How to Decide On Lowest Maintainable Weight?
I'm 47 and have struggled with my weight since I was a teen, hitting highs of around 160-170 lb. (I'm 5'5") or so when I was 18 or 19, and I'm really doing some soul searching. My goal weight is around 125-130. I've been there a few times, and I always feel and look fantastic at that weight. However.... I've never been at…

How do you know it’s actual weight gain vs water weight?
I am brand new to maintenance. I hear a lot of people say they are successful in maintenance by making sure they buckle down again (i.e. eat at a deficit) whenever they near the top of or exceed their maintenance weight range. The common wisdom is to catch weight creep early and don’t let it become permanent regain. I…

Maintain Weight without the Counting!
Hi all, I am looking to ditch counting for food after counting religiously for several years. I have noticed that I can be a bit obsessive with tracking and wanted to get away from it and be healthier mentally. Does anyone have any tips on how to maintain without counting? I try to follow my hunger cues but tend to…

Why is so little attention given to maintenance?
Over the years, I have found it easy to lose weight when I set out to do so, but I eventually regain it. I don't want to do this cycle anymore. I know if I could keep the motivation going, I can do this. I think I (and the other maintainers) could use more social support for long term success. This community is great, but…

Does a Reduction of Exercise = Reduction of Water Retention?
I know that increasing exercise will result in fluid retention but is the opposite also true. I am asking because over the last week I have reduced the amount of walking I do while slightly increasing my net calories in the hopes of slowly gaining a few kilos while finding an amount of exercise which is maintainable long…

Happy 2020 to my fellow Maintainers
Happy New Year y’all. The past few weeks set me back a bit, working on our home renovation and eating (and drinking) out every night. I gained 5#. But 2020 puts me at 4 years in maintenance— and I’ll take that. Jan-March are typically the months when Im most motivated. I’m also making minor tweaks to my 2020 plan to add a…

Disappointing Realization of Maintenance Calories
To start here are my stats: Female Age: 64 Height: 5’ 6” Started MFP 3/21/19 at 182 Today: 144 GW: 140 (ideal goal weight for me is 135) BMI: 23.3 (I used SAILRABBIT to calculate) So, here is why I am disappointed. Maintaining lower weight
There are a few threads on maintaining at higher weight being easier. Are there any of you that find that maintaining on the lower end of your goal similar to maintaining at 5 to 10 lbs higher weight? Are your hunger levels higher at the lower end or about the same? Maintenance takes vigilance but when I look purely at…

What does maintaining mean?
I have seen quite a few people saying that they have kept the weight they lost (20+ lbs) for years. What does maintaining mean? How much fluctuation is acceptable? What weight gain can you ignore and keep doing what you've learned to do in the process of losing the weight? Like others that I've seen here, I get way too…

How often to weigh in maintenance
I have always weighed once a week. I did try to weigh every day and look at the trend, but the fluctuations really messed with my mind. I on,y did it for about a week. However, I was considering “forcing myself” to weigh every day for the month of September just to see if that would take away the effect that number has on…

Recomping
I think recomping is to lose body fat and gain muscle with eating at maintenance. Has anyone tried this? What was your experience like vs a bulk/cut strategy? I’m curious how much muscle growth you miss out on vs. a straight bulk. 50% Thanks!

Overweight partners, NEAT, and the division of labour
I don't want to sound like I want to insult my beloved (I'm certainly not trying to), but fit and healthy people do actually feel tired sometimes, especially after a trying day at work. And when anyone is tired, we can feel or sound resentful and grumpy. I've got a lot more to say about NEAT and the conflicts in an…

What's Your "Bounce Back"?
I'm sure there's a better term for it that my muddled brain isn't pulling out. Logging and maintaining...
This before and after shot compares my progress during the second half of my weight loss journey from 2013-19. It was taken earlier this summer. I started getting more active and eating well about 13 years ago. In that time I’ve lost nearly 130lbs in total. I yo-yoed a bit in the middle (regained about half of what I lost…
