I had planned to run a 12k course with a couple of friends, but plans changed and we did a 5k course instead. The added bit was searching for open bathrooms (failed). I'm kind of operating without a plan at the moment, but this week was somewhat unusual with 3 speedworkouts and 2 trail runs, and no long run. I don't have a plan for this coming week either. My goal was conservative at 120 miles for the month and I'm on track for that.
Sorry, I'm behind on posts. Will try to catch up with you all tomorrow.4 -

I ran 10 miles this morning. I tried to get up early to beat the heat, but i didn't get out the door until 7:00 am. At that time it was 76°F feels like 77°F with 87% humidity and dew point of 72°. It was also windy with 11-13 mph winds. And it was 81°F feels like 86°F at the end. The first couple of miles were kind of crappy, but eventually I settled onto a pretty good rhythm. I was pretty slow, but i reminded myself that with the heat and humidity I shouldn't expect my best pace. There was some cloud cover so that did help. I saw lots of rabbits and lots of pretty sunflowers. I even stopped to take some pictures.Right after I took the selfie I saw 2 rabbits running down the street coming right at me. Then suddenly they saw me and turned around and ran the other way. It was pretty comical. I ended up really enjoying the run.
Great race report @rheddmobile. I bet the fox and the crows were a sight to see.
Great job in a real race @skippygirlsmom and Skip!
@ Tramboman I hope your back is better soon!
@shanaber That is so interesting about the crows. What kind of gifts did they leave? I have cats leave mice and once a squirrel's tail on my porch. I can't imagine what crows would leave.
@pfprimo I would definitely be afraid of wild pigs.

If you haven’t yet, you might look into c25k which is designed to get you used to running 5k (or thirty minutes) at a time.
Thanks for your helpful comment I know about c25k but the program is too slow for me. I used to run more than 5k daily (8k/5mi on average) when I was in my prime, and c25k has only 3 workouts per week I like to run daily, even on rest days! (Lol well, I actually take rest seriously)
@skippygirlsmom Aw thanks, the virtual race was pretty cool. Good luck with all those races you have ahead!
@quilteryoyo Exactly! Finding your own running pace is key to remain constant, you are doing great too!
@kgirlhart Thanks for the advice! To be honest I was comparing myself with my old self, but I decided I shouldn't be hasty trying to get back in shape and instead listen to my body to set up the adecuate pace.
@katharmonic Kudos to you too! you have been pretty consistent! and nice pictures of your trails, it must be beautiful running among the nature!

Hi everyone, I hope you are doing fine enjoying your runs!
Welcome @portugal2
I was falling a little bit behind my goal the past weeks but due to taking it slow and steady ane having daily consistency I developped the stamina to run some extra km's. I think after another month I'll be able to run my original goal of 90K / 56 Mi.
Only a week left! Good luck on your runs all of you! (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)و

@Avidkeo bit late to the party but you did completely the right thing.
Dogs are the scariest part of going running. Luckily the place I'm in now doesn't have it as an issue but where I used to live there were quite a few jumpy dogs that would chase and the owners just thought it was cute.
22 minutes yesterday evening. 56 minutes left.3 -
Hey guys, thanks for the help with the dog situation
I'm just going to avoid that street.
I did 5k this morning, it was a fantastic run, beautiful clear and calm morning. Just so wonderful. Leg is still holding up, so I added a small hill, no issues.
Tomorrow I'm going to go swimming, looking forward to something a little different!5 -
@rheddmobile, sounds like a great run! Love the pics!
@skippygirlsmom Great job on your real race!
@kgirlhart Pretty sunflowers!
@portugal2 Welcome!
I am behind on my 100 mile goal for the month towards my run across Georgia. There were a few unexpected challenges this week, including word from hubby’s company about finally returning to work. We’ve spent a good chunk of the last few days dealing with that. I have also been overindulging on food and beverage this weekend. Despite that, I did my weekly weigh-in today and am down another two pounds! Slowly but surely getting back on track with that.3 -

@PastorVincent Great running. Glad you have recovered from your injury and you were pleasantly surprised by your speed trial. Enjoy your family time.
@kgirlhart Glad you enjoyed your hot, humid run. The sunflowers are really pretty.
Welcome @portugal2 !
@Avidkeo Glad the leg is still holding up, even on hills.
@marisap2010 Sounds like you are doing great with your weight. Keep up the good work.
@Tramboman Hope the extra day of rest was all your back needed.
@mbaker566 Great running and taking it slow in the heat. Speed Demon is adorable. Loved all of the garden pictures.

