3 weeks of work left (Friday doesn't count because I'm only doing a half day and it will be mostly taken up with tidying and farewells. I'm starting to get really excited. And while I've offloaded the stress, hubby seems to have taken it on. I figure there is nothing else we can do for 2 weeks, and then we will be trying to sell most of our staff. He's getting a little bogged down in minor details. Sadly, as I know pointing that out to him doesn't generally help I kinda just have to leave him to it, and support when I can. He's now switched to worrying about where we will live when we get to New Town. We will actually move on around the 19th June. The auction is on the 3rd July. There is a possibility it may sell before that but for ease we are sticking to that. If the house sells, we are sweet and can afford to rent somewhere. But the worry now is if it doesn't sell. I suggested we switch the mortgage payments to interest only, and rent the house out till we sell. We cannot afford to rent and pay a mortgage. But renting it out is a last resort as that has its own set of concerns. It would rent fast, i have no worries about that.

I was not aware you still had slavery down there...

Four miles with a few hill repeats today—it’s been fun to add these in! Mostly I feel like I’m trying to keep from running too fast during easy or long runs, so it’s really satisfying to have short bursts of intense effort. I incorporated a few fartleks during my HM training on occasion, but mostly felt like I was pushing to cover the distance.

I’m so glad the weather doesn’t sound like it was too terrible for all of you in the middle of the country!

Totally off topic, but I’m headed to New Zealand next month for work (flying into Auckland, conference is in Hamilton), and will have a couple days free after that. For those of you living there, does exploring Rotorua sound like a good plan? Any national parks not too far (like a few hours’ drive) that would be reasonable that time of year? Should I bring a tent? Um, tying back to make it relevant—any good places not to miss for running? :) Grateful for any advice..NZ feels pretty far away from the US West Coast!

    May goal: 70 mi

    6/16 Monroe Bubble Run 5K

    8/11 Lake Union 10K?

Cool! @ContraryMaryMary and myself are the resident kiwis! (there is another but can't recall their name off the top of my head)

Rotorua is awesome, lots to do - kinda a tourist mecca. Given its the middle of winter in August, a tent wouldn't necessarily be the best unless you are used to camping in the colder months. Tongorairo is definitely worth a visit. I'm in New Plymouth - about 4 hrs drive from Hamilton and there are good trails all around Mt Taranaki (and ill go for a run with you if we can make it work lol). It all depends what exactly you are into. It's skiing season as well and the slopes are only a couple of hrs drive from Hamilton

This morning's run was great. It started out great and ended even better. I felt a little discomfort in my left foot at about one mile and I thought I was picking up the pace (I actually wasn't) so I backed off a little. I was using my New Balance shoes (they have ~200 miles on them) but I've been transitioning to Altra Escalante's and I think it was just that the support's different. Another half mile later that discomfort was gone and the rest of the run was fine. In fact, it felt so good that I gradually increased the pace over the last mile. I love finishing strong!

In a short while, I'll be joining coworkers for strength training. Tomorrow and Saturday are rest and cross days, respectively.

I am on track for my May goal, though I think I'll be short for the stretch because I took a little more time off surrounding my race earlier. That's okay. I'm really starting to get excited for my Half Marathon training and increased mileage the next couple months!

@Avidkeo First you casually comment that you have to sell your staff, and now time travel? What's next?

Bahaha well this time it's more to do with being upside down, than a typo lol.

No, it does not. Unless you think AUGUST is NEXT MONTH. I know y'all a bit ahead down there, but pretty sure you are not that far ahead. ;)

    SO!

I did it. I ordered a set of Trekz Aftershocks Titanium headphones. These are the BONE CONDUCTING kind that do not go in your ears at all. Amazon had them at $83 with Prime Shipping. Was hoping to try them today, but my schedule did not work out well, so hopefully tomorrow.

After I have had them for a bit I will post a review. So stay tuned! :)

I have these! They survived me dumping water all over my head for almost 5 hours the other day. Sometimes the sound gets a little vibratey, more than I'd expect for headphones I paid almost $100 USD on (I think because of sweat), but I do like them, can hear things around me, and the battery lasts forever before I need to charge them.

You guys commenting on fancy headphones costing $100usd like that's expensive!

My plantronics coat me almost $200nzd and that's only because I got a good hospital discount, usually they are $220. That's 140usd approx. Just googled and they are $70 on amazon. Wtf? Even with shipping they are way cheaper to buy there and get sent over. I want to cry!

2/3 of the way through my long slow run I was interrupted by a call from the jail, inmate having a seizure. Picked up pace but was at the bottom of this hill

Continued at same pace up the hill and eventually over the top of the hill. Got picked up by one of our deputies about a mile out from the facility. Get back here and evaluate the inmate, me still in my dripping running gear, and he is uncooperative of course. Watch video of the entire episode, and can tell he is acting. Grrrr!

Anyways got a little over 5 in today, then had to run back to gym to get shower, after evaluating inmate.

This was supposed to be the break in run for these babies

    Nice kicks!

I heard a story about a drunk fella that crashed his car and faked being knocking out but EMT roused him with a chest rub and he went back to faking. So the ER doc left him strapped to the board and did a rectal to gauge the muscle response.... Guys faking, so they leave him strapped and propped sideways on the board. You'd think the drunk guy would object or fess up. Least you didn't have to check his muscle response...

Several of people I know down there say that electronics are all way pricier than they are here. My Bose Quiet Comfort Active Noise Canceling (total opposite in all ways from the Treks) were A LOT more than $140 USD if that makes you feel better. :) Of course, I would never wear them out running. When I put them on and play my tunes, the world goes away completely. They might not have the best sound in the industry, but they sound plenty good and block the world from my space. :)
