44 miles out of something goal. LOL. Today's was a 50 min run. Hope to do 60 tomorrow.
It totally sucks this whole power thing in Tx. Been there done that even without a hurricane. 😖

@noblsheep these shoes look like they're made to make you go fast. I like 'em!
@chris_in_cal you're gonna end up killing the next 5K next year.
@martaindale definitely enjoy the escape!
@quilteryoyo no advice goes unheard. I've really been thinking about ramping up the training to not Z2 and just by feel. My fear is injury and not meeting my marathon goal--which I think I should throw out the window and just focus on getting the marathon done now. I'm not sure. Still on the fence, but I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment. If it's not fun, and stressing you out, then you should stop. Running at slow paces is not fun, and I really feel like I'm getting punished for wanting to do what I want. Not sure if it's a mental block for me where I just want to keep my heart rate up, and I just get a rush from that feeling.
Nice job squeezing in the run and workout! Every bit counts.
@yirara you got this!
I'm jealous of all you disciplined runners. Keep killing it!Yesterday, I went to the arcade. My friend came along, and I'm glad. He plays at a higher level than me so I get forced to play the harder charts and push myself. Eventually, he went an played something else so I played doubles until very last set where I did stream, high BPM charts. My reading has been lacking lately. I don't know what it is.
Max 184 BPM--although u could've sworn my watch hit 192 BPM
Very last set we played couples--two people on two pads playing co-operatively instead of competing for the high score. You switch from Player 1 side and Player 2 side simultaneously.
Max 169 BPM
Today was supposed to be a pacer. 6 miles. During my warmup, I was a few cms from the hip away from being hit by a car at a stop sign. Just bought a bodycam online. My HR went way too high from the jitters. Was hoping I could bring it down at the stoplight, but combining that with me not learning my new pace, it was just a recipe for a bad start. I'll try again later.

On top of today, I also got blisters on my foot. I know my moleskin setup today was bad, since I couldn't cover the entire ball of my foot, but does anyone use special running socks to help remedy these things?4
-
@VO2Maxlet do you stop your runs every now and then? Looks like you stop moving.0
-
You did great @yirara . No shame in taking walk breaks.
@SummerSkier Great running. All those power outages are horrible. Did you lose power too? I guess @martaindale 's house probably still doesn't have any.
@VO2Maxlet I'm glad you weren't hit by the car. Some people just don't pay attention. What do you play at the arcade? That is a lot of calories burned, I hope in a really fun way. Sorry about the blisters. I've never had a problem with that (knock on wood), so I can't help you. I do wear fairly thick socks most of the time. Since you are asking about it, what kind of socks do you currently wear?

26.00/60.00 goal
I got out this morning and mowed/bush hogged, trying to get done before it got too hot. I was only about 10 min away from being done with that when I started feeling like I was overheating. I started to go ahead and finish, but thought better of it and took a break to cool and have some Gatorade. Once I finished that, I did a little bit of weed eating and blowing grass off of the driveway.
I rested a little and then did a mile walk on the driveway. I only did one mile because it was hot, I was tired, and I was nasty from mowing and had gotten into poison ivy, so I wanted to take a shower fairly quickly to get the poison oils off of my body and hopefully prevent a breakout. The streak continues.
My thighs are really sore today. I think it is from the TRX squats I did at the gym yesterday.6 -
Thanks all for the anniversary wishes! It was #47 for us - Yikes how is that even possible?
@Scott6255 - Happy Anniversary to you too! So weird that we share a birthday and almost an anniversary too! We actually wanted to get married on the 7th (our date would have been lucky sevens - 07-07-77 but that would have been a Thursday and no one could come). As it worked out our daughter's birthday is 09-07 just the reverse of our anniversary. We seem to have a lot of numerical alignment in both our families.
Love the new shoes @noblsheep!
@SummerSkier - your post made me laugh out loud. That is hilarious! Sad at the same time though. I can't believe so many areas still have no power.
@VO2Maxlet - I like Smartwool socks and have never gotten blisters from them. They aren't cheap but you can find them on sale sometimes at your favorite outdoor store. You just have to find the padding/weight you like. I personally like the zero cushion the best but also have some of the targeted cushion too. I also have some of the Balega socks but I have gotten blisters on my big toe and ball of my foot with them.
I took Hobbes the Vizsla out for a short warmup walk this morning. He isn't feeling well and won't eat so I was hoping it may make him a little hungry but didn't seem to help at all. Afterwards I went out for a longer walk and it got hot! The 2 together ended up to be 4 miles exactly. When I got home I had some cold watermelon and even got Hobbes to eat a few bites. Not a lot of calories for him but it is hydrating and at least it is something. I also went out and walked around in the pool. The water is almost warm enough to go for a swim.

