3 weeks of work left (Friday doesn't count because I'm only doing a half day and it will be mostly taken up with tidying and farewells. I'm starting to get really excited. And while I've offloaded the stress, hubby seems to have taken it on. I figure there is nothing else we can do for 2 weeks, and then we will be trying to sell most of our staff. He's getting a little bogged down in minor details. Sadly, as I know pointing that out to him doesn't generally help I kinda just have to leave him to it, and support when I can. He's now switched to worrying about where we will live when we get to New Town. We will actually move on around the 19th June. The auction is on the 3rd July. There is a possibility it may sell before that but for ease we are sticking to that. If the house sells, we are sweet and can afford to rent somewhere. But the worry now is if it doesn't sell. I suggested we switch the mortgage payments to interest only, and rent the house out till we sell. We cannot afford to rent and pay a mortgage. But renting it out is a last resort as that has its own set of concerns. It would rent fast, i have no worries about that.
I was not aware you still had slavery down there...2 -
Had to take a few days off for various reasons so my 30 runs/30 days went to pot. But decided to give the running club another go tonight after a few of you suggested it could be good to build up my distance. It was nice to be back with them actually. Set out to do 3.5 and get used to their pace again but ended up doing 4.5! Quite pleased with the progress, amazing what a few tweaks can make to my mindset.
Looking into doing a 10k trail over the summer now! 😊
5/11- 3.10 miles
5/12- 3.53 miles
5/13- 2 miles
5/14- 2.2 miles
5/15- 3.2 miles
5/17- 4.1 miles
5/22- 4.5 miles

7.67 miles tonight. Weather was finally nice for a day.
It looks unlikely that I will hit this month's goal.

Easy warm-up/recovery run this afternoon before strength training. Then did strength training class and yoga. Fortunately, yoga was a bit more stretchy today, which felt really good.

Four miles with a few hill repeats today—it’s been fun to add these in! Mostly I feel like I’m trying to keep from running too fast during easy or long runs, so it’s really satisfying to have short bursts of intense effort. I incorporated a few fartleks during my HM training on occasion, but mostly felt like I was pushing to cover the distance.
I’m so glad the weather doesn’t sound like it was too terrible for all of you in the middle of the country!
Totally off topic, but I’m headed to New Zealand next month for work (flying into Auckland, conference is in Hamilton), and will have a couple days free after that. For those of you living there, does exploring Rotorua sound like a good plan? Any national parks not too far (like a few hours’ drive) that would be reasonable that time of year? Should I bring a tent? Um, tying back to make it relevant—any good places not to miss for running? Grateful for any advice..NZ feels pretty far away from the US West Coast!

No run for me today although I tried and my body (hip/leg) was not having any part of it. I did not try my new shoes so they will have to wait until next week since I am at agility the next 3 days. Still hoping I can run the course but have seen about getting our trainer on board if I am not able.
I see the ortho doc on Tuesday so if I am not full recovered 100% by then I will talk to them about it. DD thinks I just need a good massage and I must say I can't argue with her about that!6 -

Cool! @ContraryMaryMary and myself are the resident kiwis! (there is another but can't recall their name off the top of my head)
Rotorua is awesome, lots to do - kinda a tourist mecca. Given its the middle of winter in August, a tent wouldn't necessarily be the best unless you are used to camping in the colder months. Tongorairo is definitely worth a visit. I'm in New Plymouth - about 4 hrs drive from Hamilton and there are good trails all around Mt Taranaki (and ill go for a run with you if we can make it work lol). It all depends what exactly you are into. It's skiing season as well and the slopes are only a couple of hrs drive from Hamilton4 -

I have always said we are a special group of people here...5 -
8 miles this morning. Had no pre-run plan, purpose, or route, just went out the door and started running. My first thought was just relent to the heat, humidity and wind and take it real easy. Next mile felt good, so pushed it a little harder for a few miles. Then felt tired and backed off a bit. Just a 'tweener run. Seems I have way too many of these types of runs. I've heard it many times before. Take it really easy on easy days, and make the hard days hard. Need to start following that plan.

I got really busy at work at the beginning of May and decided to skip the May challenge and it's a good thing I did! I have been sick for over two weeks. I thought it was just a cold and I usually keep running through those. I finally broke down and went to Doc on Tuesday, and I guess it turned to something else bacterial (?) - you know I am the opposite of most of you and won't go to doctors and when I do have a hard time paying attention because I get queasy hearing/seeing the slightest thing (even looking at x-rays!) Made the mistake of looking at @elise4270 spoiler with that scary thing whatever it is (don't tell me!) - typing this about it makes me feel faint.
So I started antibiotics on Tuesday and OMG - I can't believe the difference! I have slept for 2 nights and woken up fine and excited to get out the door to run! For the last two weeks I felt so bad and had such trouble doing sleeping and then waking up. I would think I was getting better, so I'd run or bike or lift, and then be sick again. I started thinking is this my age? No, it's not!
I go to Kansas City on 6/1 to grade the AP Comp Sci exams and I will be on a 7 day running streak with my group of running friends. All Comp Sci teachers/professors with a couple physics teachers in the mix! It's a fun group from all over the country.
So I will join back up in June and see y'all here! Have a great rest of the month!

Glad you are starting to feel better @ddmom0811 - take it easy so you can kick whatever this bug is and be fully back soon. Have fun in KC.

