Hi all, is this a group of women over 50? Am I allowed to join? I have gained 10 plus pounds I am really unhappy about and need to lose ASAP. I need motivation and accountability!9

Pip-so sorry about Bullwinkle.
Janetr- love the hair and glasses!! Great choices!
Took a wonderful 3 mile walk on our Waterfront Park while my daughter was in dance class. The sun was still a little intense, but the breeze coming off the river made it just perfect!

@martacamsan Yes, anyone can join in. Bookmark the thread by clicking on the star above the magnifying glass symbol at the top right of the page. That way you can find us again. And Welcome!
Janetr Pretty glasses. Can't wait to so the new "do". You are beautiful.
Pip I was hoping the lump would just be a cyst or something. I'm so sorry. Bullwinkle will have the very best caretaker in the world for the rest of her time here. (((Hugs))). I'm the night-time caretaker for our aging dogs, too. I saw Farley through and now Bailey. I'm up right now because I had to change a diaper...
KarenNY (((Hugs)))
Rori Hope your sore ankles recover quickly. I know you never had this on your agenda when you thought about how this spring and summer would be.
Carol (((Hugs))) So sorry you and your husband are dealing with this. Years ago, someone broke into my brother's apartment when he was hospitalized and stole his old Gibson guitar. One of the few things he cherished.

Tomorrow son, wife and Athena go over to my MILs home. We have a great relationship with her, and my son and DIL have visited her a lot since moving up to Pacific northwest, from California. My middle sister, the one that has no empathy, and drinks to handle her pain from fibromyalgia, is coming to my mother in-laws home too. I will then go stay with her until Friday. I told my sister we will be going over there at 11:00 and have lunch with MIL. My sister text back that she'll getting there at 2:00pm. My son said that they don't want to leave their dogs longer than 4 hours, plus wife needs to be home to pump. My spider senses are already tingling about my sister. What if she wishes to take me to her "family bar", I just roll with it? I know she praises her bars food, but its just an excuse to eat and drink. me

Yes, we are a group of 50+ something women. You are more than welcome to join us. It helps us respond if you tell us a little about yourself and sign each post with a name you would like us to call you. Because we are a large group and many names duplicated, if you add your location behind your name it's very helpful.

Pip: Bless you and Winkle. I teared up reading your plans for seeing her transition over the rainbow bridge. How is Bootz?
Janetr: Hair and glasses = Winners!
Katla: Hope you can set plans for visiting your kids.
For the first time since end of April, I did shopped in a grocery store. Trader Joe's is smaller than Walmart, so it wasn't extremely taxing. But by the time I unloaded everything, my feet and ankles were feeling it.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

bootz our cat is doing fine. she's slowed down a bit but that's it2 -
Nap helped. So did sitting on front porch with Joe to catch the breeze. 10+ degrees cooler at the front of the house than the back. Have to laugh at myself being so heat sensitive, it was only 85 for gosh's sake! We've been so spoiled by the perpetual mild temps that our bodies have forgotten how to cope with extremes of heat and cold.
NYKaren (hugs)
allie prayers continue for your work situation. Hope the right job comes looking for you soon.
Janet hubba hubba
Carol how is it the baddies know as soon as a house is unoccupied? In a neighborhood up the hill from us, a young man broke into the house of a recently deceased person, stole many things, causing great hardship to an already grieving family.
pip (((hugs))) heart aches for you and Kirby.
Amber "Hide the mirrors say hope I don’t have to see that Woman for another year lol." you crack me up!
@martacamsan welcome!
Midway through line dancing my legs began to ache with tiredness. Finally had to sit out one iteration of the last dance, and staggered home straight to bed. What the heck was with that? No unusual exertion yesterday, 5 hours of driving and 2 hrs of shopping, good steps. ?

