I got up early this morning in order to drive to the facility where my cousin was supposed to have been transferred last night to fill out the paperwork for his voluntary committal. About 5 minutes after I got up, the facility called me to let me know that they did NOT transfer him last night. The VA had decided to keep him overnight. So, I had gotten up early unnecessarily. I opted to stay up rather than go back to bed. Since I had all this extra time before I had to leave for work, I went out and walked driveway laps. I had plenty of time to run, but chose walking so I wouldn't sweat and have to take a shower.
I re-added my totals for the month so far and I think they are now accurate. My goal for April was to run 40 miles, walk 40 miles and have a 6 mile long run. So far, I have ran 43.3 miles, walked 36.25, and did run 6 miles. If I get in 0.45 miles of anything tomorrow, I'm going to call it a win and say I met my goals. More running than walking is a good thing.
I called the VA after I got home tonight and they were just waiting on EMS to transport my cousin to the other facility. I called them to let them know and tell them that I would be up in the morning to fill out the papers. This lady said they actually preferred me to do it over the phone. So, I got it all done in about 20 minutes. It would be nice if everyone was on the same page, but they don't seem to be. I'm just glad my cousin is going to get the help he needs.

Fell way short of my 100 mile goal but in addition to 81.49 running miles, I had 57.54 miles of hiking with a 20-25 pound backpack so I’m not going to beat myself up over not making my running goal. I also missed a few days with COVID vaccination and stomach bug. I’m still upright and moving so I’m calling it a win!

Had a very nice 6.5 mile run this morning. The best part was the last 3 miles when it started raining. It felt so good! And I was drier when I got home than Wednesday's treadmill run That wraps up a pretty successful month. Great job everyone with this month's running achievements. Will see you all in the May thread.

Finishing up the month. Back/hip/quad injury meant I didn't intend to reach the 100-mile goal. I did hit 100 km though
Today I did my PT stretches and exercises... Sitting on a hard ball and moving it around 'til I find the spots that hurt, then sitting down even harder, is the worst, but didn't make me cry today - so that's an improvement. Then I did 1 mile on the treadmill (as an interval workout, so my weekly speedwork streak is secure) and am not sure how I feel now. I also had plants from a friend that I needed to get out in the yard, so spent 2 hours gardening, which didn't feel all that smart, but needed done.

@polskagirl01 - I know that sitting on a hard ball stretch or whatever you want to call it (torture maybe?)! I also cried doing it a few times but it really does seem to help the piriformis and glutes!
Finished up the month with a very hot run. Too hot for pups (probably people too) so instead of continuing with Hobbes I took him home after a little run/walk in the neighborhood. Then headed back out by myself and did a Peloton run/walk workout to keep me motivated and moving. Ran all the run and Power Walk segments. I took a page from @Tramboman's playbook and pulled up a 60's playlist once the workout was finished. A little Aretha, some Beatles, Rolling Stones and Marvin Gaye! Fun, upbeat songs that I can sing along to. I need to listen to that more often when I run!
82F when Hobbes and I started, 90 when I finished. It is however very dry and the breeze made it at least tolerable. Glad I got out and got it done!

This month was kind of a wash, did not all my regular runs in, didn’t get back to my 8 mile long run. However, I am now fully vaccinated so that’s out of the way, and I can’t really blame myself for thunderstorms and being sick the last week of the month. Oh well, hoping May is better!
I did see a hummingbird yesterday! So that was pretty perfect. We don’t see them often, but there is honeysuckle on the fence line and it is just starting to bloom. Exactly one flower was fully open. He popped over the fence while I was doing my morning calisthenics, looked at the honeysuckle, drank from the one flower, zoomed over and looked me right in the face, and left!

@Teresa502 You did great this month. I wouldn't worry about not meeting your running goal either with so much weighted hiking going on AND being sick. You did GREAT!

I ran out my rural road today. I did some weird loops so that most of my fast run segments fell either on a flat or downhill part of the route. One did fall on an uphill portion and you could tell by the pace on that one. I did 10 minutes easy, 5 x (1 min Zone 5/2 min Zone 1), 5 + minutes Zone 1. My overall pace was 12:21 min/mile. The average for the fast minutes was 9:36 min/mile. I was pleased.

@AlphaHowls - you are just so amazing!
@rheddmobile - we have so many hummingbirds here. I see them out on the trail sometimes just sitting on the fence watching everything. Often they don't even fly away when people pass by. We have the two or three that I see everyday out my window, eating gnats on the vines and there are a couple of aggressive ones who dive bomb Hobbes in the backyard.4 -

Finished up the month with a treadmill run. I had to get my car serviced this morning so brought my stuff to work to run later. I finished up a stressful work task this afternoon and decided it was time to get out of the office and run. But when I walked to my car the bitterly cold wind was more than I could bear. But I somehow talked myself into the treadmill at the gym and got in 3.1 miles. Which brings me to 93 for the month, which averages to exactly 3.1 miles per day. 5k per day seems not so bad!

I didn't run Wednesday or Thursday. It was very stormy Wednesday morning and we even had a tornado nearby. Thursday wasn't as stormy, but was still very rainy. I was finally able to get out for a run today. It was cloudy and I had few sprinkles, but no real rain. I ran 5.5 miles to finish up April with 83.6 miles. So short of my 100 mule goal, but my main goal for April was to run my 10K well and I did so it's all good.
Today was also my first run with my new watch. I just upgraded my Garmin FR35 to a FR45s. It is still a fairly basic watch, but it does have more options than the old watch. Plus I really like that it came in a smaller size. Now I just have to find a good watch face to download and figure out how to send workouts to the my watch.
