Dh is going to be gone for the weekend so I get MIL duty. I will only be going in the afternoon's. She can do her own breakfasts like she should have been doing for the past 5 months instead of dh going over every morning and night. He told me not to say anything if she doesn't eat what I take. I told him I will not walk in with an attitude but won't sit and take hers. He is worried about her giving his a hard time when he gets back if I do say anything. I am tired of her being allowed to get away with this, just to make it easier on HIM. She told him she wants me to just cook tv dinners for her. She would rather eat that than a home cooked meal. What ever. I will go, warm up her dinner, give her her pills and feed the dog and then I am done. She can wash her own few dishes. He does the dishes there but not one here at home.
Safeway has whole roasted chickens for $5 today for $5 Friday. Got two, already boned them out, made some chicken salad for tomorrow or Sunday. Plenty of left overs for the whole weekend for son,his girlfriend and I.
Have a few things I want to get done- a little decluttering, put winter decorations away and get spring ones out. Ezie said winter is over so put the snowflakes away.
Also need to clean out the fridges and maybe part of the big freezer.
Church on Sunday.
No other plans except HOPEFULLY sleep in a little bit each day.
Weather should be nice again tomorrow- 66 for a high today. Only 25% chance of rain tomorrow.
Rain Sunday again.

$66 is a lot for salmon! - is it Wild Alaskan Sockeye salmon?
no.
That is what they charge when it isn't on sale. No way we would buy any at that price, but at $4.88 a pound we did enjoy it and will tomorrow too. Usually around here, the sale price for this is about $8-9 a pound now.

Today a damp sea mist crowds out my morning view. It’s like an autumn morning rather than spring.
The weather never really cleared up, so did indoor activities.
(17/3/2023)
smothering morning mists
shrinking horizons draw near
no vast expanse today
Slow dissipation
reveals ghostly fields and trees
at morning sunrise
Had a great time at the quiz yesterday. We were sixth, and only a few points behind the winning team.
No Latin today as it’s St Patrick’s Day, which is a public holiday in Northern Ireland.
Just noticed that my first magnolia bloom has opened.

March Action for Happiness:1. Set an intention to live with awareness and kindness. I intend to live with awareness and kindness16. Get really absorbed with an interesting or creative activity. I am preparing some paintings for a display of my Monday Painters work
2. Notice three things you find beautiful in the outside world.Trees silhouetted against the sky; the appearance of snowdrops in spring; the sound of waves breaking on the shore.
3. Start today by appreciating your body and that you are alive. I meditate on this each morning when I wake up, and am grateful for each new opportunity to have a good day.
4. Notice how you speak to yourself and choose to use kind words. Positive affirmations are very powerful. Be kind to yourself, always.
5. Bring to mind people you care about and send love to them. We chatted with our girls about other family members, and raised a glass to them.
6. Have a ‘no plans’ day and notice how that feels. I will do this tomorrow (7th)
7. Take three calm breaths at regular intervals during your day.Resisting the temptation to plan my day. Serendipity reigns today.
8. Eat mindfully. Appreciate the taste, texture and email of your food. ✔️
9. Take a full breath in and out before you reply to others. I’m a great advocate of deep breathing, and find this works well.
10. Get outside and notice how the weather feels on your face.I wasn’t looking forward to going outside this morning as we had snow overnight and it seemed very cold. However, the sun shone in a clear blue sky, and the wind had dropped right down again, and I spent time with my eyes closed feeling the heat on my face before I went into the centre for Latin Study.
11. Stay fully present while drinking your cup of tea or coffee. Always! Gives me calm thinking time.
12. Listen deeply to someone and really hear what they are saying. When I tried to do this with DH this morning, he got distracted by a discussion on What the Papers Say on TV. 😝 However, we often have in-depth discussions, usually over lunc and dinner.
13. Pause to watch the sky or clouds for a few minutes today. The sun was valiantly trying to break through rain clouds just after sunrise, but the forecast is for heavy showers, but I’m watching the blue patches in hope that it clears up.
14. Find ways to enjoy any chores or tasks that you do.Doing the task isn’t the problem 😝 It’s getting started that’s difficult. I sometimes put on my favourite music, or listen to a podcast.
15. Stop. Breathe. Notice. Repeat regularly. Having coffee after putting away the week’s groceries. There is pink blossom on my prunus purpurea, magnolia buds are beginning to colour up, tulips and daffodils in the containers outside the window are beginning to bloom. There are lots of little birds flitting about in the trees. Spring is doing its best to banish the winter cold. This is a regular joy in my life.
17. Look around and spot three thing you find unusual or pleasant.Today it is more like autumn tha spring. There is a thick sea mist. My usual view of countryside is reduced to about 500 yards. Everything looks damp and grey.18. If you find yourself rushing, make an effort to slow down.
19. Appreciate nature around you wherever you are.
20. Focus on what makes you and others happy today.
21. Listen to a piece of music without doing anything else.
22. Notice something that is going well, even if today feels difficult.
23. Tune into your feelings, without judging or trying to change them.
24. Appreciate your hands and all the things they enable you to do.
25 Focus your attention on the good things you take for granted.
26. Choose too spend less times looking at screens today.
27. Cultivate a feeling of loving-kindness towards others today.
28. Notice when you are tired and take a break as soon as possible.
29. Choose a different route today and see
what you notice.
30. Mentally scan your body and notice what you are feeling.
31. Discover the joy in the simple things of life.5 -
My therapy appointment went well this morning. It was relaxed, and gave her a hug afterwards (because that's just me), and my next appointment is next month. I have some homework to do. I will be writing to youngest son, just putting it all out there. Then writing a letter to myself giving myself permission realize that I have done the best I could've done being his mom. To focus of things moving forward.
I cried many times during my appointment. Everything just raw under the surface.
Hugs ladies

