KJ - maybe you could gift one of the wine bottles to your grumpy puss person, and she'd lighten up, and you wouldn't have it in your calorie allotment.
Pip - I recognized Kirby's knees, and it took me a while to figure out why he was looking at the name "Michelle Schafer."
That kind of day today.3 -
Happy Friday! Busy times, I'm judging auditions for youth orchestra all day tomorrow. But today is one step at a time, teaching, exercising and most important, my mamogram. I get a Rx from my doc for a breast ultrasound, supposed to be effective measure for my dense breast tissue, though some insurances won't cover it, I'm fortunate that mine does.
So my gratitude today goes to my medical coverage for both tests, a dear young colleague of mine just got diagnosed (she's 40 yo) and will undergo double mastectomy next week She has 2 young children and lots of support, but oh, how heartless this disease is.

Technology : I just adore my tablet - Samsung Galaxy. I hardly ever have it out of my hands!
KJ - You make us all look bad, except my DH. It's all in the way you say it, isn't it. What a cow! You are a blessing to the world.
Went out in the rain to buy picky bits for tomorrow evening's starter. Couldn't resist smelly cheese (ripe Camembert) and some cabbage flowers for our new vase. Of course, I then had to unpack the vase, didn't I. Love it. It's even better than I imagined and DH loves it too.
Right now it is making me very happy.
One good effect of Bea not coming is that I managed to get some of my memoir written, which I haven't done for a few days. I used my laptop downstairs on the sofa, in the same room as DH writing his novel and that seemed to help me. I was writing an especially difficult bit. I might do that in the future more often. We used to write together when we first met.
I could hear a ghostly Bea all the time though. As we had prepared for her, we really missed her presence. She is quite a presence.
Suzi - Yes, they cook some great stuff. Terrific characters on the TV. Recently they journeyed along Route 66. I have their book called Hairy Dieters on my Kindle, the 1st one they wrote. The Spanish Chicken and Chorizo bake comes from there. I use red pepper, not green. We have it often. I also make the Lamb and Apricot Tagine and sometimes the Paella.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Lisa - forgot to say that Edie went off on Wednesday to the Rainbow group, which is the youngest version of the Guides, before the Brownies. She is 6. She was all in red, tracky bottoms and jacket, with a polo shirt. She came back very happy with a 'Feel Good' badge.

I am very grateful for my phone, which generally does everything I want as long as I am patient. I am thankful for mfp which is so much easier than pencil and paper calorie counting. I am thankful for online dating, which really does help me meet guys with whom I have something in common. I am thankful for online shopping which saves so much time. And I am thankful for email and texting. Technology has been very good for me.2

Did the stairstepper today. The plan for tomorrow is to do “I Want That Body” DVD
Exercised, got dinner ready to microwave, the off to the soup kitchen in a few.
SuziQ – I used to love a sale on clothing, but lately I’ve gotten “cheap” and buy almost all of my clothes at the Salvation Army. Really, if/when I get tired of it, then I don’t feel so bad redonating it. I have a hard time resisting sales of food that we use. It seems that lately there aren’t as many coupons as there used to be. At least not coupons for things that we use.
I just had some avocado. That’ll fill me up for the soup kitchen. I know a lot of people eat there, but I’d feel bad. It’s just me. Plus…the food isn’t that great. Today they had barbecue on a hamburger roll, beans and coleslaw. You should have seen how much dressing was on the coleslaw!
Lisa – one of the things I do when I see something that we use regularly (like tp) is ask myself “where am I going to store it? Only…butter is on sale this week and next, the question now is “how much room do I have in my freezer?”
KJ – I usually regift bottles of wine. Well, Vince and I are not wine drinkers so it isn’t hard for me at all. What is hard is coming up with someone to give it to
There was a lady today at the soup kitchen who was working all the tables. I tried to tell her that the last table was mine, but she didn't understand. She thought I was upset with her because she was doing some of my tables. I told her it wasn't a problem, I just liked to know if she was getting something because I was. Evidentally, she was helping that one lady who is a sourpuss and that lady got upset with her. Well, it takes all kinds to make up the world.

