Hugs to all especially Heather, Ginny, and Kay.
I had eye appointment today. One year ago I was told I had cataracts beginning. Well, apparently they got bad quickly. When my night vision was tested I totally failed the left eye and was only about 30% good in right. Now the conundrum...I can get surgery on both in Feburary and it is scheduled, but I am going to the Charlotte speedway March 8th to drive the track in a gt500. Almost 3 weeks after second eye....oldest daughter and my DH think if they got this bad this fast I need to follow through with surgery. I would rather wait til Fall. I guess I will talk with eye dr more tomorrow. Experiences with cataract sugery?
Exercise calories... mfp already figures in a deficit, so they recommend eating the calories. I am more like Machka and eat more if the physical exertion is there. I rarely eat all of the extras though to allow for so so measuring and calorie counts. Logging is important as well as reaching yourself to listen to hunger cues.
I am exhausted and heading to sleep .
Machka Your getaway sounds wonderful!

Kylia - my mom went from mild cataracts to almost complete blindness in 6 weeks. She had the first one done, 2 weeks later the 2nd one, and had 20 20 vision in 2 days. she has not worn glasses since (6 months or so) and she had been wearing glasses since she was 7 years old.

Machka: I love reading about Rhody's adventures with you. It's wonderful that you have him leash trained and comfortable travelling. Do people stop and gawk at you walking a cat on a leash? When I walk Mars, total strangers stop their cars and talk to us. We have been walking him for 11 years now and the number one question I get is "How did you teach him?", and my answer is always "He trained me."
It's snowing and bitterly cold outside. A few hours ago the power went out for about 10 minutes. It elicited a ton of gratitude for electricity and heat. My personal energy level has been low, and I am sleeping in much, much later than normal for me. I take short walks outside, and use the recumbent bike inside, but just not with my usual verve. I find myself sitting alot more. I'm behind on housework, which is extremely unusual. Hope this is just a phase of winter blahs which will pass soon.
My trip to San Diego next Thursday hinges on my sister's Covid test. She visited her son for Christmas, he got C19, she quarantined at home, and tomorrow she will get results. 🙏🏽 Stay tuned.
Stay well, ladies. We can do this.

One of the places I like to walk/jog near home. Today is cool and wet, so I won't likely be going out there ...

I’ve been reading along, but have found the last two days very long after being off for 2 weeks.

Usually, he's on a leash staked in the yard so that he has a circle which he can explore. People have expressed a little bit of surprise at that because dogs are often in that situation, but rarely cats. He seems all right with it. He finds out what his limits are all the way around and then sets about exploring what's in his limits ... sniffing grass or bushes, pouncing on ants, flies, moths or whatever comes by, rolling in a dirt patch or whatever. In a new place, at least one of us will sit outside the first time or two so that he feels more comfortable. He'll come over and mrp at us and then go off and explore something else.
Somewhat less frequently, we'll hook up the walking leash and take him for a walk. We usually do it in quieter areas so he doesn't get alarmed. He's not keen on traffic or noisy people.
So for example, because I couldn't load the van when we headed home (weird upper back/shoulder issue), I took Rhody for a walk around our part of the farm while my husband loaded. Mostly I just let him walk wherever he wants to go so he started down one path and sniffed this and that along the side. Then he had enough of that, and went back, then started down another path but there were people at the end of the path so he didn't venture too far that way, so we went down a third path toward the sheep a little way. He didn't get too close to the sheep, but watched them from a distance for a while.
There are lots of stops and then sudden jogs forward and then slow walks and then stops and then another jog. If I don't want him to go somewhere (like if he wants to walk under a hedge or something where I can't go), I'll give him a little tug on his leash and tell him that I can't go there, and he'll trot off a different direction.
He seems quite comfortable with it.

