I forgot to share my latest NSV with you.

I went to a baby shower Saturday, and there was homemade cupcakes, veggies and dip, nuts, chocolate covered pretzel sticks, watermelon, pistachio salad, and candy. I filled 2 small plates with veggies and little bit of dip, 1 pretzel, watermelon, mixed nuts, (just a few) 4 buttermints, (which I shared with Mr. Mo) and a small scoop of pistachio salad. I totally skipped the cupcakes!!! I didn't even feel like I was missing out because everyone that ate one, had blue lips and tongue.

This is a NSV! I LOVE cupcakes. However blue lips, teeth and tongue are not my favorite.

I spent $250 yesterday on new workout clothes and a new pair of shoes for lifting....totally didn't have the money to spend...but somehow, I don't regret it...

Can one ever regret cute new clothes?

And of course you want to ensure you have proper footwear for your workouts

Exactly! I was quite proud of myself today. When my niece got I'll and our trip got canceled for today (so far tomorrow is still on) I went to my oil changed and stopped at TJMAXX and actually walked out only buying 1 pair of shorts (what I went for) and put the adorable hot pink train running jacket I had picked up and totally didn't need back. Yay me!

Although I will be passing by there again tomorrow...

    I love workout clothes.

I confess that I judge the people on my Facebook page who get into relationships where both parties tell eachother how much they are in love and will always be together.... only to break up a week later.

I just saw this happen... but it didn't even last one week. They broke up after four days. Made me cringe. :(

Haha! Or the ones that their status changes from single to together over and over again......

Goodness, yes. Crazy back and forth TMI love messages on the public wall drive me nuts. Take it to PM, OR hey, say it to them in person. Crazy, I know!

What about the people that fight on FB where everyone can watch. No shame.

    I know, all crazy!

Like one guy always posts about his wonderful wife.....well buddy, I am sure she is sitting on the sofa next to you, just tell her!

Or the ones that air all their dirty laundry, about marital problems, money troubles or whatever else.....like really?

@pofoster21 I'm behind and checking in from page 1360 & 1361 - LOVED the pics of your 1/2 marathon! And congrats on your NSV - you DO look petite! You are quite an inspiration here! I wish I liked running - you make it sound just so darned enjoyable. Maybe I will give it another chance once I get down to near my "goal weight" (another 15 - 20 lbs).

Running is therapeutic and enjoyable. Just start slow and build up. You will love it. There is nothing like the act of moving your body through space, and that moment in your stride where you are airborne (both feet off the ground ) feels like flying. :)

I have no food in my house. No wine, no snacks, no goodies. I can't eat anything in moderation when its in my house.

Yeah, we saw your fridge.....apparently mints are the only thing you can control yourself around, LMAO!

@Italian_Buju I think the mints were for the horses! Hee hee...

Yep! They are horse treats. I hardly ever eat those mints! But the horses. ...they love them. Whenever I give a horse who had never had one for the first time their eyes light up as soon as they bite it. :)

Awww! That makes me smile!
Also, sorry you had to cancel your plans...hope your niece feels better!

Nice! What is pistachio salad? Sounds yummy.

Instant pistachio pudding mix is combined with whipped topping, miniature marshmallows, crushed pineapple, and nuts. This particular salad had a few too many marshmallows for me. I'm sure everyone makes theirs different, but this one was pretty good and not super heavy.

I thought we were the only people who made that! My mom makes it every Christmas. She calls it "snow salad". LOL

Marshmallows, pudding and whipped cream - yep, salad.

Yea my sister makes that too. I love it. She also makes one with cherry pie filling (it may be the picture below) and that is super tasty too!

My grandma made it at Thanksgiving. She called it Watergate Salad.

Speaking of cherry pie filling - has anyone tried the dessert where you substitute all the liquid ingredients in chocolate cake with a can of cherry pie filling? This is relevant to my interests.

If this is a thing, I need it in my life mouth PDQ.

You can mix most cake mixes with pumpkin (or pureed beans if you're into protein - black beans are actually kind of awesome in brownies because the texture is very dense and fudgey), so I would imagine something pectin-y like cherry pie filling would probably work fine too (heck, there's an old Weight Watchers "recipe" where you mix diet pop with cake mix and it still works.)

I'm not a big cherry fan (I do like fresh ones, but not so much in stuff usually) so I haven't tried it, but I've definitely done some lazy baking with pumpkin and bean and it's totally edible.

Just stop with the so-easy-even-Ythannah-will-make-it dessert ideas... now I want Pistachio Salad and Cherry Fluff Dessert Salad and pumpkin/black bean mix cake. Stop. Now.

