Happier January 2022

Wimped out on taking dogs to powerline. Joe took them out to the parking area and they came back in SOAKED. Continued pouring down rain all day.
Walked in place watching 4 recorded Jeopardy! Shows to make step goal so now I’m pooped.
Lighter, lovelies!

Strolling today ... back/shoulder still sore.
Regarding walking speed.
I have trouble walking slowly. Today's walk averaged 4.8 km/h which is a slowish walk for me. Normally, I'm at least 5 km/h and often up close to 6 km/h.
However, when I walk with my husband, I have to slow it down to about 4 km/h and sometimes even as slow as 3.5 km/h. I find that very difficult and often take off on him. I'll be walking and talking and suddenly realise he's about 10 or 20 metres behind me.
But when I try to walk under 4 km/h, it's actually awkward and a little painful. The slow speed throws my gait right off and I start doing weird things with my hips which starts to get a bit painful.

Smiles aside, there is some evidence that walking fast can be beneficial for more than just burning more calories.

Yesterday I went in for a mammogram. The technician was very good at her work and I was not too uncomfortable or embarrassed. I was able to see the images, and that helped.4

Good morning, afternoon or evening, y'all, whatever the case may be...
I'm sitting here watching Egg (the cat) with the zoomies - she's chased her tail around two or three times, hidden a straw under the rug again, and just galloped off into the kitchen for unknown reasons. She wants me to let her outside, but as soon as she figures out it's cold out there, she won't go out anyway.
I've been reading my usual sources on the Internet this morning since about 3 a.m. Slept for nearly ten hours all told, unusual for me, but always needed. My energy levels feel like they're double what they were yesterday.
Wrote out a whole long thing about all or nothing thinking and then deleted it. You're welcome. In the end, what matters is that we are healthy and happy, loving and loved. The rest is often much less important than we think at the time.
Time for my second cup of tea, and to get a lunch packed for Corey.
Love y'all,
Later,
Lisa
I keep wanting to ask and forgetting - Karen in VA, are y'all doing OK? I keep seeing pics of the snow stranding people in Virginia on the highways. Doesn't look like fun...

Thinking about my friend today. I know she is feeling so conflicted about not being able to be with her sister in the way she would like to. It just heaps complications on her own grief. She is alone in her house with piles of paperwork to do for the death.
She was my best friend at university, then we stayed close through the years. It's always been an intense friendship, from her side more than mine, because she had no children. Her sister and a couple of friends were her life, along with her partner. I feel about her more like a close sister than a friend, with all the ambivalence and emotion that implies.
So, I'm in a very brooding mood.

Hi all,
Thank you for starting this thread.
Covid has led to a lot of time home and a lot less activity. But I'd be lying if I said the plague was where it started. I dropped off a regular routine of healthy eating/exercise 10 years ago and have the pounds to show. My practices before were hardly perfect. Reversing and regaining health is a top goal for this year.
There are a hundred reasons for wanting this for myself. I know that if I put in the work it will be rewarding. I'm trying to arrange as many ways as I can to keep engaged on the goal.
I want to celebrate others who are hammering away at their goal. I want to absorb your positive energy as you find ways to achieve.
To my fellow resolutioners...fight the good fight.

Good morning:
Glad to hit the mid point of the work week. Tuesday went better than Monday. It is distressing seeing how many staff are being hit with covid, but nothing I can do about it. Talked with Health Commissioner yesterday to see if he had any ideas of anything different we could do-he doesn't. We will just stay the course through this upswing.
Gym went well Monday-good workout. Yesterday just morning stretches and short evening walk since I had to stop by store on way home. Doing a few stretches this am, then gym afterwork. Have first ladies' group meeting tonight since before Christmas. That should be nice.
Heather-you are correct-this life is short and we need to be nice. Just now received word that my niece who was in her early 40s passed away last night. She had battled cancer for over 5 years. She leaves behind three children-the youngest is 18. With the lack of quality of her life, this is a release.
Good luck to all those experiencing the could weather right now. We are fortunate where I am although the wind is supposed to kick up today and a chance for snow tomorrow.
Off to start the day.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Heather: That’s tragic. As you say be kind to each other, and don’t put things off.
Live today! Fully in the present!
Carpe diem!
Ginny: So sorry about your niece. (((Hugs))) and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 To the family at this sad time.
We were out early this morning to do our weekly shopping. The weather has turned bitterly cold, so happy to be home and warm for the rest of the day.
Love

Hmmm. I know walking is marvelous, but I wish my dad wasn't so dedicated. He is out walking between the mounds of snow at seven am. He can't hear traffic but he will walk in the street. I can't stop him. At least now he carries a phone. And Monday he did walk/climb stairs for an hour inside the house. He will likely be okay but it makes me worry.

Annie, Would he wear a blaze orange hat or beanie? That might help ease your mind a bit.

GINNY I am so sorry about your niece and your family. That is so young.
HEATHER I'm sorry about your friend, their families and complexity of it.

STRICT/STRUCTURED EATING or FLEXIBLE EATING
sticking to a strict (or firmly pre-planned) eating plan has never worked well for me.
I've certainly attempted that countless times!
It's so nice that it does work best for many of you!
Different strokes sort of situation !

Work not going great today!
Not best day but not the worst either.
Could barely sleep last night till way after 3 am.
So worked a bit on an online thing.
Unsurprisingly I was very groggy this morning.
Jumped on the stationary bike, cleaned a bit, went for a coffee, ran some errands did some admin stuff, while my brain was waking up.
Not having the easies ttime sinking into the heart of hardest work today but need to get to it.
I need luck, courage and all that sort of stuff.
It's cold and sunny out today.