I had cataract surgery about 5-6 yrs ago- mine, like yours, progressed very quickly. I had both done and have had no problems with them. The worst part was the iv(I HATE them). Both healed quickly

Accountability:Chose well: Joe, 142!, readings, BP, mfp50+, steps >7400, CI<CO, CI<250<CO, H20x6
Bonus: foggy misty beach walk with Joe and the dogs, bank, post office, library, Grocery Outlet, Freddie’s, recycling, veg prep, bequest committee emails.
Workin’ on it:
Happier January 2022
6:Take 5 minutes to just sit still and breathe. Shoulda done with osteo back. Tomorrow.
Skipped play training today, along with T’ai Chi and osteo back, but the misty, moisty beach walk with Joe and the dogs was worth disrupting the schedule
Lisa “… healthy, happy, loving and loved.” truth this.
Welcome @pinh Anna in Ann Arbor! Arranging, or linking new good habits to existing ones really helps me.
Ginny ((hugs))
Luck, courage and all that sort of stuff to you Julie. You can do this!
Annie congrats on continuing both the elliptical and the yoga. Well done!
Rebecca your eldest reenlisted on a mountain? Oh as part of SAR training. How long will his tour of duty extend past his time in Guam?
Kay ((hugs)) so sorry to hear about your father’s fall. Hope you can get some good quality sleep.
Katla brava for the mammo. Skilled techs are a blessing. Glad to hear you are ok safe at home. Were your grocery shelves full?
Heather revenge focaccia and stinking cheese, you are my kind of gal!
Karleen, no need to apologize, just jump in when you can. Congrats for sticking to your calorie limit.
Sue car fixers didn’t have the right kind of fuse? SMH.
Machka the word picture you paint of Rhody stalking the steer made me smile
Kylia when Joe had his cataract surgery, the improvement in his vision was immediate, within a few days of the surgery. Hope your Dr. thinks you’ll be A-OK 3 weeks afterwards.
Rori fingers Xd real tight for your sister’s test results and your trip.
Easily met step goal today thanks to beach walk and mega shopping. Challenge will be to make step goal tomorrow as the pouring down rain continues…
Lighter, lovelies!

Kylia-I personally would go ahead and get cataracts taken care of-I would hate to wait until the fall. Maybe they can fit you in later in March?
Rorie-I do hope your San Diego trip can happen. In terms of you energy-you have been through a lot this past year. Perhaps it is your body helping itself heal.
Machka-you have such interesting side holidays. I believe my two cats would revolts if I tried to lease them. At this point they are so old (going on 13 years) trying to retrain would be futile.
We are looking at our coldest day of the winter today. 20 degrees F for high (which I believe is around -6 or -7 C). It does not look like we are getting much if any of the snow going around. It was quite windy yesterday. Strange weather, but I can’t complain. We are much better off in our area of the country than many others.
I am not feeling 100%. While my sinuses are a bit stuffy (which happens every winter this time of year), I believe it is the stupid UTI issues. I don’t see doctor until Jan. 14. I am trying to hold off taking another course of antibiotic until then so he can better assess things. This is just really annoying. I need to remember that others are dealing with much worse things! However, if further cold-like symptoms develop, I have home test for Covid and I will take one and hunker down.
Going to do my stretches to get my day started. Even if I’m not very energetic this morning, every bit of movement counts and helps us.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Heather – your support for your friend is wonderful. I’m so sorry for her loss, and her sister’s.
Rori – Sleeping in and getting behind on housework doesn’t seem like you, but you had the worst year of your life in 2021! Give yourself time to heal, woman. Hope the San Diego trip is a go.
Rebecca – What a wonderful re-enlistment site! He looks like he was having a ton of fun. It’s a memory of a lifetime.
Kay -I’m so sorry about your dad’s fall. COPD is such a horrible disease. Hope the rehab is very successful. As everyone has said, be kind to yourself.
Ginny – I’m so sorry about your niece.
Karleen in Florida – Glad you’re here, welcome to a terrific group of women. You’ll get tons of good advice on eating back your exercise calories, and probably better than mine would be. 😊
Sue – Hope your fuse has been fixed and your daughter’s safe at home by now!
Machka – Your holiday sounds wonderful and peaceful. I did have to go look up a pademelon. New Zealand in general seems to have cornered the market in cute marsupials.
Kylia – Get the cataract surgery done, don’t wait. There will never be a good time, and that lack of night vision is unnerving.
Margaret – love those images, especially the building with the swirling colors of sky.
Carol – I love the fact that you encourage your granddaughter to paint—her painting was impressive!
Allie - the big day is nearly here!
Will pop back in later, y'all,
Love,

