Checking in....I was hungry all day yesterday because of a massive workout the evening before....but I wanted to stay with my preset calories and macros....it resulted in me having a strong craving in the afternoon for a drink...by 4pm I had surrendered and thought for sure I am getting a drink later...then I told a coworker that I was doing Dry January and was craving and they said its only Jan 4, you can do it....for some reason that helped and I am here on Dry day 5...slipper slippery10

It's only a bandaid that gets ripped off the next day & then over & over until you stop it!! I've already stopped it, so why go backwards & go through all that again....
Actually, it isn't the thought of going "through all that again." It's the thought, "What if I didn't want to go through it all again & I just kept drinking...?" It happens, but I don't want it to happen to me...
Can someone give me some happy thoughts please.....?
Sorry I did not see this sooner...I hope you are feeling better....just realize that how crappy you feel, you will only make it worse by drinking....the only path to feeling better is AF6 -
@NormInv Love your new photo! But of course, I miss your beard though. Xo
I’m happy you pushed through. That is a lesson for all of us. When we’re thinking about caving, let someone know.3 -

Sober weekend: What will all of us do to keep busy? Now that we will have tons more time on our hands.
I will exercise , journal, watch a movie, and maybe get back to painting. I was also thinking about learning Spanish so I can travel more to faraway places like Costa Rica.5 -
One more thing.... I have identified my triggers are certain girlfriends and certain bars. So, for January I will have to stay clear of both.5

Proud of you! I am happy for you that you made the right choice, let’s do it!
I have been drinking wine for years and also decided for dry January. I am happy that I made that decision. Thinking clearer, more energy, slept great last night (few nights of tossing and turning, didn’t sleep well). It also made me realize I have been using wine to help me go to sleep. I don’t need that.
I do like the app for dry January. Keeps track of how many sober days, graphs etc.
Best to all!

Hi Ruby!
I will exercise, food prep, organize my closet, read and make tea! One thing for me that has been a big help is hot tea! I love to cook while drinking wine and having wine with dinner. Instead I bought a glass teapot I can put on the stove and then have flowering pods that are beautiful! I feel like I am not giving up my wine as much and know I am making healthier choices.
That is really cool about thinking of learning Spanish. Great free app called Duolingo out there that I used while learning Italian. I wanted to learn key words/phrases before we went to Italy last summer. Not fluent, but it was fun!

It's Saturday night, the 5th day of Dry January! Aside from a FEW fleeting longings, I am doing pretty well....not really craving, but eating so many sweets. Ugh. Anyway we are watching a movie tonight with subtitles so I'm glad I will be sober so I can read it with both eyes open and remember it after. Happy weekend, Friends!8

@Norminv YAY you!!
@JenT304 Yes with the sweets. I made Butter Tart Squares for dessert tomorrow to serve with vanilla ice cream. I HAD to try it before serving to my guests. The 2nd piece was almost as good as the first LOL
I'm organized for my dinner. Just need to vacuum the bachelorette pad which will take me all of 15 mins. That is one really good thing about living in a "shoe box" cleaning is a breeze!
AND....drumroll please......................The countdown is on to my wine-fee zone...22 hours to D-day!!
@RubyRed427 Very insightful identifying your triggers. Happy Day 5
@Fitness327wk Great to hear your enjoying the benefits of being AF.
@MrSunshinez YES WE CAN DO THIS!!4 -
Good morning all. It’s day 6 already. Heading to that wonderful day 10. It’s sometimes like being on a roller coaster ride and sometimes around the corners, you have to hang on really tight so you don’t fall off. Other times, it’s like going up that big hill and then coasting down in exhilaration. With each passing minute, I feel better. The evenings are hard sometimes. I go through many thought patterns like “I’ll just have one little sip.” Or “why am i working so hard, for what?”
Then, I remember my “why”. All of the “whys” and then reassure myself that I’m doing what is best for me and my family.
Hope your day is peachy! I painted last night for two hours and that is such a mindful task. Be sure to immerse yourself into a hobby.5 -

Thanks! I downloaded Duolingo and did my first lesson. Xo2 -
We use Duolingo too! My hubby, daughter, and I are using it to learn Spanish. It’s a great little app!
Regarding keeping busy.....I think this is so important. In the past year, I have completed several knitting and sewing projects that languished for years, unfinished. I find that having a cup of tea in the evening and knitting fills that need to be doing something. It’s relaxing and purposeful, and just ticks all the right boxes for me.
What hobbies does everyone have? I knit, quilt, and sew. I love that I’m able to make beautiful and useful items. I recently sorted through a bunch of my fabric and yarn stash, and donated the items I knew I would never get around to using. I then gathered several unfinished items/projects and am working my way through completing them. I have a sizeable stash of completed hats which I’m getting ready to donate to people in my area that need something warm for their head7 -
That is awesome!3

I like to knit as well.I used gigantic (size 50) knitting needles and made my daughter in London a shawl for Xmas. She was so touched to have a handmade gift from Mom. I could never had done that drinking wine every night. It would have been a hot mess, full of mistakes.6

Good morning gang! Waking up clear headed again today. Last night was a true test though. I'm a graphic designer but not to hot on the website coding side. I was having so many problems with WordPress I was on the brink of going out and getting a bottle of something. But...I decided to say a few choice words, turn off the pc and go to bed. Woke up this morning, chatted with technical support and all is well again. Good Sunday to all!9

My daughter and I saw big needles like that at the store the other day! That's wonderful that you created a lovely, useable gift for your daughter! It will be treasured, I am sure!

Well said! The evenings are the toughest for me as well. Breaking old habits! It is a wonderful thing when I wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and not dreading what I may have done the night prior. I do at times get frustrated...well everyone else is drinking and its really not that bad, however, like you I remind myself of the reasons “why”! I want and will be the best for my family, the Lord and true to myself.
I feel that once I don’t have my “cocktail” hour prior to dinner and eat a healthy meal then I am set! Day six baby!!

Today the old man and I went to a jazz brunch (tea for me, coffee for him) then went on a hike as we are having unseasonably warm weather for January. Watching football now and felt a tiny tug as my husband made himself a scotch, but am having my chamomile tea. Day 7 tomorrow. I'll just keep on keepin' on. Have a good week, Friends.8