You are doing great @shanaber . I hope Hobbes feels better tomorrow. Eating a little and getting hydrated is a good sign.1

Ran/walked today on the treadmill for 3.8 miles. This brings my total to 15.1 miles for July thus far. This week was a challenge due to work. I'm going to have to make some mileage this upcoming week to make sure I reach my goal of 50 miles for this month.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend thus far. Have a great night!5 -
July 1 – 5.01 miles
July 3 – 5.10 miles
July 4 – 3.60 miles
July 6 – 7.02 miles
July 8 – 4.51 miles
July 9 – 3.01 miles
July 11 – 5.00 miles
July 13 – 10.03 miles
Total 43.28 miles/ Goal 100 miles
Today I ran on a rails-to-trails path. I did an out and back for a total of 10 miles. This trail is 12.5 miles in length and was just fully connected this past Fall. I have run on the southern end a couple of times so as I was driving towards the trailhead, I decided to try to find the middle section parking area. Unfortunately, there was no cell service in this area and thus no google maps so I failed at finding it but I did make it to the northern terminus. The first three miles out were mostly up hill. Since most of it was a former railroad route the grade wasn’t terribly steep. I was glad I got that part out of the way first because I was pretty tired by the time I hit 10 miles and it was getting warm. Ended with a half-mile cool down walk.
I hope Hobbes is feeling better soon @shanaber.
@steviebee888 – I hate when work gets in the way of my running! Sometimes, we just don’t have a choice. Hope things calm down and you get back to your normal schedule this coming week.
That’s a lot of Whataburger locations @SummerSkier!
@martaindale – I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Sunday long run. Had 14km scheduled but had a friend with me so missed a turn. Added a bit to compensate but ended up at 13.4. Near enough.
As for the ginger ninja, @tarun_yadavA, no, he finished a good 30 seconds ahead of me.6 -
@Teresa502 Me too! Run/Walking helps me relieve so much stress, which is caused by my job. I am working on getting me a different training program for my upcoming Half Marathon in November, because I am not liking the Garmin/Jeff Galloway training plan too much.4
-
@yirara. I measure my runs on the run portion of the workout as designated by Garmin. The first portion is the warmup and then the "cool down" but that was me just having fun. The portion where it's gray and flat is the measured target pace for the actual run portion. I will stop my runs when I'm doing Zone 2 training to meet the criteria for Zone 2 (just letting my heart rate not get >135 BPM). There I will stop running and start walking to give my heart a break. If I'm doing intervals, I will take "breaks". Usually jogs to get me back to rest, although Thursday I did do one walk for the rest period of an interval
@quilteryoyo yeah! It's always fun. I usually burn near 800-1.5K calories each session depending on the variety and length. I usually stay for 3-5 hours depending on the crowd. I play two games. One is similar to Dance Dance Revolution and the other is called Pump It Up. Both at the beginning competitive level. If my friend is free, I would go over to his house to play ITG which might as well be Dance Dance Revolution, just a lot more intense due to the chart difficulty.
@shanaber ok. I saw these at REI today actually and thought about pulling the trigger but then I saw a higher value item priced lower than those socks, got discouraged at the price/value difference. Maybe I will pull the trigger on it now that I have anecdotal evidence. Nice run! Hopefully the dog feels better.
@ContraryMaryMary the saga continues!
About to do my second attempt at a pacer. Wish me a better VO2 Max!4 -
@VO2Maxlet I use injinji socks. I've never really had issues with blisters but during marathon training I started having rubbing from the edge of my nail on the toe next to it. I have also used balega and feetures. Both are very comfortable and even though I don't run in them, they are my daily socks. I like the slight compression around the arch on the feetures and the padding in the balegas. Based on where you are getting blisters I wonder if your socks are maybe too loose?2

The power came back on 7-8 hrs ago. The time and date difference between TX and Japan is messing me up but we were down about 5.5 days. Luckily for my in-laws it came on in the evening so they got a cool night of sleep!
@SummerSkier I saw the Whataburger app thing on reddit. It's hilarious but surprisingly helpful b/c at one point the map for centerpoint was nonexistent.
I have experienced long power outages before but not in this level of heat. We lost power for 2 weeks after hurricane Ike in 2008 but my kid was only 1 week old so we evacuated pretty quickly and didn't have to suffer through that one.
The longest I've personally experienced was during an ice storm when I was a kid in very rural east TX. We were without power for 2 weeks. Cooking and heating water for baths in our wood burning fireplace. As a kid it was an adventure. As an adult it would suck.6 -

Back to running! We arrived in Kyoto yesterday late afternoon and all of us were so exhausted. We checked in to the hotel, grabbed dinner, and got ready for bed. We were lights out by 8pm. I slept a full 8 hrs for the first time in 3 days. I feel so much better today, and basically time adjusted.
I woke up early this morning because we went to bed so early. It was raining pretty hard but by the time I had a cup of coffee and got dressed it had let up to just a light sprinkle. The weather here is basically the same as Houston so the rain felt nice. I wound through the streets down to a riverside path and followed that for a few miles. After a few days of not running and a good night's sleep, my legs felt so fresh!
When I got back to the hotel I showered and met my family for breakfast. Then we walked around, learned how to navigate the subway system, visited a shopping area and a couple of shrines, ate some ramen and shaved ice, and are now resting a bit at the hotel. I'll probably go walk around a bit more this evening.
Pics from today. I'm not the most prolific photographer but I am trying. The first couple were during my run and the last is the entrance to a shrine near the hotel.6 -

What a treat, thank you. I'm so glad your home is safe and so happy you and your family are together enjoying a nice holiday.