    :s

If you can manage to keep it to a reasonable portion, the black bean brownies etc are actually pretty doable and have passable macros for most people, if you care - I used to make them on 1200/day all the time and eat them for breakfast, haha. Depends on the mix you buy, obviously, but still.

Mix the pumpkin one with spice cake or similar.

I am normally a pretty big baking snob with everything from scratch and best-quality and all that nonsense, but it goes out the window if I just want to eat something sweet and not share it with anyone. I'm also the queen of making myself one single cookie. Just one. In the toaster oven.

Are you throwing pureed black beans into a chocolate cake mix or a brownie mix? And what kind of quantity?

I don't actually have "macros" as such, I just try to hit 90 grams of protein a day. The rest is dictated more by IBS than anything else. Says the woman currently eating leftover Duncan Hines frosting out of the tub... with an ice cream bar stick.

Maybe I should save some for my healthy, protein-packed brownies?

Eh, no need to ruin perfectly good frosting with brownies.

If you want to try it, take a large can of black beans (15 oz, I think? can't remember the conversion offhand), drain and rinse them and the can really well, then put them back in the can, fill the remaining space with water up to the top of the can, then puree the beans and water well in a blender. Throw those in with a package of brownie mix and bake as directed (they might take a little longer though.)

Thanks. I'll be doing that soon! (like tomorrow soon) And thank you for saying "blender" rather than "food processor" as I don't own one of the latter.

The cool whip/marshmallow pseudo-salads will probably have to wait until the SO is home to help me eat them but brownies will keep a little better... moderation, y'know ;)

HIYA ALL! This weekend was pretty busy, I worked Saturday and went to accupuncture. Yesterday was stupidly hot so we helped the mancreature's parents with some landscaping (I needed some sun anyway so I wore my bikini top and shorts). We also went to GNC (all the Quest Bars were on sale!!), I got to finally try the chocolate mint one and I love it! I also bought Quest protein powder (Peanut butter), which wasn't available before in Canada. I've got two months until my half marathon and the wedding that I'm a Bridesmaid in, time to tighten things up and get back into the swing of things! Lol

I am thrilled that you posted this! I traveled all over the city last week looking for Quest bars in the flavors I wanted, and still did not get them all!

I never thought of GNC til I saw this post. Not only is it literally up the street from me, the bars are cheaper AND they have a bunch of different flavors......

I love that this thread pointed me in the direction of those bars, I love them! I have tried powders, but do not like milk and juice is so sugary, and have tried other bars, and while I liked them, the carb counts were so high that I only ate them once in a while.

The net carb count for these is so low not only can I eat them often, but I can actually have fruit at breakfast which is exciting for me, as I normally cannot seem to make it work with my blood sugar normally. Except for berries cuz they are so low in sugar. My plan is to have a Quest bar four times a week for breakfast, with just greek yogurt and fruit (FRUIT!!) LOL. I have tried three flavors so far and have loved them all, I can't wait to go tomorrow and see what other kinds they have.

Has anyone tried the Quest protein chips?

What were your favorite flavors so far?

I officially deem the worst flavor Coconut Cashew! I ate that one Saturday & had to force myself to finish it.

@Francl27 I'm pretty sure has ate The Quest Protein Chips.

My favorite so far is the chocolate chip cookie dough......I have also tried the chocolate peanut butter and double chocolate chunk....both great. I plan on buying ten bars tomorrow, with a couple cookie dough and then one of each flavor I want to try so I can figure out which ones are gonna be my go to ones (I did that with Hagaan Dazs at the beginning too, ;) ).

If they have the chips I am gonna buy a bag and try them out.

ETA: @spacequiztime - just saw your post now.....why were they awful?? Second this last sentence, lol.

Another one that disappointed me was the S'Mores bar since it didn't really have that much of a S'Mores taste. The White Chocolate Raspberry bars are my favorite, but with them you have raspberry seeds that can get stuck in your teeth which is a bit of an annoyance. My sister's favorite flavor so far is the Cookies & Cream.
I am hoping to try the cookies and creme, white chocolate raspberry, peanut butter and jelly, apple pie, cinnamon roll, strawberry cheesecake, brownie and maybe the mint chocolate. Mind you, I have no idea what flavors they have, but that is just what I saw online.

Is it silly that I am THIS excited to go and buy protein bars??

