Trees need Fitbits too
You might look at a tree swaying in the wind and see botanical tranquility—a hypnotic back and forth of life interacting with air. Scientists appreciate that too, but they also see something else: data in motion. It turns out that the way a tree moves says a lot about its biology, the local hydrology, and the landscape at…

Interesting article on sleep tracking
A lot of this is pretty common sense, but it's a good recap and I think a lot of people will enjoy it. You can read or listen. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/04/20/wearable-sleep-data/

Can anyone reccommend a good cycle app?
I've recently moved to the coast and it's just been calling to me for weeks now. I gave in and bought a new bike and trailer for my daughter to ride along in. I love it, we try to get out on it at least once a week and just take in the gorgeous route. We are currently averaging somewhere between 20 and 30 mile routes and…

I don't know how should I split my exercise schedule? Working out after knee surgery
Alright so I had a knee injury and ended up having a knee scope two weeks ago. They basically just went in and cleaned up some excessive scarring. No ligament tears or the like. I am doing great, still slightly swollen but very mobile and almost pain free. I cannot stand for long periods of time but can tolerate moving…

My watch died again. 🥺
About a month ago my watch (Garmin Fenix 6X) suffered some kind of malfunction and stopped working completely. It was only able to display weird screens and couldn't even tell the time. Garmin rushed me a new one, which got a similar glitch this morning. It can still tell time and track exercise, but won't talk to my…

Was hoping to get help figuring out how many calories i burn with my exercises.
Ok, so i went through and found names for all the reps i do, My aim is for low intensity so sometimes i will get 27 of the 30 min i do these in in active minutes on my fitbit, sometimes i only get a min, it depends on a day to day basis so i'm trying to get a rough round number so i can logg it well. Right now mfp is only…

Question regarding breathing
I have recently started running (running/jogging/walking/running in that order as soon as I can run again). My question is when running should I keep my mouth sealed and breathe only through the nose? I remember a sports coach I know long back told me breathing just through the nose helps in lung capacity but is this true?…

Steps vs. calories
Hey everyone! I’m sure this has been asked and answered before but I can’t find any info. I’m wondering why my steps are giving me such a low calorie burn on here? Today I’ve done 12,000 steps and it’s saying I’ve only burnt 40 calories. I have an Apple Watch as my tracker. TIA!

Bench pressing advantage or not
I went to the gym this weekend and noticed that a lot of people are busing bench pressing (either free weights or machines). Beyond the aesthetic look of bench pressing, is there another reason? Outside the gym, I enjoy playing golf and running. Is there a real benefit bench pressing beyond your weight?

HR mystery, possibly tech related
I'm trying to solve a HR mystery. When I run regularly I observe some strange things. It doesn't happen with every run, but when it does it's always after around 3km: suddenly the running becomes super easy. When I then look at my phone connected to an optical upper arm sensor my HR is about 15-25bpm lower than it was a…

Fitness tracker - some advice please
Hi everyone, I'm considering getting a fitness tracker to use alongside mfp. From reading up on them, I know steps and calories from steps can be synced from fitbits to mfp, but do any trackers sync across actual workouts (eg, spinning, weights etc) as I'm more focused on actual workouts rather than steps. I can't seem to…
