Think I’m 39/50. Missed the park run so added that onto this weeks mileage. It’s still a heatwave so some runs turned into walks but meh it’s still mileage.
Last night it was 31C/87.8F overnight and set a new record today in Adelaide of 46.6C/115.8F
Hottest city in Australia today 👍🥵
Not ideal running temperature for this little turtle 🐢🏃🏼♀️
Rather looking forward to heading to Finland in 2.5 weeks for a cool change 😎13 -

I mean.... Chuck Norris bling would be the best bling. AND I would be part of setting a running world record!/quote]
Oh wow, this race is calling to me. My son is in his 3rd year at Texas A&M and lives there. He love Chuck Norris.
ETA: Dang it. That date is right in the middle of final exams. But eh, who am I kidding. It's a Saturday, and how much will he REALLY be studying anyway11 -
Tale of an oblivious - or insane? - runner: Got up this morning @ 0415 for my planned 3 miles before work. Saw on my phone "Rain in 66 mins". Think better get going then. Suited up, head out, then realize "hey, kinda windy out here" (24 MPH according to my phone) then think "ok, change planned route, get to 2 miles, then see how it goes to get the last mile in". Get to just past the 1 mile mark, the sky did it's 1st flicker. Did my turn around, now wind is @ my back, whipping my hair into my face, a few more lightening flickers (no lightening seen yet, just sky lighting up). As I get close to the house, the 1st thunder rumbles. Decide to call it. Changed my morning routine & immediately took my dog for her morning walk, jumped into shower, then heard the rain pouring down. Talk about timing!

Jan 19: run 4 km (2.5 miles), on my ownNext week it HAS to be more running, since it'll be continuously below 0. I have to let my bike rest (rust?) for the week. *sob* Who knows, I might try the treadmill.
Well, guess what? Might be cold, but it's dry. So I took the baby out for a "walk" (should rather say "grandma"):
Jan 23: bike 30 km (18 miles)
Tonight, I'll be running with my runner club at work. As usual, I'll probably only have time for a 6k. Better than nuffin, right?
Hope everyone's well, no time for catching up now :-|

Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen.
Started out at an easy pace that quickly degenerated into a slow pace. The main roads were clear, but the street I live on was an icy, snowy, slushy mess. Looking forward to next week's below zero F cold...8 -

Broke through my monthly goal and should even break my stretch goal if I keep going at this pace.
I do have an odd question for anyone who is up to speculating. To set it up I run 6 times a week, to and from work at 2.5 miles each way and then a "long run" on Saturday of 5-6 miles. This sets me up for 30 miles a week. Based on this I can say my volume is pretty decent but I don't have a lot of continuous endurance. This sets up my question:
How long of a race do you thing this will let me do with a proper taper before hand? (my mental game is strong but I try not to injure myself too often)7 -
@7lenny7 How's the repaired toe tendon while running and the next day?
@Orphia thanks for asking!
My tendon is doing pretty good, I think. During my first couple of runs there was enough pain that I thought about scheduling a visit with the surgeon, just to make sure it wasn't unusual. The pain seem to be in the spot of the initial rupture, not at the repair, which is about 2 cm further down the foot. The amount of pain, and the frequency with which I feel it, has been decreasing, however, so I'm not as concerned. Last night I went for a 7 mile run and felt it a few times in the first mile or two, then maybe a couple of times during the rest of my run. My theory is that it's random adhesions which are coming loose as I run. I may try doing some targeted massage of that area.
The bigger issue has been a tightness of the tendon on the inside of my foot, going from the lower leg to the inside of my heel bone. A longer warm up seems to help, and foam rolling my hamstring and calf seem to help, I just need to remember to actually do it.
Call me a worrier (I am) but I'm concerned you can't feel it because you're running a lot and the happy hormones are masking the pain. #beentheredonethat
That's why I was also wondering how it is on your rest days, and how many of those you have.
@Orphia , I waited to respond to see how I felt today. I didn't remember any more pains or aches on previous rest days, but wanted to mindfully take stock today. Today there's no more pain or tightness than I had yesterday while running. I'd say the heel tightness is minimal when I'm not running, but I can feel it here and there. The tendon repair area...about the same level and frequency as when running. Comes and goes and it's only a momentary discomfort. In the moment it's there, I'd rate it a 2 or 3 on a 10 point scale.