Good morning! I'm feeling grateful today for the inspiration I find here. I'm focused on health and taking a pre-diabetic diagnosis seriously. I don't want to end up on more medication because I would not make good, healthy choices for myself. Reading through this thread is an inspiration and I'm so glad I found it! Have a wonderful day all!5

Kfhontherttrack wrote: »So, do you all do the added calories due to exercise? I use a fitbit and when I get a certain number of steps, my calorie allowance goes up. I know it’s supposed to figured according to weight loss goals, but I’m wondering if that’s defeating the purpose for exercise (calorie deficit=weight loss). It sure is nice to feel rewarded for putting forth extra effort for exercise.
Karleen in Florida
If you are trying to lose weight, do not eat the exercise calories back. However, it also depends on how many you allocate in the day. I allocate 1200 and don't eat them back. That said, it's still not working for me. Good Luck!

I knew that scale was fickle! I gained half a pound. Must have been that lunch out. Well, I'm staying home for the rest of January.
Actually I always gain weight when I start exercising more. Seems like I gain the muscle before the fat burns off. I am down at 1100 calories, except when I eat out. I just have to have faith that this will work in the long run. And log every little bit. Maybe measure some more.
But not panic and not give up.
Annie in Delaware5 -
Re exercise calories: I eat a proportion of them back. I rarely eat them all back. I believe they give me a cushion against unexpected munchies, although I have found that I am much less like to give into the munchies these days. I think that this may be one of the reasons I am still losing ever so slowly despite being in maintenance.

Morning, afternoon and evening, all!
@mrytckr - welcome! Drop into any conversation that interests you. We talk a lot about our entire lives here, because everything is related to weight and fitness, not just food and exercise. We're glad you've found us. If you sign your posts with what you'd like us to call you and your general area, we'll get to know you even faster.
I have had more sleep in the last two days than I often have over an entire week. Not sure what changed, but I know it's making me feel better each day. Lightens my mood, improves my lately-iffy relationship with my entire body. Instead of fighting, we're getting along. Nice feeling. It's showing up on my blood pressure, too, which has been perfect for weeks now, and my pulse rate, too.
Cardiologist on Monday, dentist on Wednesday.
Hoping for answers on possible resolutions for the A-fib from the cardio guy, but trying not to be disappointed if medication is the answer. It's not my first choice, but it may be the best direction to go.
The scale is also cooperating, which is helpful. Three pounds lost this week, but it might come back next week. Each month has been like that.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Fun stories walking cats! Thanks for sharing.
Machka: That is an amazing place to walk! So beautiful!!!!
You all are keeping me coming back for more. I'm hoping this connection will help me continue to log my food. Tracking those calories is very helpful! Have a wonderful Thursday!

Today the river level here is higher than in a very long time and the water is a brownish color. I am happy to be warm and cozy inside. 😊3

Did not sleep well. Weird dreams. Strangely unsettled. Nevertheless, I managed to break my PR on the elliptical and did a good writing stint.
After lunch I cut DH's hair, not my favourite job, and tried to get Bea's sooty blob out of the carpet. Rowed for 30 minutes and finished my excellent German series on Netflix, The Last Word. Then had a nap.
My friend L was trying to finalise a date for her partner's funeral, so the potential phone call was postponed. She was hoping to secure the 19th.
Delicious porcini ravioli for dinner and I made a shredded brussel sprouts and carrot salad to go with it, using up leftovers. Rather too much oil as a sauce, but I burned 900 calories so I squeaked in.
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxx3 -
I fell and hurt my left knee months ago. I had physical therapy & it helped a little bit. It isn’t perfect yet but it feels better. I am happy to notice improvement. I am looking forward to returning to my yoga class next week. Keeping my fingers crossed that it goes well.

My bone density test came back and I actually gained bone density! Weird. But good news anyway. 12 days until my trip for DOD wedding, can’t wait!