morning ladies~
Pip~ ohhh poor Bullwinkle, I know you and Kirby have done all you can do.. and will continue to do so.. losing our furry children is so tough xoxox
Janet`~ Love the hair and glasses...well I dont know if stress causes weight gain but somehow I gained 5 lbs overnight eating the same stuff I do daily..
actually planning the reunion wasn't hard. at this stage of the game we are getting together and enjoying each others company... we all grew up in a small town.. and we figured we would have it on Friday night of Labor day weekend, so that people can have the rest of the weekend to do things..
going to have my tea and relax and then get dressed...3 -
Pip - much respect and love for the life you've given Bullwinkle, and the way you plan to see her out of it. You and Kirby are stronger than most, glad you have each other, Floyd, Yogi and Bootz with her as she goes, and to hold each other.
Janet - love your hair color and cut as well as the glasses. Haven't let mine go gray yet, because it's still randomly gray and patchy, but looking forward to it. You look lovely. Regarding the ex-wife, there are reasons why she's the ex and Jack is with you, and remarks like that are probably Exhibit A. They sound like compliments, but they have sharp edges. You look so happy in the photo, I'm happy for you.
Margaret - love how much of yourself and your healing presence that you're giving your son as he goes through this.
Barbara AHMOD - so far, two things have had that sudden exhaustion effect on me, my thyroid and my iron levels. You might want to get them checked. Both kind of snuck up on me, as it's a slow process. Both also have the effect of making me temperature-sensitive. Worth getting some testing done?
Still dark outside, but the birds they are a-chirping like mad. Only 58 degrees this morning, and the rain's supposed to start again at 9, so I'll pop out about 6:30 and walk the edges of the property... See if I can't make it to a mile this morning--six laps around.
Got great news yesterday - the grant I mentioned that we won last week was a matching grant for a larger one to work with girls in schools and community centers across five of the poorest counties in Arkansas. Yesterday we got notified that we've won the full AmeriCorps grant that it was meant to match as well, so we've completely funded 400 girls for a year of Girl Scout experience through these two grants. These are girls to whom the $25 membership fee would be an insurmountable barrier for their parents, so we go where they are. Part of the AmeriCorps members' mandate is to also recruit volunteers to start troops in the area, as well, to build a community of support for these girls. My job is to get the funding to make it happen. These are the times that remind me why I love my job, when all the hard work pays off.
Welcome to those who are new, we're glad you're here!
Love y'all!

Lisa Fantastic news about the AmeriCorps grant. Think of the Girl Scouts whose lives will be changed by your success at securing this grant! Yay!!

Son is doing better everyday. We shared a sausage and mushroom pizza last night. I don't usually like sausage but this one was good. Then we took laps around his unit. We walked about a mile. For someone who was needed help just to turn in a bed less than a week ago I call this a miracle. When I reminded that a couple of days ago when I had to keep telling him to TURN TURN TURN he said I was talking about my favorite song. Turn, Turn, Turn by the birds. I started to sing it as we walked around. He teased me and said it might be time for me to go. I didn't realize how much I missed that side of him until it popped out last night.
To everything turn, turn, turn...
there is a season turn, turn, turn
and a time for every purpose under heaven...
That is as far as he let me sing. Feels very appropriate for what we have been going through.

