I was feeling good today, so ran 12k, and later hiked almost 5 with the family. The usual things hurt now, which was actually kind of intentional because I didn't want to show up for my physio appointment tomorrow feeling fine. Really hoping for answers, because not running isn't an acceptable solution for me.
Also someone found an unexploded WWII hand grenade in the forest. It's something that happens in the country from time to time, but YIKES!6 -

I had a great 5 mile run this morning. I usually take Mondays as rest days, but since I raced Saturday and didn't run Sunday I really wanted to get out there. Plus we may have storms later this week. The weather was pretty nice. It was kind of warm and humid but not too bad. It was winder than I like, but the wind did help keep me cool. I haven't had a chance to read the thread yet today but I wanted to go ahead and post my run.

Quick bike ride before my appointment. Uneventful, other than apparently it's "ignore oncoming cyclists while overtaking other vehicles" day. The one potentially more serious one (I had no shoulder to move over on) at least saw me in time and gave a "sorry" wave as he went by.
Good news is the physio says I don't have anything seriously wrong with my back - it appears to all be in the muscles and should be fixable. I'm sore now from the visit, and am to not train for 2 days (that's not too bad!) and he added a couple more exercises to my daily routine which felt like they were targeting the right areas. I'm hopeful.7 -

I got called into work today, so my plans are all up in the air. I do hope to get the lawn mowed after I get home, so it may be another walk day. We'll see how I feel once everything I need to do gets done.3 -

I woke with the stomach bug yesterday morning so no run for me. Thankfully it was short-lived. Just a rough few hours. This morning it was 48F and the full moon was still in the sky when I started while the sun was making a beautiful show on the horizon in the east. Pretty uneventful but I noticed on my Garmin and Strava maps that when I turned around instead of following the road back (which I did), the maps show me going in a straight line. Is this because I lost GPS signal or something?
@katharmonic – Your day yesterday sounded perfect! Sleeping in Running on the beach. Starbucks. Relaxation… Well deserved! Safe travels home today.
@tramboman – You’re going to be ready for your upcoming races with all those Garmin PRs! Good job!
Great news from physio @polskagirl01. Sorry for the rude drivers and wow on that hand grenade! Not something I hear about often.

In training for first full marathon, and have hit a wall in the process. Exhausted over the last 2 weeks and only managed
04/16 = 8 k
04/18 = 34 k (more energetic today)
04/20 = 8 k
04/21 = 11.5 k
04/23 = zippo - should've done 8.2 k
04/25 = 20 k (schedule had me doing 30)
04/27 = scheduled for 6.2 k - wish me luck
To 04/25 I have 192.4 k. I don't know how to find my earlier entry with my goal, but I'm assuming it was 200 K for April. Wish me luck - I know there's a lot of April left, but I'm two weeks out from marathon, feeling exhausted and tapering starts later this week.
Congrats to all who have already met or exceeded their April goals. You are each superstars in my eyes! Be proud.5 -

Another warm run. Despite that I felt good today and my run/walk ratio was better than yesterday, although my pace wound up a just a bit slower.
@polskagirl01 - Great to hear the physio found no injuries! Not so good to hear about hand grenades in your running area.
@Teresa502 - That looks to me like a classic case of losing GPS for a bit and it catching up later by connecting the two most recent dots.
@rb3551 - Honor the taper, and you should still be OK to run your marathon. I hit a similar wall before my first marathon and had to back down just prior to the taper. I actually fell ill due to overtraining. I was still able to finish though. Just be careful and take it easy on race day. Remember, no matter what your finish time is, it is the fastest marathon time you have ever run. Just get yourself to the finish line. After that you can try and figure out if you want to beat that time, and be better prepared to tackle that with everything you learned this time around.7 -

I think it's pretty normal to feel some burn-out at this stage of your marathon training. Do you run with others? If not, is there someone or more than one person who can run with you to help entertain you? Even if they just run part of the mileage it would be a good distraction. Something that helped me in training for my marathon last year is doing my long run in different areas. It sometimes required driving 45 minutes or so, but just seeing different streets and scenery helped immensely.
As @WhatMeRunning said - honor thy taper!!2 -
WhatMeRunning wrote: »@Teresa502 - That looks to me like a classic case of losing GPS for a bit and it catching up later by connecting the two most recent dots.
That makes sense. When I got back close to home and checked my watch, I felt like I should have had more mileage than it showed. I guess that could explain it a little bit.
1 -
@rb3551 yes, it's very common to feel exhausted at that point. Also normal to be overwhelmed with doubts and questioning your choices and ability to run a marathon. It's AMAZING what that taper can do though!
@Teresa502 My watch also does a straight line between points like that if I pause the workout manually and forget to unpause it. Could you have bumped the button? If not, probably just lost the signal.2 -
6.5 mile run, average pace of 8:49 min per mile with 389 feet of Elevation.4

This is good advice! Same here for my first (and last) marathon, I was so exhausted and just so tired of it all at the end of training. I think a taper does much more good than trying to push through and squeeze out a few more days of mileage. You will be ready! And totally agree with setting your goal to finish. You can do this! You've trained!

