and over has me in a black mood. I need Quiche's happy sun light lamp I guess. I need to keep in mind that Spring WILL get here eventually! Everyone sounds like they are doing well with their personal goals. Welcome to the new faces! You will find lots of support here.8

Hello Driends! Thanks @Normnlv for that haha, ugh 5 days sober and just rethinking my strategy, I'm very pissed that I drank after 60 days off! Still even after getting back on the wagon my confidence is shaky but I do say every "slip" is a learning experience and this time I learned drinking just makes me tired,I go from buzz to blackout fast! I yelled at my daughter,I had NO energy the next day so there's that, bad memories to add to my list, had a nice talk with hubs about it and he says let it go,no use dwelling on it so I guess I won't or at least try not to,Lorraine, that's interesting about your family, hope it all works out,Jen,hope your mood gets better,I get it this is the longest winter in history and I'm in the desert! Just rainy, windy, gloomy on/off,wishes for a happy AF day, back later8
