I had a steady boyfriend at the time and I was hoping he would become a permanent fixture. I told the boyfriend I was so glad I had him to see me through the wrench. The next day he told me he could not see a future for us. I told him to go.
I did so much grieving. I went to a therapist to help me. It is so hard when the last one leaves.
Of course, now he is living nearby and has given me my grandchildren, so you never know how things will turn out.
It is so important for our children to become independent beings. That is our job.

Oh man, your son going AND your boyfriend, that's brutal friend! We are stronger than we perceive we are. Sometimes I tell myself when I am missing my youngest sailor son, "you did such an amazing job, that he doesn't (need you), knows he's loved, and you should be proud of that". Then the other mental Rebecca on my other shoulder says, "but he knows how family is supposed to be, how we rely on each other". A family is only as strong and healthy as its participants. It can't just BE. So whenever that darn kid gets stateside, we will have a discussion about this.
I told my eldest he can marry a nice Japanese gal if he wants to. (Like I have a say in what he does, but really it would be amazing if he found love before he gets out or retires).
I find it a bit liberating to now be in an advisory role of parenthood. Giving advice (only if asked to give our two cents worth). Its like we've graduated. Lee is wishing to turn up the heat and skip around the house sans clothes. Always the entertaining one.🙃😁

Today I made a soup out of leftover Italian meatballs, pasta, onions, mushrooms, zucchini, and chicken stock. It was yummy.
Then I heard my bald eagle couple screeching at each other. Such a beautiful sound.💖
Here is the one. The other one was hiding in the trees to the left.
My son is building an aquatic terrarium. He was figuring out his hand built drip system. I told him, ooh fishes and snails would be a great filtration. He's like, no just plants right niw.👍💖

going to friend's for lunch tomorrow, with a little group of people, need to bring some GF bread and maybe some GF dessert so he feels at ease. he doesn't know what GF is but was planning bread, cheese, cold cuts, fruit, and come cookies and custard pies. the GF bread will make it all good for lunch and if I manage to break a GF dessert too, he'll feel at ease. sounds a wee bit on the heavy side with no veggies announced, but that's okay for one meal guess, right? I can maybe have some carrot juice in the morning and/or veggie soup in the evening.
anybody ever get halo ice cream?
it's relatively low cal and high protein as ice creams go, but still pretty sugary...
They brought Halo into one of the stores here and then recalled it because of something they found in it.1 -
Aww Rebecca ... hugs to you ...
Vicki ... bravo to you for being bold and specific with the CEO! And kudos to the young woman who was on her knees cleaning a crappy floor!
Tracey ... hoping this weekend is a restorative time for you.
Flea ... praying for you ...
Carla ... a women's semi-pro football team! Congrats to your daughter.
Kay ... thinking of you ...
Machka ... I watched the half-pipe too. Amazing what those athletes were able to do! I had hoped Shaun White would make the podium one last time, but those others deserved their spots. As for a winter sport I would participate in ... none. I think, and my family agrees, I should just work on walking without injury!
Beth near Buffalo where it's going to rain, and then freeze and then snow and then get bitter cold again. Sigh.
We were, of course, very pleased with the results of the Australian riders.1 -
Worked today then the soup kitchen, then picked up these things for Christmas that I need repainted, then prebowled. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Jari Love get Ripped to the Core DVD.
Rebeccca – you’re a very strong woman, you’ll make it thru this
For some reason, Vince had to have Clyde’s ashes. I asked him if he would want to take the ashes to FL since the cats loved the condo, but he said he wasn’t comfortable with it. So why the rush to get the ashes before we go? When his mother died, he said “they’re just ashes”. Well, these are just ashes, and at the end of the day he was a pet. But Vince feels that he needed to have them. I honestly don’t understand.
Called Lynette, she was much calmer today. This I really don’t understand – they told her that her mother had cancer, but they didn’t tell her what kind of cancer or what stage it is. Her mother is going to an oncologist next week. The mother and father don’t want Lynette to go to the MD. I told Lynette “maybe they don’t want to worry you, since you have so much on your plate with Ken”. My honest feeling is that they’re afraid that Lynette will be very worried and the MD will see her anxiousness. Lynette just called, seems her mother has a nurse coming by and the nurse called an ambulance because the mother’s heartbeat is irregular. I know, I’m not getting all the facts.
Tracey – fingers crossed for you to be a grandmother soon
Flea – (((HUG)))
Carla – congrats to your daughter