I flew back home last night - my flight ended up being delayed and I didn't get in until about 1:30 in the morning so today was a rough transition back to work. I brought my stuff with me to run after work but my friend couldn't meet me so I had trouble self-motivating. I ended up going home and taking Stella out with me for a short run. Now we are both exhausted and ready for early bed.

@Teresa502 I've had that happen to me too. I think it is a loss in the GPS signal, so it goes in a straight line from where it lost it until it found it again. It's annoying. Probably showed less mileage than you actually ran too.
@rb3551 Hopefully the taper is what you need to get your mojo back! Good luck with the rest of the month and your marathon.
@katharmonic Sorry about the delayed flight. It's so hard to get in that late and then have to go to work the next day. I think you did great going for a short run with Stella.

I went in to work for 4 hours today. It was after 4 pm when I got home. I went out and mowed my lawn - took nearly 2 hours and I traversed 2.66 miles in so doing. Then, to keep my streak going, I walked a mile on the driveway. I seriously considered giving up the streak today. Glad I didn't.7 -

Today's run was really great. It was warm and windy so it felt like summer. I don't really know what made it such a good run, but I just really got into the zone. So much so that I missed my turn on the way home and ended up running 6 miles instead of my planned 5. I love runs like that.
It looks like I won't meet my goal this month, but I am ok with that. My main goal for April was to do well in my 10K. I think the extra rest days for my feet were better for me than meeting an arbitrary goal. We ate expecting thunderstorms overnight and early in the morning so there is a chance I won't get to run in the morning.

Met my long run goal for April which is 9 miles. Increasing my long runs slowly this year after 2020. It's hard because I feel so good, but I don't want to injure myself. So, slow it is.

@kgirlhart Glad you had such a great run! I agree. Taking care of yourself is much more important than meeting some arbitrary goal. And, you killed that 10K!
@pfeiferlindsey Whoot!!!! Congratulations on your 100 mile month! You should be proud of yourself.1 -

Mostly sunny, upper 60s F, and a brisk wind from the south. One of those days with little motivation and even less energy. Heard toads trilling (about two weeks early); saw a big snapping turtle swimming in a pond; and there was a baby's pacifier lying on the trail.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)

Today was the first stamina effort run in this warmer weather, and while it felt extra sucky on the outbound portion, I felt really strong on the return portion. It's either due to the outbound part being slightly uphill making the return a nice long, slow downhill run, or it might just be that I kicked it up like a bad-*kitten*. The jury is still out on that one.
Congrats on hitting 100 @pfeiferlindsey6 -

That's quite possible!2 -
@Scott6255 You are pulverizing your goal this month!
@Tramboman There's probably a family somewhere frantically looking for said pacifier while listening to a screaming baby. Nice run, even if you weren't feeling it.
@WhatMeRunning I'd go with the latter, if I were you.2 -
Woke up to a tummy out of sorts again today so I missed my morning run....unless you count running to the bathroom.9

6.6 mile hilly run with 1,739 feet of Elevation. I have now surpassed my running goal of 100 miles this month 😊.
April cumulative: 103/100 miles - 7,790 feet of Elevation.3 -
Not sure how I got 4 pages behind here. I read through and made appropriate likes and hugs. Lots of great running going on.
Congratulations @kgirlhart!!
@RunsOnEspresso - I keep a few disposable masks in my car now just for when I head off somewhere and realize I have forgotten to bring one.
@Teresa502 - I have had that happen a few times when my watch will decide randomly to reset or to pause, or if I forget to restart after a pause. Hope your tummy feels better.
@pfeiferlindsey - welcome to the 100 mile club!! Unfortunately I will not be joining you there this month but maybe in May!
I had an awesome run on Monday. It was cool and lovely out and everything felt good. I ended up running my Scooby-Doo virtual 10k and actually had a much better pace than I have hit in a while, even with walking initially with Hobbes and with a lady who wanted to talk to me when we got to the trail. Today's run was not so great. It seemed like everything was sore and tired and I had a few times where I just couldn't catch my breath even with walking. Not sure what was going on but I did have PT yesterday so maybe from that or lingering tiredness from my run followed by lots of running at agility on Monday. Hopefully Friday will be better. I have been released from PT and now just need to keep up the slew of exercises she gave me along with a daily dose of stretches.
