Well, I held out but we had pizza today at work for completeing a survey for the hospital. I did have some salad with it and two pieces of pizza. It looks like I can fit it in my day, but I may have to do a bit more walking. Pretty good for me, I didn't completely wreck the day.

I got mad at my BF because I wanted a little chocolate with my lunch so i grabbed for my PB chocolate snack mix and he ate all the butterfingers out of it. That was disappointing!!!

Just dropping in quickly before I run off to google the official recipe for Pistachio Salad... which I MUST have!

@pofoster21 your NYC itinerary sounds like so much fun... enjoy yourself!

@orangesmartie thanks for checking in with the update... you're dealing with so much right now, hope it all works out for the best.

@lilaclovebird work sounds pretty grueling, glad you can still visit us on here!

@Lois_1989 glad the low carb has been such a success and congrats on losing 9 lbs! (and PS my father does say aluminium correctly)

Hi from page 1246! Im reading and trying to catch up, it may take a while.

I miss you guys. I have been having a bit of a rough time. I'm seeing a trend of this as I read through. I hope everyone is doing alright, and I will check in as I can.

What's wrong? I hope everything is ok......

Everything is OK. My mom had back surgery, and then a few days later had a stroke. She is alright, but her brain still isn't working quite right. She had a heck of a time trying to explain things to the ER, and my brother (who was with her at the time) called my sister instead of me.No one called me at all until like 4 days later. I had no clue.

My sister went to the hospital, and before she left, she dropped a bag of drugs somewhere in the exam room. When my mom tried to leave the hospital the next morning, cops were waiting outside to arrest her, because when the hospital staff cleaned her room, they found a bunch of heroin. She was super upset and scared about her brain issue, and then almost got arrested. She was banned from that hospital! I mean, really. Does no one have any common sense? I swear to goodness that I was switched at birth.

I am so sorry to hear this! Is your brother normally like that? I can't believe your sister would do that >.<
Don't most drug addicts pay attention to where their drugs are at all times??

Sorry I did not see this earlier, I did not ready anything this morning when I posted, I do not want you to think I passed by this post, I just saw it now!

It's ok, Im kind of in and out of here. I'm having trouble finding a moment to sit down and relax.

Thanks. My brother is not normally a flake, but unfortunately he is also on drugs. And he is only 21. I'm the only one out of the three of us that never got addicted to any substances. I think my sister was really upset about my mom and just wasn't paying close attention to where her stuff was. I'm sure she noticed later and was mad as heck at herself. (that she lost it, not that she caused my mom more trouble. She never forgets to be self centered ).

I only have a minute, so I want to thank everyone else who expressed sympathy/frustration for my situation too. You guys are awesome. Im going to try to read a bit more before I have to go do something else. One day I will catch up!

Hi all just stopping by again to make sure you don't forget me and to say I am not dead...

I am in Wellsboro PA home of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. Google it. Its gorgeous. I have a very hilly 1/2 marathon here today. I have been taking tons of pics for y'all. Will post when I get to my computer. I'll catch up with everyone tonight and I miss you all! HAPPY SATURDAY!

Happy Saturday! Good luck at your 1/2! I'm up bright and early (ugh) to do my (less impressive) 5k lol.

It was tempting to sleep in, nobody IRL would care if I came to the run or not, but I thought of how supportive everyone one is here and that got my butt out of bed. So thanks everyone! (I think  )

    Good luck today POF!!!

Thanks! I had a GREAT day! So... race report (cause I know you all are DYING to hear this!):

The course is beautiful. I will post a ton of pictures in the bat cave after catching up but will also include a few at the end of this post.

It starts at the rim of the "Grand Canyon" of Pennsylvania, and they run you around a bit up there before running you down hill for about 4 - 5 miles then turn you around and run you back uphill. The day was a bit chilly at 5:30 in the AM on the rim, but once you started running you warmed up fast! I started out pretty strong (especially given my friend and I did the trail path down to the bottom of the canyon the day before and it really took a toll on my quads and knees the day before). But after mile 3 I really felt great. The day started with a mist, which you will see in the pics, and it was gorgeous. I stopped at mile 4 where there was a lookout to take some pics. The day was sunny, sky blue, not too hot, and the scenery was just incredible.

I finished in 2:09 (which should have been 2:05 except for a 4 min porta potty stop, which I could have skipped but figured I wasn't really running for time anyway), which on the course with the small crowd, earned me 3rd place in my age group. Woo hoo! My friend also did really well as well, she was 6th in her age group. Then we had a nice drive home and when I got home I was restless (never get home at 5 on a saturday) so decided to walk the 2.6 miles to the grocery store and liquor store and 'earn' a glass (or 2) of wine tonight while I catch up on here.

