There was a storm that went through central or southern Alberta yesterday, some of the pictures were nuts! Entire crops were ruined, peoples windows were smashed & trees were stripped of leaves & bark.
Hope your place continues to be okay!

Those are pretty bad! I'm lucky I live in an area that's relatively storm free, but a few hours south gets some pretty nasty storms. There was a lot of really bad flooding a year or two ago - again, in Calgary and area.
ETA: Okay, I'm totally blanking, who is it here that's from Calgary? Did you live there when it flooded?
My sister had a rental property in High River which had to be torn down, despite all of our best efforts to save it. (High River was the town that was so badly flooded that nobody was allowed back in for 2 weeks after the it happened). Because it wasn't their primary residence, they got NO government disaster assistance. It was meant to be their retirement savings

I knew that, I totally had a brain fart lol.
Glad your place was spared. High River did get hit hard! Sorry to hear about your sister's place though. Were they able to rebuild?0 -
They might, but it will cost a lot, so they're not sure whether it's worth it. It's two years now, but the town is still nowhere near back to normal. I wouldn't buy or build there, to be honest.
My best friend works at the high school there and there's been a lot of depression, divorce, even suicide related to people having such a hard time. You see disasters on the news and they come and go - it's easy to forget that it keeps on going for a long time afterwards for the people affected.0 -
Oh my word @quiksylver296 I want your dog!!
This! I vote for her sleeping inside with you. I doubt I'd sleep very well, though, no matter what with the possibility of a prowler outside.
I love mastiffs!! They are such sweet and beautiful dogs!0 -

She would hate my office, we have one of those theatre-style poppers that our social committee uses once every couple months for charity fundraisers and stuff. We pop with coconut oil and that movie-theatre seasoning and It. Smells. Incredible.
Oooh, I would love that.
It's the easiest way to get people to donate to anything, by giving them popcorn in exchange for it. The lure of popcorn is strong in this office (well, food generally, but in what office isn't it?)
Confession: I think popcorn smells way better than it tastes. Like, I'll have a handful now and then but I can't remember the last time I had a bag of it for myself or actually purchased any.
I love to eat popcorn too, but you're right, sometimes the smell is better. I wonder if they make a popcorn scented candle...
I LOVE popcorn. But I rarely eat it anymore. Every time I do my weight is up the next day, even though I don't put butter or salt on it.
I live off popcorn at work. Specifically, CVS house brand called Gold Emblem, I think. It's soooo good and low cal, for popcorn. No weighing issues here.
Popcorn for the win. I eat a big bowl every night!!
I love LOVE L-O-V-E popcorn! I can't handle that microwave stuff though, I make hot air popped with real salted butter. Or popcorn from the movie theatre, I said this early in the thread, but I have been known to go there, buy a bag of popcorn and then come home and eat it.....
I make the air popped too. I use either margarine or baking spray depending on how many calories I have left and then use one of the many many popcorn seasonings I own. Have also tried taco seasoning on it which is also yummy.
Now for a confession. Hope I don't get kicked out of the group but I could take or leave ice cream or cookies for that matter and.....I have never eaten one of those protein bars you guys are always raving about.
Runs away and hides
I am a total food snob
I only like very high quality ice cream, I basically only eat Häagen-Dazs. Same with popcorn, it HAS to be real butter! For cookies, I don't eat like Christie cookies or anything like that, only bakery type ones or homemade. I -have- eaten boxed cookies in a pinch but I would never CHOOSE to eat that.
Today, I bought two Quest Bars (almost $4 each!). One chocolate peanut butter, and one chocolate chip cookie dough.....these better be good guys!!!
I also bought a box of 100 Stevia packets ($8!!!), and I tried to make a lemonade, as I have heard that is good, and it was NASTY! I wonder what I can make with it that will taste good......
Both those things are cuz of this thread, lol.
Well I am almost caught up here, will have to catch up in the batcave tomorrow, too tired tonight.....I am gonna have some popcorn and watch Devious Maids from last night. I actually got lucky and get a second night at home alone tomorrow (well some of it), cuz my daughter and her boyfriend are going out for dinner and a movie, so tomorrow I should get more time online since I am only going to come home after work.....
SO glad I got to swim today, it was wonderful.....except for the three charlie horses I got.....ugh. That is why I have to go for those tests on my legs....I keep getting really bad, really long charlie horses in my calves....like to the point where they will be sore for days afterwards, they are the most intense ones I have ever had in my life, and getting more and more frequent. I hope they can figure this out cuz the pain is terrible.....
On an awkward note.....I threw my bathing suit on and went the testing place (had shorts and a shirt over it of course), because I was heading right over to the pool afterwards. The lady says "I need you to take off everything except your bra and underwear."
Great, except I am wearing a one piece bathing suit!
I had to lay naked for the 45 minute test, lol. She put some paper over me,, but it just ripped and moved....
@Italian_Buju
I blame MFP for introducing me to Quest, Talenti gelato, MaraNatha Almond Butter, & Jeni's ice cream. I hope you enjoyed the flavors you bought!
Did you think the Stevia was bitter? When I first tried Stevia I thought it had a bizarre taste. I sometimes use it in smoothies or if I want to make my yogurt sweeter.
Ugh, I hate charlie horses! Are you low on potassium?0 -