Thank you Barbie for this!
I’m new to this and it’s the first “project” with real goals that I’ve done for myself since a few years ago… since before menopause, since before covid, before I moved, before a parent passed away, since… it doesn’t really matter, let’s just say I’ve been neglecting self-care. 50 years old now and my “treat” to myself is fitness this year.
Lots of inspiration on this site. Even if you think you’re making little progress, it’s all self-care and that’s all good. Give yourself a pat on the back.

Good evening ladies!
Rebecca sounds like a great appointment and a good match. So glad you found a good therapist!
Today I ate 1203 calories, for a deficit of 383. Yay! I did twenty minutes on the bike, plus yoga, plus aerobic walking. Yay!

Just curious!
Carol in GA
She really wants the garden and enjoys it but just has a problem with time management/procrastination.
The green house should have been planted by first of Feb, middle at the latest and she hasn't even ordered the soil that we use yet. Not sure if she has even ordered the seeds we will need.
My nephew is coming out next month to work the ground. This time they have already signed up to rent the tractor. Last year he came out and the place didn't have any available because she didn't sign up early enough.
The garden will be smaller than it used to be by half(if she plants the whole front garden along with all the raised beds.)
She has mentioned planting and having a "U-Pick" sign out front and make a little money to help pay for the garden. Not sure if she will. One time she says no, then yes.
If the neighbors that have said they will come help, actually do come and help, it would work out perfectly but they don't and she gets irritated, rightfully so. Don't promise if you aren't going to do it.
Sometimes "a problem with time management/procrastination" is a sign that a person doesn't really want to do something. Voice of experience ... if I'm procrastinating, I am not overly enthusiastic about doing something.
It's obviously way too much for her to handle on her own and she has no consistent help that she can count on. There's a good chance she feels overwhelmed by it all.
Does she need the garden to make money or save money?
Is she keeping the garden out of a sense of duty to her husband/your father ... or to you?
Is there something else she would prefer to do? You mentioned that she's doing some things differently now that your father is gone.
Can you ask her if she didn't plant the garden, or only planted a very small garden, what she would really like to do with her time? Maybe she would like to travel or take an art class or something.
Just a few thoughts.

