There was some new snow in the mountains this past weekend, so we thought we’d eke out another snowboarding day, which was lots of fun. My board is 20 years old and one of the bindings finally failed, so I needed to revisit my gear and ended up taking advantage of some end of the season sales and got a new board and bindings.
I got to ride my shiny new board with one downside, which was that I didn’t attach the stomp pad on the board (it takes 24 hours to cure, hard to do on the fly), so it was *darn* slippery coming off the lifts... which led to one rather spectacular spill (finally running-related content to come...) So, yesterday and today my knee is bruised and banged up, and I was very sore for the run! And also couldn’t tell if I may have pulled a hamstring. Luckily, so far I’m feeling better post-run than I was before, so we’ll see what tomorrow brings. I should probably also do some foam rolling, but tomorrow is another day... The run itself was super soggy—steady rain, but it was still nice. Very peaceful, and all the blooming flowers smelled amazing.

@simcon1 Sorry about your spill on the slopes. Glad you weren't injured any worse than you were.1
-
@simcon1 I'm jealous of your snowboarding, snow related spill and post spill run even.. and that new board. Pic?
You're tough!
I vacuumed the area rug yesterday. Big adventure 💤
ETA @7lenny7 thanks for the achilles update. I've never had achilles pain so I just couldn't understand. Gimping around sans crutches, I now have achilles pain, tightness really. Shoes seem to help and walking on soft ground is so amazing.7 -

Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
Beautiful day for a run and I felt strong - not at all like yesterday. Maybe shorts and a tech shirt instead of a winter tights and a hoodie helped.

6-1 Freedom 5K (Will be off the schedule due to another commitment)
6-30 Strides for Starfish 5K9 -
@Avidkeo Just for you, a pic of my friends ankle after meeting some ice while out for a run with a group. They hit the ice - slid off the trail and his shoe hit solid ground and stopped but the rest of his body kept moving.

My leg feels twingy after yesterday’s speed work. I also have a big bruise on my thigh that I can’t remember what it is from 🤔
So I took today’s 5 miles slow. It kinda feels worse so I’m torn about what to do. I feel like I should take a few days off, but I never can bring myself to stop.

Uh. Distal oblique fibial fracture. Your friend get a pin, cast or Halo? Not weight bearing bone... So I'm a guess a walking boot. Man that gotta hurt! (Oh yes, practice opportunity 🤓 did I get a 100?.I had a dream I was kicked out of school for cheating. What? So not in my nature).
ETA lovely x ray quality don't you think @Avidkeo ?4 -

Oddness. 🤔... Listen to your body. Visit your doc if you feel concerned. I'm so bad about this one. If it's always on my mind, I just go see someone. I am neurotic and things prey on my mind until they are resolved. Of course it's been warranted in my case, no way I could have "fixed" myself.
Sunlight, pineapple, gentle heat and gentle massage may help that bruise heal/dissipate faster.
How's your iron level?
Best of luck! ((Hehe, annoyingly playing doctor this morning)1 -
@simcon1 - I tough on the fall coming off the lift! I can remember doing that as a kid and being SO embarrassed! Hope the knee is just a bruise and will feel much better soon.
@juliet3455 - I agree with @Elise4270 that is a lovely x-ray but all I could think of was 'ouch!'
So we are making our way through New Mexico. Not much (none) running has happened since Tucson. I have a run planned for tomorrow once we are in Santa Fe. There are trails right outside our hotel!
In a non-running note here is a couple of pictures from where we went yesterday - White Sands National Monument, oh and the UFO museum in Roswell 😁14 -
Ouch, lots of injuries in this AM's update. Hugs and fast recovery all around!
Yesterday was a well-needed rest day for me. My glutes were happy with the break, but in the evening I started having really weird sort-of-cramps in my left shin or calf (*shakes fist at the left side of my body*) while I was sitting down. I make sure to get up and move around every hour or two at most, so I don't think that was it - I've never felt anything quite like it before. I got a couple of good walks in without any problems, but then lying in bed the same shooting intermittent pain had moved to my hip. I ended up taking a couple of IB so I could sleep, but I worry that I've been taking too much of that stuff recently.
Strength class today - I'd planned on running there but am not sure right now. I haven't felt any pain this morning but don't want to push it. Also it's pouring rain, but it's warmish so I don't actually mind the idea of running in it. I'm not sure I'd want to do an hour of weight-lifting in soaking wet clothes, though, so I'm going to have to figure that out.6 -
4 miles on the bike last night. It wasn't much of a workout though. I brought Kody along so I couldn't go very fast. It was a tempo run for him and a slow roll for me. I wanted to drop him off and keep going but I got a late start and there was no more daylight left.
After work last night I stopped by the local running store and ended up with a pair of Salomon Sense Max 2. Only a 6mm drop but the in-stock selection in my size was slim and that was the best option. You know that saying, nothing new on race day? Well I might be attempting a 50 mile race with shoes I've never run in, because when I do start running this weekend, it will be flat paved areas so as not to aggravate my Achilles. I have mapped out the race, from aid station to aid station and came up with goal paces for each section, taking into account the vertical gain, which will allow me to finish in 13hr:15m, or 45 minutes before cutoff, so I'll have some buffer. All just a guess at this point. I'm going to walk as much as possible. Overall pace needs to be 16:48 which sounds like a lot, but there is 8700 feet of elevation gain and loss on the course.
I keep getting twinges of very slight pain in my Achilles throughout the day so I'm not sure how much I'm recovering or how long I'll be able to go next weekend. I certainly don't have much optimism about the race, but I'll start and I'll go as long as I can without doing more damage, be it one mile or fifty. Though it is my A race for the year, I have a 50K three weeks after that which is also important to me and I don't want to screw that up.
My new shoes are pretty plain. It's kind of funny, when I started running I didn't want bright flashy shoes. Now I'm disappointed that these are so boring.