Up a lb, and I know its from the pasta I fixed yesterday. Saw on my Whidbey island community page, that someone wishes piano lessons. Its a beautiful piano, with fun multicolored keys. I said I would love to come over and play it! She said come on over! So now just private messaged her if she has babies, or kids I need to factor in my visit. A nice piano playing session does wonders for my mood!💖

Love that, Heather! I'm actually also a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). 10 million girls and 150 countries across the world. It's lovely to feel like Edie and I are in the same organization!4 -
As I predicted today was one filled with food challenges.
Very fortunate to work with a great group of people. A generous group of reps fed us all day long.
Day started with bagels and coffee and lunch consisted of the following spoiler and a Caesar salad with the dressing on the side. View at your own risk!
I am over my calories for the day and I skipped the bagel! I was good up until the sweet basket. One of those little brownies contains 600 calories! In the past I would have eaten it and never looked back. At least today I checked the calories and made an informed decision on what I would and would not eat. Progress in baby steps.
Happy I am now home and can get back on track.

Anyway, I got to the meeting and one of the ladies looked at my cookies and said "Let me guess, Kelly made the snack. She is our group's overachiever and makes us all look bad." She acted like she was joking, but she has said the same about so much that I have done with my kids. I found it kind of hurtful. I don't think of myself as an overachiever. I know what I can do; and I do it. If it is something that I think others might like to do with their daycare kids/families, I share it with them. Not as an "in your face" kind of thing, but just as a "this brought me joy, maybe it will do the same for you" kind of way. *sigh* OH well, I guess you can't please everyone or be liked by everyone. This lady is a bit older than me; maybe she is ready to retire...she is kind of a grumpy-puss.
KJ (Kelly)
I just love people who cover snide remarks within a complement. It actually says more about them than it does the one the comment is directed towards. Keep sharing your joy and the "______" with those who have something to say about it.
Good luck KJ with the magically appearing wine bottles!

Hello Ladies,
OK, long epistle here of my last couple days. Working outside, Master Gardener stuff, Computer stuff. Feel free to skip.Kind of a busy week here. In prep for the HVAC guy to come clean/tune up heating/cooling system and install new thermostat, I helped DH trim back the camelia that was threatening to take over the outside unit and lift the corner of the roof, lol. DH cut, I loaded the branches into my wagon and hauled them to the brush pile at the back of the property. Half a dozen trips. Wednesday morning.Have been skimming. I see everyone has been busy, hope to comment this weekend.
A year ago, it would have been impossible to do this with my frozen shoulder AND painful midsection. (undiagnosed hernia). I was so, so grateful to be active again.
Then on Wednesday afternoon, I decided to thin out the crocosmia which has been taking over the flower bed for 9 years. It was like digging in cement, but managed to tear out about half of the corms with the aid of the potato fork. I have 4 buckets full of sod and corms, will sift through them this coming week and plop them into pots and dirt and see if any survive for the Master Gardener plant sale next May.
Another item for the gratitude list – digging, bending, lifting…. Again, things I was unable to do last year. Did them fine, no worse for wear.
I’ve been assigned additional duties with the Master Gardeners, under faint protest, which is overseeing one of their tiny Demonstration Gardens. The gal who’s been doing is has to take a year off per policy and I’ve been her helper, so I was the logical choice. I don’t foresee it being a hardship.
Today, I’ve been the computer queen. Decided to see if I could download Firefox onto one of the old computers – the spare in our office. But first, needed to make sure everything was backed up. I found a few family photos on DH’s user account, so pulled out the “big mama” backup thumb drive with all of the historical photos and documents we’ve collected over the years. Copied his photos on to it, then went to eject… and got the message that something was still open, if I took out the thumbdrive I might lose data. 20 gigs. There was nothing open, and it wasn’t changing its mind.
Gulp. So, I decided to back up the whole she-bang onto the PC, and then download THAT onto a new, clean thumbdrive. So, if “big mama” was corrupted, no problem, I had a spare. Each download took over 2 hours.
After all was said and done, “big mama” appears to be OK, and now I have a spare backup which is probably a good idea anyhow.
Some of you would recommend backing up to the cloud, but we don’t have cloud access, nor do we want it. And we are on the low end of “high speed internet” so one back-up could take all day. We’ve had large downloads time out.
If I was file sharing with someone remotely, it would make sense. And, it might in the future. But for now, I’ll store the #2 backup off premises.
My brain is too tired to deal with downloading Firefox, will attempt that on another day.
Have a great evening!

