Allie ... I'm right there with you needing to get back to doing what I know works. Even though I maintained my fasting periods, I ate willy nilly as well through the holidays. The amount of sugar I consumed is not good for anyone on any plan and I put on 8 pounds!! Mostly water weight I know ... but still...

Katla ... do you bake gluten free items that are suitable to your FODMAP diet? I came across a woman who follows FODMAP and also had a recipe for items like lemon pound cake. I'll find the link if you're interested.

Last year my word was "commitment" and I can say that I was committed to the endeavors I chose to focus on. At the beginning of 2019 I made the comment that I had done nothing weight-wise in all of 2018. This year I can say that I am entering 2020 healthier and lighter (25 lbs released and then 8 snuck back in at the end)! I committed to adding variety to my diet (think produce boxes), journaling my 19:5 IF experience and developing a daily prayer/devotional time (started in October, but have been consistent since then). I did not keep up with decluttering so that will be part of 2020.
This year my word will be "consistent"* * Edited. I think a better word will be "steadfast." as I want to continue with the commitments that have been positive. I made a list of 20 goals for 2020 and they encompass a variety of health and wellness goals that are meant to enrich my life. They include continuing with IF, prayer/devotional time, decluttering 15 minutes, conquering filing cabinet once and for all, reestablishing exercise routine, making a will (we don't have one!!), inviting guests to our home, taking my disabled son on at least one outing monthly, and so on.
And, of course, I want to be lighter entering 2021!
May 2020 be a year of good health and blessings to all of you!

Pip: Congratulations on your new work assignment! I’m guessing that it will be much more pleasant than phone duty. Good news that Yogi is doing so well. We have a weather tech seat cover for our dog, but it hasn’t been used much because going anywhere in the car turns him into a neurotic twit. He is anxious and unhappy in the car, even after taking doggie tranquilizers from the vet, but he is entirely relaxed and happy in the RV, no tranquilizers necessary. Go figure. :bigsmile:
Beth: DH is an autoimmune poster child. He has been an insulin dependent diabetic since age 18. He is now also a celiac and has MS. His system is intolerant of gluten and lactose. He has been put on a FODMAP diet by his doctor. I am also lactose intolerant but there are plenty of lactose free products available these days. We bake gluten free products from time to time. Calories are higher than items made with wheat flour. :ohwell:
Janetr: Happy 1500 Days!!!!!!! I am sorry to hear about your worries for your daughter. Good news that you were able to go to Jack’s grandson’s wedding. I watched the Rose Parade on RFD-TV this morning. NO commercials! WAHOO! I plan to watch the Rose Bowl with DH this afternoon. We are both U of O graduates and Oregon Ducks fans. We’ll be cheering for our team.
My goals are unchanged because they work for me.

AF day today. First one this holiday season.
Following my word UNLEASH I have made a start this evening on setting up a website. I realised I have no means by which somebody can get in touch with me if they like my books and want to contact me about talks, publicity etc. I am floundering a bit as I have never done it before, but I will get there in the end. I can put a link to it on my Amazon Author page and in my next book. It's not live yet as I don't really know what I'm doing! Hate technology. Grrrrrr!

