Oh, yeah, we are ballin', haha. We live in an incredibly 1970s building with almost entirely senior citizens, but there's an indoor and outdoor pool with grilling areas, fitness centre, party room, guest suite, tennis courts, heated underground parking...I mean, it's got popcorn ceilings and weird textured concrete on some walls (and a giant floor-to-ceiling wall mirror in the living room) and some serious 70s styling in the common areas of the building, but it's fully concrete (so we can't hear ANYTHING from other apartments) no one ever uses the amenities apart from the occasional grandkid of a condo owner (so we're always the only people in the hot tub or whatever) and it's pretty impeccably maintained (and our unit had a bunch of very modern renos not long ago). We lucked out big-time with finding it and I would absolutely buy a unit in the building if the condo fees weren't like $800/month on a two-bedroom.0 -

This is me, except the strawberry filling part, since I generally hate fruit mixed into any kind of dessert. It's very, very rare that I find a cake that I actually WANT to eat--there's only ONE bakery in Oman that I enjoy cake from. One. In the whole country. (At least it's the only one that I know of, and I've tasted quite a lot.)
Exactly! When I first met my in-laws, they bought a cake that was supposedly red velvet from a bakery that has a good reputation here in Saudi Arabia. It was terrible--it tasted just like a grocery store cake, stale and styrofoamy. I forced it down out of politeness.
The cake bakery that I enjoy makes THE BEST dense, fresh, DELICIOUS cakes with real buttercream icing, cream cheese frosting, chocolate ganache, etc. They aren't cheap, but they're worth every penny. I go there every time I visit Oman. I haven't found anything like it in Saudi Arabia. :-/
Confession: I make buttercream and eat it without cake. Sometimes I mix in blueberries or strawberries.
At least you make the buttercream.
Your post just reminded me that there is some leftover pre-made frosting in my fridge and I fully intend to eat it, with a spoon, over the next few days... willful cakelessness. Nor am I going to mix in fruit and up the nutritional quotient.
I love frosting. I happily eat it without cake. Sometimes I eat it off the cake and throw the cake away.

Well, we talked to the guy from Oakwood today. We did get approved by the bank, but for the house we wanted we'll have to come up with nearly 7K down and the payments will be close to 700/month before the lot rent we'll have to pay too. They did say we could go to something a bit smaller and cheaper but no matter what we choose we're going to have to have a large down payment. We're not exactly sure what we're doing from here, we'd love to buy something and stop renting, and we'd LOVE to get out of this bad area we're in, but I'm not sure we'll be able to come up with that much money by November 19th, which is when the "conditional" offer runs out.0

I'm a weirdo too then. There is a limit to how many clothes you can take off and be decent in public when it's too hot.
You can add as many layers as you need when it's cold. And I love sweaters!!
I am joining the weirdo club. This is exactly what I say all the time. You can only take off so much, and naked skin is gross when its all sweaty and touching skin. I can never run in a sports bra for this reason (plus I am too modest aka a prude).0 -

Must have been a day for this I came in today with my shirt on backwards lol
That made me laugh out loud. Another confession. I've put my undies on inside out on more than one occasion without noticing it all day.
As far as an American expression for the zipper being down, I think there are lots. Your barn door's open, your fly's open, and my mind has gone blank for others.

Dayton, OH is on the list twice. Should that be something else?
Also, 30°F sounds about right for January because February is usually our coldest month for some weird reason. It was unusually warm in January this year. On our warmest day it was 74°F or 23.33°C. People were wearing shorts and it was weird.
I have family in Dayton! (Yes, I'm completely random and that had nothing to do with the conversation lol!)

I used to work in an engineering office - 95% male. 42.3% of them would walk around unzipped most of the time, and I'd have to try not to notice.
Is it just a British thing to say "You've got egg on your chin" to subtly alert someone that their fly is unzipped? Is there an American equivalent?

THANK YOU! This is really helpful! I can create something similar, but substitute my goals in there. (I'm terrible at step counts because I don't have a Fitbit or other device - I just use an app on my phone called Pacer, but it can be fairly inaccurate.) I would track minutes exercised, flights of stairs climbed, or miles on bike maybe. Where I fall off the wagon is with sugar consumption, so I could track that, too.
Very cool!!

