I loved all the positivity, you're all super great and it was great to hear you say nice things about yourselves.

Welcome back Laura, glad you had a great trip. Highclere Castle is only 7 miles from my office!

I confess that complimenting myself makes me feel... Guilt. Like I shouldn't be saying such things or I'm telling a huge pack of lies. :/

Why??? Do you ever wonder about what in your history or childhood causes this? I always do. Because I don't feel guilt but I sure don't like myself much. And logically that is sad.

I'm really not sure, but I do wonder. For me, I think it's most likely because I was very overweight as a child--that takes a huge toll on self-esteem and self-confidence, especially when it starts at a young age. That's possibly why it feels so wrong to like myself, because everyone seems to think that fat people should despise themselves--and many do. :-/

I think for me it was middle child syndrome and really tough parents. I was never the prettiest, smartest, the heavy kid, and always socially awkward. With 5 kids there was always someone better! Plus my parents always found faults, never positives. You could always have done something better. Luckily age has made me care less, and I have turned out OK, but I still feel like the fat, awkward, struggling kid sometimes. So I have a split personality on this one. :)

I think you have turned out more than ok, fabulous actually. There is also 5 kids in my family so I totally get the feeling that there was someone always better, thinner, smarter or more athletic. Even when I went home this weekend the feeling of inadequacy crept in a bit although I did my best to ignore it.

I'm one of 4, but being the only girl I never felt overly competitive or compared to my brothers. Plus I was lucky (humble brag!) in that school came easily to me so I always got the best grades anyway. I think I put more pressure on myself than anyone else ever did (think Lisa Simpson when she gets a B- after skipping a grade). The main disadvantage to being the only girl though is I think I got most of the body issues in our brood. My brothers either didn't care, or perhaps didn't notice my mum's negative comments (both about herself and us). I was hyper-aware of it from the age of about 8. I am going to try really hard not to repeat that particular cycle!

I am going to do a bit of grumbling, so please feel free to skim on by.

My work is really ticking me off this week. A coworker is on holiday, and she is the only one who knows how to do her job. They refuse to ever train anyone, but then I'm expected to know how to do everything when she's away. I have people coming up to me constantly to ask where things are kept, if certain things are done, etc. and I want to yell at them I DON'T KNOW! There is one tiny task she showed me how to do, and I was shown the day before her holiday started. She knew she was going to be away, why couldn't she have started training me on it a week or two before? I kind of feel like its a job security thing for her, if no one else knows her job, she can't be replaced.

    Okay, venting over.

Now, I AM that coworker, and I hate it. It's not for lack of trying on my part, but 1) nobody wants to learn to do what I do (my manager included), and 2) They refuse to give me time to train anyone. I've taken it upon myself to get the barest of daily tasks covered by several other people, but it's ridiculous. If I take more than a couple of days off in a row, I come back to a nightmare. And usually get calls/texts while I'm out.

Heaven help them when I eventually put in my notice.
(Assuming that there is ever a worthwhile job opening...)

I'm late chiming in on this but when I first started back at my work I worked with someone like @shibaears did. We got a specialized system for our trucks and she learned it and only showed me the bare minimum. She went on holidays for a week and I taught myself to enter the cheques, she was really mad when she came back about that.

That was because she liked to feel irreplaceable, and had already been dealt a blow as I was recruited back from my new job because my bookkeeping skills were much better.

Now I've tried to show the last two people I've worked with parts of my job and they either don't learn, do them so poorly I have to redo them, or just don't do them so it takes me 3 weeks to get caught up after 3 days off.

Hi! I'm popping in to try and catch up a bit. My mom is doing somewhat better, but still having issues. I sprained my ankle trying to help her carry stuff to her car. Yay! School starts for my kids on the 31st, so I'll have more time to devote to MFP very soon!

Glad your mom is doing a bit better.....did they ever clear up that mess with your sister?

Kind of. The police basically said they don't care that much about that particular thing she did in the grand scheme of her rap sheet. I think in her messed up brain, she really didn't think it was a problem because she was only a witness so in her mind it wasn't causing me any trouble. She is starting court mandated rehab in a few weeks.

I wonder how a court mandated anything will work. I would think she would have to want to change for it to be effective.

Sometimes, not always, but sometimes, once they start the program and are detoxed and clean, they realize how much better they feel and want to try and stay that way. They can think clearly for a moment.

Not happy at all with my body right now so having difficulty coming up with reasons to like it, frankly, so I keep avoiding this thread.

Your friend and her family are in my thoughts though, @MelissaPhippsFeagins.

And @KylerJaye, at least you spotted that one quickly. You need a reality show at this rate!

This makes me sad for you. If you can't think of anything yourself, think about what your husband would say. This is what I do when I'm having a bad day. I can always list 5 things without thinking that I know he genuinely loves about my body. I bet you could too.

PS: Every photo I have seen of you, you are cute as a button.

I confess that about 2/3 of my desk (it's a big U shape) is currently covered in paperwork that I have to complete on my employees annually, mainly competency assessments and mid-year reviews (they changed the formatting so we're a little behind this year). I could make it all tuck away nicely and get it out as I need it...but I look so much busier this way. >:)

Mine is all tucked away in boxes under my desk because I got tired of looking at it.