Not at all! My sister & I went to GNC a few weeks ago & we were like kids in a candy store. Do you buy them from GNC or another store? If you buy them from GNC you can purchase a Gold card that at least in the US makes the boxes $24.99. On the Quest website on Cyber Monday I believe the price per box was even cheaper than GNC.

Well the first two I bought at Zehrs, and then Commisso's for the next few.....but then someone here said GNC so I went there today, and they have ALL the flavors! Not three like the grocery store, lol. Plus they are always buy 4 get one free, AND you can mix and match with the chips.

Within a months time I will have tried all the flavors (except for the few that do not look appealing to me at all), and will know which ones are my go to!

Y'all are going to keep talking about quest bars until I try them. No coconut cashew for me though... allergic to coconut.

I have no desire to try that one either.....oddly, I used to be allergic to coconut when I was a kid, but am not anymore and am now allergic to flaxseed instead......

Except for crayon and coupon (q-pon), I pronounce each of those words interchangeably. I guess it depends on my mood or something.

I also randomly bust out with a fake British accent. :)

Doesn't every non-British person? I assume British people will bust out fake American or Canadian accents too.

I would think that is how Hugh Laurie got the role of House. Frequent random practice.

Whenever he was on a late night show my jaw dropped whenever I realized he was actually from England.

My sister was the one who said "You gotta watch this interview with Hugh Laurie!" I was like okay whatever... I went to sit in the chair as she hit play and I missed and fell on the floor!
Like, REALLY?! He's from ENGLAND?! :astonished:

Go back and watch Friends episode "The One With Ross's Wedding Pt. 2. He's sitting next to Rachel on the plane. He has his accent.

OMG, I thought about that exact same thing when someone mentioned Hugh Laurie

Hugh Laurie is a legend. In his younger years he was in a comedy called Black Adder and it's my absolute favourite.
Also FYI he is a brilliant singer and musician. <3
I saw him and his band a few years back! Before that I had no idea he did music....and I have never watched House, but I see it is on Netflix!

I love Hugh Laurie. You should watch House. I never knew he sang. Interesting. I think he is cute too

I just checked and it is on my to watch list!

Yeah, I saw him with Terry Hacher from Desperate Housewives, and the guy that played Mike on that show.....and a few others I did not know so I can't remember....they were playing at the casino here and my late best friend took me for my birthday like four years ago!

I ate the cheddar and sour cream chips just cause.

These chips were actually edible. The flavor was a lot more mild than the salt and vinegar chips.
I would say give them a shot if you're hankerin' for some quick protein and don't want something sweet.

On the back of the bag, it warns people not to eat them in diets less than 400 calories a day without medical supervision. Barring something like 6 / 1 fasting, I have no idea how or why someone would even try a diet like that. :open_mouth:

I'm sorry that you had to postpone your trip @pofoster ! I hope your niece feels better soon. A trip to New York sounds so amazing.

Ohh, sorry it affected you so strongly!

I can't stand the taste of them. I wish they didn't come at the end of the bar, that kind of spoils it. Probably why I mostly stick to drumstick-type cones. But this was a PC Blue Menu kefir bar... love kefir.

The other taste that bothers me is the metallic taste from metal water bottles. I prefer plastic, even if it leeches all kinds of evil chemicals into my water.

Just reading this gave me goosebumps! I CANNOT stand touching any kind of unfinished wood....I sadly cannot enjoy any kind of Popsicle or ice cream on a stick :/

Don't be sorry! Most people laugh.....my family has been known to chase me around with one, lol. It can get kinda funny.....whenever there is food on a stick, someone here knows to remove it for me before I can eat it.

It is sad though cuz there are so many yummy things on a stick I can't eat!

It is really weird looking at the BMI scale and seeing I would be considered obese if I just gained 35 or so more pounds... when right now I'm in the normal range. 35 pounds doesn't seem like that much (of course I don't want to test that out).

Having just lost that much it is a lot. Especially on a 5'4 woman.
Yeah, I've never been 35 pounds heavier than I am, but since I'm 5'2 I guess I can understand how I might look pretty fat  I already consider myself chubby as it is.

Stop. Now.

