Rebecca -your sister’s class did a great job, they must have had a great teacher.

Carla - I’ve used it as a table more often than not since we’ve been married. Dad fixed the lid for me and reinforced it once because I had put too much in it, just enough it hadn’t closed tightly and one of my girls climbed on it. I have a coffee and end table set that Dad built for me. Unfortunately it’s too big for our living room. We have decided that we are going to cut them down so that we have the trim work and make shelves out of them.
I get joy out of having treasured items out to be used.

You have to tell me your trick to not spend money you don’t have. I need to make that a goal.

Lisa - great letter! I think more people need to do things like that with these big businesses.

Michele - I don’t know if you can do that technique with glazes or not. I really don’t like working with glazes so have only completed two projects.

Terri - one of the saddest days of the year for me is the day Christmas comes down.

Well I made it through the week! It was busy after being off and needing to get a lot completed for the new payroll year.

I recorded an ABC Special called Our Barbara. It was obviously made in preparation for her death, what a remarkable woman she was.
I don’t watch The View but I have it set up to record on Tuesday as it is going to be dedicated to her.

It’s amazing to me every single time that one of these women icons (I think that’s a good word) pass is that the trailblazing and fighting they did for women and how they were treated happened in my lifetime.

It was such a gorgeously warm and sunny day today.

I laid out the rocks along the edge of my dry stream and moved four 25L bags of soil ... and then we went for a nice bicycle ride.

We picked another bowl of blueberries!

Hope that fixed it, SueBDew... When Corey and I were buying appliances for this house, we spent a couple thousand dollars all told, so I really used that veteran's discount a lot. Until we bought the last appliances, a washer and dryer that were on sale. When they rang it up, the price didn't go down with the discount, and come to find out, veteran's discount no longer applied for anything on sale.

I was PO'd, but it still comes in handy for a lot of things. And, they finally got it together just last year to get the veteran's discount tied to my online Lowe's account. You should be able to find out if you order something off the web whether or not his discount is working, it will show you the discounted bit, even if it's zero.

Last minute alterations to plans this morning!
We got up really early so we could get our exercises done before Bea arriving at 9. Then we got a text to say the football was delayed because of a waterlogged pitch! So Bea came half an hour later and Max wanted to come over too.
This meant giving them lunch. Plus I found some gluten free stuff for Edie to eat in the car coming home.

We did drawing, with new pencils and colouring pencils.

I was always terrible at drawing at school, so was a bit nervous, but it came out OK. Bea did some fabulous lavender flowers. DH drew a very good river and bridge. I was trying out something I have been thinking of for a while, the view from my bed.

Max devoted himself to learning his Japanese and we all joined in.
Then lunch and now we are waiting for DDIL to come back with Edie. The kids are playing a game on my tablet.

Good Sunday!
Sue I would LOVE to have someone come in even once a month to "clean" my house. DH doesn't trust just anyone to come in so he is against it. I really dislike dusting! If someone would just do that I would be so happy. Robbie, my Roomba, does a great job at vacuuming daily (except Sundays when we are home). He is a bit noisy! Our house is generally picked up, it really is the dusting for me. I will say that since we no longer have any pets (dogs) the house doesn't get as dusty.

So BP taking is going okay. For the most part it has been in the 120s over the low 70s. Forgot to take it last night before shutting down to sleep. All of a sudden my DH wakes up and says he forgot to have me game check his deer. So up I am, walked to and from the Man Cave to get his tag (about 100 feet), do the check in, and remember BP. Batteries died in machine-rrrr! Walked to and from kitchen (about 80 ft), install new batteries, take BP. It was 148/82. High. I sat for 5 minutes quietly and retook it. 120/73. DH said I still needed to write down the other number as he thinks it was too high for the little walking I did. This morning it was 115/70. Hopefully, I am just that out of shape and nothing major. Will work on that exercise today.

I asked my DH if he would do strength training with me. His response,"Do you think I am weak?" I said no, but it will help with the borderline diabetes, weight, balance, BP, and cholesterol. He said he would think about it. I would love if he would do it with me. Part of me would like it if he would walk the driveway with me, the other part of me likes that I can walk it listening to what I like without his input too.

Neither of us are inactive, just don't exercise.

I was talking with a friend yesterday and now know why my DH said nothing to me about my brainless, sit my butt on the couch watch TV day. Apparently, he has been worried about me, my energy, my anger, and my health. My friend, C, told him that I do so much that sometimes I need some downtime and me time! Apparently he has heard this from 2 of my friends and it finally sunk in. He has made less comments about me sitting in the quiet.

It is amazing that reorganizing the bathroom just makes it feel fresh. I didn't even clean it yet! And everything I did yesterday is behind closed doors, but the room just feels better today. DH was pleased and proud. He just left to go process the deer they got yesterday, so I am heading to the guest/my room to reorganize the closet. He is getting better about me getting rid of things, but it is just easier when he isn't around.