Obsessed is the word the very lazy use to describe those who are dedicated.
Kelly, I shared that comment awhile ago regarding someone's friend who called her obsessed because she believed that someone who exercised faithfully every morning was "obsessed". I think the same basic principle applies to the person who made that comment about your baking. It's a way people tear others down in order to make themselves feel superior. Your cookies sound awesome.
SuziQ. What you described sounds to me like "living intentionally". It's a great way to live without being yanked around by marketing tactics, "keeping up with the Joneses", and pushy comments from other people. Living intentionally means choosing what your want rather than what someone else thinks you should choose. I have lots of "unscheduled" time in my day but I don't consider it available for what someone else wants. Just because I'm invited doesn't mean I have to go.

Lanette sounds like a really productive day, how great your shoulder can handle all that strenuous work in the garden.
Searched through a carb-laden table today and found a hardboiled egg amongst the bagels, croissants and danish. score!

Hi Gals,
Thanks for the compliments on the embroidery, much of what I do is names on items, or school names/logos so when a client wants something more creative it is great fun. A small part of my day is the gardening even though I probably mention it more as there are more people in that part of my days.
Pip – doing the embroidery is how I make my living (a very small percent comes from the gardening). I would be delighted to embroider for you – there are thousands of designs out there for art work, but sometimes names are just what you need. Private message me and I can help, after Christmas, as I am already almost fully booked.
Kelly – crazy sour puss, that lady is not worth a bottle of wine. The great thing about folks like her is she shows off her true colors in front of everyone!
Heather – well mixing up the Edie date is a drag but so much better that you were ready days early instead of the reverse.
Yesterday was my garden club meeting and I do some of the announcements. I am comfortable in front of a group and can get my voice to carry to the far reaches of the room. We are a club of 200 gardeners. So I may not know you, but most members know who I am as I am up front every meeting. Well one of the gals stopped me at a break and asked about my plans for Thanksgiving I told her cleaning the garage, a number of others were gathered around, and I said I didn’t have family plans so was cleaning the garage and putting up holiday decorations, but I could make a great pie if someone wanted to invite me to dinner…. I pulled it off with a light but hopeful tone, the gal I like best from the group did say, I’ll get back to you. I realized in saying it there that I am really looking forward to getting that chore done.
I read and write while eating dinner, and I am done, with a few more embroidery jobs to finish tonight.

Lisa your having one back of things you use regularly is called “prepared” here in quake/tsunami/storm/wildfire country.
Kelly that grumpy puss is just jealous of your creativity and energy. Sad she has to try to make herself feel better by being so snarky. Oops I see Barbie and others (Terri?) said it better.
SuziQ its brownie season and I don't mean little girl guides. I let myself be ambushed by an amaretto, walnut, chocolate chip brownie at line dancing this evening, but held it down to half. It WAS yummy.
Lanette I feel the hackability of files stored in the cloud outweighs the convenience of being able to access from any machine, any where, any time. I use an external HD and a thumb drive.
Kim hopeful that pie (and you) will be invited to a convivial celebration.
LuciB and Evelyn great family pics!
Checked all yesterday's “tomorrow I will”s. Saturday I will breeze through the Community Christmas Bazaar with a friend, take Shadow to the shelter for her third series of shots, then dash back to grab Tumble for dog group and abstain from alcohol again.

