She's either serious about getting better or she's not. If she's not then she needs to stop pissing and moaning and deal with it. If she's serious then do it.
I am serious about getting better. But I can't take a supplement. I can be committed to eating lots of ground turkey meat, lima beans, and other iron rich foods though.
So why aren't you? Why are you waiting for a bunch of strangers on the internet to tell you to do it? Just friggen DO IT!0 -

OP - you say you've been out of school for a year because of this. Is this what you want your life to be? Living with your mom, not getting an education, all because of fears of a flippen' gummi-vitamin and a refusal to seek help or a logical solution?
IF this is true, and I have my doubts, I don't think you're scared of the vitamin at all. You're scared of actually having to live an adult life. Right now, this gives you an excuse to not life as an adult, to not seek a career, to not have to grow up. And you have a comfy little crutch to blame it all on.
But seriously - do you want to look back on your life and see how you failed to make anything of yourself, because of a completely fixable, easily solved iron deficiency? Seems like a pretty sad life to life, really.
No it's not how I want my life to be and it makes me very depressed. But there's nothing I can do about it. My anxiety won't allow me to take supplements.
And no I'm not scared of living an adult life. I want to be back in school, to socialize with my friends, to date. All that is fun. Do you think I enjoy sleeping all day, getting shortness of breath constantly, being too tired to do basically anything? No I don't but I don't see a way to fix this since I can't take supplements.
Yet you aren't even trying the turkey, the red meat, the lima beans. All you do is dither about it while not actually trying anything at all. Eat iron rich foods. Maybe they'll work. Maybe the won't. But at least you'd be TRYING something instead of looking for a magic solution while spinning your wheels and getting nowhere.0 -

What would those steps be BESIDES taking an iron supplement? I've read about so many people who can't tolerate iron supplements so they don't take them. Do you think they just suffer from anemia? No, I'm sure they find a way through food.
I tried taking a daily multi vitamin. I was too lazy and the only time I would remember to take it was first thing In the morning. Come to find out due to taking it on an empty stomach, the iron was hurting my stomach. It's been at least a year since I took a multi or really any other supplement. However, although this choice may not be all that smart (well, depends on who you ask), I have no medical symptoms and I sure as hell stand up to put on my makeup every morning. No, I don't suffer through anemia or anything because I don't like pills. If I had a medical condition, I would get help and solve it
Why do you even reference your silly doctor (YES SILLY) saying you should just get your iron through food only? Are they suffering like you are? Did you tell them the full list of your symptoms? Heck some of what you're describing... I wouldn't be surprised if a doc tried to hint hint admit you for a couple days to get things right, or at least request some follow up visits to make sure you're progressing nicely
Do you live with any family or friends? Near any? What do they have to say about all this???

yeah that too. I know if my kid was acting like this, I'd just say " oh hush! Take the damn pill and move on"

No surprises there then! Bet you love family get-togethers!
In our house, the attitude is "get on with it or quit whining!" which may seem harsh but ain't nobody got time for the alternative!0 -

Sometimes children are mollycoddled and turn into brats, and sometimes they're dealing with serious mental health issues that need professional intervention.
Blondebeauty, In your last post on your last thread you came back and said that you'd set up therapy and that you even thought maybe you could go ahead and take your vitamin. I'm sorry that's not true, and I'm shocked that your mother won't pay the copay (especially since you must go to the doctor every other week as it is). I honestly don't believe that.
Do you not want to get better so that you have to take your supplements? I'm actually also shocked that your doctor only wants you to take an over the counter vitamin. Given your levels and your health at the moment, you are in danger. In any case, you need to take the supplement and eat iron rich food (mix Cheerios with honey nut, eat turkey, whatever, have you been doing that?).
But really, you need to get and accept professional help. There's nothing wrong with that, you're not thinking clearly. You're anxiety must be miserable enough as it is, but it's putting you in immediate danger. You don't have to suffer like this.
I'm going to bed, I probably won't respond further, I just was sorry to see this same loop started up again. Really, eat whatever kind of Cheerios you'll eat. I'm concerned for you and wish you the best of luck.0 -

Now you're just contradicting yourself. When we told you that the cereal was enriched (iron added into it) you said that it was the same as taking a supplement. That it was OK to get your iron through an inorganic source.
Now you are saying you prefer to get it through your food. Cheerios don't pop off a Cheerios tree full of iron...
Cheerios are food so what are you saying?
Okay OP, what are you willing to actually do to correct your iron deficiency.
let's start with that.
I'm willing to try the Multigrain Cheerios and see if I like them. If not, I guess I'll stick with the Honey Nut ones as a snack.
I've thought about making my own chex mix with chex cereal which is rich in iron. But I remember when I used to eat chex mix and how I'd leave most of the chex in the bag and eat the other stuff so Idk if that will work.
I'm gonna try a piece of red meat that my mom made tonight. I'm willing to eat more broccoli although it doesn't act like it's rich in iron on google. I know it's rich in Vitamin C though which will help absorption.
If I have to, I'm willing to try half of the Flintstones vitamin but it will really be a struggle.
WTF? It takes five minutes to drive to the store and buy multi grain Cheerios. How do you like the taste???

