All this yap yap yap about how I'm wrong but show me how, how can those numbers be "non productive" or bro science or any of the other negative things that were said about me and how i choose to workout?
Soooo many reasons why what im saying is wrong and not beneficial but all i hear is excuses to not be and do better than you are right now. Thought this forum would be cool, people would be motivated and inspiring but i guess its just a bunch of cry babies, back to the actual bodybuilding and muscle forums i go
How would you rate your overall experience today on the myfitnesspal forums?
Terrible
You're not pushing hard enough then.....
I like you
Yeah, well, I've been married longer than you've been around, so no getting none of them ideas now.....
haha relax lol

Its not bro science its actual science, please don't insult my intelligence, ive spent countless hours researching what i need to do to achieve my goals... no i don't have a trainers certification but i have done my due diligence to research what needs to be done and the science behind it, I've had trial and error in the gym and still do to this day... when i share something ot isn't just me talking out my *kitten* its me sharing something i know works because I've researched it, tried it and have seen optimal results
So have a lot of other people here. Which is why some of the broscience you're putting out there is being challenged.
What bro science? Lol what have i said exactly thats bro science, because i believe earlier I posted real scientific studies to back what I've said... just because i have muscles doesn't mean i spew bro science. And if you truly did the research you'd know that
"Kickstart your metabolism", "shock your body" - both of those are BS straight off the Dr. Oz show or some cheesy diet supplement ad. Claiming that you'll burn less and less calories as your body adapts to cardio - not true either. Making the blanket statement that HIIT is superior to LISS for cardio - the effect of EPOC (if you know what that is) isn't near as large as you think it is. All straight up broscience. Prove me wrong - post some scientific studies that show how you can "kickstart your metabolism". I'm sure a lot of people here struggling with weight loss would like to know how that's done, and see scientific validation that it is possible.
You claim to have "optimal" results with your methods. You may have good results - maybe even very good results - but unless you've compared your methods against other methods and controls in an RCT with defined parameters and measurement criteria, you don't know that they're "optimal".
You started off strong with the part about not being able to spot reduce (target fat loss), but it went downhill into the woo from there.
Doctor oz is *kitten*. I posted links to actual scientific studies from ncbi so again tell me what bro science? I doubt these muscles came from things that don't work.
Neither of those links were studiesYou guys are delusional, I'm over it ... i never said it was the only way.. what I'm saying is try something new and work harder
Its obvious there's a bunch of close minded folks in this place so hey if what you're doing works for you then cool, don't know why you commented to begin with.
Its funny to see people who are out of shape tell me how what im saying is wrong lmao jesus i should go take financial advice from a homeless person too i guess
Hi.
I'm in pretty good shape, feel free to check my photo gallery. I only mention this part because you seem to be concerned about the condition someone is in when they question you.
If you're concerned about qualifications and experience I have multiple PT certifications and I generally stay up to speed to the best of my ability through a couple of research reviews. Nothing terribly impressive but certainly more than "zero". I also run a successful and growing online coaching business and I also have experience training clients in a live gym setting.
I do this for a living. And that fact alone doesn't make me right, it only makes me experienced.
I'm also happy to tell you my lifts if it concerns you.
Now on to more important stuff.
You're correct about spot reduction being a myth.
You're incorrect about the blind advocacy for HIIT. HIIT has a MUCH larger recovery component compared to LISS. HIIT also requires the individual to be in better starting condition to even execute it correctly in the first place. In a forum with a broad mix of demographics, recommending a specific exercise or modality of training is potentially harmful advice.
From a fat loss perspective, it is going to boil down to creating a calorie deficit. HIIT may be a more efficient way to achieve cardiovascular adaptations, it may be a more efficient way to burn calories, but it's FAR more taxing on recovery systems and so consequently it's harder to position into an overall training program.
HIIT on a treadmill is not a great idea either -- adjusting the speed appropriately can suck, and additional stress from impact can be a pretty big negative for a lot of people. Using a bike could be a much more tolerable choice but it will again come down to individual goals and preferences there.
Your belief about fasted cardio being superior for fat loss is false if the goal is overall whole body fat loss. Schoenfeld studied this here:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4242477/
Fasted cardio increased acute fat oxidation during the training bout but it does not lead to greater changes in body fat loss over time. This is why you can't look at things in a vacuum.
Have a nice day.
Just quoting this so it gets repeated. I'm thinking I'm not the first person to quote it. Off to read the rest of the thread.6 -
OP, this is a sincere question--how much time have you spent reading the MFP forums and understanding the general vibe/cultural around here? It does not seem as if you have been at it that long and I think that was likely a big reason why your thread has not gone over well. If you would have spent more time learning about the people on the boards, not necessarily individually but as a group, you would have had a better idea of your audience and how to approach a topic. You sound really excited and into what you are talking about, which is great, but in general it is best to be a bit of a known poster before trying to "be inspiring." The odds are it would just come off better. Especially if your wording wasn't so absolute.
How is that my problem though? This is a board to help people so when i give an example and make an overall statement to get people to see things differently why should i be subjected to negativity because I'm "new" how does the info change?
My intentions weren't to be absolute, or to be judgmental, or come off as this is the only way, nothing i wrote should have eluded to that at all and I'm confused to how people saw it that way, maybe i could have worded it differently but i feel as though the message was pretty clear, hey lets break our routines a little, and push a little harder.. i used hiit as an example and people took that and ran with it largely due to insecurity. Hiit was just an example to support the overal message of pushing ourselves a little
But that message is now lost in a sea of insecurity and negativity
It's your problem because you didn't take time to know/learn your audience...
Hey - that's my line!
IOW: I approve this message.