@7lenny7 those aren't boring shoes - look at the Louboutin soles on them!!!!! (ok, not QUITE the same colour......)1
-
@7lenny7 I try to avoid the airport area when possible, but the A&R does have great ribs! The place we went on Sunday is The One and Only BBQ, and the ‘cue there is only so-so, but they are convenient to where we run and have sweet potato fries which I love. Also the owner is a runner! I got to know her while standing in line for pickup at St Jude.
Some of the best Memphis bbq is found at unlicensed food trucks and on street corners around town during the summer. It’s almost food truck season again! Thanks to the magic cleansing power of fire, bbq is one of the safer things to eat out of a food truck, as long as you keep an eye on how the slaw is being stored.
Yesterday we walked 3.5 miles at the Greenway. It was in the mid 80s. I’m going to regret not being able to run during this transitional weather when it gets into the 100s and I’m not adapted. I need to start adding some higher intensity cardio soon, going to try exercise bike with a support sleeve on my ankle and see if it feels okay.4 -
@7lenny7 I like the shoes! Salomon has spoiled me as far as lacing systems are concerned.0
-
@shanaber - love that pic of Hobbes in front of the window, lol. The rest are good too!
Apparently I needed to sleep in today. I'm working on a program and sometimes I get addicted to such things. So I stayed up too late last night but left my alarm for 4:10. I awoke to my husband shaking me and he said "your alarm has been going off for 20 minutes and I couldn't wake you up!" So I set it for 5:30 and missed my run today, grrr.
I had a double workout yesterday and the strength training was really intense, so probably good to rest legs anyway.
But I will want to do something when I get home!

Today's 5.04 mile run was windy, hot and humid. It was only 70F so I guess it wasn't really that hot, but it felt hot. It was a good run though. I heard lots of dogs barking, but they were all in their yards. Except for 2 little dogs that kind of ran out to the road and circled around my feet while their owner stood on the porch hollering at them. I don't know why people think it is ok to just open your front door and let your dogs out. They seem to do that a lot with little dogs. At least someone was out on the porch watching them and they weren't really a threat to me. It just annoys me when people are bad dog owners.
Other than that it was a good run. I did a Zombies Run supply run and turned on the zombie chases, so I'm counting that as speed work. LOL I did outrun all the zombies so I did have some speedy intervals. I'm really anxious for the new season to come out.

@Elise4270 Walking Boot, lots of swelling even after a week and yes I believe you got 100%. Although I never actually asked what the "official" description was.

So stomach feeling much better than yesterday I went out for a 2.5 mile jog. Definitely felt dehydrated and legs a bit wobbly but ok.10

Returning today to a hectic day at work after being out, so I am still working on a race report, but I thought I would share this. Adidas did these cool customized videos for the runners at Boston. You can see me at the 15K shot towards the middle of the road. At the 21 mile mark I am just in front of the blind runner checking my Garmin as I cross the mat (of course) and I am hobbling across the finish line at the far right of that shot. I am a mess in all of these photos because I dumped so many cups of water on my head. I will post a full report with some photos as soon as I can.
