"Be the reason resolutioners choose to stay!"
It's that time of year again. I keep seeing people say "Make friends with the new year's resolutioners! Be the reason that they choose to stay!" I know their intentions are good, but I find this advice to be annoying. I would never pressure another gym member into trying to make friends with anyone at the gym. If they just…

Low Impact Exercise
Hi, I'm getting back into all of this but looking to start a low impact type of workout. I struggle with getting bored fast because I either can't keep up or have too many things I physically can't do because of previous surgeries. I've done the whole walking thing but even that gets boring after awhile for me. Does Yoga…

New Spin Bike
I have a new spin bike that just arrived today! Took my first 10-minute ride on it and am looking forward to getting that time up to 45-60 minutes eventually. I am a bike nerd of sorts, I have a few in the garage. But honestly, haven't ridden at all for the past 2 years because of my weight. I don't want to snap a frame or…

Steps calorie adjustment not working?
So today for the first time since using MFP I added exercise and since I added it the device stopped counting my steps. Or it counts them but doesn't add them as exercise and it doesn't show how many calories i've burned from the steps. When I open the app it shows that I've made over 13000 steps but when i go to my diary…

Garmin forerunner 245 Music
I'm looking at purchasing a Garmin forerunner 245 Music smartwatch. Mainly because it plays music, I can swim with it, it has a safety feature which notifies a nominated person if you fall (something I need at the moment), doesn't require a subscription and is not touch screen. Has anyone else got one, and are there any…

What are your thoughts on very low intensity steady state cardio?
I start all of my days, 7 days a week for the most part, with 45-60 minutes of very very low intensity cardio. I don't get short of breath or sweat (tho it IS winter) I look at it as active recovery, particularly my walks of ~3 miles. I like it. It's obviously not all I do, and I do much more intensive training later in…

Treadmill
My husband is 72 yrs old, and he has started walking on my treadmill. He cannot walk with out holding onto something, because his balance is not good. He is scared he will fall. He finds that if he holds onto the side rails, he is leaning forward & walks hunched over, causing him back pain. He likes to walk holding onto…

I'm going to 2 places for holiday. The first one is just for 3 nights but lots of hikes there and I know my husband will probably drag me along. I hope the pool is also open as last year they closed it because of the c word. Second place is in the mountains where my sister and friends live. Also lots of walks there. My…

Muscle & weight loss?
Hi! I want to talk through some logic and see if I'm thinking about this correctly. Let me know what you think. First, some background: I've lost about 18 pounds and still have about 10-ish to go. As I've lost weight, I'm noticing that the "pandemic-hermit" lifestyle that caused the weight gain has also meant I've lost…

Orangetheory Fitness and Fitbit
For those of you that do OTF, do you wear your Fitbit during class? Do you add the calories burned from OTF? Does the MFP do the adjusting? I don’t want to double dip, but I don’t want to not record calories burned if the app adjusts.

Running with spinal stenosis
Anyone runners on here have been diagnosed with spinal stenosis? I am 47 and was diagnosed 20 years ago. I know I need to talk to a doc about it, but I was wondering if anyone has any other thoughts, insights. When I ask Dr. Google, he only says that I should NOT be running. However, I am just getting back into fitness,…

Lose fat and maintain muscle simultaneously
Hi everyone, quick back story. I've been overweight to obese most of my life. A little over two years ago I lost about 42kg (93lbs), I've gained about 6kg (13lbs) back of that. I lost the weight through tracking my calories on MFP and walking. Over the past two years I worked my way up to running and cycling. I'm pretty…

Is 5 Reps Enough?
I walk over 1 hour almost every morning, but I wanted to add some bodyweight exercises to my routine. I did 10 knee push ups, 10 squats, 10 lunges on each leg, 10 jumping jacks, a 30 second plank, and a 45 second side plank on each side. This left me pretty sore and feeling some concerning neck pain (from the plank,…

Hoping those of you that have been able to get muscle can help me. Fitbit Added a ton of Exercise Calories
I've been using MFP for about seven years. I've had this particular fitbit for five. Yesterday, I did no exercise. My final step count was around 4,000. This wouldn't normally add any exercise calories to MyFitnessPal. Well, yesterday it told me that I burned 1200 exercise calories. That's a ton! This is going to screw up…