It's gonna be a hot one today - probably 95! Thankfully no smoke!
Neighbors next door got a new heat pump installed a few weeks ago, but the installer hasn't hooked it to the thermostat yet. Luckily they get a good breeze and their house is surrounded by trees. I have windows open and have the A/C running just to draw in as much cool air as possible.
Janetr - love your haircut and new glasses. One of the first visits I'll make when the teleporter gets out of the shop is to zip down your direction, see you and your hair stylist. I decided to trim mine a couple days ago. It now needs help, lol. The little gal I had doesn't work many days anymore due to family responsibility and even when she was in, she didn't take customers before 11. I'm an early bird so looking again who can take me at 9 or 10.
Lisa - congrats on the grant! And congrats to the little gals who will now be able to participate in GirlScouts!
Rori - what a nice photo of you, DH, and your friends. Glad you were able to enjoy the Rose City and celebrate your DH's birthday! And happy you were able to navigate TJ's. Progress, tho painful...
Rebecca - crossing fingers all works out with MIL and your middle sister. Did you say you'd be able to see your other sis as well?
Tracey - love that door, you and your DH do great home renovation work. Can I borrow you two?
Allie - Dr. Pandey must be under a lot of pressure to treat his staff so thoughtlessly - for a little while after that "kid" left I thought he'd seen the light. At least you have days off to get your mind on other things. Is he having any progress in hiring a new office manager? Ah, class reunion. My 50th is in July, back in Indiana. Sent a letter of regret - would love to see and hug so many of my old classmates, am thankful for the wretched Facebook which at least lets me keep up with some of them.
Dana - Good job on your weight loss! Doc said I didn't have the classic neuropathy signs - no apparent loss of feeling in feet, but she gave me Gapabentin for the burning.
I think I've been overly aggressive in doing hamstring stretches and my sitting bones hurt when I squat or bend over to weed or pick up the dog. Feels like I spent a day riding to Seattle on a new bicycle seat. Emailed the doc and asked her if there are any physical therapy tips/stretches I can do. Wish it didn't take so darned long to recover from physical aches and pains. I had a lot of Celebrex left from my shoulder problem, I'm hitting that bottle again.
Karen in VA - PUPPIES!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my word, how could you choose just one? Are you thinking of getting another of that breed eventually?
Michele - your ceramics are so neat. What a nice hobby to spend some time like that being creative.
NYKaren - hope you are doing better. Your DH is a gem, great to get things talked out.
Carol - glad you had better luck at the gym! Yes, BNL is a big responsibility now - can get overwhelming even for care givers half your age. Did the power of attorney papers get tracked down and signed? (((HUGS)))
Time to close for now and get some watering done.
Make a good day, ladies!

Kept y'all under my hat (I wear a baseball hat with an MP3 player attached to it, and earphones blasting when I walk) and made it to a mile this morning, even though I wanted to quit at five laps, but I made it six. Each day, just one more step, one more lap around the yard, one more of SOMEthing, except food. My head's in the right place for the first time in a while as far as taking care of me... Happy dance!
The hard part is NOT listening to the little voice that says, "Yes, but it took you a half hour!" That one can go for a long walk off a short pier.
Love y'all!

Lanette We paid a lot of money for Bailey; he was meant to be a therapy dog and we were quite serious about getting the right dog. How silly we were! Bailey failed therapy dog school because his skin was so sensitive he couldn't stand to be brushed. He actually screamed during that part of the test We were embarrassed for him, poor doggie. He knew he had somehow failed us, poor sweetie. He's a delicate flower. As far as picking one puppy, the breeder was very protective of his dogs; we had to go through a vetting process and then he chose which dogs would go to which new owner. Would never do that again, too much money, and there are so many rescues and strays that are wonderful dogs and need forever homes.

Thank you, the encouragement works wonders. The gal that cuts my hair is always telling me women pay good money to make their hair this color, I told her I paid dearly for everyone of those white hairs.
Wow, Lisa congrats on winning that impressive grant.

Hi all, I'd like to join! I'm 52 years old, divorced with two teenaged children, 2 dogs and a partner. I'm also a professor and administrator at a university. I hit menopause in Jan (last period) and have had unbelievable weight gain: 10-16 pounds. I also have developed a bad habit of waking up several times in the night and going to the kitchen to eat! Those calories add up! I love wine but need to stop drinking it for a while to lose the weight. So, goals are:
Every day:
Stay within calorie limit
At least 20 minutes intentional exercise
No wine (unless out socializing)
5 min meditation
At least 25 minutes writing
Gratitude journaling
Today: (at least 4 items)
Invoice
Signed contract
Response to proposal
Tinker grant prep
Email to incoming Director
Finances
pcard test
card pick up
IRIS satisfaction survey
Thanks everybody! Looking forward to some accountability!