OP: Your profile indicates you've lost 26 lbs and still have 33 to go.
May I suggest some steady-state cardio?21 -

I miss Antdelsa.
The way he would look at me with that determination in his eyes, and casually berate me for being fat and lazy.
But now, now he's gone.
He's GONE, everyone.
How am I going to fill the void in my heart?
I wrote this poem in memory of antdelsa.
Antdelsa the man, who trained like a beast
His info was lacking, so he shamed the obese
"You're lazy! You're fat" were the insults he sent
While he boasted his e-stats "215, 7%"
We all greatly miss him, I'd say he was a HIIT.
His thread was so fun, but his advice was *kitten*
WAIT A MINUTE, HIIT AND KITTEN DON'T RHYME......38 -

rev it up with some hiit training, get that heart rate up and the calories will burn extremely fast, you have to shock your bodies and keep it guessing!!!
1.) What is hiit training?
2.) What are some exercises you recommend for fat loss that don't involve a machine? (I only have a treadmill, a stepper-thingy, and a low bike machine)
3.) I'm a wimp. I'm 5'7.5" and 140 lbs and I'm so out of shape that stairs wear me out. An exercise that gets my heart racing or my body aching makes me want to crash. What's the deal, is this normal, and if it's normal then how do you recommend overcoming it?
I have been walking on the treadmill and burning calories and trying to maintain calorie deficit every day. Weight/fat loss is only about the calorie deficit, right?? Or is it more in-depth than that (as you say, you have to have a high heart-rate and keep your body guessing) and how so??
Thanks.0 -

I am kicking myself for not doing the math earlier. I was just so gobsmacked at how childish posting it was that it didn't even occur to me.
Now it's even funnier.5 -

That equates to 9 1/2 hours of very slow-paced walking.
Like on a treadmill...

Well, that's weird. No description of an actual study design, just a bunch of assertions with nothing to back them up.1 -
You should have stopped while you were ahead rather than start adding a load of other myths!
Best to avoid using absolute phrases like "the only way....". Because if you think about it there are many methods to achieve fat loss not just one.
What about anything i said is a myth?
All I'm saying is the more you put in the more you get out... how is this a myth.. how is mixing hiit into your training not beneficial over just doing steady state cardio? How is shocking the body a myth?
Please let me know lol
As I said before, it depends on your goals. Sometimes doing "too much" cardio, pushing the limits and HIIT can actually work negatively as I mentioned - in my case, it would have affected my recovery for lifting. So there is one reason right there.
I lift 7 days a week, 2 to 3 days a week i do some form of hiit ...
Get some good bcaas and beta alanine, because it shouldn't be a recovery issue. Too much cardio can be negative especially to lifters which is why hiit is a much better option in my opinion
Look at a marathon runners body compared to a sprinters ...
You yourself, do something; other than HIIT! So then save time, by not lifting & just doing HIIT! So you see, you even have a different exercise regimen; than what you're recommending! We all have goals, limitations & favorite methods of achieving them, regardless of time consumption! Some people'd rather use a needle & thread, to sew something; instead of using a sewing machine!2 -
Op, you sound like the dou*che from sausage party...2