I planned to run this afternoon after work but the forecast is looking bad for thunderstorms, so I made a last minute switch to a morning run. I'm glad to have that done and it was a pretty nice morning, though the humidity is definitely creeping up.
I'm off to the great state of Iowa tomorrow for my nephew's graduation. I will hopefully get a bit of running in, but the weather looks iffy there too and I'm tapering before my half on June 2, so I will keep it minimal.7 -

@ddmom0811 Glad the antibiotic kicked in and you are feeling better! So sorry about the X-ray. I’ll be sure to keep a warning and any further potential body parts whole or otherwise in the spoiler tag.
I thought of you and toyed with changing my diet and removing some animal products. Baby steps, I think. For now I’m just trying to center meals around veggies rather than meat and choose healthier meats. Dd and dh are trying to trim down some, so no matter what i fix I get negative feedback. Then dh fusses that I should cook for him when I don’t. Short version, I’m not sure where our diet choices are headed.
Keep getting well fast!

Got in 10k this morning. First 5k felt OK. Then l turned around. Oh well. The hills are good for me, running should help with jetlag, and it's definitely a good idea to take it easy right now, so I'm trying to just trust the process and know that sometime soon things will start to click again.
I don't know if I'll meet my 100-mile goal this month. Might have to look back and see how long of a streak with that I've got, but it's probably not worth pushing for it at this point. I'm just happy I was able to run a little farther today

This morning's run was great. It started out great and ended even better. I felt a little discomfort in my left foot at about one mile and I thought I was picking up the pace (I actually wasn't) so I backed off a little. I was using my New Balance shoes (they have ~200 miles on them) but I've been transitioning to Altra Escalante's and I think it was just that the support's different. Another half mile later that discomfort was gone and the rest of the run was fine. In fact, it felt so good that I gradually increased the pace over the last mile. I love finishing strong!
In a short while, I'll be joining coworkers for strength training. Tomorrow and Saturday are rest and cross days, respectively.
I am on track for my May goal, though I think I'll be short for the stretch because I took a little more time off surrounding my race earlier. That's okay. I'm really starting to get excited for my Half Marathon training and increased mileage the next couple months!4 -

It's skiing season as well and the slopes are only a couple of hrs drive from Hamilton

Bahaha well this time it's more to do with being upside down, than a typo lol.
Speaking of winter, it was only 8 degrees this morning (that's 46f for you up the right way upers). I contemplated staying 8n bed, but reminded myself I always regret the runs I DON'T do. So got dressed, using my sleeves (awesome, thanks for the suggestion), and headed out for 5k. It was my fastest 5k in about 6 months! Is there actually a correlation between cooler temps and faster runs? I definitely find it easier when it's cooler - though we don't get snow or frost here so.... That will be an interesting experience in my new city!5 -

Bahaha well this time it's more to do with being upside down, than a typo lol.
No, it does not. Unless you think AUGUST is NEXT MONTH. I know y'all a bit ahead down there, but pretty sure you are not that far ahead.

SO!
I did it. I ordered a set of Trekz Aftershocks Titanium headphones. These are the BONE CONDUCTING kind that do not go in your ears at all. Amazon had them at $83 with Prime Shipping. Was hoping to try them today, but my schedule did not work out well, so hopefully tomorrow.
After I have had them for a bit I will post a review. So stay tuned!5 -
2/3 of the way through my long slow run I was interrupted by a call from the jail, inmate having a seizure. Picked up pace but was at the bottom of this hill
Continued at same pace up the hill and eventually over the top of the hill. Got picked up by one of our deputies about a mile out from the facility. Get back here and evaluate the inmate, me still in my dripping running gear, and he is uncooperative of course. Watch video of the entire episode, and can tell he is acting. Grrrr!
Anyways got a little over 5 in today, then had to run back to gym to get shower, after evaluating inmate.
This was supposed to be the break in run for these babies9 -

I have these! They survived me dumping water all over my head for almost 5 hours the other day. Sometimes the sound gets a little vibratey, more than I'd expect for headphones I paid almost $100 USD on (I think because of sweat), but I do like them, can hear things around me, and the battery lasts forever before I need to charge them.3 -

For those of you living there, does exploring Rotorua sound like a good plan? Any national parks not too far (like a few hours’ drive) that would be reasonable that time of year? Should I bring a tent? Um, tying back to make it relevant—any good places not to miss for running? Grateful for any advice..NZ feels pretty far away from the US West Coast!Cool!
Ohhhhh yeah OK I have no idea where that came from. Can I plame moving stress and tiredness haha. Well June is still cold lol5 -
Most of 4 miles at an easy, easy pace. Temp hit 98 today with dewpoint about 75! I knew it felt hot but didn’t realize how hot until we got home. I just knew 11:30 miles were feeling like 10 minute miles and the handful of other runners we passed were also slogging along.
I saw five deer, a meadowlark, and two big bunnies.
Fingers crossed, I think my ankle may be doing a little better. I forgot about it while going up hills today.5 -

You guys commenting on fancy headphones costing $100usd like that's expensive!
My plantronics coat me almost $200nzd and that's only because I got a good hospital discount, usually they are $220. That's 140usd approx. Just googled and they are $70 on amazon. Wtf? Even with shipping they are way cheaper to buy there and get sent over. I want to cry!

Nice kicks!
I heard a story about a drunk fella that crashed his car and faked being knocking out but EMT roused him with a chest rub and he went back to faking. So the ER doc left him strapped to the board and did a rectal to gauge the muscle response.... Guys faking, so they leave him strapped and propped sideways on the board. You'd think the drunk guy would object or fess up. Least you didn't have to check his muscle response...0 -

Several of people I know down there say that electronics are all way pricier than they are here. My Bose Quiet Comfort Active Noise Canceling (total opposite in all ways from the Treks) were A LOT more than $140 USD if that makes you feel better. Of course, I would never wear them out running. When I put them on and play my tunes, the world goes away completely. They might not have the best sound in the industry, but they sound plenty good and block the world from my space.2
