GOOD MORN I belong to an online group through FB called the Sober Living Support Group...very supportive bunch of people working to stay sober just like this thread. I came across a blurb on there that I'd like to share here:
"The goal isn't to be sober. The goal is to love yourself so much that you don't need to drink"
Happy, sober, relaxing OR productive day to all11 -
Good morning all! I finally feel better! Barely any vertigo. And I slept like a rock.
@lorrainequiche59 That's a great quote!! It's so true.

The Sober School website is always inspiring. Lately, I've been just staying home, a lot. Twice my car almost went to my old favorite bar to see if my friends were there. But I did some self talk and said "Do you want to suffer tomorrow for a little bit of fun tonight?". I decided it wasn't worth it. Wishing you a beautiful day!8 -
Hi Everyone! I'm back from London and Scotland. Nice to see the new faces! I imbibed on vacation though I was quite moderate compared to my former self. No more than 2 glasses of wine a day which believe me, is hard in Scotland. However I DO feel better being completely AF so back to day one again. I know for me, drinking is a slippery slope and I just can't afford to go down that road again. I'm booking my annual physical for December and that is great motivation to have good numbers in my blood work and on the scale.7

@RubyRed427 Thanks for sharing the sober school website. That post was very helpful for me.
I have failed so many times at being sober. I even went to a festival and chose not to drink and had such a blast and felt joy I had not in a while but got back to normal life and back to drinking. Trying again. Sober since Sunday. I know I am overall happier when I do not drink but yet I go back to it time and time again.

Hey everyone!
Just checking in at the start of day 655 AF.
There is something really good in every single day.
My family, friends, and co-workers make me laugh : I see a lot more humor in life these days
My home is cleaner than it's ever been : I have a lot more energy these days
I've completed projects around the house that have languished for years. : I have a lot more patience these days
I've finished 21 knitting projects, & I've started to learn to draw. : I have more time for creativity these days
I lift weights, and I run, and I eat a whole bunch of great food : I have more calories for food these days
I spend time every single day connecting on some level with my husband and daughter : I feel so loved these days
I hope everyone has a beautiful Sunday!

Good evening, friends! I came back from a whirlwind weekend four Hours away at my daughter's parent's weekend. It was wonderful but jam packed- 13,000 steps yesterday from the events we attended.
It was also a sober weekend. I also slept so good on a futon in an airbnb. Ex husband ordered a big beer while we ate dinner but the three other adults at the table did not. That was refreshing.
I did order a club soda. And I wondered why it looked so dark. I whispered to my daughter, I think down south the club soda is different. She sipped it and said "Mom, it's ginger ale!" LOL7 -

@whitpauly I look forward to seeing your posts always!
@kcn2bluesky Thanks for sharing ! It is inspirational all that you accomplished with sobriety!3 -
@kcn2bluesky Wow! That is totally inspiring! @RubyRed427 You are awesome! So happy you had a sober weekend at your daughter's school. I'm starting a new exercise commitment today and will continue to eat healthier and be AF. My physical is 12/19 so that's 2 months to really work on myself. I continue to be inspired by all of you!4

TWO YEARS sober birthday on Thursday the 17th!!! It gets easier folks. But I'll never abandon the concepts of AA and always lean on the accountability my group provides.11

Good Morn: Happy AF day to all
Great to see old and new faces3 -
Good morning friends! I found a decent article about drinking wine on NYT. Nothing earth shattering but always a good reminder why we quit.
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/24/well/eat/drinking-alcohol-women-psychology-health.html4 -
Good article @RubyRed47. I didnt care at all what I was eating when drinking my beer. Whos caring about calories when a beer is at least 110 calories or more. Hence I was fat.
So this morning I put my winter coat on to take my daughter out for the bus. I thought I grabbed the wrong jacket. I could zip this up with 6 inches to spare. What an elated feeling. I mean I couldn't move in this jacket last year. The shoulder area was tight. I Could barely zip it and when I did on a cold day I looked like a sardine. Gray coat 😂😂😂. I've lost my big beer belly!! Hope you are all faring well!

I didn't drink (or smoke, use other drugs, etc.) for about a year. Not because I had any substance use problem, but because I just lost interest in recreational substances (I think I told the story of this in this thread a long time ago...tl;dr I saw an alcoholic guy during a night out and it depressed me so much that it just turned me off the whole idea of drinking for a long time).
Then last month I decided to start drinking again, in moderation, mostly because of FOMO. Well, turns out that now I actually can't. I drank three times -- moderate amounts of 1-3 drinks each time -- and every time, I got EXTREMELY depressed and suicidal for 3 to 4 days afterwards. I felt like I was being buried alive. It was pretty terrible.
It took me a few times to realize that the alcohol was causing this. Nothing like this has ever happened before -- I had no emotional ill-effects from alcohol in the past, even during the times when I drank too much in college and so on. But I guess I just lost all tolerance for alcohol due to taking a break from it for so long? IDK, it's really weird.
But anyway due to this, there's literally no point in me ever drinking again...so I guess my body made the decision for me.8 -
I do appreciate all of the posts here.
Thanks.5 -

Not sure your age but as we get older, alcohol's effects on us changes and rarely for the better. After drinking, I will feel shaky and very very anxious the day after- even if I'd had only two drinks. The day after is awful emotionally. I'm happy you figured out the trigger and how detrimental alcohol's effects are on your brain. That is so scary. Hugs. Thanks for sharing this.5 -
@laurenq1991 drinking makes me horribly depressed too🤪 of course the first few seem to lift my mood but as the night rolls on forget it I just feel so down and down for days after too,yup good reason for us to avoid it,hope all are well💖6

Thanks.
Thanks for the message; sometimes it's a good reminder that even a few posts can help others. Let's keep posting, friends. Good, bad or ugly- sharing is so important. No one likes to feel like they are the only ones who struggle with alcohol's strong pull.5 -
I recently joined Weight Watchers to get a more concrete experience- I'll go to meetings, etc. BUT I will not stop using myfitnesspal- it has change my life so significantly especially with the less alcohol and sober squad threads being a huge part of my search for sobriety. xo7