I gotta get in on page 1500!!! I can't believe we've kept this going for 1500 pages, yous guys!

I love you all, good day!

I keep meaning to ask have you seen the step daughter lately? How are things on that end?

She came over (for the first time in 3 weeks) last Thursday with her new boyfriend. I had NO idea she was coming because she didn't bother telling anyone beforehand. I was not up for having a house full of people after coming home from a major workout, so I separated myself from everyone as long as I could by taking a shower. My mother was also at my house when I got home. When I got out, my mom was gone, but SD and BF were still there, and stayed for a long time of which she never introduced me. I didn't really care I was just hungry and wanted them to leave so we could eat dinner and run our already scheduled errands.

I try not to talk about that relationship because it isn't much of one and I just get upset when I think about it too much. I do appreciate you asking though.

I realized the above statement made me sound like a total jerk, but she never lets us know she's coming so we can properly plan something, she just shows up with a tagalong.

I hate, hate, hate unexpected company especially when I am hungry or have things planned to do. She sounds like she hasn't changed any.

Sorry if I upset you with my asking. Just tell me to butt out lol

Me too, @MoHousdon and @riderfangal. We moved into our apartment three years ago, it has one of those buzzers you have to connect to a phone line and we had problems with getting it hooked up...three years later, we haven't ever gotten it fixed because it means no one can show up unexpectedly. I mean, someone can show up and call one of us, but if we don't answer or whatever we're safe, haha. It is SO WORTH the minor inconvenience of having to go down to the lobby to meet visitors.

Hah my front doorbell doesn't work either and I haven't bothered to fix it. Oops you knocked must have been upstairs and didn't hear you >:)

Not only do I not have a doorbell, but GPS will not take you to my house either, you'll end up in a lay-by on a nearby road instead. I am unfindable. We rather like it (apart from when the delivery man can't find us either).

So... I picked up some muffin thingies in my pantry yesterday and saw that they had these tiny (REALLY tiny) bugs on them. I freaked and threw all of them away. Then I noticed that there were more crawling around in there. I started inspecting items in my pantry and found them on a couple more things. They are really hard to spot because they are so small. I would have thought they were just spilled spices or something if I hadn't noticed them moving.

Has anyone ever had this problem? I think I'm going to have to throw away EVERYTHING in my pantry... including my entire stock of spices, and I don't want to do that. I investigated them and don't SEE any bugs in there, but who knows? There could be eggs... ughh. I looked up advice and learned that most of the time these bugs are introduced into your home via goods that are not stored properly at the grocery store. :(

Regardless of logic, you aren't going to sleep easy until you clear that pantry out. I know I wouldn't!

Shooting update: This gets weirder and weirder. It was not an attempt to rob the gas station. Both of the people involved work in the same plant with Zac. He only knows the one whom he carpools with, but the two had apparently been in a heated argument at work and while Zac was inside paying, the guy who got shot saw the guy he was mad at and sucker punched him before he could get out of his truck. Unfortunately, the guy he started punching had a gun (legally owned, carry permit holder) and shot him in what appears to be self defense.

The guy who was shot is now in stable condition, but keep praying. Stable is not dying immediately, but not really improving.

I think everyone must have a case of the August blahs.

Soon it will be September, and we will have the September awesomes! Yes/yes/definitely yes?

(It will be spring in September, so my mood will take a definite upswing in conjunction with the increase in temperature.)

I'm also looking forward to September! College football season!!!!!!!!!

Me, too!!! Boise State v Washington (our old coach) is September 4th. Hurry up! Hurry up! Hurry up!

That should be a really good game. I'm not sure who I want to win though...

I live in Boise, but I'm not particularly a BSU fan since I went to Oregon, which means I am anti Washington but pro Pac-12. I had considered trying to get tickets before I made plans to go out of town that weekend.

ARGH! Confession: It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up when people assume you have to do crunches to work your core. (No judgement on you, @jthurman3) YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO CRUNCHES TO WORK YOUR CORE!!! :s

    Sorry, pet peeve.

Confession #2: I NEVER do crunches.

LOL - Come train me so that I don't despise core workouts!

Morning all. Had quite a down day yesterday, very negative. Realised I hadn't taken my medication for 5 days. Yes, naughty I know. I get so out of routine at home on weekends, and by the time the reminders go off on my phone, Charlie and I are already out for the day. I know its no excuse.

I am just generally fed up with looking in the mirror and seeing roll of fat stacked on top of roll of fat to make up my body (sorry @girldownsouth ). I know change doesn't happen over night, but this is week 5 damnit!

I did hit the gym yesterday, did 6k run, PT session (full body work out) and a spin class. That will hopefully mitigate some of the cake batter and biscuit dough.

I'm sorry some of you guys are struggling with motivation. Is there anything we can do to help? What motivates you? Challenges? Accountability? Work out buddy? Competition?

I think we all need some more positivity in here. Changes won't be instant so we need to find a bit more happiness in who we are right now. So I want everyone to share something that they like about themselves now, not something that could be good after losing some weight, or with a bit of toning, but something about you that is already great. Because other people don't look at you and only see the negative, especially if you are focusing on the positive yourself. And your much more likely to succeed in the long run if it's not all a means to an end.