So for my fitbit challenge friends means I have nearly 40K steps today! :)

    Pics:

ETA: I can't believe I forgot this part! So my NSV in my 260 day logging streak... Yesterday at the race expo, I was buying a new reflective vest to be able to run early am/late pm (to keep my motivation commitments) and the guy sized me up and said 'you're pretty petite you may not need...". PRETTY PETITE! OMG. No one has EVER called me that. I wanted to kiss him. My friend, who is ALWAYS petite, just rolled her eyes when I turned to her and said...Did you hear what he said?????????????????????????

That course is beautiful. I want to go to there.

    Awesome NSV.

    Hey from 1299!

Today I found out that I could walk to the library on my side of town. It's about 1.5 miles away, which is further than I generally make my kids walk, but we made it! And it wasn't that bad. The way you have to drive is a lot further than the back road way I figured out (and there is no way they would have made it through that route), so this is a major success.

And just THINK of all the steps you will get in!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm literally so excited that I can walk to the library. I took the class/ story time schedule and I am all about it. When my older kids are in school, I'm going to break out the jogging stroller and hit it much faster. It took about 40 minutes to walk with the kids, I think I could do it in 15-20 if I'm the only one walking. Also, it wont be so hot.

@KylerJaye I didn't backtrack to the original post. I just wanted to second whoever told you to be sure to be yourself. Be very true to you but in order to do that you have to know yourself well. For me that means checking in with myself and checking in with my motives. Speaking just of myself, sometimes I want things to go a certain way so I push them that way. In my present relationship I am trying very hard to (1) know what I want and (2) see if SO wants the same thing or compatible thing without pushing anything. Sometimes I have to sit on my hands and restrain myself but I want to make sure we want the same thing without him being pushed into anything. I am super sleepy so I hope that made sense. To thine own self be true. <3

ETA This is advice I am going to work very hard to follow in my life in the coming months to year. I just found out about son possibly needing another heart surgery. I will be interested to see SO's reaction. His son also has special needs but has not needed surgeries. It is going to be challenging for me to watch my son go into the congestive heart failure again (unless medicine has changed since the last time and that is possible too) before they take the risk of surgery. I need to figure out what I need/expect from SO and I need to see what he does without being pushed into anything. This will certainly be a place when I can see how compatible we are long term. Would I cut him free if he does not handle it well? Yes. I know that people are who they are and real change is rare. So far it has been good. We'll see where this new development leads. I will not settle for less than a great match.

ETA #2 Just spoke to him. His initial reaction was loving and compassionate and just right. <3

    that was @pofoster21 :)
i'm working really hard to be honest in what my expectations are, as well as being fully open with my personality issues. he's been really responsive and understanding. and also really open about his issues too. which is nice to finally have someone i feel that i can talk to and not have to worry about being yelled at in response.

    post date update:
last night mr jaye invited me over for homemade gluten free pizza. i thought it was pretty sweet. the gesture, not the pizza, although the pizza was good! lol

also, i wish your son the absolute best! that's gotta be so scary, but i know you're strong and will help him fight through anything. and yay! for the SO being supportive of you, that's great!

I confess that I judge the people on my Facebook page who get into relationships where both parties tell eachother how much they are in love and will always be together.... only to break up a week later.

I just saw this happen... but it didn't even last one week. They broke up after four days. Made me cringe. :(

Haha! Or the ones that their status changes from single to together over and over again......

Goodness, yes. Crazy back and forth TMI love messages on the public wall drive me nuts. Take it to PM, OR hey, say it to them in person. Crazy, I know!

What about the people that fight on FB where everyone can watch. No shame.

Ugh I was dreading weighing myself because in the past, I got too stuck on the numbers and it hindered my weight loss and was very discouraging. I stupidly took the advice of other and weighed myself for the first time in well over a year after my swim at the pool and I'm 20lbs heavier than I thought I was. Ugh.

I feel so crappy now and wish I'd never done that. I was going to just use a measuring tape to keep tabs on losses. I wish I had listened to myself rather than others.

Do your clothes fit well? In a way that satisfied you before you got on a scale? If so and you're healthy, don't worry about it. I look 20lbs lighter than I am. I know because everyone guesses low. When I tell people I weigh 157 lbs. they are always surprised.

That is how I've always been too. When I was 150 everyone thought I was 120 at least. I actually used that at Six Flags. They have people there who are supposed to guess your weight and then you get on the scale and if they are off by a certain amount you get a prize. I got my sister and I prizes at two different stations with that game. :)

Confession: It really annoys me that kids around here beg for their extracurricular activity funds. I can't tell you how many cars I washed for yearbook club or how many candy bars I sold for everything else!

Another confession: If you come up to me and say that because I don't have kids I should buy some cookie dough or giftwrap from yours, I ain't doing it.