SophieRosieMom wrote: »Chicken stuff:I was busy all day working in the yard and getting ready for the little chicken coop. For now I'm tucking it next to the shop under the porch overhang. It will be a little crowded for 4 hens when they mature but for several months they'll be fine. The plan is to move the coop into the cleaned out garden area this summer and enclose it with a large fence (covered dog kennel?) so they have room to peck and scratch in the dirt.
I'll order the coop from Tractor Supply tomorrow and it will be shipped to me in a kit, which is perfect. I can make any modifications I need before everything gets screwed together.
They told me I must buy 4 chicks. I had 4 great aunts: Almy, Gladys, Fairy, and Thelma, so they are already named. Fairy will be the sweet one. Thelma will be the crank and peck everyone and push them away from the feed, lol. Gladys liked a martini and wild dancing with boys. Not sure how she'll manage that one. Almy was shy. So we'll see how they line up.

Looking forward to hearing the tale of 4 chickens.

Went for a walk, had dinner then saw a launch of a SpaceX. Boy, a lot of them are going up. Since we’ve been here, I think I’ve seen something like 4 launches. Then worked on Jess’ picture
Rori – get better fast.
Started the cleaning. Took the cushions out of the porch. Made the bed in the spare room and put the cushions on top Also cleaned the microwave, the refrigerator (not the inside, just outside), the mirrors and one of the sliding glass doors
Katla – you don’t want to give me worry lines, so check in. Missing you.

Katla49
I think Katla is waiting for her computer.
One of her issues is that she has not written down her passwords for either myvt9v4crh or Katla49 so if she did manage to log out, she might not be able to log back in.
She could use the I forgot my password link to create a new password, but I imagine that requires an email address and I don't know if she would be set up with that on her phone.
Katla, if you're trying and you're frustrated, maybe give Pip another call.

I'm worried that it's been so long since she used her computer that the password will no longer be saved there.
I need to stop worrying, but Katla has been a part of this group for a very long time, and I am sad that she feels abandoned or that she feels that MFP has done something nefarious.

Thanks ladies.💖. Its nice to be thought of.🤗💖
Today I had cheese, crackers and some turkey.
Dinner was a potato, some hunks of kielbasa sausage, and a small hunk of cabbage. I covered it with chicken stock, turmeric, seasoned pepper and a dash of pink salt. It was yummy.
Earlier in the day I had a milk tea with turmeric and cinnamon. Need to buy some powdered ginger and almond milk and it supposed to be a nice sleepy time "golden milk" thing. No tea.
Well I need to watch my cholesterol better.
These are my numbers:
HDL 93 (good guys).......should be (40-60)
LDL 158 (bad guys).......should be (0-130)
Total cholesterol 269.... should be (0-200)
Triglycerides 90.............should be (0-150)
So I have some work cut out for me.
I checked out a book on cholesterol and will be reading up on things I should be doing, and foods I should steer away from.
That is one thing I have control over. My eating habits.

From the sounds of it, they're planning to set her up with a new computer. Her older computer was probably quite old. So no, it's unlikely her password will be saved.
In fact, based on the timing of all this ...- Her son goes to the west coast to get her stuff.
- She's mysteriously logged out of MFP.
I'm kind of thinking that when she and her husband moved to Illinois (or wherever they are now), she left her computer on and logged into MFP, and her phone was syncing with that.
Then, when her son went to get her stuff, he shut down the computer and unplugged it, etc. to pack it. It's just possible when he did that, he broke the connection and Katla was logged out.
She doesn't remember her Katla49 password because she stayed logged in, with her computer on all the time. It's probably been years since she used the password.
I'm figuring her computer system must be old because my computer will restart periodically to apply updates. Hers may be old enough it doesn't do that.
If they set her up with a new computer, I am hoping that they will sit down with her and help her log in as Katla49 again, with a new password. I am hoping they will ask the right questions, like what did you visit online? Is there anything you would like us to set up for you?
Unfortunately, I'm not confident that she will know what to ask for. Or if she does know what to ask for, she may feel embarrassed to ask for help. So I'm hoping they will be very patient with her.
