Over 50 Maintenance struggle and ideal weight
Hi everyone, in Jan 2016 I weighed in at 205lbs. I set a goal to lose the weight and be healthy and look good in my Daughters wedding photos in Sep. I set a goal of 160lbs and I surpassed that goal and weighed about 153lbs by the time the wedding came around. I then lost another 10lbs after that. I felt Motivated, in…

Back at it again: Maintenance or Deficit? Noob Lifter
Hi Y'all! I'm not sure if this question should go in this forum or not but here goes: I'm not new to MFP or how it works. A few years back I used this to successfully lose 30 lbs and get in pretty good shape. I was pretty happy with my appearance and overall fitness and obviously feeling really accomplished. However, life…

New to Maintenance - Psychological help please!
Hi Everyone! I need a bit of advice and encouragement. First, a bit of background... In November of last year I began my weight loss journey through a local gym that provides personal physical and dietary coaching in six week sessions. Having completed four of those sessions successfully on June 9th, I have continued my…

Yo-Yoing
Hello everyone! Been doing this for about 3 months now and one the things I find most difficult is the weekends when I’m off and at home. They are usually my days to decompress so I don’t like going anywhere but I find myself cheating on my meal planning dieting etc and believe it’s leading to my weight yo-yoing. I am back…

Maintenance before Goal Weight?
SW 167.2lbs (5/10) CW 147.6lbs (8/16) GW 130? I am getting married next month and so I can have my waist go down too low or will cause issues with my dress fitting. I’ve measured and I’ve lost about 3”, but it goes back up when sitting. I want to be comfortable in my dress and eat all the wedding food. 😆 My thought is to…

New to Maintenance
Hello everyone. I just finished my first week in maintenance. I lost 116.6 pounds in total. This week I put on a pound. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about the gain, but I know that maintenance is a range. Also I ate more carbs this week than usual, so I’m in a good head space. I think the hardest part for me is that I…

The ‘guess my weight’ game...
A little over a month ago, I hit my goal of 11 st 5 (BMI 24.9) and entered maintenance. Shortly thereafter TOM finished, and I dropped to a (for me) teensy 11 st 1. Emboldened by this extreme success, I promptly sucked at maintenance and had a series of binges. Eight days ago, at the end of TOM and a short holiday break, I…

Ready to start maintaining?
I feel like 180 pounds would be a good weight for me to be at, if I had muscle and not such a big gut. I hit 180 at my last weigh in but I am still around 25% body fat, should I switch my calories to maintain mu current weight and just work harder to build more muscle, or continue to eat at a deficit?

Five Months of Maintenance
After five years losing-195# I made GW March and WW Lifetime in May. (376 to 184) From age 65 to 70. Gained 2# and is a reminder that it is so easy to gain weight! Still below GW but plan on not going over GW. Now looking at having back surgery on pinched nerve, bulging disc with arthritis. Plan to get well below GW and…

Maintaining weight while losing fat/gaining muscle. Is it possible?
Hey everyone! I'm 5'6 and 118lbs. I'm fine with my weight and have not been trying to actively gain or lose pounds, but I'm not happy with the way that I look. I've had a high body fat percentage my whole life and recently have started taking exercising more seriously. I do cardio 3x weekly for 30 minutes (generally…

Routines
I'm getting a bit burnt out on my current workout routine. I've been lifting 4-5 times a week following an upper/lower split for about a year now. I've switched my accessory lifts from time to time. I've done very hit or miss cardio because recomp was my focus and I enjoyed resistance training so much. I considered bulking…

Women 40s and Beyond: Tell me about your successful recomp
Open to other perspectives (younger and/or male) but really interested in women experiencing middle-age specific challenges like that pesky, stubborn belly fat that's soooo hard to get rid of yet so easy acquire. My specific questions: what's your weight lifting routine? did you/have you increased weights during your…

Did simply changing my goal make a difference? Or was it just a (big) fluctuation?
This seems kind of crazy to me. Is simply changing a goal making the difference? I hit my goal weight and switched to maintenance. That was great! I stayed pretty steady for a month and a half, although I was more active than usual (two river trips and a dive trip adds movement to my day). Then, all of the sudden, and I'm…

Weight Gain
I’m so frustrated with myself and this weight loss journey. Last year this time I weighed 141 and now I weigh 159. And I can’t lose a pound to save my life. I’m still going to the gym but I’ve apparently lost my focus! I don’t want to give up! I need help staying focused.

245k vs 5.3k
Anyone else find it striking that the "general weight loss" board has over 245 thousand messages and here at maintenance there are just over 5 thousand? I guess it's testament to the high regain rate among losers, but I really wish there was a more active community of folks here sharing maintenance tips and support!

First try at maintance wasn’t so great
After being in a deficit since about April I decided to take a diet break and try out maintance. I calculated activity level based on steps not including purposeful excercise, aimed for what MFP calculated as maintance, and did eat back exercise calories. I ate out a lot because a friend was visiting but calculated the…

Hi there!
Hi there maintainers! Today I finally hit my goal weight of 120 lbs (i'm 5'4 and female!) , when I began this journey I was 144.4! It took me exactly 3 months, so that would be roughly 2 lbs per week loss, but I lost most of my weight very quickly in the beginning and then it slowed down drastically towards the end. I've…

Help after a relapse!

Increasing my range because spikes bug me
I am increasing my range to 10 pounds - the 150s. I will actually try to maintain at 152 to 156. Spikes that go outside my range bug me. A lot. I know that makes no sense but that's how it is. So purely as a mental game with myself I am increasing my range even though I have no intention of ever really weighing more than 4…

Excited for family to visit, not excited about eating out
Ever since I moved into maintenance, eating out has lost its appeal, because I can make a much much healthier just as tasty version of nearly anything I could order off the menu. I try to look ahead at options, but eating out for lunch and dinner usually leaves me with not enough protein and way too much salt. I also feel…

How did you begin?
I’ve been trying to wrap my mind around how to truly eat at maintenance. I’ve lost 4 more lbs since checking my weight almost 3 weeks ago, so clearly I’m still losing even though I feel like I’m eating so much more. Is a reverse diet necessary? Did you just plug in your new stats and started eating at the calories it…

Overstated Calorie Count
Don't use any of the Map My apps if you want to accurately count calories. They typically count about 50% for than other apps e.g. with a Map My app you will burn about 300 calories during a 2 mile walk. Most other apps and exercise fitness experts will show about 200 calories burned during a 2 mile walk.

Percent body fat for women
My diet is being supervised by my physician. I've been very successful so far and have reach a healthy BMI, and surpassed the weight goals I had set for myself. I'm 5'4" and currently weigh 144. My doctor uses a special medical equipment thing (like a bod pod, but different) to measure my percent body fat, lean muscle, and…