Yep... what happened to the days of bottle drives, bake sales, and car washes? I love it when someone brings in their kid's chocolate bars to peddle... and they usually disappear fast, so I'm not the only one.

I don't ever get the "because you don't have kids" spiel but I'll go along with that argument the day someone throws me a puppy shower :)
    Where is everyone?? ;)

    Wondering the same thing myself...

My old co-workers actually DID throw me a puppy shower! It was fantastic. I was SO excited about getting my puppy that I talked about it for MONTHS. My boss made some excuse to pull me into a conference room (I thought I was in trouble and was super nervous), but when we got there, everyone said "Surprise!!!" It was a surprise puppy shower for me. There was cake, dog toys, treats, and a gift card to a pet supply store. It was a little over 11 years ago, but I still remember how happy it made me. One of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me! (The puppy that was the subject of the party is the dog in my profile pic. I  him.)

That is adorable. I would go to a puppy or kitten shower for sure. This should be come a thing.

@Lois_1989 YOU'RE BACK!!!! You have been missed!!!! <3 And now, I am going to find a calculator to see how much you are lifting in lbs, cuz I have no idea.

ETA: Nice lifting, Lois! Those are great numbers (now that I know what they equal)

    Ditto!!

And I'm a middle-aged Canadian... the metric system was introduced while I was in school... I can think in both lbs and kg, inches and cm, grams and oz, miles and km, Celsius and Fahrenheit...

I can do the bolded, oz completely escape me and so does Fahrenheit. I know there is a little equation to figure out Fahrenheit to Celsius but I can never remember it. :confounded:

I cheat o:) I have an app that converts for me so I can convert it quickly and talk to SO about celcius temps like I know what I'm talking about hahaha

    Well in my opinion:

0-10C - Cold to chilly (warm jacket)
10-20C - Chilly to cardigan weather
    20-30C - Cardigan to perfect
30C + = WAY too hot for me.

    26-28C is my perfect weather
Starts at 0?? Update for Western Canada:
-0 to -10C - Deathly freezing. Wear five layers of clothing and maybe a ski mask.
-10 to -15C - Add some more layers. Maybe hibernate inside an incubator.
-15 to -20C - Your blood feels frozen. Is your blood frozen?!
    -20 to -30C - You're already dead.
-30 to -40C - Not applicable. Because dead.
-40 and colder - Also not applicable. See above.

Fixed for an Arabian's (specifically a gulf one) point of view. ;)

People do have very individual temperature tolerances. I always was amused on about about a 60 degree day in Tucson to see everything from flip-flops and shorts to Uggs and parkas - sometimes next to each other.

When I first moved to Tucson, it was August. It was over 110 degrees every day, and I thought I was going to die. I would see people in jeans and long sleeves and I was so confused. 2 years later, I was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt to school with no problem, and freezing when I visited my family in Washington state. It's so weird how you can get use to extreme temps.

So a few months ago, I posted that I couldn't even finish level 1 of Jillian Michaels' Beginner Shred. I was so embarrassed and ashamed, I put the DVD away for all that time. Every week I swore I would try again, but then that little voice in my head said: "what if you can't finish it again?".

My NSV for today is that I told the little voice in my head to get lost, and I put the DVD on, and I did the whole darn level 1 workout! *feels like a boss*

My muscles feel a little wobbly, but I feel so good. I finished it! And if I did it once, I can do it again. And again!

    GOOD JOB!!

It is really weird looking at the BMI scale and seeing I would be considered obese if I just gained 35 or so more pounds... when right now I'm in the normal range. 35 pounds doesn't seem like that much (of course I don't want to test that out).

thank you to everyone who messaged me and left notes on my wall. I'm sorry I wasn't that able to engage, it was just taking a lot of energy to remain upright some days.

I want to say good luck on the relationship part of it. I really hope you guys can work everything out. It makes me so sad to think about a relationship ending. :( I REALLY wish the best for you.

I hope you have a good trip with Charlie. Hopefully that will help. Good luck on getting the weight off as well. My goal is 40 by the end of the year but at the rate I'm going, that isn't going to happen. Hopefully you will do better than I have been. :)

Morning all. Just checking in. Not be around much, as trying to deal with life changes and what-not. I'm currently living in a hotel during the week and have hired a new trainer to take me through some strength/lifting routines. Food has been somewhat erratic, with a couple of terrible binge days. Basically negating all the training.

Partners (ex-partners?) and I are talking, trying to sort the mess to see if/how we can go forward together. Mr Smartie has seen his GP for medication and had an initial assessment with a therapist. We are waiting for a referral to a specialist military therapist. I feel that I am not quite done with them yet, so have committed to try and see if we can move on together.

In other news: we're still waiting on social services to make decisions about my sister's baby, so I feel i can't make any plans past the end of September.

I am planning a holiday with my parents and Charlie at the end of September, and i would dearly love to be down about 20lbs by then.