I ruin songs for my teenage daughter. I sign along in a nasal voice when I feel the song is whiny. I ask too many questions about the meaning of the song or point out how sexist (or whatever it may be) the lyrics are of a particular song. I know he is talented but I change the station when I hear one popular Grammy winning singer whining about someone not being faithful. I don't mean to ruin songs for my daughter, it just happens when I point out something she stops liking the song.
For example the GDFR song that sounds like it has an oboe in it. Then it does not quite sound like and oboe but a sax. Then I go back and forth pondering what musical instrument is making that sound. It drives her nuts. But, we have a lot of similar musical tastes so when she broke her ipod and I gave her mine she didn't complain.
Then I think about songs I like and I could be called hypocritical. My kids knew the lyrics and sang along to Violent Femmes Blister in the Sun (for example, there are others) in early elementary school.
Confession #2
In general I don't like violent movies but I find Grosse Point Blank hilarious.
I over-analyse song lyrics to the point of hating them. There was an admittedly crap song by a boyband over here a couple of summers ago called 'she walks like Rihanna' and it basically explained that this girl was rubbish at everything, but at least she could strut and was hot. Everyone at work would listen to it and it would wind me up so much. I kept hearing the message, 'young girls, don't worry about putting any effort into anything or developing any talents, you're hot so you'll be fine.'
Or that song about the girl who doesn't know she's beautiful . . . and that's what makes her beautiful. I get that conceited isn't an attractive trait, but IME a person who knows they're beautiful attracts a better class of mate than someone with low self-esteem, which makes you wonder about the person who wrote the lyrics. Goodness knows the guys who have encouraged me to have low self-esteem (and other women I've known) have all had serious issues of their own.
And don't even get me started on "Blurred Lines," which has been discussed ad nauseum elsewhere.
But I also enjoy analyzing some songs. When you know how Rihanna's accountant screwed her over, "B---- Better Have My Money" becomes a million times better.
Another song that everyone thinks is so poppy & upbeat but is the exact opposite is Semi Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-Charmed_Life#Content
The lead singer said it's about drug addiction.
School shooting....give it a listen....
https://youtu.be/SDTZ7iX4vTQ
Wow, that's nuts! I've only heard the song a few times & only really remembered the chorus since it's hard to understand what he's singing.
Just thought other another one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejorQVy3m8E
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beds_Are_Burning
Also Fastball's The Way was written about two older people who had seemed to vanish & the lead singer wrote the song thinking they had vanished to go somewhere exciting. In the end it ended up they had gotten lost & the wife had Alzheimer's & her husband had just had brain surgery & both had died.

