Intermittent fasting... muscle gains?
So, I’m so lost as to what my goals should be here on Myfitnesspal. I want to lose the fat and gain mass... like at the same time if possible because I don’t want to lose the fat and then appear super skinny. I’m currently doing IF but trying to eat at a surplus within my eating window (which is difficult af btw). Also…

noob thats trying to lean out
I'm a just a noob ( although I've been floating around this community for nearly 5 years now) with some goals. Looks like we already have a common interest there ; goals ! I am currently on 1920 calories per day. My diary is open, and I'm an open book myself. If you wanna be friends , then you have a friend in me !

Increase workout intensity
To increase metabolism increase the intensity of your workouts and shorten the duration. Life heavier or change hiit workouts to shorten time between sets. Do 2-3 short intense workouts throughout the day (20min each) instead of 1 long workout. Sneak exercise in your daily activities. Park far from the…

40+.. club bulking and concerned..
As of January I’ve been trying a bulk for the first time & as of yesterday I’m up 5lbs. I’ve been 125lbs. for literally 10 years. My goal in this was/is to add more muscle mass. I feel I look skinny fat. And I actually want visible muscle, when I’m not working out. My question/concern is since I’m 43yr old female am I…

Leg press vs. Squat
I think most of know that the squat is a far superior exercise then the leg press but I am wondering what your working weight is with both and your max. My working weight is around 820 on the leg press and 315 on the squat. Max is over 1,000 on the leg press and 455 on the squat. Working weight is normally 3-4 sets of…

Trusting actual results > what every calculator says
It's perhaps a bit of a waste of time to even make this post, since I've read around enough to already have a pretty good idea of what people will say. But I suppose I might be more inclined to take it on board if I know the advice/reassurance is in direct response to my own personal situation... I've been maintaining my…

Gaining weight unintentionally
I've just about had enough! A friend hooked me up with thsi app and it's been a great learning tool. I was not eating enough. About 1200 without thinking about it. I'm 52 yr old female, 4-5 yrs menopausal. A year off of a health hell with too many meds. Never was heavy and after kids it would not stay off. 20 lbs easy then…

Beginner tips for cutting vs bulk

3k calorie intake right for me?
I’m 29, 6ft 172lbs. Trying to add muscle. GW 185-190 with 10% body fat. Is 3k caloric intake ok if I’m working out 5 days a week?

Too early to start bulking?
I have recently started getting back in the gym. I am not overweight, but I have a higher body fat percentage than I'm "supposed to". I'm a black female (I think that detail matters) 5'5 and weight about 155 with a body fat % of about 22. I talked to a trainer and they said that it's a little high, putting me at risk for…

Alcohol and gains
I've been wanting to get some perspective on this topic for a while. I'm not a heavy drinker, but I certainly enjoy wine and the occasional cocktail (usually a margarita). I try to stick to red wine and tequila. I would say I have 2-6 glasses per week (rarely more than 2 in one sitting). And I try to give myself extra…

I have a herniated disc! How can build muscle?!
Hi guys! I recently was diagnosed with a mild herniated disc. It hurts when I do certain movements like pelvic thrust. Therefore I cannot do heavy squatting, hip thrust etc. However, I go to the gym to gain weight and muscle. Especifically my glutes, legs and back. If anyone has similar experiences or know what exercises I…

Calories question- weight loss
If I was to increase my calories now for 3 weeks (before I start a more structured and intense exercise routine and cut my calories by around 400 in 3 weeks time) would it make it easier to lose weight then because I have a higher caloric starting point and my body will be in a larger deficit?

What do you supplement with?
I’m curious what works for everyone else here in terms of for weight training and just overall health. For me, I use whey during the day and after workouts and casein at night. As far as vitamins, I take an antioxidant blend, vitamin D, and fish oil.

Lean enough?
Am I lean enough to run a bulk? I lost weight last year and have been in maintenance/recomp since July. My butt is smaller than I would like and I'm not sure if it will grow in maintenance. If I do run a bulk I'm not planning on starting until late summer/fall because I go to the pool a lot and want to look good for the…

How do you estimate?
I am beginning my (probably 5th) attempt at bulking. I am currently 138, male, 5'7.5, 23 y/o. I go to the gym consistently 5 days a week. However, I have failed to add muscle the way I want because I always fear that the surplus will add too much fat to my frame. I like being lean but my goal is to be 155 and lean, which I…

How long is reasonable to continue my bulk?
I'm really living it up with eating. My progress in just over a month is I've gained about 5 lbs. The exciting thing is I've started to hit some strength personal records as a result (below, if interested). I feel strong... not too fat. My strength progress had stalled for weeks/months until I took the "lid" off eating.…