You're acting like eating red meat is such a chore...like apparently everything else that might be good for your anemia.
And no. It won't "correct it", as anemia is not a one-cure condition. You'll have to continue eating red meat regularly. Have a tissue.
It's not a chore. I just have a fear of food poisoning and I get scared of red meat. I worded that wrong though. I meant like would I start feeling better?
So now you are afraid of red meat? But you have been asking about red meat. Oh brother.BlondeBeauty5 wrote: »BlondeBeauty5 wrote: »kristinegift wrote: »OP, people have been trying to give you good advice, but you don't want to hear it if it doesn't mean you can eat cereal for all your iron needs. Honestly, if your anemia is that bad, you should prioritize your health over your aversion to pills/supplements. A little discomfort from taking a pill seems like a small price to pay for improved health and well-being. If 13 pages of responses hasn't proven it already, there's not some magic remedy to your problem, and you're either going to have to eat a *kitten* load of Cheerios or suck it up and do something out of your comfort zone to correct the deficiency.
Although that seems logical and I should prioritize my health, anxiety is illogical and doesn't work that way. If I were to be able to get the Flintstones down, I would freak out. I would pace the room and flail my hands and be trying desperately to get the taste out of my mouth. I'd probably freak out for 30 minutes to an hour and hopefully not stress so much that I'd throw it up. That's why I haven't taken the supplement.
This Can't Be Real
It is. People who don't have anxiety don't understand it.
Actually I have suffered from Anxiety. And I dealt with it. Like you should do and not make excuses.
I asked you a question, did you try and Google for iron rich foods?
I already have an appointment scheduled with a therapist who was recommended to me by my doctor. It's 2 months away. I've visited a couple therapists in the past who weren't any help. One of them said my anxiety was so bad, therapy wouldn't work for me. I can't go through this for 2 more months. My iron is too low and needs to get up now.
And yes I have googled iron rich foods. It doesn't tell me much. I need a diet of what to eat every day to achieve 200-250% and/or correct this anemia.
Let me guess... he said therapy ALONE wouldn't work for you, and recommended medication in addition to it.
And you refused.
It was a she. And no she didn't suggest medication. She just said my anxiety is so bad, the techniques she would help me with wouldn't work. She also had numerous bad reviews written on her. Some people said they were told the same thing.
So, being an adult, you saw that the first therapist was a QUACK, and found a new one, right? What did that one say?
The new one I haven't seen yet. The appointment is 2 months away but people don't believe me. Did you know it takes 3 months to get into an endocrinologist? Some specialists it takes time to see.
Where do you live?
I never want to move there.
I know some specialists do take a while to get in to see depending on how emergent your case is.
I had an unstable thyroid when I was referred to endocrinology. I was seen within a week.
My migraine specialist took three months for an appointment, though.
I can't imagine a therapist for a problem as severe as yours taking that long.
I've been to four... They don't. Especially since they don't require insurancemarissafit06 wrote: »mamapeach910 wrote: »BlondeBeauty5 wrote: »BlondeBeauty5 wrote: »mamapeach910 wrote: »BlondeBeauty5 wrote: »skullshank wrote: »BlondeBeauty5 wrote: »AllOutof_Bubblegum wrote: »BlondeBeauty5 wrote: »If I eat red meat for 5 days straight, will it correct this? It could also be an insurance issue. Sometimes it takes a while to be permitted to see a specialist. I also imagine that OP might be more honest online in an anonymous forum than talking to a doctor in person. So perhaps the severity of her case is unknown to the proper people.
I've been to four therapists. All insured. None took months to get into. You can also pick your own therapists so like... She could have picked another one when she was told it will take two months. Sounds like excuses to me. And seeing one for anxiety isn't a specialist either.
Fine I don't have an appointment scheduled. But my mom doesn't wanna pay the money for my inability to take a "fing cartoon." meaning the Flintstones. She says how she has to pay all this money just for me to do simple things.
Get a job?marissafit06 wrote: »BlondeBeauty5 wrote: »marissafit06 wrote: »rainbowbow wrote: »pepperpat64 wrote: »

Yea. If you look at OP previous threads, she has basically said the only iron rich foods she will eat are broccoli, select meat, hot dogs and cereal.
Then why keep asking these questions when she can just increase her intake of broccoli, select meat, hot dogs, and cereal??????????????????????????????????????????????????/
Will this actually work or are you being sarcastic?
She's being serious. All you have to do is increase any of the sources of iron in your diet to accomplish your basic goal. I would still strongly advise that you take some sort of supplement, even it if is the flavored kind or one using a dropper.
Yep! Because Math

She's heard bad things about shots plus her doc says it's only for extreme cases that don't include out of breath and hair falling out apparently.

OP - how are your fears of things such as iron injections/drips and blood transfusions? Or simply put, the next step if your health is as bad as you say and you "can't" remedy it by eating the correct diet or taking a supplement.
Personally I'd rather swallow a pill than have someone else's blood pumped into me but hey each to their own.
I’m not getting an iron injection/infusion. I’ve heard terrible stories about those. I asked my doctor about those just out of curiosity and she said those are very rare and only done if absolutely necessary.
More weirdo stories of every possible side effect. Of course.
PS: what would your "absolutely necessary" look like?