Confession - I'm worried that setting a goal weight will mean that I'll rest on my laurels once I get there, setting me up for gaining it back. I need to change my mind set away from having an "end goal" because then the process is over....and I tend to sprint to the finish, if that makes sense. Like go all out to get to that goal weight, especially now that it's within reach, and then have a let down once I'm there. @pofoster21 How did you handle this? Maybe if I keep setting goals for myself re: fitness challenges or hikes or bike rides, that'll keep me focused on continually improving overall (instead of being weight-focused). Anyone else have tips?
I set a goal of finishing a 5k in under 45 minutes. I have done it and discovered I hate running, but I didn't quit and still run a couple of charity races a year. LOL! so I joined a gym and took some classes and discovered that I enjoy yoga, the Barre is still a killer at creating great calves, and I enjoy lifting with my husband. My new goals are to be able to do crow pose and to bench, deadlift and squat my bodyweight. Good luck!
I also have goals to deadlift, bench, and squat my bodyweight! I'm hoping to accomplish this by the end of the year. My boyfriend says I should hit those goals well before the end of the year...here's hoping!
I can deadlift and squat my body weight...but bench?!? Man, it's gonna take me a loooong time to get there. That or I need to lose a lot of weight. LOL
Hehehe, that was my thought too. I'm at body weight now for deadlift (will be above on Thursday) and close to on squat (lifted 105 today, I weight 135). My bench this morning was 70, and I think I'm going to be hanging out at 75 for a couple of weeks based on how I barely made 70 today. My overhead press is 60, and I think I'm going to be there for a long time, too. These are 5x5 weights though (you're a fellow SL 5X5-er, right?), so maybe we could do a body weight max on bench?
@quiksylver296 and @WestCoastJo82 I wish I could work out with you ladies. I want so badly to start lifting heavy but I'm so scared I'll hurt myself. I also wish I could get my husband to work out with me, but he has zero interest in that.
Mo I thought you did do heavy lifting?
Nope. I do a HIIT workout 3 times a week. Weights are incorporated, but definitely not heavy ones. Does it LOOK like I do heavy lifting, because if so, then YAY!
Who my gosh it does! It totally does!
Thanks! I can't imagine how buff I'd be if I DID start lifting heavy.
Can you tell us more about the HIIT workouts??
Sure!
High Intensity Interval Training.
It's 4 stations with a set of 4 exercises at each station with weights and cardio mixed in. For the full workout, you do the full rotation 3 times. Each exercise is 30 seconds with a 9 second rest between exercises and a 30 second rest between stations. The whole workout from start to finish is supposed to take 42 minutes. I usually make sure to stretch really well afterwards, so in total, I think it's around 45-50 minutes. When I'm on my game, I go Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. If I'm REALLY on my game, I do the treadmill during lunch for 35 minutes on Tuesday and Thursday. If I'm REALLY REALLY on my game, I hit the Y on Saturdays and do random lifting/cardio.
If you want specific exercises, let me know and I'll PM you.

I'm having a little dinner party next week and I can't make up my mind about dessert...help?
I'm just doing bacon-wrapped scallops (and need something else here...help again?) as an app, and little stuffed cornish hens with a light salad and truffled roasted veg for dinner, so not super fussy but pretty heavy.
I thought about just doing a pie of some variety, because husband insists on the coconut-milk ice cream I make for company, but now I'm thinking maybe if I make soft cookies I can make homemade ice-cream sandwiches with them while they're warm and fresh? Maybe soft ginger cookies or snickerdoodles or something so I can make coconut-cardamom ice cream, or do coconut-caramel and just make double chocolate cookies.
I usually have too many things I want to make so deciding is hard.
I vote for coconut-caramel ice cream with double chocolate cookies... chocolate, coconut and caramel being my three favourites.
I also vote for inviting me to the dessert portion of the dinner party.

I confess I do this often if I have 'complicated' pants on. Meaning I have to button some elaborate button configuration. I always seem to forget the 'zip' part when that happens.
My neighbor caught me a couple days ago with it open (office neighbor). Oh, well. At least I was wearing underwear.
I have a pair of pants on today that have 5 buttons and a zipper. I always seem to forget the zipper. Thankfully it's not obvious if it's undone.
I really got into the high-waisted multi-button styles too and I regularly forget the zipper... not difficult to do when it's only 1.5" long.
I have a pair with 7 buttons. PITA.0 -

There was a storm that went through central or southern Alberta yesterday, some of the pictures were nuts! Entire crops were ruined, peoples windows were smashed & trees were stripped of leaves & bark.
Hope your place continues to be okay!
This storm talk reminds me. Most of Oman is built on the inside of a very deep river, so I'm pretty sure I have you beat on storm pictures. Behold:
The guys in brown are the royal armed forces.
Those are pretty bad! I'm lucky I live in an area that's relatively storm free, but a few hours south gets some pretty nasty storms. There was a lot of really bad flooding a year or two ago - again, in Calgary and area.
ETA: Okay, I'm totally blanking, who is it here that's from Calgary? Did you live there when it flooded?
Except that this happens to us almost every time it RAINS. Oman built some advanced drainage systems after the major flooding in 2007 (the McDonalds picture is from then) in the capital region, but there's usually a lot of flooding issues in the more rural areas even with moderate amounts of rain. They're continually making improvements to the drainage systems wherever they can, but it's quite a battle since, as I said, many parts of the country are built inside of dried riverbeds.
Saudi Arabia is a hundred times worse, because most of the country is flat and everything floods and breaks in the tiniest cloudbursts, and nobody in the government bothers to actually DO anything about it. At least Oman is trying.0