Husband and I went to bed at 9pm like we normally do. Lots of fireworks blasting about. I still am awake for a bit each night, trying not to organize in my head.
Paid bills yesterday because military pay had come in, but his last work retirement hadn't posted yet. After my husband retired from the Navy in 1998, he worked various job sites as a purchasing agent, then settled at a position in Vacaville CA Water District. After 10 years there he retired. So although its not a lot, that $ combined with Navy pay, we can live a fairly blessed life. My bills are simple, cable and life insurance prremium, 1/3 out for our health insurance premium which we pay every quarter. Our son pays water/ sewage/ garbage bill and electricity bill. This month our bills totaled $309 and sons was $425. So in my transfer of rent to him I tacked on another $100. Easy peasy. Compared to life when we were struggling in Hammond OR, its a breath of fresh air to not have financial burdens. Husband is making a doctor's appointment for our Chevy Spark.😁 I think she needs new tires and a oil change. I have been putting $200 away each month just for that. She is paid off so we were used to taking money out for the car payment anyway. My one talent seems to be balancing my checkbook to the penny each month. Pick and choose things you have control over. That is one of my goals. With my dear husband doing "creative math" I have to stay on top of things.
This past December I decided to change up things so I IF from 6pm to 12 noon ( sometimes 1 pm) eat a nice meal, then have a smaller meal at 5-6pm. I don't miss eating right when I wake up. Its nice to exercise on a belly that's warm and empty. I seem to sleep better without a bigger meal to process either. Sticking to what seems to be working. Long gone are the 240's lbs which seemed to be a normal for me. Getting into the 230's. When we moved to the island I was 255 lbs. So change is happening. I feel better and more in control of my life.
Goals- to eat heartily my one meal. Lots of veggies, some oils, some complex grains, and protein to keep things interesting. My fruits will be snacks, some calcium snacks.
My blood pressure used to be 155/93 and with the proper medicine its manageable at 112/73 (last check last week at gym).
I do not log my food, but I measure foods still.
I am aware of portions.👍

No exercise for today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Body Pump DVD
Denise called yesterday. She was talking about how they were going to have PJ’s birthday party either the last weekend in April or the first in May. I do hope they have it the first weekend in May since Denise has an extra day off from work so we can spend an extra day with her. It all depends on Pete’s work, if he can get that Saturday off. Then she was talking about the baptism. Personally, I think it would be nice to have it Labor Day weekend. For one thing, we’d have an extra day with her and for another thing people will have the next day off. She said “well, people go down the shore”. I know that she’s going to do what she wants to do. I’m just not sure of a good gift for PJ from his grandparents. Any ideas?
Bananas – I usually track every day, but I haven’t with the holidays. I’m trying and I know that I’ll get back to it after Jess leaves. I very seldom buy food online because there is such a high minimum. Not unless I’m buying a lot of frozen food (usually fish). I don’t make resolutions, they usually get broken anyway. I would much rather receive a gift that I want rather than something someone THINKS I want that I usually don’t
We called Denise and Jess last night. Denise said they just stayed home. I felt so so bad for Jess, she was driving to the airport because she didn’t have any place to stay. She was going to stay in the airport. I felt so bad that she didn’t have a place to stay. She said she stayed last night at Chris’ (old BF) parent’s house. If it had been me, I would have asked the person where they were staying the next night and when they said they don’t have any plans I would have told them that they were staying at my house. Anyway, later that night she called to say that she was staying at a hotel since she wanted to take a shower. I do hope she did and didn’t just say that to make us feel good. I hope Vince talked her out of staying in the airport. They really don’t like someone sleeping there.
I slept in the room with Shadow (Jess’ cat) last night. I know that made Jess feel better. She said that she was going to sleep when she got back here (totally understandable) so she’ll be up when Ken & Lynette come here. I know that she likes Ken and he wants to see her. I think Lynette does, too. I know Jess wouldn’t mind if Lynette weren’t here, but she’ll be cordial.
Carol – I could afford to buy a Roomba, but I waited for my IP (all good things are worth waiting for), and since this is something that I don’t HAVE to have, I will wait. I don’t mind using the vacuum, I’ve done it for years, I can do it for a little more. I just want to give people ideas of things they can get me. It’s happened before that I haven’t and then I get things that are really dust collectors. Oh, good, I’m glad to see you’re going to have ham today. I got concerned when I saw that you had chicken wings last night !