This is such a hard question for me, as well. When we donate for zakaat (obligatory yearly charity in Islam. You don't have to pay it if you're poor, only if you have money to spare) every year, I feel sad that we can't get money to the Muslims around the world who REALLY need it and aren't getting any of it due to there not being an organization to provide aid to them. This includes the Syrian refugees, the Palestinian refugees, the Rohingya Muslims, and others. It's hard to watch and read about what they're going through and not be able to help in any way.0 -

When I was younger I didn't understand why people would look at animal videos online. I was confused and wondering what was so funny about animals. Then I started watching kitten and puppy and piggy videos and I sometimes binge watch them on YouTube for hours. If I find a new one that's really funny/adorable (cute dog teaching a puppy how to go down the stairs ) I send it to my boyfriend and we both coo over it0

I HATE shopping, hate it! I feel like its all I do sometimes. Yesterday I needed new pants for work, so while out running my errands I stopped in my usual clothing store, and was in and out with two pairs of pants in ten minutes. When I have to spend time trying stuff on or looking for something in particular, it drives me mad, I wish everything I needed was just bagged at the counter and I could just go in and pay and get out, lol. Today I have to go grocery shopping, which is the bane of my existence......ugh.
Well...we know I love clothes shopping. I am a master at Marshalls. I am a machine. I can buzz through that place in 30 min and walk out with great stuff. But again. Grocery shopping. Ick. When I move to Saudi Arabia Susie is going to take care of it for me.
Double grocery runs for me! Yay!
And double cooking. I think you would be horrified at how I eat out and that my cupboard is all canned soup and protein bars and that my refrigerator is empty. If I remember I'll post a pic tonight to show you!
Okay as promised here are my refrigerator and my cabinet.
Hehehehehe! Oh man, so I don't think the cabinet is bad, but that is one sad fridge.
Mine is full of eggs, sliced turkey, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, cauliflower, three different types of cheese, whipping cream, fresh milk, butter, margarine, bread, diet soda... And both your fridge AND hers sound terrible.
I haven't been grocery shopping since we got back from camping, I have some leftovers from the camping trip but we are in pretty dire straights... I need to get that sorted out and get myself back into a routine >.<
Sheesh. I feel like a freak. One fridge isn't enough for us. I have a second fridge in the garage, plus an upright freezer out there. We go through a TON of food. One example: Hubby grilled 6 lbs of boneless skinless chicken thighs on Sunday for dinner. We each brought some for lunch, and they were gone before I got home from work yesterday. There are 3 of us.
The fridge is pretty well always stuffed too. I need to have salad greens, bell peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, green onions, green apples, eggs, bacon, and a hard and soft cheese in there all the time, plus we've always got about a hundred jars of pickles and olives and stuff. And mustard. Literally ten kinds of mustard and ten kinds of hot sauce at all times. It's bad. And our roommate always has beer in there too.
Yet somehow nothing ever lasts long enough to go bad, thanks to my bottomless pit of a husband and my obsessive FIFO habits.
In my freezer I have two bags of chicken thighs, one bag of chicken breast, tilapia, mixed veggies, cauliflower, & a few frozen meals for when I am too lazy to make anything.
In my pantry I have around 5 boxes of protein bars, a package of the new Thin Golden Oreos, some Seaweed I probably won't eat, & some flavored pea snacks. In my other cabinets I have 6 peanut butters, various canned veggies/beans, around 8-9 different cereals, & rice.
Your freezer is broken...there is no ice cream in there.
LOL, I forgot to mention that I do have a few ice creams. I have Yuengling's Buttered Caramel Popcorn, Three Twins Mint Confetti, & Edy's Egg Nog. I've been a good girl & haven't ate any ice cream for almost a week from having a bad binge last week.
For the past few days I've been eating the Yoplait Greek 100 Whips & putting them in the freezer to taste like frozen yogurt.0 -

Ok... I have a fun question for you guys: What do you call soda? Do you call it pop, soda, soft drink, or coke (for all drinks)? I grew up in South Carolina and down there, as far as I'm concerned, pretty much all of us call it soda. I've never heard anyone actually say ''pop.'' And why would you call every soda ''Coke?" Coke is a specific drink!!!
I took a quiz to see where in the US I sound like I'm from. Florida, Maine, and Boston were high up there (Boston, really?). Here's the quiz if you guys want something to do: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013/12/20/sunday-review/dialect-quiz-map.html
EDIT: Apparently I sound absolutely nothing like people from Detroit.
EDIT2: Took the quiz again and got three cities in California. No matter what it says Detroit is least similar.0 -