Still here, but busier than usual these past couple of weeks. I have started my part time job with a company that provides ushers, ticket takers and parking staff to all of the major entertainment and sports venues in Denver. I love it. I have worked at the sporting arena where my favorite basketball team plays. Then, I had 3 evenings of training to work at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Ushering at any of these 13, (13!) venues is more complicated than the big arenas and auditoriums. And, we have to dress in tuxedo shirts, vests and ties. But the payoff is great. I am signed up to usher for the broadway play Hamilton, Romeo and Juliet (ballet) and a symphony performance of Beethoven's 5th. We also have the debut of a new opera based on the movie The Shining starting soon. My shifts are usually 5 hours, and I have set a goal of working about 30 hours a month. The outdoor concert season starts in a couple months, so I will transition to that when the time comes because the venue, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, is very close to home. The concerts there range from rap and rock, to symphony and big bands. I get to chose which events to work, which is truly a blessing.
Thursday morning I had a facial, followed by a pap smear (hopefully my final one ever), two fasting blood draws, and a chiropractic adjustment. Disappointed to read my lipid panel results show my highest cholesterol ever: 295. Gah! And the 'bad' cholesterol was just atrocious. Double Gah! I've never been over 240, but I think this will be a good kick in the keester to clean up my eating. I have reduced cholesterol before without taking statins, but I'd love to hear from you if you have been successful in reducing cholesterol by whatever means.
Like Kim, I also had some drama related to BP. At one clinic, they took it manually. Came out normal. At the second, it was done 3x using the machine, which hurt like heck. Results high each time. I asked if they could do it with the manual cuff, and they said they don't have one. Huh?
Lanette: So sorry. Hugs and condolences to you and DH on your loss of Sophie.
Machka: I love the Olympics. I am a hopeless sports fan, and I do live in a winter sports mecca. I think if I could compete in anything it would be the long distance speed skating or cross-country skiing. I took figure skating as a kid and I was that geek with a picture of Peggy Fleming in my room.
So inspired to hear that a 40 year old snowboarder and his 36 year old partner have won a gold medal. Power of resilience!
Stay well friends. We can do this.

My dh is like Vince- He had to have the ashes for both dogs and the cat that passed away. Sets up a little spot for the boxes w/ pictures. With the cat, they talked him into also getting an "ornament" with her paw print on it- it was poor quality, not worth anywhere near how much they charged for it.
When we had to say goodbye- he couldn't stay with her, he just fell apart, crying. I stayed with her, trying to stay calm for her.
This makes the way he acted when my dad passed away even harder- acted like just a casual acquaintance had passed away. It took months but it ate at me so much that I finally spoke up and told him how hurt I was by his actions- he just made a vague comment, something about he was closer to the cat.

Barbie - I saw that earlier today and loved it.
I had a great afternoon with our eldest daughter. We managed to get two stops in sans children. We did stop and pick Michaela up from kindergarten after our second stop. She wanted to buy a toy. Her Mom said no that she had left Michaela’s money at home. I asked how much she had and that I could lend her the money and she could pay me back when they went home.
She had $130! She spent 94 of it on a Barbie toy she wanted and was so happy.
On the way to the car I said who do you need to thank for the toy, she said Grammie, meaning me. I said, No. who gave you the money, she said Grammie. I said no, where did you get the money you’re paying me back with she said “I don’t know”. 😂.
It was her Christmas and Birthday money from her paternal Great Grandparents. They give each great grandchild a $50 bill for Christmas and Birthdays. Michaela’s is just so close together. The other $30 came from her Nana and Papa.
I stopped at Indigo and bought 6 books off of the bargain rack. It’s my favourite way of finding new authors books were 3 for $10 so a great deal.
I bought felt to make stockings for my best friend and her husband and decided to make one for my brother and sister in law too. This should keep me busy for 2 or 3 months.
Hubby is sound asleep on the couch and has been since around 730. He will be awake before midnight I’m sure.

I'm feeling a bit starstruck!
Someone really quite famous that I follow on Instagram replied at length to one of my comments about her podcast. Of course, I immediately replied at length to her reply. Stalker? Moi?
Hope I haven't scared her off!