bananas – my daily calorie goal is about 1253. Changing up the intensity and duration of my workouts seems to help somewhat with weight. Need to keep the body guessing what’s coming next!!! I don’t log my exercise calories, but know that if I go over I have a bit of a buffer. I really don’t count macros, I just try to eat healthy (lots of different veges and fruits, little meat). Also, when I’m logging many times I don’t bother to be real precise. Like tonight my recipe says that a pork chop is 180 calories. There was an entry in the database of a pork chop that was 188 calories. Close enough. I do try to watch my sodium
Picked Jess up. Her flight got in ½ hr early but they had to wait at the gate until the previous airplane got out of the gate so she could come in. But she did get here. Early morning is the time to fly, there isn’t much traffic at the airport and flights haven’t had a chance to get delayed. We’re home now, she’s sleeping and I think I’ll lay down in the livingroom
Barbie – many times I buy my own gifts and give them to Vince to give to me. But he still likes giving me a gift that he got. So I might as well get something that I want. Now I did buy myself a bathing suit and gave it to him to give me. This way I know I like it and that it fits.
Katla – every year we were down in FL with the inlaws at this time of year and every year we’d watch the Rose bowl on TV (I think that was the one). Brings back good memories
Pip – so happy to read everything that’s going on in your life. How wonderful that you can give Lenny’s things to his mother
Janetr – so glad you went to the wedding and that your daughter was found. What happened with the dogs?

Rita – you said you were going to call your mother once/week. One thing I found was that my father used to call his mother once/week usually on the same day at the same time. One time he couldn’t call her that day and time. She got VERY upset that he hadn’t called her. When I would call my father once/week, I always tried to make it on a different day at a different time.

I’m keeping Christmas up until Epiphany as well.
My word for 2020 is PRAISE. My goal is to decrease whining and feeling sorry for myself and to praise God for the blessings i have. I’ll start by being thankful for the 11.3 lbs that are missing from my Jan 1, 2019 body. Yes, it could be a lot more, but im happy for the success ive had.

I also wanted to get a couple drawers of my guest room cleaned out in advance of the arrival of boxes my brother will be getting from his ex-GF. DONE! I have a couple things to take to the garage and other items to donate to Goodwill. Two big black trash bags were purged.

Heather - I told my decorations down today too. Except the inevitable one that always escapes my eye when I’m putting away. This year it is snowflake lights over my Kitchen curtains.
I followed an idea that Penny shared last year and left some lights in vases and such to try to brighten the gloom of winter.
Janet- I’m so sorry to read all of the struggles your family is experiencing. I hope your daughter gets the help she needs soon.
I was in bed by 1030 last night and if there were fireworks in the area I didn’t hear them. Hubby has decided to try the Mediterranean diet. I have to learn a new way of cooking and figure out how To make something for myself at the same time. I am such a fussy eater I won’t like a lot of it.
I really am happy he is paying attention but wish he would just count the calories and eat what I make.
Off to clean our bedroom I ended up throwing some things in there while cleaning the rest of the house today.

That is an impressive list. My 20 for 2020 has a lot of items that can be completed in one afternoon, nothing that has to be done daily or weekly, and nothing with a deadline other than the end of the year. Good luck to you.
My word for 2020 is "flexible" pertaining to both my attitude and behaviours and my body.

I have major paperwork disaster. anyone have any tips?
It wasn't great before- comes and goes- but when I had those work issues in 2015-2017 I drowned in the papers involved in keeping documentation and never totally got my head out. I have boxes and piles and areas of papers spread out on the floor, and covering many surfaces.
For paperwork:
First do you have a system of how you want to organize them and files to match how you want them. Colored files work great because it can make it easier to find what you need. Can some of what you have be scanned and saved to a thumb drive?
Once you have your plan figure out a part of your day to sort your papers and file them to the system you decided works for you. I would have a shredder and bag to recycle handy to get rid of what you can. Shred anything that has your name and address and any sensitvie info.
Since our file cabinet is in our basement I do my fiing when I do the laundry. We have an old maytag and I like to be there when it goes through it cylces plus I like to add vinegar during the last rinse, so the time it takes to do a load is just about the right amount of time to do my paperwork. I also try to take that time to clean out a couple of old files and shred sensitive paperwork if needed.
I don't have as much paperwork as I used to because of computers.

