HIYA ALL! This weekend was pretty busy, I worked Saturday and went to accupuncture. Yesterday was stupidly hot so we helped the mancreature's parents with some landscaping (I needed some sun anyway so I wore my bikini top and shorts). We also went to GNC (all the Quest Bars were on sale!!), I got to finally try the chocolate mint one and I love it! I also bought Quest protein powder (Peanut butter), which wasn't available before in Canada. I've got two months until my half marathon and the wedding that I'm a Bridesmaid in, time to tighten things up and get back into the swing of things! Lol

I am thrilled that you posted this! I traveled all over the city last week looking for Quest bars in the flavors I wanted, and still did not get them all!

I never thought of GNC til I saw this post. Not only is it literally up the street from me, the bars are cheaper AND they have a bunch of different flavors......

I love that this thread pointed me in the direction of those bars, I love them! I have tried powders, but do not like milk and juice is so sugary, and have tried other bars, and while I liked them, the carb counts were so high that I only ate them once in a while.

The net carb count for these is so low not only can I eat them often, but I can actually have fruit at breakfast which is exciting for me, as I normally cannot seem to make it work with my blood sugar normally. Except for berries cuz they are so low in sugar. My plan is to have a Quest bar four times a week for breakfast, with just greek yogurt and fruit (FRUIT!!) LOL. I have tried three flavors so far and have loved them all, I can't wait to go tomorrow and see what other kinds they have.

Has anyone tried the Quest protein chips?

What were your favorite flavors so far?

I officially deem the worst flavor Coconut Cashew! I ate that one Saturday & had to force myself to finish it.

@Francl27 I'm pretty sure has ate The Quest Protein Chips.

My favorite so far is the chocolate chip cookie dough......I have also tried the chocolate peanut butter and double chocolate chunk....both great. I plan on buying ten bars tomorrow, with a couple cookie dough and then one of each flavor I want to try so I can figure out which ones are gonna be my go to ones (I did that with Hagaan Dazs at the beginning too, ;) ).

If they have the chips I am gonna buy a bag and try them out.

ETA: @spacequiztime - just saw your post now.....why were they awful?? Second this last sentence, lol.

Another one that disappointed me was the S'Mores bar since it didn't really have that much of a S'Mores taste. The White Chocolate Raspberry bars are my favorite, but with them you have raspberry seeds that can get stuck in your teeth which is a bit of an annoyance. My sister's favorite flavor so far is the Cookies & Cream.
I am hoping to try the cookies and creme, white chocolate raspberry, peanut butter and jelly, apple pie, cinnamon roll, strawberry cheesecake, brownie and maybe the mint chocolate. Mind you, I have no idea what flavors they have, but that is just what I saw online.

Is it silly that I am THIS excited to go and buy protein bars??

Not at all! My sister & I went to GNC a few weeks ago & we were like kids in a candy store. Do you buy them from GNC or another store? If you buy them from GNC you can purchase a Gold card that at least in the US makes the boxes $24.99. On the Quest website on Cyber Monday I believe the price per box was even cheaper than GNC.

Well the first two I bought at Zehrs, and then Commisso's for the next few.....but then someone here said GNC so I went there today, and they have ALL the flavors! Not three like the grocery store, lol. Plus they are always buy 4 get one free, AND you can mix and match with the chips.

Within a months time I will have tried all the flavors (except for the few that do not look appealing to me at all), and will know which ones are my go to!

Y'all are going to keep talking about quest bars until I try them. No coconut cashew for me though... allergic to coconut.

I forgot to share my latest NSV with you.

I went to a baby shower Saturday, and there was homemade cupcakes, veggies and dip, nuts, chocolate covered pretzel sticks, watermelon, pistachio salad, and candy. I filled 2 small plates with veggies and little bit of dip, 1 pretzel, watermelon, mixed nuts, (just a few) 4 buttermints, (which I shared with Mr. Mo) and a small scoop of pistachio salad. I totally skipped the cupcakes!!! I didn't even feel like I was missing out because everyone that ate one, had blue lips and tongue.

Nice! What is pistachio salad? Sounds yummy.

Instant pistachio pudding mix is combined with whipped topping, miniature marshmallows, crushed pineapple, and nuts. This particular salad had a few too many marshmallows for me. I'm sure everyone makes theirs different, but this one was pretty good and not super heavy.

My American grandmother used to make this and she called it "yucky green salad".

    Hi, all,

Just giving a quick update, as I may be in and out over the next few days. I am at my Mom's for vacation with my sister and her 2 kids who are 14 (girl) and 10 (boy). We are going to NY today and visiting the new world trade center and then maybe the village and maybe the Empire State Bldg. Then Times Square tonight and dinner. Then I booked a hotel off of central park and in the AM we'll go for a long walk in central park (I am going to run there in the AM before they get up), lunch in central park and then I got us all tickets to the Lion King. I have never seen it and am SO excited.