Mum saw her consultant yesterday. He is pleased with the way the operation went, but now she begins treatment 3 times a week for 6 weeks.

So all in all, its been a little bit of a stressful month.

thank you to everyone who messaged me and left notes on my wall. I'm sorry I wasn't that able to engage, it was just taking a lot of energy to remain upright some days.

Don't worry about us! Take care of yourself. We miss you but you need to take care of yourself and taking care of yourself will certainly help that. Congrats on the trainer and *hugs*.

^^^See this bolded stuff? All of this right here ^^^

@orangesmartie +1 I'm thinking of you and hoping for the best outcome for your physical/emotional health. Great job with the trainer! We'll be here when you're feeling more steady and we've got your back. No matter what, just keep getting up in the morning and taking care of yourself the best way you can. Whether that's exercise or ice cream, or space for yourself, or laughing with Charlie... we won't judge. Hugs to you!

Re: selling stuff for schools - The middle school my son goes to basically sends out a letter at the beginning of the year that says we would be so happy if each family could donate x amount to the school for activities and field trips. They of course understand and don't bother you if you can't spare anything. Any amount is allowed, even zero. They occasionally remind us, and show a progress chart of how much they've been sent about every quarter.

I actually prefer it to the elementary school trying to make me sell wrapping paper and pastries and whatever else. Those catalog things don't even raise that much money because a huge chunk goes to the company. I asked them last year if they would consider making more of a fuss about direct donations. We'll see.

I forgot to share my latest NSV with you.

I went to a baby shower Saturday, and there was homemade cupcakes, veggies and dip, nuts, chocolate covered pretzel sticks, watermelon, pistachio salad, and candy. I filled 2 small plates with veggies and little bit of dip, 1 pretzel, watermelon, mixed nuts, (just a few) 4 buttermints, (which I shared with Mr. Mo) and a small scoop of pistachio salad. I totally skipped the cupcakes!!! I didn't even feel like I was missing out because everyone that ate one, had blue lips and tongue.

Nice! What is pistachio salad? Sounds yummy.

Instant pistachio pudding mix is combined with whipped topping, miniature marshmallows, crushed pineapple, and nuts. This particular salad had a few too many marshmallows for me. I'm sure everyone makes theirs different, but this one was pretty good and not super heavy.

I thought we were the only people who made that! My mom makes it every Christmas. She calls it "snow salad". LOL

Marshmallows, pudding and whipped cream - yep, salad.

Yea my sister makes that too. I love it. She also makes one with cherry pie filling (it may be the picture below) and that is super tasty too!

    Hi, all,

Just giving a quick update, as I may be in and out over the next few days. I am at my Mom's for vacation with my sister and her 2 kids who are 14 (girl) and 10 (boy). We are going to NY today and visiting the new world trade center and then maybe the village and maybe the Empire State Bldg. Then Times Square tonight and dinner. Then I booked a hotel off of central park and in the AM we'll go for a long walk in central park (I am going to run there in the AM before they get up), lunch in central park and then I got us all tickets to the Lion King. I have never seen it and am SO excited.

I live 45 minutes from NY, used to work there daily, still go in a lot, and still get like a kid when I can go in and play tourist. I LOVE NYC!

Will take plenty of pics to share with you all when I can get them uploaded.

Take care... sorry have to say this... no politics and remember no swearing! (Excusing yourself or apologizing to the people who don't like it before you swear still counts as swearing...). I think we have all gotten back to a good place the last few days, let's stay there so we don't lose any of our dear friends. Thanks!

@pofoster21 That all sounds lovely!! Have a wonderful time! (Confession: I've never been to NYC but would dearly LOVE to see a broadway show there one day. And go to the Met.) If ever we make it out to NYC, can we hire you as our tour guide?

So a few months ago, I posted that I couldn't even finish level 1 of Jillian Michaels' Beginner Shred. I was so embarrassed and ashamed, I put the DVD away for all that time. Every week I swore I would try again, but then that little voice in my head said: "what if you can't finish it again?".

My NSV for today is that I told the little voice in my head to get lost, and I put the DVD on, and I did the whole darn level 1 workout! *feels like a boss*

My muscles feel a little wobbly, but I feel so good. I finished it! And if I did it once, I can do it again. And again!

    Excellent!

<3 Hang in there and take care of yourself.

I can't keep any dessert type snacks in my house like cookies or cake or chocolate because I am incapable of eating them in moderation.

You're not alone. I am banning ice cream, cookies, & other desserts for a long time until I can eat them in moderation.

I have no food in my house. No wine, no snacks, no goodies. I can't eat anything in moderation when its in my house.

Yeah, we saw your fridge.....apparently mints are the only thing you can control yourself around, LMAO!

@Italian_Buju I think the mints were for the horses! Hee hee...