So I want to hear all about your great long legs, pert bums (@MoHousdon, I'm looking at you), delicate wrists, emerging collarbones etc. Go and look in the mirror and find something that makes you smile, right now!

I'll go first and say that I like my waist. I appreciate that whatever size I have been I have distinct curves, and that makes me feel better about myself.

Okay, I have to stop checking in again after this but here is what I like about myself:

    I am smart
    I am creative
I am really hardworking (I feel like we did this before but I'll repeat myself :))
I like that I do things not everyone does and am willing to try new things
I like that I don't have talent in a lot of things but don't care, I do it anyway (ride, run, bike, swim)
I like my taste in shoes (and I like shoes!)
I like that when I decide to do something, I can get it done no matter what the obstacle is (but I don't like that I am a major procrastinator)

    Bodywise:
I have a tiny waist (people comment on it all the time)
I like my eyes (already made a comment about that)
I like my hair (I have a lot of hair, even if its not 'thick' strand wise)
I do think my feet are OK (but I don't like my hands)
I like how I look in clothes now that I have lost weight (not so much naked but ah well)

I think that is it! That seems like a longer list than everyone else, but there you go!

Back to work. I'll pick up reading backwards later. Have a great day all!

It's kind of weird, cause I don't like much about my body, but right now every time I look at my left big toenail (which is black and blue and purple and gross) it makes me smile. I "earned" that gross runner's toenail training for the Broad Street Run (a 10 miler in Philly). I also kind of dig my callouses on my knuckles that I have developed from Karate...I can break boards, that's pretty awesome (I mean, super great!).

Ooh, I forgot my calluses. I love my calluses! They are proof that I am working hard.

sorry, i'm a few pages behind, crazy busy at work, but i just need to put this one out there

    *post date update*

    first date #9

last nights first date entered into new uncharted territory for me! how exciting!

met the dude at a local establishment, but even though it was local i had never been there and wasn't familiar with the layout. this is slightly to my detriment because he arrives prior to me and the seat that was open next to him, there was a giant tv right above my head. swell.

normally this wouldn't be an issue, we're supposed to be there trying to get to know each other, but then he keeps looking up at the tv and making comments. what am i supposed to do? crane my neck around to try to see what the heck is going on? yeah, not so much.

so i'm trying to make nice casual small talk, but when he says anything it's really low and kinda mumbley, so i keep asking him to repeat himself and to please speak up. which he doesn't do.

talk about jobs, locations, hobbies, the norm. then apparently the story about the two women that were the first to go through some special military program pops up above my head. he makes a comnment on how he would like to go through something like that. i say well go for it then, and he goes into the whole just want the work outs and training and not be in the actually military.

which then insights the meltdown. he starts going into how he couldn't be in the military right now, especially not with the state our country is in and he's got a cousin in the secret service and we have no clue all the stuff that's really going on right now. and the government is trying to take our guns and blah blah blah. and anytime i would try to say anything to, you know, attempt a conversation, he would just talk over me and tell me how wrong i am about anything.

final nail in the coffin? he then says to me, "yeah you probably voted for obama" at this point i'm just done, i grab my cash off of the bar (i paid for my own beverages) and get up to leave, and he acts all put off, and says oh what you're leaving now? and i say Yup, as awesome has this as been, i'm done dealing with your craziness. and i left.

which you would think would be the end of the story, but oh no!
i get home, pull out my phone and am welcomed with this gibberish:

"the only one crazy is u saying thst bout me im not into liberalism have nicelife ur wrongnim right ull see bye bye and ur rude lose my number thanks."

to which i kindly reply: "English. Try it sometime."

and then i got this: "yea ok ur so intelligent lol good bye listing try it sometime lose my number, have nice liberal life"

that was all in the span of 45 minutes, first meeting til the end.
after that, all of his stuff became, BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK

I'm sorry, I know that must have been painfully tedious to experience firsthand, but you have a way of expressing it that makes it sound hilarious and I was seriously laughing out loud reading that.

Have you ever considered compiling all your dating nightmares into a book? You could be the next Erma Bombeck (hope I spelled that correctly). I think you've got your title right there: Have Nice Liberal Life. :D

Yes! I would buy that book :)

Hello everyone. I haven't been very active recently, but I have been reading along. Am struggling a bit at the moment, for no particular reason. I really need to get back to exercising, but seem to have mislaid my motivation.

Me too! Hopefully now that stitches are out and I am green lighted to exercise again I'll get my mojo back. Anything I can do to help?

Great to hear your stitches our out! Any big races coming up?

Ironman Wisconsin in 3 weeks. Yikes! Why why why don't I train?!!! (That procrastination piece I mentioned).

I can't imagine trying that without training but yay!! you'll be in my neck of the woods :)

I have a little NSV and this time NS means 'not my scale' but I will take credit for the victory. My dog has lost 7 pounds since her check up in April. I think some of that was probably winter weight but I have been taking her running with me 3 times a week...I really need to get back into that routine.