Marta- jump right on in here, lol. Welcome!
Karen in VA - Understandable about the price and vetting process of getting a new purebred pup. Drat, that #&%^#( refrigerator again !!!! Sock it to 'em, lol.
Lisa - our property is nowhere as large as yours, but just carrying veggie trimmings to the compost heap gets me 400 steps. Kind of nice walking alone I think, away from traffic and other people unless I'm really in the rare mood to be sociable.

Marta - welcome to the group, don't forget to bookmark us (here's the current link that will take you back to where you posted last (https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10747166/women-ages-50-for-june-2019/#latest). We're a chatty bunch--and this is for all who are new--don't feel you have to reply to everyone. We all chime in where we can, when we feel moved to do so, and all voices are welcome. Barbie starts us all over again each month.
Thanks, all, for the congrats on the grant. When I met Rori nearly three years ago, I said I was looking for something more than a paycheck. This is my second Girl Scout council, and I'm just beginning my third year straight of grant writing, and I feel I found what I was looking for--SO much more than a paycheck, a bone-deep satisfaction that what I do makes a direct impact on the future, not just of girls, but of my country.
These girls will learn early that they are leaders, and that they are capable of great things. There are days that I feel if I had only gotten that message early, I would have been a CEO, or a senator by now, instead of just now finding satisfaction in my job. No regrets - it's genuinely been an amazing life! But I envy these girls' future of hearing that they matter now, and the support of amazing adult volunteers who care about whether they succeed. My mother was simply trying to survive my father's abuse and help her children survive it. Most of my jobs have been that, too, just expediency, rather than making a choice. This one was a choice, and I'm glad I made it.
Sorry to wax all fluffy, I tend to fold to the inspirational when I talk about my job. I am ever grateful to Rori--even when things have been tough, the results my council can achieve for girls with the grants we win provides reason to keep striving.
Love y'all,

Marta ~ Welcome to a great site for us ladies over 50!
Lisa ~ Congrats on your walking! I have made myself go to the gym 3 times now and using the treadmill and the bike. I can only do about 5 to 10 minutes on each and then I'm exhausted. Need to learn how to use some of the upper body equipment.
Karen in VA ~ Bailey is such a cutie!