I don't really care for ice cream either. I REALLY have to be in the mood for it, or have a piece of warm apple/cherry pie or brownie or chocolate cake to put it on. I'm definitely NOT one of those people that can sit down and eat a whole pint (not judging) even if I really like the flavor. It's cold, and makes my stomach hurt. Also, I don't think it's worth the calories. *hides with you*
Cookies, on the other hand, I LOVE cookies. Especially Mr. Mo's warm chocolate chips cookies. He uses the same recipe that Phoebe's grandma used. If you got this reference, we're officially best friends now!
As far as Quest Bars go, I have only just recently (within the last 6 months or a little longer) discovered them. For the amount of calories they contain, they have a really high protein count, and are extremely high in fiber, but don't do me nasty like the Pure Protein ones. Plus, they just taste really delicious...well, most of them do.

LOL I believe the name was Nestlé?
Edit: I'm doubting myself! Was it? I'm sure it was...raelynnsmama52512 wrote: »riderfangal wrote: »Italian_Buju wrote: »riderfangal wrote: »pofoster21 wrote: »riderfangal wrote: »I have a coworker who can be quite snotty and apparently gets offended by smells. LOL I believe the name was Nestlé?
Pronounced "Nes-lay Tollhou-say", iirc?
Congratulations on becoming my new best friends. That is to this day one of my most favorite episodes.
You know, I always wonder when I watch that episode that Monica doesn't figure out it's not a "special recipe" and it's Netsle Tollhouse since she's supposed to be an expert chef and probably ate millions of nestle tollhouse cookies growing up haha.. I have to say one of my favorite parts of the show is when Monica is in her fat suit dancing all by herself, I love when Courtney Cox does it, she's hilarious!!
LOL!
This is one of my favorite scenes
Oh & when Chandler puts in someone else's gum & starts to choke.

No matter what it says Detroit is least similar.
I call it soda.
I just took the quiz and got Worcester MA, Boston MA, and Honolulu HI. Worcester and Boston make sense because I grew up in NH and just moved to ME 3 years ago...both states are right near MA. No idea about Honolulu though!0 -

I don't know...but it grosses me out. So I try not to look at even the titles...and I never click in. Did it once...won't make that mistake again, lol.
I totally agree. I can only hope their partners know what they're doing online, because yikes.
I don't really get the attraction either. I'm single but I guess I'm not interested in virtual ego stroking? Not into long distance relationships? Not interested in anyone outside of, like, a 200-foot radius?
Why can't I meet a man between the computer and the fridge, that would be the ideal situation.
It would be my luck to find one who gets into those threads though.0 -

I'm sure I am a disappointment to my southern friends who use ''y'all." I have always been a "you guys" type of person.0 -

We are pop people in the inland northwest. I've done that quiz before, and it's super fun. The first time I took it, I confused it because I grew up in the northwest and but lived in the midwest, south, and southwest, so I learned words for things that I didn't have words for growing up (e.g. access roads and parking strips) and didn't pay attention to that when answering questions. When I did it again trying to just remember what I used to call things, it pegged me perfectly (gave me Spokane, WA; Seattle, WA; and Portland, OR - I grew up in Spokane).0 -
Aww, I missed the fun with the temperature charts. Here are some Australian ones.
Sydney:
0-10C: OH MY GOD IT'S SO FREEZING WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE
10-20C: It's cold! wear a jacket!
20-30C: Warm
30-40C: OH MY GOD IT'S SO HOT WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE
Only three hours south of them, in the capital:
-10-0C: Cold this morning. Grass is crunchy. Wear a coat, scarf, gloves and earmuffs walking to work.
0-10C: Fresh. Gloves, scarf and earmuffs. Coat not required.
10-20C: So lovely and warm! Yay!
20-30C: Perrrrrrrrrrrrfect.
30-40C: Quite hot!
Sydney are quite the self-centred drama queens when it comes to weather.0 -

Took the quiz and I got Buffalo, Rochester, and Rockford. Pretty accurate as I'm from upstate New York!