Not sure when I posted, but last run was a week ago. Since then, I've been sick with chest congestion. It started to break up yesterday with productive coughing, and this morning I actually felt human! I'm hoping to be able to run a couple miles this weekend.
Sunday was a slow walk with the dogs, just to get them out. This morning was another, even slower due to icy roads.11 -
@amymoreorless look on the bright side - you won't have to worry about sunburn ;-)

5.9 miles this morning in perfect(for me) running weather this morning. Rain showers came through last night and cleared any air impurities leaving a fresh clean smell. Temperature at 52F/11C with a slight breeze. Felt like I could run forever today.
@ContraryMaryMary TOO cute!
@almostsuperpowered Ouch! Hope nothing broken or more injured than your pride.
@7lenny7 I looked at Altra's when buying my last set of shoes, but couldn't find any that felt comfy that the running store had in stock. Also that look the cashier gives you when you go grocery shopping after the workout and your list is obviously protein heavy .
@amymoreorless So like running Texas in the spring ? Also on the Chuck Norris 5k, 900ish miles not too far to travel for a 3.1 mile run right ? DW said if I wanted to spend 12 hours in a car to run a 5k she would go, but was not real enthusiastic about it.
@zeesparrow glad you're feeling better.
@RunsOnEspresso Even your off pace sprints weren't that far off...nice job!

Yesterday I got to run 2.34 miles. It was the last “nice” day before a big temp drop today - 22 and sunny! I didn’t even wear my jacket! I was feeling well enough to head into the gym and felt pretty good once I got there. I’d decided to take a longer route home along the lakes if I felt up for it, and I did, although I’ve got to say that the first few blocks (slightly uphill then downhill again) hurt after heavy deadlifts. I just thought about how much colder I was going to be Saturday morning and what great practice this would be for the uphill portion at the last mile or two of the race.
The middle portion of the run felt pretty good until I got back on the sidewalks and hit the fresh-ish semi-packed snow. Then it was a bit tough again. I am definitely going to appreciate clear sidewalks come summer! Also not having to spend a bunch of time putting on clothes before going outside. I know I’ve mentioned it, but these shorter runs home from the gym have really been nice in the cold weather - I’m wondering if it might be worth spending 10-15 minutes on the exercise bike or doing calisthenics before heading out for my longer runs just to get my blood flowing.
Weather projection for Saturday: -3 at gun time, -13 wind chill.
@MobyCarp: That is really neat volunteer work - I could see myself enjoying something like that. Were you a tax professional before you retired or was that something you fell into sideways? Since you mention training I assume it’s through some sort of organization? I was interested in tax in law school (though it never went anywhere professionally) and my husband’s primary practice is in property tax appeals.
@Azercord: I’m curious to see what some of the more experienced folks would recommend. I’m planning on running a 10K race this weekend on a third of your weekly volume but similar length long runs, and ran both of my half marathons last year on 20-25 miles a week but averaging around 10 miles on my long runs. I don’t personally think I’d feel comfortable running a race significantly longer than my long runs, but I suppose that margin increases the longer your races get - half marathon is my distance PR so far!

Morning guys. Was supposed to run today but I had one of those nights where I felt like I just dozed all night so I turned off the alarm and decided ill see when I wake. Woke about 20min too late to run.
I've taken to doing a short 2k run on the treadmill before my strength training session on days I don't run in the morning. I'm actually enjoying that... Something. Uat be wrong with me.
It's the end of week 2 of my new self imposed program and so far so good. I enjoy going to the gym at lunch. Its nice to actually get away from the hospital and have me time.
In non running news, I met a professor yesterday who is considering being my supervisor for my masters, and got along with him really well, and he's interested in my research ideas so that's good news. Now need to fingld a co supervisor and get it all set up! Very excited. I'll probably be extending it out to a PhD but starting with masters first12 -

@MegaMooseEsq that would be a great idea. For a 2.3 mile run, you're just warmed up and it's time to stop.
Get ready for the deep freeze! I hear wind chills could get in the negative 40's (F or C, your pick) Tuesday through Thursday next week. Yes, I'll be running in it, but it will be 1 mile loops near my house where I'm no more than a half mile from home at any point. My PR for low temp running is -32F/-36C wind chill and I'd love to beat that. I figure I have to run at least a mile for it to count.