LuciB - Thankyou so much for sharing those heart warming photos with us. What a wonderful occasion and what a blessing to have so much family all together.
Bit grey outside. I hope to fit a run in this afternoon, but the weather may not cooperate.
Looking forward to seeing my son this evening. I've decided not to serve the Apple and Cinnamon Cake for dessert. The Camembert that I bought is stinking out the utility room and needs eating. My DH is complaining. I will send it back with my son to finish off! Otherwise I will eat all of it.
My son doesn't drink alcohol, so I have a bottle of AF rose wine in the fridge. Starters are : chilli and coriander prawns, stuffed vine leaves and jalapeno and garlic stuffed olives. Just to pick at in the living room. Main course at the pink and blue dining table is skate in black butter with capers and a mixed leave salad. Then stinky cheese and other cheeses for DH. I will eat moderately.
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx2 -
We went through these 30 Days of Gratitude in November last year. I won't suggest that we do it again this year, but it is still something to keep in mind as we go into the holiday season.

All right ... it's mid November and this will take us through to mid December ... just in time for Christmas!!
Day 1 - November 15 - Smell: My sense of smell is limited and my husband no longer has a sense of smell (or taste) since his accident. However, I can catch a faint scent from the roses and freesias he has grown, which are all coming into bloom.
I'm thankful that he has been able to garden and that we have so many lovely flowers and veggies growing and blooming.
Feel free to participate, if you want.
Machka in Oz
Day 2 - November 16 - Technology: My laptop, my phone, email, facebook ... the fact that technology exists! It's what I do ... it's what I learn ... it's how I communicate with family and friends.
Machka in Oz1 -
SuziQ - I agree with you, there are many times I think that I have an easier schedule with my work life than the other respondents on this thread, who are constantly on the go.
I really appreciate my employer ... they've been remarkably flexible with my situations.Your thought on sales, etc., is the same as mine. I don't use coupons unless they are for things that I use now, and I don't pay attention to the vast majority of sales items unless they're something I use all the time. And then, only in rare occasions will I buy in bulk. It's why we keep deciding not to get a subscription to the warehouse stores like Sams or Costco. It's not a savings if something can't be used before it goes bad.
I quit using coupons years ago because 90% of them were for things I didn't need or which I could get less expensively if I purchased a different brand. And they aren't commonly used here. When I was in Canada, I looked into getting a Costco membership and decided it wasn't worth it. I even went to a Costco once with a friend and out of a whole store full of stuff I could have purchased, I think I ended up buying a pack or two of toilet paper on for a good price. That decided it ... a membership wasn't worth it.One thing I cannot seem to shake, even though I can go to the store anytime I want to, is buying one extra of those things I do use. I have one back of all toiletries, and all the canned, boxed or jarred things we use regularly. I truly despise running out of anything, and just about never do run out of anything other than refrigerated items--and for refrigerated things like condiments (mayo, mustard, ketchup, salad dressing) where the jars are shelf stable, I have an extra one of those in the pantry too. As soon as the extra one moves into use, the item goes on the list.
Still not sure if that's just good organization or slight obsession. Perhaps a little of both.
Toiletries ... I've been a little bit of a hoarder of toiletries ever since a really bad couple of years when I didn't have money for such things. My mother inadvertently played right into those hoarding tendencies! She started selling Avon and started giving me samples and this and that for birthdays, Christmas, etc. etc. I ended up with cupboards and drawers full! Then I moved into a little suite in my parents' basement while I got my second Bachelor's degree (grad 2009), and the close proximity meant that I got even more toiletries!!
Because I didn't want to throw them all out, I ended up packing them and they were shipped to Australia!!! It's 2019 now and I've still got some of them!! .However, it's at the point now where I will have to go through everything and toss a lot. One of my largest collections is hand lotion ... I don't know how I ended up with so much of that stuff and I don't use it!Yesterday was an amazing day, full of people who respect my abilities and trust my counsel, and people that I trust and respect in return. Got a number of items in progress that needed movement, and a few things that were sunsetted that needed doing so as well, and a clear path to the next steps. Truly wonderful day, and well worth every mile I drove.
Off to my day,
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Would it help if there were a "table map"? Do it up in PowerPoint -- just squares or circles, without names. Laminate it, and write your names on your tables each day with a whiteboard marker. Then everyone knows.