7 Slow down and savor one meal today- Fried rice with lots of veggies. So Yummy!

8 Who was your favorite teacher- Mr. Murphy, 4th grade. He taught history and taught me that things can be learned in many ways. He was always joking around and I wanted transferred out of his class as I didn’t think I would learn anything. He told me that if I didn’t learn anything the first quarter, he would approve my transfer. History was not my strong class as I don’t timeline well. I learned a lot that year from him.

I started this earlier this morning, and have since showered, got dressed, got him out the door, so will see what I missed and then get busy being kind of productive.

Machka That is beautiful! I know you said it was a dry bed, but will it fill with water when it rains? That way you would have an actual "river".
Heather UK I love that you are available for alternate plans! The downside to having my kids young and them having kids young is that I am still working, so not as available. Maybe I will get to do that with great grands in another 10 yrs or so. No hurry though! I reckon this means I really need to get my health in order. Love your creativity too!

Morning ladies
Slept 4 hours when I got home yesterday ,then I woke up and was awake until after 2 am.woopsie...
I am going to try and move my queen bed to the storage area that has been in my living room since I got my adjustable bed.
Im going to take a little at a time..
It will help alot in getting my place back in shape.

Oouuff! DDIL was quite late getting back to us. The football game didn't get started until 11.15. Good job I had given her some food for Edie!

My son gets back tomorrow evening at 10, having left at 5 this morning. DDIL says that he was so wired last night with exhaustion that he was a bit manic and not himself.

His friend, who owns the company, is the one with heart problems from Long Covid, so my son has had to step in to set up new branches in Amsterdam. They wanted to meet him in person. Unfortunately, it is an alcoholic branch, and my son concentrates on AF.

Then DDIL said, over coffee, that they can't get the Internet installed until the end of next week, despite them being promised it last week.

y son has tried his best, speaking to lots of people, because it is their business and they work a lot from home. My DDIL does nearly all her clients on Zoom. She is a clinical psychologist.
Unfortunately, the data signal at their new place is very weak, almost non existent, because the building has thick concrete walls, so she can't use that! . She is trying to rig up an Internet booster system from her friend's flat, running off the friend's Internet, because she can see her window from her room. They have bought two booster sets and will see if it works tonight!
I said, if it doesn't, then she can come here and use our Internet. She has a lot of clients, but we can find her a quiet room. The front bedroom is probably the best and I can tell the cleaner not to go in there tomorrow. We have a small folding table in the garage we can drag up there. Of course, it will be better if they can get the boosters to work, but what an absolute pain.! We had to wait a few days for our connection when we moved, but at least I had my phone. Without even data you are really cut off!
It's good to be able to help.

I've just prepped the Tandoori chicken and will do a bit of rowing before a nap. DH is out walking, but the weather is not looking at all good. He should be back soon. I slept badly last night, so I'm dropping. Someone has to be awake for an Amazon delivery.

Currently: The sound of crickets from the boys sound machine in their bedroom, the smell of grass and fresh air from the open window, the blue/white glow of my laptop screen in the dark dining area, the taste of coffee, the scritchy feel of a tag on my shirt (that I will be changing out of soon)

3 Let go of at least 5 items in your house. I am not home right now, but my linen closet is going to take a BIG hit when I get home.

4 What was your favorite Christmas gift? (this year or ever). Not counting my youngest son being born on Christmas Eve; I would say a leatherbound copy of The Hobbit from my youngest son. It is not my favorite book, but it was the fact that he gave me a book. This is the first book I have received as a gift, since childhood. It is the thoughtfulness behind it.

5 Move for at least 30 minutes today- this will be easy as the boys and I will be taking a walk to the playground this morning. Extra movement will include: playground, putting sand in the sandbox and water in the water tables, building a fort in the living room, and setting up "camp" under it.

6 Share a goal you achieved last year- I am not a gardener; so my goal of growing some fruits and veggies with the kids was met. We grew green beans, carrots, radishes, and watermelon. We are going to try again this year with a bigger garden and more variety.

7 Slow down and savor one meal today- Well, the 7th was a travel day, so the meal I savored was actually a burger and fries. BUT, it was after eight hours with only a granola bar and it was in my own home, while regaling my son and hubby with "grandson" highlights.

8 Who was your favorite teacher- My favorite teacher was my 10th grade English teacher. She recognized a natural ability for language/communication in me; a kid who had a hard time staying on task, especially when it was a topic that didn't spark my interest. Instead of completed written work on the assigned topic; she let me submit a rough draft on a topic of my choice and do an oral presentation and discuss it(just the two of us). Unfortunately, she died of cancer before I graduated. I spent a lot of time talking to her about things and she was/is missed greatly.