@KylerJaye I didn't backtrack to the original post. I just wanted to second whoever told you to be sure to be yourself. Be very true to you but in order to do that you have to know yourself well. For me that means checking in with myself and checking in with my motives. Speaking just of myself, sometimes I want things to go a certain way so I push them that way. In my present relationship I am trying very hard to (1) know what I want and (2) see if SO wants the same thing or compatible thing without pushing anything. Sometimes I have to sit on my hands and restrain myself but I want to make sure we want the same thing without him being pushed into anything. I am super sleepy so I hope that made sense. To thine own self be true. <3

ETA This is advice I am going to work very hard to follow in my life in the coming months to year. I just found out about son possibly needing another heart surgery. I will be interested to see SO's reaction. His son also has special needs but has not needed surgeries. It is going to be challenging for me to watch my son go into the congestive heart failure again (unless medicine has changed since the last time and that is possible too) before they take the risk of surgery. I need to figure out what I need/expect from SO and I need to see what he does without being pushed into anything. This will certainly be a place when I can see how compatible we are long term. Would I cut him free if he does not handle it well? Yes. I know that people are who they are and real change is rare. So far it has been good. We'll see where this new development leads. I will not settle for less than a great match.

ETA #2 Just spoke to him. His initial reaction was loving and compassionate and just right. <3

I am sending you some positive vibes that everything works out for your son . Hugs to you!
Thank you. I know a lot of you also posted similar things (or thought it). Thank you all so very much. There is nothing to do for awhile it is just me getting used to it and gearing up mentally to do this again. I thank you all again!

Well, I held out but we had pizza today at work for completeing a survey for the hospital. I did have some salad with it and two pieces of pizza. It looks like I can fit it in my day, but I may have to do a bit more walking. Pretty good for me, I didn't completely wreck the day.

Sounds like an awesome day! What's everyone's favorite pizza?

Mine is either plain cheese, pizza with cheeseburger, sausage, & mushrooms, or pineapple pizza.

    that was @pofoster21 :)
i'm working really hard to be honest in what my expectations are, as well as being fully open with my personality issues. he's been really responsive and understanding. and also really open about his issues too. which is nice to finally have someone i feel that i can talk to and not have to worry about being yelled at in response.

    post date update:
last night mr jaye invited me over for homemade gluten free pizza. i thought it was pretty sweet. the gesture, not the pizza, although the pizza was good! lol

also, i wish your son the absolute best! that's gotta be so scary, but i know you're strong and will help him fight through anything. and yay! for the SO being supportive of you, that's great!

Thank you. Your sweetie sounds like a good guy and as a long-time GF person I am happy he can cook that for you. Daughter and I tried a new restaurant today that is vegan and gluten-free. It is the one place I can order anything on the menu and not worry that I'll get sick. I have not had that option in so long I can't remember when.

Morning all. Just checking in. Not be around much, as trying to deal with life changes and what-not. I'm currently living in a hotel during the week and have hired a new trainer to take me through some strength/lifting routines. Food has been somewhat erratic, with a couple of terrible binge days. Basically negating all the training.

Partners (ex-partners?) and I are talking, trying to sort the mess to see if/how we can go forward together. Mr Smartie has seen his GP for medication and had an initial assessment with a therapist. We are waiting for a referral to a specialist military therapist. I feel that I am not quite done with them yet, so have committed to try and see if we can move on together.

In other news: we're still waiting on social services to make decisions about my sister's baby, so I feel i can't make any plans past the end of September.

I am planning a holiday with my parents and Charlie at the end of September, and i would dearly love to be down about 20lbs by then.

Mum saw her consultant yesterday. He is pleased with the way the operation went, but now she begins treatment 3 times a week for 6 weeks.

So all in all, its been a little bit of a stressful month.

thank you to everyone who messaged me and left notes on my wall. I'm sorry I wasn't that able to engage, it was just taking a lot of energy to remain upright some days.

<3 Hang in there and take care of yourself.

    Yes to all of this.

My mom used to make a dark chocolate cake. Bake in a rectangle pan. Cook a bit (I don't know if all the way or not?) then put a can of cherry pie filling on it, then put whipped cream (or in her case probably cool-whip) over the top of all of that. The pan kept everything in place. It has been many years since I learned that I can't have the gluten or the egg or the dairy... but I remember it as being rich and tastey.

Since around the first of May I hadn't really logged food, I just logged in to keep my log-in streak, I lost nothing and actually put on a couple so I'm back to actually logging
    CONFESSION #1
I've also been logging on the MFP site(360 days straight as of today) but not logging my food most of the time. Since Feb I've put on about 12 lbs and have only recently started logging my food and getting serious about getting this weight off. In the past 2 weeks I've lost 6 lbs and several inches.
    CONFESSION #2
I've followed this thread since day 1, missing some days occasionally, but usually going back to catch past posts. This month, since trying harder to lose this weight I've been behind a lot. I just got caught up today, by skipping some of the pages in early July.

    Welcome!

I'm sorry your trip got canceled for today. I hope all is great tomorrow.