I live 45 minutes from NY, used to work there daily, still go in a lot, and still get like a kid when I can go in and play tourist. I LOVE NYC!

Will take plenty of pics to share with you all when I can get them uploaded.

Take care... sorry have to say this... no politics and remember no swearing! (Excusing yourself or apologizing to the people who don't like it before you swear still counts as swearing...). I think we have all gotten back to a good place the last few days, let's stay there so we don't lose any of our dear friends. Thanks!

@pofoster21 That all sounds lovely!! Have a wonderful time! (Confession: I've never been to NYC but would dearly LOVE to see a broadway show there one day. And go to the Met.) If ever we make it out to NYC, can we hire you as our tour guide?

Haha, I was actually thinking the same thing!

That sounds like an amazing vacation! Have a great time!

Sad update. My niece woke up now feeling well. We cancelled today and the hotel (50% cost down the drain) and she better feel good enough to go in tomorrow those tickets cost me a ton. Sigh. Really disappointing but illness is illness.

Except for crayon and coupon (q-pon), I pronounce each of those words interchangeably. I guess it depends on my mood or something.

I also randomly bust out with a fake British accent. :)

Doesn't every non-British person? I assume British people will bust out fake American or Canadian accents too.

I would think that is how Hugh Laurie got the role of House. Frequent random practice.

Whenever he was on a late night show my jaw dropped whenever I realized he was actually from England.

My sister was the one who said "You gotta watch this interview with Hugh Laurie!" I was like okay whatever... I went to sit in the chair as she hit play and I missed and fell on the floor!
Like, REALLY?! He's from ENGLAND?! :astonished:

Go back and watch Friends episode "The One With Ross's Wedding Pt. 2. He's sitting next to Rachel on the plane. He has his accent.

OMG, I thought about that exact same thing when someone mentioned Hugh Laurie

Hugh Laurie is a legend. In his younger years he was in a comedy called Black Adder and it's my absolute favourite.
Also FYI he is a brilliant singer and musician. <3
I saw him and his band a few years back! Before that I had no idea he did music....and I have never watched House, but I see it is on Netflix!

I love Hugh Laurie. You should watch House. I never knew he sang. Interesting. I think he is cute too

Okay, so no judgement and all, but...salad? SALAD? How is that a salad? LOL.

I'm young enough to have escaped all those things with Jello and Cool-Whip and marshmallows that people refer to as "salad", so I always find it kind of shocking that they still exist, hahaha.

In America, anything can be a salad. Throw a bunch of ingredients together, add some sort of "sauce", don't cook it, and it's a salad. These were really big in the 80's when Tupperware was all the rage. Not so much anymore. I DO love me some Waldorf Salad, though.

Waldorf Salad has actual produce in it and is really yummy!

    Point taken.

@pofoster21 cannot wait to see your pictures! I seen The Lion King in Toronto in 2002 & remember liking it a lot. Where are you going to go out to eat?

I remember going into either Bloomingdale's or Sak's & finding a clearance rack & being shocked that a clearance price was $400.00+! If I ever go back to NYC I would love to go to a lot of the thrift stores & see what I can find.

I thought we were the only people who made that! My mom makes it every Christmas. She calls it "snow salad". LOL

Marshmallows, pudding and whipped cream - yep, salad.

Yea my sister makes that too. I love it. She also makes one with cherry pie filling (it may be the picture below) and that is super tasty too!

My grandma made it at Thanksgiving. She called it Watergate Salad.

Speaking of cherry pie filling - has anyone tried the dessert where you substitute all the liquid ingredients in chocolate cake with a can of cherry pie filling? This is relevant to my interests.

If this is a thing, I need it in my life mouth PDQ.

You can mix most cake mixes with pumpkin (or pureed beans if you're into protein - black beans are actually kind of awesome in brownies because the texture is very dense and fudgey), so I would imagine something pectin-y like cherry pie filling would probably work fine too (heck, there's an old Weight Watchers "recipe" where you mix diet pop with cake mix and it still works.)

I'm not a big cherry fan (I do like fresh ones, but not so much in stuff usually) so I haven't tried it, but I've definitely done some lazy baking with pumpkin and bean and it's totally edible.

Just stop with the so-easy-even-Ythannah-will-make-it dessert ideas... now I want Pistachio Salad and Cherry Fluff Dessert Salad and pumpkin/black bean mix cake. Stop. Now.

    :s

If you can manage to keep it to a reasonable portion, the black bean brownies etc are actually pretty doable and have passable macros for most people, if you care - I used to make them on 1200/day all the time and eat them for breakfast, haha. Depends on the mix you buy, obviously, but still.

Mix the pumpkin one with spice cake or similar.

I am normally a pretty big baking snob with everything from scratch and best-quality and all that nonsense, but it goes out the window if I just want to eat something sweet and not share it with anyone. I'm also the queen of making myself one single cookie. Just one. In the toaster oven.