home again home again jiggity jig..
DFIL wasn't having any of it this morning, no food no drink no nothing.. dont know but to me he looks like he might have suffered a small stroke as his right side of his face is a bit droopy, I could be wrong because he can life that hand and still talk.. who knows.. anyway left there and went to a discount store and cot a rug for my room and an umbrella.. and now will go online and look for work... I am sitting with windows open and listening to the birds and even that is not bringing me joy..
Dr Pandey is not hiring another office manager, he is hiring a young girl (well to me) and giving her the full time position and cutting my hours.. he is a micro manager and I understand he has alot riding on this , he is the sole owner and he wants everything done to the letter. neither Mary nor I were trained in alot of what we are doing and the more we do the more he puts on us.. now he wants one of us to take a course up in Boston overnight.. its a thursday and friday, which I am sure if he even pays for the course we have to foot the bill for hotel..
Mary wont go because of her mother, the new girl who starts the beginning of July has a 7 month old, which leaves me, and for all the crap he has put on me , why the heck should I go..
Have to pick up the boys at the groomers in an hour and a 1/2 and then drop them off and go feed DFIL, hopefully he will eat lunch..
wish me luck xoxox5 -
Hi everyone. I would like to join, too. I'm 53, divorced, two kids, one grandson. I have lovely friends and a great family. Back in my teens and 20s, I was always "too skinny" according to some people. That hasn't been the case since my last child was born 25 years ago. LOL!
About 10 years ago I did manage to lose 51 pounds in 4 months with diligent exercise and daily conscious eating choices. Then, I met someone who I [mistakenly] thought was my "soul mate" and the weight started slowly coming back. [Happy weight? IDK] Turns out, he was only my "soul mate" as long as I was thin. We were together for 6 years until I broke up with him 3 years ago. Since then, I've gained the 51 pounds back, plus about 15 more.
Which brings me here. I've been on MFP before. Lots and lots of times. Always fell by the wayside after a week or so. I'm fairly certain that won't be the case this time. I just returned from a weekend girls' trip to Chicago. One of my girlfriends LOVES to take pictures. Every 5 steps, take a picture.... 5 more, time for another picture, and on and on it went throughout the weekend. I like pictures of babies, nature, cool places, other people, but I don't like . . . no, I HATE pictures of myself. Why? Because seeing a picture of myself doesn't let me continue to be in denial about my weight. This time, I forced myself to look because something deep down inside said "You can't continue down this path you're on." I know how big I am. My jeans certainly know how big I am judging by the button and waistband indentations they leave on my skin. So, I looked at the picture she sent me and, as expected, didn't like what I saw. Usually, I would just "delete" the photo or not allow the tag to show on my timeline on Facebook. Not this time. I looked HARD. I expanded the photo and scrutinized every [large] pixel of it. I took the time to digest the fact that yes, this is how I REALLY look, and then I SAVED the photo to my phone.
For a few days I did some much-needed soul searching: "You have to get serious and you have to do this." "This ain't going to be easy." "C'mon! You know you can do this. You've done it before."
.... along with some self-deprecation. "You're a cow." "What's the matter with you?" "Why can't you control yourself?"
So here I am and here I plan to stay.
Here's to hoping we can be friends & you all will help me find ME again. Thanks for listening and I look forward to meeting you all.
Nancy from Michigan
P.S. I'll post a photo later. Have about 200 from Chicago to weed through. LOL!11 -

@oasis_fan Love your post! I identify with so much of it! I really hope I don't fall by the wayside either. Got to turn this around! (Is it ok to say that the "soulmate as long as I was thin" part also scared me a bit? Ack!!!)5

thanks everyone for the hugs and support.
My DH has been taking much better care of himself, making better food choices has led him to lose 10 #s. He's decidedly more upbeat as well.

Thank you. Loved your post, too! Yes, it's definitely ok to say the "soulmate as long as I was thin" part scared you. His mask fell off as soon as my weight put on. He wasn't a nice guy after all. It's ok though and I'm glad I got away.

Karen in VA: I love the cart before the horse cartoon. I was able to down load it.
Lisa: Congratulations on securing the AmeriCorps Grant! Congrats, too, on your “milestone” for today’s walk.
Margaret: I am delighted that things are going better for your son. WTG!!!
Lanette: I’m in the market for a new hair cutter, too. The lady who does my hair doesn’t listen to what I continually ask for. It is frustrating. She’s a very nice woman but does NOT do what I ask. I’m not speaking a foreign language, to the best of my knowledge. :grumble:
Marta: Welcome to a great group of women. This is a good place for encouragement, & support. My best advice: Log every bite and swallow, and measure portions using a food scale or measuring cups.
Lisa: My DGD is a Girl Scout and it has been wonderful for her. You and Rori are champions helping our girls.
Allie: “home again home again jiggity-jig..” My mom also used to say that and you made me smile. My only employment advice is to get a new job before quitting the old one. Quitting will compromise your unemployment benefits. (My first job after college was working for the unemployment office.)
Nancy from MI: Welcome to a great group! Bookmark us so that you can find us easily. There is a blank star at the top of the page, click it and it will turn yellow. After that you can find us any time by clicking on the yellow star.
I had a city meeting last night and have a horsey meeting tonight. The horse group, OET, is active in creating places for people to ride their horses. They’ve adopted one county park where they’ve created & maintain corrals and trails. Now they’re working on improvements for another county park.