Word for 2023 Restore

This is the first time I have arrived home from a Texas grandson visit and not been completely wiped out or sick. I feel about the same as I feel at the end of a regular work week; but with a fuller heart because I spent time with the boys. Joaquin at nearly 6 is really asserting his independence. School is amazing in the way it changes children. It is like THE giant leap from baby to kid. DD and SIL are beside themselves with what to do with his assertiveness/abruptness bordering on rudeness. They asked for advice, so I gave a couple of suggestions. One of which is giving him two choices and letting him make more choices for himself. The second bit of advice was saying NO to him, but giving him opportunities to earn what he wants. He is a very organized and structured little guy and I suggested that they begin giving him an allowance ($5/week) AND open a bank account for him. We made up a "chore chart" for the boys and their allowance will reflect their helpfulness with chores. If they don't help, they don't get paid.
Miguel is 3. He is the 3est 3 I have ever met! lol He has to totally immerse himself in every substance we play with. Sand, hay, water, paint, glue, playdoh. He is not happy with the job, until he has poured it on his head, hands, body...giggling the whole time. He is a crazy little man. He has a keen mind for puzzles, though. He loves puzzles and all building/block toys. I got the boys a Don't Break The Ice game and Miguel spends a lot of time just setting up the game. He loves the process of fitting the ice cubes into the frame. Joaquin struggles with it; but Miguel can set it up in a flash. Interesting how different their brains work. I think I am going to get Miguel a basic learning loom for his 4th birthday. I think his little mathematical/puzzle brain will enjoy it.
Javier just turned one. He is a teeny little guy; weighing 18 pounds. But he has a little vocabulary started (mama, papa, mmmm(milk), dog, eat, buh-buh(brother)), he hugs back, plays a mean game of give and take, he sorts everything and has begun putting things where they belong (books on shelves, toys in bin, little fuzzies in the trash), he is taking 8-10 steps unassisted and is trying his hardest to keep up with his brothers.
All of the boys are sleeping through the night, for the most part. Which is wonderful bc both my daughter and I were getting 6 (her) -8 (me) hours of sleep each night. It was a wonderful visit, as neither of us felt tired or rushed. I think it helped that it was a normal work week for her and I had stated that we didn't need to "do" or "go" anywhere during the week. The week ended with a date night for DD and SIL. They were able to go to a nice restaurant and then to a pub for a drink and dance before heading home.
I grocery shopped online for the first time this week! I placed orders at the two stores I visit, and my son picked everything up and put it away. A huge time saver and gives me a full day at home with no errand running. I ended up spending less than I normally do. I have noticed that lately I have been impulse buying new foods to try with my DH and DYS. SO...I think I am going to try the online shopping instead of my usual in store shopping. If it looks like I am saving money doing it this way, I will continue. Maybe I can take a walk/hike in place of the grocery shop.
I weighed in this morning. I am down five pounds since last week. I will take that.
I am working on making out my "50 things to do before I die" list. Some of the things I have written down are easy/cheap/free to do. I just need to do them.

Well, I think I have everyone caught up on my life so far.

Good morning all. We are staying home from church today and will watch on line. Dh is still fighting the “cedar fever” which has been really bad the last few days. Suppose to be warm so I will take my pup for a walk. Unfortunately he stops at every mailbox to pee.

Heather-my grandson is also learning Japanese. He started teaching himself when he was in high school and has been taking it two years at the university.He had a very good internship which paid him very well so he hired a tutor from Norway. He did zoom calls and spoke in Japanese for an hour. Now he is tutoring other students. He hopes to study in Japan one semester and if he passes some sort of test, he will get to take higher level classes.

Kylie - the whole time I was working I didn’t have a housekeeper. I would spend every weekend cleaning and doing laundry. One Sunday afternoon I was ironing dh’s. shirts for the next week while he was sitting in a recliner watching football. it daw on me that this isn’t right. So, from then on the shirts went to the cleaners. My housekeeper is wonderful and she helps us. (We are both in our 80’s). Sh ha a key to our house and can work even if we are out of town. My pup loves her and on Wednesday he sits by the front door looking out the glass waiting for her. I don’t know how he knows it is Wednesday. Lol

I LOVE that your favorite teacher was your father Machka! Was he actually a teacher? One of my best friends, in middle school, had a father who taught there. THAT was interesting.

7 Slow down and savor one meal today... had the best spaghetti and meatballs, made by our dear friends, who regularly just send food home with Freddy sometimes. SUCH a blessing!
8 Who was your favorite teacher... toss up, in elementary school it was my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs Frizzly. We just hit it off from the start and her family ran this supper club up by our cabin, so once in awhile we got all dressed up and got to go see them during the summer! BIG treat. In HS, it was Ms. Kelly, my French teacher. She was amazing and somehow totally got me. Even to the point of not excusing me, but believing in me enough to rat me out to my parents when I skipped too many of her classes to pass, but allowing me to make them up in order to actually pass. Then she sponsored me to go to France after graduation. LOVED that woman!

KJ - Loved your long post. Thank you 😊 💓 So glad you didn't get worn-out this time.

Sue - Worth its weight in gold, having a cleaner. DH is wonderful at sharing household tasks, we are about equal in jobs, but he is reluctant at basic house cleaning and I get antsy about it. This way it saves me lots of frustration, and annoyance. She comes every two weeks for two hours, so it's a bargain for marital harmony!