Sorry about all the annoying health blips. Boo to aging! I love Barbie's meme.
Lots and lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx who hopes you will have a daring adventure over this side of the pond soon.1 -

Restful, bathrobe day. Way short on steps, didn’t even get dogs down to the powerline, but sure enjoyed lazy reading.
My FB account got hacked. Some kid changed my cover pic to be his face, underlit by flashlight, creepy, and sent it to 3 people via my messenger account. Followed the FB steps, changed password, deleted the messenger conversations, changed cover picture back to what it was. Hmpf.
Vicki hope your tum settles down. Sorry for your frustrations but glad you’ve found the key!
Heather ((hugs)) for understanding the problem. Yippee for the national newspaper inquiry! WOW for your famous new friend.
Katla love hearing you resonated with the silver poodle. You’ve been waiting sooo long. March will be here before you know it.
Allie prayers continue.
Flea ((hugs))
Michelle well done with Jerry. Would Lynette’s mother be open to CBD? Has been proven to help with appetite, nausea in cancer patients.
Rebecca ((hugs))
Tracey enjoy your days off. Hope next week is better.
Machka “luge” :no_way:
Barbie “Of course, I'd need a different body…”
Beth “…walking without injury. . .” Now there’s a sport I could aspire to.
Julie I think one veg-free meal won’t do too much harm.
Rori it makes me smile to think of your tuxedo shirted self ushering. Is that uniform also required for the outdoor venue?
Debbie ((hugs)) Imagine your DH’s honest but tactless (closer to the cat) response really hurt.
Cocoa and biscotti are gone, Joe’s up, time to sign off.
Lighter, lovelies!

Saturday --
Organised another cycling event. This time it was a 300 km and we had 5 riders. It was a good day for them and they all finished in good time.
We sent them off at 6 am and then started our own shorter event at about 7 am. That was the 60 km ride I posted earlier.
We finished the ride, had something to eat, and then drove out to one of towns the 300 km riders would go through at their 200 km point. We had food and water for them there. When they had all gone through, we drove back to the start to relax and wait for them to finish.
I am very tired right now. I didn't sleep well last night and the 5:30 am start was way too early. Then doing the ride, drive, etc. added to the fatigue.
Fortunately it is a long weekend!
Machka in Oz3 -
Good morning all:
I am glad to be at Saturday. Catching up on my reading.
Flea-I bet the treatments do feel like they are kicking your butt. Just try to be good to yourself and rest.
Rebecca-saying goodbye to our kids is just never easy-and Guam is quite the distance away. My husband was a total wreck when our oldest left for basic (AF). He cried from the airport back to our house (an hour drive). A little retail therapy isn’t bad (and it sound like you were really reasonable!)
Julie-halo ice cream is very popular here. I get the peanut butter bars sometimes.
Rori-your ushering job sounds awesome! My cholesterol seems to always be fairly good. I attribute it to eating fairly well (lots of vegetables, fish once a week or so, chicken) and exercise. I do a lot of walking. It may be genetics. However, my maternal uncle had horrible problems with cholesterol and they kept increasing statins (he told me when his numbers went up they just gave him another medicine). I forget how many bypasses he had. He ended up with liver cancer. I think the less drugs the better. LOVE the cat map!
Tracy-that sounds like one heck of a Barbie toy for $94! Your granddaughter sounds so cute.
Running out to Meijer this am. Don't need much from store in terms of food. May pick up some salad mid-week. Have some turkey in fridge I didn't freezer-going to cook some patties today and make a small pot of turkey chili. Defrosting a small shrimp ring for Super Bowl dinner tomorrow. May pick up some pre-made chicken wings (I like them for football). Mainly need to get some vitamins and they have the best selection. Then home to pay bills, clean, and I want to try to get up final basement ceiling panels.
Enjoy the day.
Stay safe all,

I learned a long time ago that grief is very personal and each person has their own way to deal with it. It is important that I allow others to grieve without expecting them to meet my standards.4

Today my mom got up to come to the kitchen and then she had to sit down again. She said she wasn't dizzy, just a little lightheaded. What? Then she said it's just old age and it happens every morning. I said it could be her new medicine. But she said no. It's so hard to take care of someone who won't cooperate! She still won't even take her blood pressure. I'm thinking I might stop buying her chocolate candies until she at least takes her blood pressure.

Debbie — We have lost beloved dogs. They have been cremated and we have their ashes. They will be scattered with us someday. Hopefully it will be a long time from now.
Now we are looking for a new puppy. We’ve found a terrific breeder and are looking forward to getting a new puppy when it is old enough to leave its mama and come home with us.