Race report: virtual Grandma's Marathon (seventh marathon overall, first unsupported)
I did it! Overall, it went really well. I set a specific start time for myself to try to replicate the actual race experience and to avoid afternoon humidity/possible storms, so I woke up and was on the road by 6:45 AM. I put a lot of thought into picking the course and finally went with my normal ten mile out-and-back route (which is along the Mississippi River), stopping by the lobby of my apartment building to fill my water bottles and use the restroom, and then doing my normal three mile out and back loop. Advantages: I knew the course really well, it's pretty flat, and I enjoy the scenery. Also, if I needed some minor medical care like vaseline or a band-aid, I could pop up to my apartment. I was worried about the psychological impact of stopping by my apartment building at mile 20 - what if I was hurting or tired and decided to quit? In the end I decided to trust myself and have confidence I could do it.
Miles 1-10: I was worried about the lack of race excitement, but I was actually pretty pumped. These were the miles where I had to keep telling myself to slow down. It helped that I was seeing lots of other runners and cyclists (not an unsafe number, but just enough to feel like I wasn't alone). I was feeling so good that I almost didn't turn around at mile ten because I thought I could probably just do a pure out-and-back. But I decided against it because I wasn't sure where I could get more water, I wasn't exactly sure of what lay ahead in the next three miles, and I decided I needed to trust my plan.
Miles 10-20: This was a perfect steady ten mile chunk. I didn't have to think much to maintain my pace. I was purely in the zone and was grateful for how closely I'd stuck to my training plan because it was one of the easier mile 10-20 experiences I've had in a marathon. I did two twenty milers during this particular training and I could tell that it had really helped me.
Mile 20: Back home! My bottles had emptied around mile 18, so this was nice. I was getting excited about feeling close to the end (for some reason I always forgot how hard the last six miles usually are, which explains why I keep running marathons) so I had absolutely no problems hitting the road again. I think overall I spent about five-six minutes in the lobby, but I forgot to time it.
Mile 21-22: Woo hoo, I feel great! I'm going to do it! I don't even care that I'm soaked because the humidity is high. I usually hit the wall after mile twenty but clearly this time I won't hit a wall at all and ---
Mile 22-26: Oh no, what have I done? When will this be over? Mile 22-23 was the worst because I was still running away from my house. The only thing that kept me going was that I wasn't going to be the dope who almost ran a marathon but didn't because she just didn't want to run a couple more miles. In retrospect, I probably should have brought one more Gu pack - I took in about 500 calories overall (200 in Tailwind, 200 in Gu, and 110 in Swedish Fish) during the race and that left me with a gap that was a bit too long towards the end. Once I turned around around mile 23 it got mentally easier (after all, I did have to get home somehow), but physically it was rough. I didn't have cramping (which is something I often experience during a marathon), but the tops of my feet hurt and I just wanted to not be running anymore. Once I got back to my building, I did one more loop around the block to complete the marathon distance and then I was done!
Final time: 4:48:33. I was hoping for 4:30, but given the humidity and it being just me, I'm not at all unhappy. If it wasn't for the weirdness of this year, I don't think I ever would have thought of doing this and knowing that I *could*, that's a big deal. It took me way outside my comfort zone.
My tips for anyone contemplating this:
1. Having a specific start time helped me capture a bit of race spirit.
2. If you're the kind of person who is taking advantage of course offerings like fruit or little cups of beer or candy, make sure you're accounting for the absence of those when you're running an unsupported race. I am the kind of person who usually takes in 1-300 calories of "fun stuff" during a typical marathon and I didn't think about how the lack of those would impact my fueling during the last six miles.