@Azercord consistency is king and you've got that. I was reading just last night, an article written by a well regarded running coach, who said that going for even a 10 minute run when you're short of time, vs. skipping it all together, will pay off in the long run because of the consistency it provides.
Your questions begs another question...how well do you want to do in said race? From your numbers, I think you could nail a 10K. You do that ever week. I also think you could do well in a HM but since you're body isn't used to it, I wouldn't push hard until the second half. Run your normal training pace the first half, then push the second half to a comfortably hard pace...one you think you could maintain for an hour.
If you could stretch your long run to just 10 miles a couple of times before a HM, that would make a big difference.
Now if you're talking a full marathon, a walk/run strategy would be in order and that running should be your training pace. You could probably do it, but trying to run the full distance would result in pain and very likely a DNF. Even a walk/run strategy will likely hurt.
I'd skip any sort of taper in your case, or taper minimally. Your running schedule is your normal and assuming the race takes the place of your 5-6 mile long run some weekend, those 2.5 mile runs won't be detrimental to your race. The only thing that would make me consider a taper (and really we're just talking about skipping some runs the week of the race, since you're not going to run half way to work) is if you have any injury or feel worn out. Maybe bike to work and back twice that week?
Now you have me very curious about what race you're thinking about.6 -
@7lenny7 Dang man. That is a bit chilly. You reckon you will need a hat?0

@PastorVincent I may have to dig out my "baklava"
A run that cold deserves some serious consideration to dress, that's for sure.

Last night I attempted some running - I’m here alone with the children so, once they were asleep, I did some speed repeats - 12x250 then a 900m cool down. Pushed it a bit hard and my calf is telling me about it today. Longer and slower would have been better but I couldn’t leave the kids by themselves.

RE: Amazing Chuck Norris 5K
I was reminded today that this is the same weekend I am signed up to run a double marathon. Chuck Norris might be able to do it... Alas, I am only me (sigh).
I REALLY wanted to see a bunch of Chuck Norris impersonators running down the street. I even tried to convince my non-running husband to join me. He went through a fitness midlife crisis thing at the same time as me. I picked up running and he started KungFu training. He started watching the movie “Enter the Dragon” obsessively when he first began classes. I tried to explain to him how amazing it would be if he could meet me at the finish line in a Bruce Lee costume. We could have a photo finish re-enactment of their fight over the finish line. Alas, my husband is not the costume 5k kind-of guy. Oh well, I guess I still love him.
The Corpus beach marathon is that month as well. Why are all the good races happening at the same time? Arggg...7 -
OMG my facebook memories have reminded me that on this day 8 years ago I did my first run/walk - it was a 7k. I commented how sore I was, and further down in the comments is this little gem "only ran for about 2.5 k, and not all at once. its the blisters that are the most annoying! and ive worn those shoes for ages!!!"
bahahaha gosh if others have the same experience running for the first time, no wonder it has such a bad rap lol. My advice to anyone taking up running for the first time, get decent shoes. ignore everything else and get good shoes.12 -
Tuesday was an ok run, but a toilet call caused me to cut short by a mile and a half. Yesterday was a great tempo run with my running club and today’s run was somewhere between “okay” and “rubbish” on the scale. They can’t all be good runs!
To be honest, I’m just glad to keep running this week despite work, and family stresses.

I ran the same route today as I ran yesterday. It was a new-ish route and I think it is going to be a good 5K route. I thought I would be slower than yesterday, and I was, but only by 12 seconds. It was an awesome run too. It was sunny, about 55F and no wind. I ran in shorts and a tank top! I love when I don't have to figure out what to wear. I know a lot of y'all love running in the cold and snow, but today's weather was just perfect for me. My feet are feeling a little achy lately though. I think I need new shoes. I hate that the nearest running store is 60 miles away. When I went there before they put me in Saucony Ride 10s. I like them, but I'm just a little over 300 miles on them and I wish I could find something that would last a little longer. They also suggested some Mizunos, but I didn't write it down and I don't remember which ones. I run mostly on roads and sidewalks which is hard on the bottoms of my feet. But the only other option is the high school track which would be ok for occasional speed work, but that wouldn't work for me for most of my runs.
@contrarymarymary What a cutie pie!
@workaholic_nurse My weather was very similar to yours today. It was perfect!
@amymoreorless A Chuck Norris 5K does sound awesome! Too bad my daughter doesn't live there any more.
Good luck at the Miami Marathon this weekend!
@HonuNui Akamai looks tuckered out!