Are you throwing pureed black beans into a chocolate cake mix or a brownie mix? And what kind of quantity?

I don't actually have "macros" as such, I just try to hit 90 grams of protein a day. The rest is dictated more by IBS than anything else. Says the woman currently eating leftover Duncan Hines frosting out of the tub... with an ice cream bar stick.

Maybe I should save some for my healthy, protein-packed brownies?

I would say give them a shot if you're hankerin' for some quick protein and don't want something sweet.

On the back of the bag, it warns people not to eat them in diets less than 400 calories a day without medical supervision. Barring something like 6 / 1 fasting, I have no idea how or why someone would even try a diet like that. :open_mouth:

Haha I forgot about her fridge. I have done well with not buying a bunch of snacks at the grocery store lately & today at Giant I only bought frozen veggies. I am trying to eat what I have in my freezer as far as meats go, canned beans, & rice before I buy anything else.

I would've bought some cases of Diet Mountain Dew, but usually I only buy them if they're 4 for $10.00 or 4 for $12.00.

So I'm slowly sliding into "maintenance" (I'd still love to lose another 7 lbs or so before I have plastic surgery) and upping my cals, which actually seems to be working out ok. I'm adding about 100 extra this week, then next week I'll add another 50-100 extra, etc. I'm such a nut though that I compensate by immediately going and exercising more *sigh* ugh!

Checked my calendar and it looks like the 1st week of Nov is the best time at work for me to have the surgery and finances should be ok by then, too. So that's the tentative time frame I'm working with, and I should be able to pull 5-7 lbs off by then. We'll see what the surgeons say, I guess. It's about 14 weeks away, so that seems pretty feasible.

@xLoveLikeWinterx keeping my fingers crossed for your surgery & good luck with maintenance. It can be a daunting process to figure out maintenance, but you'll get the hang of it.

Eh, no need to ruin perfectly good frosting with brownies.

If you want to try it, take a large can of black beans (15 oz, I think? can't remember the conversion offhand), drain and rinse them and the can really well, then put them back in the can, fill the remaining space with water up to the top of the can, then puree the beans and water well in a blender. Throw those in with a package of brownie mix and bake as directed (they might take a little longer though.)

Good to know! Salt and vinegar is a much more popular flavour up here and one of my favourites so I might actually try that one.

I assume the less than 400 calories a day part was probably for IFers? I totally get why they'd warn you though, if they've got as much fibre as the bars I can imagine they might do some freaky things to your digestion on a VLCD.

Yeah, we saw your fridge.....apparently mints are the only thing you can control yourself around, LMAO!

@Italian_Buju I think the mints were for the horses! Hee hee...

Yep! They are horse treats. I hardly ever eat those mints! But the horses. ...they love them. Whenever I give a horse who had never had one for the first time their eyes light up as soon as they bite it. :)

That's so cute. I had no idea horses could eat mints.

Hi from page 1246! Im reading and trying to catch up, it may take a while.

I miss you guys. I have been having a bit of a rough time. I'm seeing a trend of this as I read through. I hope everyone is doing alright, and I will check in as I can.

What's wrong? I hope everything is ok......

Everything is OK. My mom had back surgery, and then a few days later had a stroke. She is alright, but her brain still isn't working quite right. She had a heck of a time trying to explain things to the ER, and my brother (who was with her at the time) called my sister instead of me.No one called me at all until like 4 days later. I had no clue.

My sister went to the hospital, and before she left, she dropped a bag of drugs somewhere in the exam room. When my mom tried to leave the hospital the next morning, cops were waiting outside to arrest her, because when the hospital staff cleaned her room, they found a bunch of heroin. She was super upset and scared about her brain issue, and then almost got arrested. She was banned from that hospital! I mean, really. Does no one have any common sense? I swear to goodness that I was switched at birth.

I am so sorry to hear this! Is your brother normally like that? I can't believe your sister would do that >.<
Don't most drug addicts pay attention to where their drugs are at all times??

Sorry I did not see this earlier, I did not ready anything this morning when I posted, I do not want you to think I passed by this post, I just saw it now!

It's ok, Im kind of in and out of here. I'm having trouble finding a moment to sit down and relax.

Thanks. My brother is not normally a flake, but unfortunately he is also on drugs. And he is only 21. I'm the only one out of the three of us that never got addicted to any substances. I think my sister was really upset about my mom and just wasn't paying close attention to where her stuff was. I'm sure she noticed later and was mad as heck at herself. (that she lost it, not that she caused my mom more trouble. She never forgets to be self centered ).

I only have a minute, so I want to thank everyone else who expressed sympathy/frustration for my situation too. You guys are awesome. Im going to try to read a bit more before I have to go do something else. One day I will catch up!

Wow, that is terrible that they are both like that! You should be very proud of yourself for staying on the straight and narrow, that is not always easy when surrounded like that!