I more or less have a system, although it will need to be refined. Small collections can go in the filing cabinet. Larger collections go into binders. Stuff I don't want goes into a pile to be tossed/shredded.
However, in order for me to make some headway with it, I would need to spend several hours on a weekend or consecutive evenings working on it. It's not a 10 minutes here, 15 minutes there thing at this point.
Once I finish my Master's my next goal is to get my paperwork filed and dealt with ... and as much of it scanned as possible! Our family has decided much the same thing.
We might get little things for each other if we happen to see something that reminds us of a person or that we know they'd love. And these days it tends to be cards more than gifts because of the mailing factor and fact that we all have more than enough "stuff". I have an album that I put cards in.
And I sent my parents an Amazon gift card at Christmas because I know there are things they'll get ... music, books ... and that's so much easier than them sending me a list of what they've got so I don't get duplicates.
But I think the only way we'd buy household items is if we knew the person needed something and couldn't afford it ... and we wouldn't wait till Christmas.

Although I had coded my first website in HTML from scratch, when I decided to use Wordpress, what really helped me was to join a Wordpress group that meets every other week. Our bathroom is definitely on my list for when I've finished my Master's. I know there is a lot of stuff in there which is just simply old. Part of me has wanted to keep it ... just in case ... but I'm at the point now where I'd like to get rid of it.

My word for 2020 is "pause". I need to take a moment before making decisions on what to eat or do to think if it is the right thing for me. I am looking forward to getting back into a routine.

Pip - Are you moving to CA to be closer to family? How will moving from a state with no state income tax to one with state income tax affect your retirement income? We were glad to not have that complication when we moved to WA. Glad Yogi is doing well being an only.

Busy day today.. my best friend is up from North Carolina and the whole family went out for a walk on the trail got exercise and gabbed at the same time.. trying my hand at intermittent fasting so didnt eat a whole lot today but drank tea and water....
Had homer over for a few hours but poor boy wanted back home he just sat at the door and cried unless I was holding him..
Paid 1/2 of the tour and will pay the other 1/2 over the weekend6 -
Happy New Year to all.. Thank you to so many for all the kind words of support as my sister and I work through the legal steps to solidify the settlement agreement we think we worked out with family members in the first half of Dec. And more importantly for the caring and support for the medical situation of my sisters brain tumors. The kind words shared have helped much this month and wish I could express how much the kindness has meant.
My sister and I have been partners for many years... she is my sister and best friend. She never has liked the suction dredging because she gets so cold when diving. She has done her gold extraction out of the water, in more traditional mining ways, the last few years. :-) and I continue suction dredging.
Hopefully my sister will have her diagnostic tests at the end of this month. The steroids and the anti seizure medicine should have reduced the edema around the tumors.... enough to possibly get tissue samples for pathology. It will be good to get a diagnosis and know options. It's hard not knowing. So far she is tolerating the medicine well and although there are some times of numbness on her left side and bouts of trembling, there haven't been any seizures since early December.

Had a lazy New Year's Day. Went out and got my Christmas present from my husband. That may sound silly, but since he has died I have gotten myself something for my birthday and Christmas and say it is from him. I usually get something I want that I would not typically buy for myself, and it can't be anything I need. Last few birthdays I have bought rings. Christmas gift this year is a red Columbia parka. I really like the style and it was on sale at a decent price.
Got laundry completed and cooked pork and sauerkraut for dinner. Was good to be back to my normal eating.
My calorie goal for maintenance is around 1650. I am typically a bit under that since I am not certain this is my actual maintenance weight.
Will be bak to work tomorrow, leave early for a hair cut and then to the gym (which I have missed).
If I have a word for the year, I think it is finish--specifically to finish house projects so the house is in decent shape by the end of the year. Plan on retiring in 2021 and don't know if I want to sell and move to Arizona to be close to grand kids or not. If I have the place ready, I will have clearer options. Really just need to replace interior doors and do some updates to basement bathroom. Also remove old basement ceiling (partly water damaged due to my husband breaking a 90 gallon aquarium). I have funds set aside to get doors done and much of basement I can do myself. Just a matter of getting my butt in gear and finishing.
So sorry for those of you having difficulties in your life right now. It is difficult watching those close to us struggling.
Still feeling a bit jet lag--off to bed and back to work tomorrow.