Another cool day. I kept it under 13 again. Feels good.

Morning all
Got in 8.24M at 08"53 today. Did a bit extra and pushed myself a bit.
England v Spain final ⚽
(Who you cheering @eleanorhawkins ? Lol )
Watching it with the kids. No Guys' / No Pub / No booze.
England haven't won anything in 58 years... So figured I should mark this moment with my kids. (Did semi final with the Guys' on Wednesday).
Kids though want to eat snacks and pizza... So I thought I'd do a bit extra today (ran 7.0M yesterday).
(Wife not thrilled 9year old might be going to bed at half-11 if it goes to extra time and penalties!)
Anyhoo...
@martaindale glad you got power back!
Nice pic of the shrine in Kyoto!
@ContraryMaryMary damn that li'l ginger kid lol
@SummerSkier love the Whataburger app! 🤣5 -
@martaindale that's fantastic news power is back on at your house and your in-laws! I'm sure that will help ease your mind and contributed to your good nights sleep. Great pictures and great running!4
-
I haven’t run since February and I need to start again. My goal for the rest of the month will be 40 miles.7

Beach 4.03 Mile (at 13"24 pace). 75 day streak.
My Sunday "Morning" run commenced at 11:00 a.m. I was talking to a morning runner friend who said he can be running five to ten minutes after waking up. I am incredulous and resistant. I'll keep trying.4 -

66.30/130 miles completed for July
Yesterday was a rest day. I went to my great niece's 5th birthday party. It was fun. Today I ran 10.3 miles. I should have gotten out earlier. It was 78°F when I started and 88°F feels like 94°F when I stopped. The last mile I was really regretting not starting earlier, but it wasn't a terrible run. It was just hot. I had to sneak into the cemetery again. I guess whoever is supposed to unlock it was running behind. I saw my hairdresser. He lives in a no smoking apartment building so he sits out in his car to smoke. I also saw a hummingbird and a bumble bee at the park.
@martaindale I am glad your power is back and your in-laws are close enough to check on everything. I have some cousins in that area and as of yesterday they still had no power. I haven't heard anything from them today, so I am hoping that means they are back up.and running. It looks like you are having a great time in Japan.
@Chris _in_cal. I can't do anything 5-10 minutes after waking up. I need at least an hour before I am ready to run. You are really killing it with your streak! WTG!

July 1 – 5.01 miles
July 3 – 5.10 miles
July 4 – 3.60 miles
July 6 – 7.02 miles
July 8 – 4.51 miles
July 9 – 3.01 miles
July 11 – 5.00 miles
July 13 – 10.03 miles
July 14 – 2.66 miles
Total 45.94 miles/ Goal 100 miles
This morning I biked 13 miles on the Guest River Gorge trail. This is another rails-to-trails but it is only 5.8 miles in length. Going out from the trailhead it was so chilly. The out is all downhill. It was 66F but the trail is next to the river in a gorge. Thankfully, I had a long sleeve tech shirt in the car that I swapped out for my tank top. After my ride, I loaded my bike and drove to a nearby state park and ran 2.66 miles on the trails there. It was a slow, recovery run after yesterday’s trail miles.
The railroad spur was built to transport coal to the main line. This tunnel was built in 1922 by the Swedes who had immigrated to the coal fields of southwest Virginia. The railroad was abandoned in 1988 and the railroad donated the land to the national park service.7 -
@steviebee888 Great running. It is hard to fit everything in some times.
@Teresa502 Great running. Which trail did you run?
Nice running @ContraryMaryMary . Sorry the ginger ninja was that far ahead. He must have been doing speed work to make sure you didn't beat him again. Sounds like a healthy competition.
@VO2Maxlet Wow. Those are long sessions at the arcade. Glad you enjoy it so much.
I'm glad your house now has power @martaindale and glad that the in-laws (and their dog) had AC for the night. Glad that you made the trip safely and are already running and enjoying the sites.
Nice running @chris_in_cal . I agree with you about the early morning running. I have a really hard time running before I eat anything in the morning, esp. if I am going to do a longer or harder workout. So, it takes me about an hour to get out the door, which means getting up even earlier if I have to be somewhere later. I guess that's why I don't do it often.
Very speedy @tarun_yadavA . Seems I recall the last time your youngest tried to stay up late, he crashed. Enjoy the time with the boys.
Welcome @b4fvjsjvd9 . Get out the door and let us know how it goes.
Great interval run @yirara .
@kgirlhart Your great niece and mine are so close to the same age. Mine will be 5 on 1 Aug. That's a great age. Very nice running in the heat.
Very nice biking and running @Teresa502 ! That looks like a really nice trail.

I use Balega hidden comfort and hidden contour. I know they also have blister resist socks.
